    Hi Everyone.

Quick update from my GOTV effort here in Australia. After contacting a couple of American friends living here in Australia last month to vote from abroad (they had never voted before but both confirmed they now have 🙂 ), one of them forwarded to me this morning an email reply from her nephew she received yesterday. He lives in California….

“I just managed to register to vote in time, voting day here is in 2 days time, and of course I will be voting for Obama! Mitt Romney is a douche bag, I’ve seen all the debates and he is a loser so far out of his depth, he cannot win the election! However the polls have them matched evenly, so it will be a nail biting night on tuesday watching the results. Obama had a tough time stepping into office after Geroge Bush screwed so much up, your right there is not much that he could have done in 4 years, he did reform health finally and caught Osama so that’s good by itself!…….Did you know that Roseanne Barr is running for president?” (of course, as he said above, he is not wasting his vote on Barr)

Election results will come in around 11am Sydney time, so it’s a fairly decent hour (I have my own business so no probs in getting time off 😉 ) but I’ll be around for most of today and through the night enjoying just being with great minded people (I remember staying up all night in 2008, this year will be the same…exciting). #forward

Thanks Bobfr, all in it together 🙂 . Yes, Party! Have to head out and place a bet on our Melbourne Cup Horse Race (it’s the horserace that stops a nation over here, a carnival atmosphere where people go out to lunch, racetracks and everyone stops to watch that race on tv). We also have a sizeable for this country, $100M lotto drawn tonight, but I’ll work all of this around PBO & Michelle’s final campaign stop as I definitely want to watch this live.

Call it the ultimate absentee ballot. NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station have the option of voting in tomorrow’s (Nov. 6) presidential election from orbit, hundreds of miles above their nearest polling location.
Astronauts residing on the orbiting lab receive a digital version of their ballot, which is beamed up by Mission Control at the agency’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston. Filled-out ballots find their way back down to Earth along the same path.
“They send it back to Mission Control,” said NASA spokesman Jay Bolden of JSC. “It’s a secure ballot that is then sent directly to the voting authorities.”
This system was made possible by a 1997 bill passed by Texas legislators (nearly all NASA astronauts live in or around Houston). It was first used that same year by David Wolf, who happened to be aboard Russia’s Mir space station at the time.
“You think about being in a foreign country and voting — he was actually on a foreign space station,” Bolden told SPACE.com.

I’m just curious has anyone experienced problems with the “True The Vote” crowd? I haven’t had to deal with them because in Washington it’s all absentee (mail in paper ballots). It’s been reported that they’ve been going to minority and democratic districts and intimidating people.

Democrats grew, changed, and progressed. Republicans stopped growing, changed, and regressed. There is the answer for you for any one who says Susan B. Anthony, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass were Republicans. Then point out to them that the most rabid segregationists and anti women’s rights Democrats became Republicans in the 1960s. 1970s and 1980s.

I was for his since his book signing days, listening to him speak at book stores. But what really did it for me, what really made he think he could actually win in 2008 was a) his New Hampshire speech congratulating HRC and b) this one on it’s heels.

I still play those over and over. Always makes me feel good.

I knew right then, with no doubt in my heart that he would be our president in 2008. And I feel the same way tonight. It’s in my bones that he is going to get 4 more years. Obstruction and lies be damned!

I couldn’t handle her voice so I hung up. I am a registered Democrat. Have never receieved anything from the Repubs here in MT. To get a call like this is shocking. Also it is so depressing, because the pols say Tester is loosing and I am depressed. I am afraid, even tho everyone I know is voting straight democratic ticket., that MT will be all red.

I bet people will go to rallies PBO speaks at just to hear him speak. You know he will speak at the DNC too. He will write books and we will all be contributing to his library. Hopefully that will not be right away but after 4 more years.

Who gives a crap if Jay Z doesn’t believe in God? To each his own. People of faith and non-religious people are all wonderful. Jay Z has given of his time, held fundraisers, and had GOTV messages at his concert. He should not be maligned at this crucial moment and certainly not on this forum. He has done his part to help Pres. Obama get reelected and deserves huge kudos not abuse for that.

      • November 5, 2012 at 7:24 pm

Unless you are part of his family or have known him his whole life YOU don’t know him! I have followed JayZ since BEFORE his first CD, read his book and watched him mature into a successful, respectful businessman and man in general!

I am looking forward to it because I will be busy working and helping people vote. I pray all those people who are fighting for the right to vote will be able to. It is a disgrace to see those lines in Florida and Ohio. We are going to relect the best President for our times. Listening to his speeches are so emotional. We are so fortunate to be here at this time. Now off to fix supper for my husband. We are just having good ole grilled hamburgers and sweet potatoes.

Thanks Marilyn for your work at the polls tomorrow. I hope you have a very inspiring and gratifying experience.

Remember, the lines in FL and Oh are long not only because of the restriction in early voting days – but also because of the spike in voter enthusiasm among Obama supporters/Dems in those areas – many of whom are typically referred to as “unlikely” voters. They also say something about the determination of people who will stand in line for over 5 hrs to cast a ballot.

So we have reason to be optimistic and inspired by those lines. And like you said, we are going to re-elect the best President for our times!

I am going to be a poll watcher……first time doing anything like this. They are putting us in districts/precincts where the local and/or state campaigns are close because, after all, no concern about how the presidential race will be here. Most important time for me to be there is early morning to check the tape to be sure counter is at zero and again after polls close to check counter. I plan on doing some going and coming, making sure I am there at the busiest times.

Have to share this: Was reading our paper earlier and there was an article about the local Republican’s Club…..their recent meeting and some of them were interviewed for this article. John Duncan (my congressman) and couple others said their prediction holds: That Romney will win with at least 300 EV. One of them said he couldn’t wait to see Chris Matthews. I simply laughed aloud. Then, my husband wanted to watch the last half hour of NBC Nightly News and it was almost funny to hear HOW CLOSE/HOW TIGHT all these states are…….all easily within the margin of error blah blah blah. Also, I had watched CBS tonight and the gal reporting from PA talked about “how tight” PA is. SO glad this is almost over. I am sick of this mess and lies.

  43. November 5, 2012 at 7:28 pm

To all my friends at TOD: I wish you all the best tomorrow, and may the light shine bright on American and our President!

Special thanks to Chips for creating such a refuge for us. You carried the online fight for PBO while other places went dark.

All of you have made such an important impact on me – not sure if I can ever feel this way again.

Quick story. As many of you know, I live in the district represented by the despicable Joe Walsh. Well, my wife and I along with my m-i-l (may she rest in peace) all got in our votes for Tammy Duckworth as well as PBO. That doesn’t mean we don’t get robocalls. Well, yesterday, we got two robocalls asking us to vote for Walsh. One was from his wife and the other was from (get ready) Pat Boone. Tonight we got one supporting Tammy. This one came from some guy who introduced himself as President Barack Obama. I don’t know. If I hadn’t already voted I would have to look at those two endorsements: Pat Boone or PBO. Which one would I go with? Tough decision. 🙂

  51. November 5, 2012 at 7:49 pm

So I posted earlier about Obama locking up the Christie vote by having Bruce Springsteen call from AF1 when Obama was making his daily call to the Hurricane Sandy elected officials. (Here’s the video of Christie describing meeting “the Boss” and the call: http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/christie-describes-meeting-bruce-springsteen)

So ok for some reason the Romney camp leaked that Christie refused to participate in a rally with Romney yesterday. Why in the world they leaked this story and thought it was a good story for them?

    I’m with Josh Marshall.

Report: Chris Christie Declined Invite To Romney Event Sunday

The Romney campaign seems to have leaked the fact that Mitt Romney asked Chris Christie to appear with him at a rally Saturday night in Morrisville, PA. But Christie declined. This is being portrayed in GOP circles as another example of Christie’s compromised allegiance to the GOP ticket.
But isn’t this borderline certifiable on the part of the Romney camp? Can you imagine the epic crapstorm Christie would have rightly gotten if he left the state in the middle of this catastrophe to go to Pennsylvania to attend a political rally?
It’s frankly such a crazy request that it shows just how deeply Romney’s been stung by Christie’s praise of President Obama.

Hello from my world (11am on 6th), I’m looking forward to seeing the Iowa rally – a night to remember for sure. Meanwhile, when the stress moves in – this is one of my favorites

wait…you’re on a road trip, with 2 bottles of gin and some ice? you’ll need some protein and carbs to take the edge off that–cheesy puffs are highly recommended!

seriously, be safe, and ready for fun tomorrow! 🙂

Thinking about all the great times on this website.

Some of my favorites were the trip to England, Ireland, India. The state dinners, the arts in the WH series. The speeches both here and abroad. The many many campaign speeches. The memorial in Az, the aftermath of the tornadoes in MI. Dag but the list is long.

The long slosh through the BP oil spill. The high seas rescue from pirates. And a big favorite of mine was when PBO went to the rethug retreat with LyningRyan in the front row. Oh god that was sweet! The humor of the WH correspondence dinners, especially the one focusing on ‘the Carnival Barker’.

And the cherry of the night we learned Ben Laden was no more….didn’t ChipsChica sleep through that one??!

But you know what is right up there was when ChipsChica exposed Greenwald and Hamshire. God, but those exposes were brutal. Haven’t heard from either since. Hope that continues.

Great memories people and great people here to share those memories with!

Don’t forget the time he went to the GOP retreat and did that impromptu Q & A , on tape, that smoked the GOP and the televised ACA meeting between the Dems and GOP where the GOP kept trying to “start from scratch” then the ACA was passed.

Another very big favorite. And he was so sweet about it. I would have been screaming at them to stop trying to pull their usual crap, but PBO was steady and responded intelligently to all their bs without rolling his eyes. Not once.

        Unlike me

LunarSea, I was about to thank you for bringing back all those lovely memories – but then you had to remind me that I slept through Bin Laden’s demise 😳

Hilarious! I woke next morning to the news and kind of said “uh oh”. And then got to the site to see 97,372 messages saying “WAKE UP”.

      I still blush 😆

LOL yes everyone was shouting, ‘Wake up Chipsticks’ but we just couldn’t wake you. But that’s okay, because it adds to the great memories of that night. 😆

Actually LunarSea, it might be a good idea if I sleep through tomorrow night, then Willard won’t win a single state – my snoozy habits tend to make amazing things happen.

Don’t even think about it! We need you right here with us. We need you to keep AMK in check, the trolls out, etc etc. We wouldn’t have it any other way!

Oh, gosh. So many, many wonderful days and nights. WOW!!
