      I can’t see Romney going above 44%. This is the number of people who thought he was doing a fabulous job with the Hurricane Sandy crisis – so they will likely be obtuse enough to vote for him and against themselves. I’m surprised the number is that high, in fact, but it is what it is. These are the McCain-Palin crowd.

    [There he goes again! From The Guardian]:

    What is it about Mitt Romney and Italians? The Republican presidential candidate seems to be possessed of a sublime capacity for, well, pissing them off.

    He was at it again on Thursday in Roanoke, Virginia, where he was reported by the Italian news agency Ansa as having asked his audience: “If you’re an entrepreneur and you’re thinking of starting up a business, you need to ask yourself: Is America on the same road as Greece? Are we on the path to an economic crisis like that we’re seeing in Europe, in Italy and Spain?”

    Italians, who thought they’d just put the worse of the eurozone crisis behind them, are not exactly thrilled at being mentioned in the same breath as the Greeks. The Republican candidate’s remarks were picked up by news websites here and given front-page prominence. La Repubblica ran an aggrieved comment from one of its correspondents in the US:

    “The American right needs enemies. Italy, along with Spain and Greece, is the ideal bogeyman … the negative paradigm, the model of all that should not be done in terms of statism and nanny-statery.”

      I love that the paper made it clear that it’s the American right that is looking for enemies. The spotlight is on the GOP on a number of issues.

    For those who might be wondering where the Orange Man is, Willard has his rally in Cincinnati tonight:

    “Not surprisingly, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and their wives will be on hand, as will Kid Rock, who’ll apparently provide some entertainment. But take a look at the first six names on the media advisory:

    * U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner
    * Secretary Condoleezza Rice
    * Secretary Elaine Chao
    * Governor Bobby Jindal
    * Governor Tom Ridge
    * Senator Rob Portman”

    The might as well just name the guest list: Bush Administration Redux, including Brownie!

    FORT MYERS, FLORIDA – Long lines at polling places have been a familiar sight this week, but two hours in line is nothing compared to how long one Fort Myers, Florida woman chose to wait.

    For the first time in her 99 years of life, Rosie Lewis cast a ballot. …

    …. Lewis was in her 50s by the time Jim Crow laws were abolished. Her grandson said that helps explain why she waited this long to vote.

    “She was already set in her ways, and wasn’t really thinking about politics,” he said.

    Now she’s one year away from the century mark and not secretive about the candidate she supports.

    “I love Obama,” she said.

    “Ms. Rosie should be an inspiration to all of our young people and old people,” Ware said. “You never get too old to exercise your right.”

    I love the part where POTUS is talking about trust, about character, about how you know him, you know where he stand, what he believes. He is asking the question, can you say the same thing about Mitt Romney? Can you trust Romney?

    I just had an excellent conversation with SSgt Taborn (an Obama supporter) about the unemployment rate, debt and economy.

    One of his points is the economy is limping along but Reagan’s recovery (and Bush’s low unemployment) was fueled by debt and we can no longer finance a quick fix. He thinks we put too much emphasis on the UE rate and we should be focusing on the debt. Cutting government spending is necessary but not to the point where it will hurt innovation. We’re basically in a crack withdrawal phase right now but if we can get through tough rehab, we’ll be alright.

    I believe we got this!
