I heard this writer on the Thom Hartmann Show today—-wrote “How to Rig an Election” in Harper’s Magazine. It’s an eye-opener. I’m not going into all of it here, but Repubs have gone to court for permission to “recalibrate” computers before the votes are counted in some states.
Quick update from my GOTV effort here in Australia. After contacting a couple of American friends living here in Australia last month to vote from abroad (they had never voted before but both confirmed they now have 🙂 ), one of them forwarded to me this morning an email reply from her nephew she received yesterday. He lives in California….
“I just managed to register to vote in time, voting day here is in 2 days time, and of course I will be voting for Obama! Mitt Romney is a douche bag, I’ve seen all the debates and he is a loser so far out of his depth, he cannot win the election! However the polls have them matched evenly, so it will be a nail biting night on tuesday watching the results. Obama had a tough time stepping into office after Geroge Bush screwed so much up, your right there is not much that he could have done in 4 years, he did reform health finally and caught Osama so that’s good by itself!…….Did you know that Roseanne Barr is running for president?” (of course, as he said above, he is not wasting his vote on Barr)
Election results will come in around 11am Sydney time, so it’s a fairly decent hour (I have my own business so no probs in getting time off 😉 ) but I’ll be around for most of today and through the night enjoying just being with great minded people (I remember staying up all night in 2008, this year will be the same…exciting). #forward
Thanks Bobfr, all in it together 🙂 . Yes, Party! Have to head out and place a bet on our Melbourne Cup Horse Race (it’s the horserace that stops a nation over here, a carnival atmosphere where people go out to lunch, racetracks and everyone stops to watch that race on tv). We also have a sizeable for this country, $100M lotto drawn tonight, but I’ll work all of this around PBO & Michelle’s final campaign stop as I definitely want to watch this live.
Berny it’s really been a pleasure having you on this site. I don’t think I have spoken with you directly but that’s because I’m usually late to the show. However I have enjoyed your enthusiasm and commentary.
Thanks and Hi LunarSea….I see you at times as my timezone covers most of your afternoon, evenings, early early morn etc…we can have a great get together with everyone in these final hours. I usually pivot to twitter, here and OFA 🙂
Call it the ultimate absentee ballot. NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station have the option of voting in tomorrow’s (Nov. 6) presidential election from orbit, hundreds of miles above their nearest polling location.
Astronauts residing on the orbiting lab receive a digital version of their ballot, which is beamed up by Mission Control at the agency’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston. Filled-out ballots find their way back down to Earth along the same path.
“They send it back to Mission Control,” said NASA spokesman Jay Bolden of JSC. “It’s a secure ballot that is then sent directly to the voting authorities.”
This system was made possible by a 1997 bill passed by Texas legislators (nearly all NASA astronauts live in or around Houston). It was first used that same year by David Wolf, who happened to be aboard Russia’s Mir space station at the time.
“You think about being in a foreign country and voting — he was actually on a foreign space station,” Bolden told SPACE.com.
Kudos to that sweet, articulate, sensitive young lady. She’s obviously growing up in the lap of love. I hate to think what she has to go through with bullies and it makes me angry. But the good news is that things ARE changing for the better, however slowly for some.
Even more extraordinary is the fact that this man who we are having a hard time keeping up with, found the time to respond.
I’m just curious has anyone experienced problems with the “True The Vote” crowd? I haven’t had to deal with them because in Washington it’s all absentee (mail in paper ballots). It’s been reported that they’ve been going to minority and democratic districts and intimidating people.
Interesting but if I brought her up to republicans they’d start babbling about her voting straight republican and how it was those vile democrats that suppressed her right to vote.
Democrats grew, changed, and progressed. Republicans stopped growing, changed, and regressed. There is the answer for you for any one who says Susan B. Anthony, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass were Republicans. Then point out to them that the most rabid segregationists and anti women’s rights Democrats became Republicans in the 1960s. 1970s and 1980s.
Our very dear First Lady is really feeling it, the enormity of the moment, all they’ve done, all they’ve contributed and how very, very much they want to carry on – #FORWARD

After PBO is declared winner tomorrow, I hope the whole family gets lots of rest. I believe PBO will have an amazing 4 more years as Pres of US and I am looking forward to that, but like most of you, I’ll be sad to not see him in campaign mode … i better not miss the speech in DM.
I bet that PBO will be like Clinton out there campaigning for other Dems down the road, maybe not the first year after his presidency ends. I bet people will go to rallies PBO speaks at just to hear him speak. You know he will speak at the DNC too. He will write books and we will all be contributing to his library. Hopefully that will not be right away but after 4 more years.

Women could sweep New Hampshire
By ALEXANDER BURNS | 11/5/12 5:53 PM
If Democrats fare well there tomorrow night, New Hampshire could become the first state to be represented by a female governor and an all-female House and Senate delegation.
Evening all. Can’t think of any place I’d rather be tonite than right here listening to my fav pol couple in their very last presidential campaign event.
I’m so excited….in a very good way!
Tomorrow is the day we send these neanderthals back into the stone age where they will wander until they evolve enough to join us in the 21st century.
Full speed ahead into the future! Yippeee! ((((Hugs all around))))
I’m excited and a little jittery and just a bit sad as we witness the end of PBO’s last campaign. It has been such a life-altering experience for me. I know we’re going to win. And I know that all of us will be here every step of the way to pitch in wherever needed in the 4 years ahead. I know President Obama is going to continue to do great things.
I feel great and I am looking forward to being one of the first people in line at my voting place to cast my vote for the President. I was hoping to take a day off to volunteer for GOTV, but sadly I was not able to swing that. I am, however, still confident that the President will win tomorrow.
#2 just got a text from OFA asking her to agree to call one person to GOTV. By replying, she’ll get the name and number for someone to call in a swing state. OFA is on the ball. Coincidentally, the text came in as I was listening to Finneman exalt the great grassroot ground game that PBO has.
How many here will be working the polls tomorrow. I am going to be an election judge at our library. First time to be a judge. I am looking forward to it because I will be busy working and helping people vote. I pray all those people who are fighting for the right to vote will be able to. It is a disgrace to see those lines in Florida and Ohio. We are going to relect the best President for our times. Listening to his speeches are so emotional. We are so fortunate to be here at this time. Now off to fix supper for my husband. We are just having good ole grilled hamburgers and sweet potatoes.
Thanks Marilyn for your work at the polls tomorrow. I hope you have a very inspiring and gratifying experience.
Remember, the lines in FL and Oh are long not only because of the restriction in early voting days – but also because of the spike in voter enthusiasm among Obama supporters/Dems in those areas – many of whom are typically referred to as “unlikely” voters. They also say something about the determination of people who will stand in line for over 5 hrs to cast a ballot.
So we have reason to be optimistic and inspired by those lines. And like you said, we are going to re-elect the best President for our times!
I am going to be a poll watcher……first time doing anything like this. They are putting us in districts/precincts where the local and/or state campaigns are close because, after all, no concern about how the presidential race will be here. Most important time for me to be there is early morning to check the tape to be sure counter is at zero and again after polls close to check counter. I plan on doing some going and coming, making sure I am there at the busiest times.
Have to share this: Was reading our paper earlier and there was an article about the local Republican’s Club…..their recent meeting and some of them were interviewed for this article. John Duncan (my congressman) and couple others said their prediction holds: That Romney will win with at least 300 EV. One of them said he couldn’t wait to see Chris Matthews. I simply laughed aloud. Then, my husband wanted to watch the last half hour of NBC Nightly News and it was almost funny to hear HOW CLOSE/HOW TIGHT all these states are…….all easily within the margin of error blah blah blah. Also, I had watched CBS tonight and the gal reporting from PA talked about “how tight” PA is. SO glad this is almost over. I am sick of this mess and lies.
HBO has been awesome TV today. It’s allowed me to ignore the talking heads all day. It’s been an all day marathon of Harry Potter and Game Change. To continue on with the awesomeness, TBS has a marathon of Family Guy tonight. Woot! Woot!
Oh UT – I’m so disappointed that you missed Chuck Todd’s riveting analysis of the electoral map all day and this evening. I can tell you are sad about it too. My condolences.
Hey guys, I just got a text asking me to make one phone call. They are sending me a name and number. I am going to a meeting tonight but I can make one phone call for our wonderful President!
Asswipe willard campaigning in Cleveland and Pittsburgh ON ELECTION DAY. WHY?? Campaign response was “for something to do.
REAL REASON: To disrupt traffic with his motorcade and security to make it harder for people to get to the polls. SUCH A NASTY, CHICKEN-SHIT BASTARD!
“You know who else campaigned on Election Day? No, John McCain in 2008 — in Colorado & New Mexico. But why would Romney follow the loser McCain move? It makes no sense” “Cleveland and Pittsburgh?? Messing up traffic and logistics in D strongholds.”
Quick story. As many of you know, I live in the district represented by the despicable Joe Walsh. Well, my wife and I along with my m-i-l (may she rest in peace) all got in our votes for Tammy Duckworth as well as PBO. That doesn’t mean we don’t get robocalls. Well, yesterday, we got two robocalls asking us to vote for Walsh. One was from his wife and the other was from (get ready) Pat Boone. Tonight we got one supporting Tammy. This one came from some guy who introduced himself as President Barack Obama. I don’t know. If I hadn’t already voted I would have to look at those two endorsements: Pat Boone or PBO. Which one would I go with? Tough decision. 🙂
Ah Japa, that’s sublime! We were cracking up yesterday about the Pat Boone robocalls …. but to have that ‘balanced’ by a call from President Obama?! Love it!!
Thank you. I hadn’t mentioned it before. She went peacefully in familiar surroundings, surrounded by people who she loved and who loved her. Can’t ask for more than that.
Japa – sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I know we were all hoping she’d make it to the election, but so glad that she managed to cast her vote. You must know that she probably really appreciated having her family around her for the past several years to take care of her and keep her company. And casting her last vote for President Obama was a wonderful thing to enable. Tomorrow, we need to make it count!
So ok for some reason the Romney camp leaked that Christie refused to participate in a rally with Romney yesterday. Why in the world they leaked this story and thought it was a good story for them?
The Romney campaign seems to have leaked the fact that Mitt Romney asked Chris Christie to appear with him at a rally Saturday night in Morrisville, PA. But Christie declined. This is being portrayed in GOP circles as another example of Christie’s compromised allegiance to the GOP ticket.
But isn’t this borderline certifiable on the part of the Romney camp? Can you imagine the epic crapstorm Christie would have rightly gotten if he left the state in the middle of this catastrophe to go to Pennsylvania to attend a political rally?
It’s frankly such a crazy request that it shows just how deeply Romney’s been stung by Christie’s praise of President Obama.
I hope Christie will become a moderate if he runs for president. If he follows the “Romney” template Bruce and no independents will trust him. He won’t make it past the primaries if the teabaggers regroup and are around in 2016…Elephants never forget.
Hello from my world (11am on 6th), I’m looking forward to seeing the Iowa rally – a night to remember for sure. Meanwhile, when the stress moves in – this is one of my favorites
wait…you’re on a road trip, with 2 bottles of gin and some ice? you’ll need some protein and carbs to take the edge off that–cheesy puffs are highly recommended!
Thinking about all the great times on this website.
Some of my favorites were the trip to England, Ireland, India. The state dinners, the arts in the WH series. The speeches both here and abroad. The many many campaign speeches. The memorial in Az, the aftermath of the tornadoes in MI. Dag but the list is long.
The long slosh through the BP oil spill. The high seas rescue from pirates. And a big favorite of mine was when PBO went to the rethug retreat with LyningRyan in the front row. Oh god that was sweet! The humor of the WH correspondence dinners, especially the one focusing on ‘the Carnival Barker’.
And the cherry of the night we learned Ben Laden was no more….didn’t ChipsChica sleep through that one??!
But you know what is right up there was when ChipsChica exposed Greenwald and Hamshire. God, but those exposes were brutal. Haven’t heard from either since. Hope that continues.
Great memories people and great people here to share those memories with!
Don’t forget the time he went to the GOP retreat and did that impromptu Q & A , on tape, that smoked the GOP and the televised ACA meeting between the Dems and GOP where the GOP kept trying to “start from scratch” then the ACA was passed.
Another very big favorite. And he was so sweet about it. I would have been screaming at them to stop trying to pull their usual crap, but PBO was steady and responded intelligently to all their bs without rolling his eyes. Not once.
LunarSea, I was about to thank you for bringing back all those lovely memories – but then you had to remind me that I slept through Bin Laden’s demise 😳
Hilarious! I woke next morning to the news and kind of said “uh oh”. And then got to the site to see 97,372 messages saying “WAKE UP”.
LOL yes everyone was shouting, ‘Wake up Chipsticks’ but we just couldn’t wake you. But that’s okay, because it adds to the great memories of that night. 😆
Actually LunarSea, it might be a good idea if I sleep through tomorrow night, then Willard won’t win a single state – my snoozy habits tend to make amazing things happen.
Don’t even think about it! We need you right here with us. We need you to keep AMK in check, the trolls out, etc etc. We wouldn’t have it any other way!
Hello
Win
I’m on it!
Okay I’ll settle for third. Congrats RanMan.
Thanks y756
You’ll get’em next time captain. *salute*
Request permission to come aboard?
I could tell that PBO was already starting to get emotional from that speech. It will be even more so tonight!
Yeah. I noticed that too. Tonight’s going to be emotional for all us I suspect.
I still say that the Ohio SOS needs to be arrested and held over for bond til after the election.
Chris Matthews ‘Let Me Finish’ for PBO was simply epic.

aloha chips and tods! not first, but so glad to be here!!
The more people scream, the louder we are, the better chance we have for them to pull the tabulators, or uninstall the patches.
I appreciate your tweets, fortunately, DOJ and OFA is privy to these shananigans.

I won’t repeat all my Iowa nostalgia I just posted in last thread (never fails—as I finish, there’s chips with “new post everyone”—-conspiracy!) but I want everyone to see this about “Ending where it all began”.

First Lady campaign event in Florida is on CNN, there is no audio yet.
There’s audio now 🙂
The audio is on now, so I’m about to listen to our wonderful First Lady.
Why would Romney be so selfish to ask Christie to leave the crisis situation in New Jersey to waste time campaigning with him in Pennsylvania?
Anyone have a link for Michelle’s final speech in Orlando?

Real Clear Politics (a right-wing Forbes owned site) has Tester’s opponent Rehberg up by 0.4. BUT, and that’s a big BUT, the only reason is due to the RW Mason-Dixie poll which has Rehberg up by 4. PPP has Tester up by 2 and Rasmussen has him up by 1.

Tomorrow is the day we send these neanderthals back into the stone age where they will wander until they evolve enough to join us in the 21st century.
Full speed ahead into the future! Yippeee! ((((Hugs all around))))
Now to see how much I can catch up on before ‘the last rally’
GM folks
Love it, Tally!!!!
#TrustBarack
Nate’s now got it 89% odds President Obama is re-elected …
I am not seeing it, Bob. It’s still 86.3%.
Though sam wang moved up EV to 310 (from 303) and chance to 98.4%. (from 98.2%)
It was in one of his tweets … and I didn’t have time to copy/paste it, amk … so much stuff going on today I’m sorta scrambling. Sorry
Indeed. I have been flipping to so many voting sites that I am going to start spewing %’s instead words soon.
😆 Me t%%.
wise ass.
LOL
Hi guys, how is everybody doing? 🙂
Pretty awesome. Calm yet excited.
I alternate between being tense and being elated. It’s gonna be a long 24 hours.
Hi BWD! I’m well. Excited, mildly emotional, but okay otherwise. I hope you fit in at least a couple hrs sleep between now and tomorrow evening. 🙂
More importantly, how you are doing, bwd?
I know we’re winning and I’m scared to death. The usual, you know.
Yeah. the usual. 😀
We really want to crush the rethugs, don’t we ? Alas, unlike genius, the human stupidity has no limits.
I have such great faith in PBO!!!! I know the people of America will fight for this man. We will win tomorrow and keep this country going FORWARD!!!
Thank you BWD for all that you have done and are doing.
I’m feeling damn good!
ROFLMAO You could just see them having an inner battle trying to refute that
#2 just got a text from OFA asking her to agree to call one person to GOTV. By replying, she’ll get the name and number for someone to call in a swing state. OFA is on the ball. Coincidentally, the text came in as I was listening to Finneman exalt the great grassroot ground game that PBO has.
OFA has been awesome this cycle. mtmarilyn below sez she also got a call.
Thank you HF for all your great contributions here at TOD!!! You are an inspiration. We will all win this together!!!!!
To all my friends at TOD: I wish you all the best tomorrow, and may the light shine bright on American and our President!
Special thanks to Chips for creating such a refuge for us. You carried the online fight for PBO while other places went dark.
All of you have made such an important impact on me – not sure if I can ever feel this way again.
I’ll be back to tune in tomorrow night (into Wed morning) to enjoy the collective love!
Regards to all,
Steve Garcia
Thank you for this beautiful message.
“You carried the online fight for PBO while other places went dark.” Thank goodness for that!
A little history revisited.
Goodness, this is even better the second time!!!
Severely on point.
Messing up traffic and logistics in D strongholds.”
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/05/1156223/-Why-Romney-s-in-Cleveland-Pittsburgh-on-Election-Day-Fox-News-Guy-Gives-It-Away
That’s the move of a desperate loser. And trust me, it won’t impact the outcome of the election.
I saw a tweet from #Edshow that Tweety’s Republican brother is voting for Obama this year.
Yes, Tweety announced this on his show. I was shocked. 🙂
Hopefully his number is unlisted. Heads exploding in 3.2.1…
Quick story.
Love it!!
Did you ask for the burth surtificayte ? I mean that of pat boone.
Sorry about your MIL. Didn’t know.
Thank you. I hadn’t mentioned it before. She went peacefully in familiar surroundings, surrounded by people who she loved and who loved her. Can’t ask for more than that.
Amen.
“Can’t ask for more than that” It’s true
Japa – sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I know we were all hoping she’d make it to the election, but so glad that she managed to cast her vote. You must know that she probably really appreciated having her family around her for the past several years to take care of her and keep her company. And casting her last vote for President Obama was a wonderful thing to enable. Tomorrow, we need to make it count!
Oh, I’m so glad he did that for her. She is going to win and you’ll soon be rid of that horrible idiot.
Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law!. May she Rest In Peace. Deepest condolences to you and your family
So I posted earlier about Obama locking up the Christie vote by having Bruce Springsteen call from AF1 when Obama was making his daily call to the Hurricane Sandy elected officials. (Here’s the video of Christie describing meeting “the Boss” and the call: http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/christie-describes-meeting-bruce-springsteen)
So ok for some reason the Romney camp leaked that Christie refused to participate in a rally with Romney yesterday. Why in the world they leaked this story and thought it was a good story for them?
I’m with Josh Marshall.
Report: Chris Christie Declined Invite To Romney Event Sunday
I hope Christie will become a moderate if he runs for president. If he follows the “Romney” template Bruce and no independents will trust him. He won’t make it past the primaries if the teabaggers regroup and are around in 2016…Elephants never forget.
They all look vaguely familiar. Who are these guyz?
Awesome sauce!
Hello from my world (11am on 6th), I’m looking forward to seeing the Iowa rally – a night to remember for sure. Meanwhile, when the stress moves in – this is one of my favorites
Try that again without the https
hahaha I remember that. Laughed so hard. Thanks for posting it.
Ok, I am all set for you-better-not-sleep-tonight-you-bonehead session.
Two bottles of Bombay Sapphire – Check
Six bottles of Tonic water – Check
A dozen lime wedges – Check
Ice – …..??? O Chips…
LOLz. You are a riot. Wish we could all do one great big giant Skype in the Sky!!
Ok, I am off to a 5 hour road trip to my factory.
So you all are safe. (so you would think)
Huh, just walking out on us? Sheesh. Safe trip, see ya soon.
wait…you’re on a road trip, with 2 bottles of gin and some ice? you’ll need some protein and carbs to take the edge off that–cheesy puffs are highly recommended!
seriously, be safe, and ready for fun tomorrow! 🙂
Not once.
Unlike me
LunarSea, I was about to thank you for bringing back all those lovely memories – but then you had to remind me that I slept through Bin Laden’s demise 😳
Hilarious! I woke next morning to the news and kind of said “uh oh”. And then got to the site to see 97,372 messages saying “WAKE UP”.
I still blush 😆
LOL yes everyone was shouting, ‘Wake up Chipsticks’ but we just couldn’t wake you. But that’s okay, because it adds to the great memories of that night. 😆
Actually LunarSea, it might be a good idea if I sleep through tomorrow night, then Willard won’t win a single state – my snoozy habits tend to make amazing things happen.
Don’t even think about it! We need you right here with us. We need you to keep AMK in check, the trolls out, etc etc. We wouldn’t have it any other way!
LunarSea, I’ve long since given up trying to keep Amk in check. But I will be very awake tomorrow, promise!!
Oh, gosh. So many, many wonderful days and nights. WOW!!
New post everyone:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/11/05/yes-we-can-and-yes-we-will/
Yeah, but…
O’bama’s fault!
(couldn’t resist the apostrophe in his name, after thinking of the Ireland trip)
