Good Evening, All: AuntSis reporting in from Miami Beach Precinct. 4th day of Early voting in Florida. Drove past my polling location and the parking lot was full, of course! The line, the waiting line covered 3 sides of the building. That is wayyyyy more than a 20 minute wait. Sometimes, sometimes, I love Americans. Regardless of who they are voting for, I am pleased to see such a longer line on the 4th day of early voting. I am hoping and praying that as we get closer to Saturday (11/3 โ€“ last day of early voting), the lines will grow longer and longer. I am a dreamer and a believer and would love it if PBO carried Miami-Dade County and the state.

    I fucking hate bloomberg-

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday he turned down President Obama’s request to visit the storm-damaged city, but didn’t intend to “dis” the president in doing do.

“What I pointed out to him is that we’d love to have him, but we’ve got lots of things to do,” Bloomberg said at an early evening press conference, noting he spoke to the president and White House chief of staff Jack Lew earlier in the day.

“I’m not trying dis him, but I know he had planned a trip to New Jersey and I said that’s fine, it represents the whole region, people understand the storm,” Bloomberg added. “He’s got a lot of things to do and I was flattered that he offered to come, but I think the thing for him to do is to go to New Jersey and represent the country.”

The mayor also noted that on Obama’s conference call with governors and mayors from along the East Coast, the local leaders repeatedly thanked Obama for his service.

“You know, there was a lot of criticism of FEMA back in the Katrina days and today you hear nothing but good things about FEMA and they certainly have been very helpful to us,” Bloomberg said.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

    What a prick!

If the President had not come to New York, we would hear him complaining that they are being ignored by the President during this difficult time and a visit would help. The President cannot win for losing with these hypocrites.

Andrew Cuomo isn’t really much better than Michael Bloomberg with regard to President Obama…

Both suffer from serious bouts of ODS…

Andrew Cuomo just hasn’t done his anti-President Obama schtick as publicly or quite as often as Bloomberg – but he harbors just as much resentment and envy of the President…

No different really from that which afflicts folks like Donald Trump, Pataki etc. and even lowlier folk like Jake Tapper, Chuck Todd etc….

Just manifests ever so slightly differently for most of them…

      • October 30, 2012 at 7:20 pm

Bloomberg needs to go. He makes it sound like the President just wanted a photo op, and yet nothing could be further from the truth. He could have made his comments without all the editorializing.

      • October 31, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Well, Rachael Maddow said the POTUS wants a photo op in Jersey. I am beginning to dislike many Progressives and Independents.

        • 42 theo67
          October 31, 2012 at 5:45 pm

I really could care less what Rachel Maddow’s cynicism leads her to believe and then communicate. Anyone’s who’s been watching President Obama these years knows that he cares about people – and that’s why he got into politics, and believes in service, in the first place. Will he get a political opportunity here? Yes. Will he be happy about the opportunity to demonstrate to people what good government looks like? Yes. Will he take advantage of the photo ops that come with doing the job of being PResident? Yes. Is any of that a bad thing,a nd does any of it erase the very real fact that the President has stayed up around the clock, prepared for this disaster and effectively executed the plans they put in place? Not at all. He worked to become the President – worked very hard. He’s done an incredible job. But, even if he wasn’t the President, he woudl still embody those qualities and values that drive him to help him fellow man – love, compassion, empathy, dedication, earnestness, selflessness. This is who he is. And it says a lot about Rachel Maddow that she can’t see and appreciate that, and that she attempts to cheapen the President’s actions by trying to drag him into the place where she is.

    • October 30, 2012 at 7:18 pm

That would be my question as well, maybe someone can educate me in the difference between a Governor and a Mayor in the U.S. It was like Gov. Christie was the spokesman for NJ and Bloomberg was the spokesman for NYC, at least when it came down to press conferences.

On NBC Nightly News Chuck Todd said both candidates suspended their campaigns, but Mitt Romney held a relief event for storm victims. He made it sound like there was no politics at all at Romney’s Ohio event, just Mitt passing the hat for disaster relief. It was such a dishonest, distorted report. Then he said both campaigns were “bickering back and forth” about the Romney Jeep ad lie, except that’s not how he described it—-made it sound like an honest dispute. He only showed the anti-Obama ad, not the Obama response ad, showed a partial statement from Chrysler disputing the ad but wound up saying something like the facts are up in the air. It was a shameful, disgusting, distorted, dishonest report—-news media at its lowest ebb.

    • October 30, 2012 at 7:04 pm

        October 30, 2012 at 7:24 pm

I just feel, as an American citizen, I have the right to watch the evening news and expect an earnest attempt to report the truth. I don’t think we can improve anything by ignoring them, by pretending that what they are reporting doesn’t exist. Our democracy depends on an honest news media. There is no democracy if there is no truth in our news media. I think we need to stay alert, let them know we see what they’re doing, apply pressure to change —–in big numbers. People need to wipe their sleepy eyes, rise up and demand change. Everything depends on it.

Now because of the storm people are paying attention and more are willing to go vote so in case something like this happens on election day we do not end up with a โ€˜president Romneyโ€™ ( ugh now I have to go wash myself for using that phrase).

            HI Everyone

I am exhausted but happy. Being a team leader is hard, but the folks on my team are so kind, dedicated and commited, it is worth it. Plus however hard we are working, the President is working harder.

So far the new headquarters has been a challenge. We had rain that caused leaks in the ceiling, stinky carpet because of the rain, new temporary carpet, broken bathroom, stinky hallway, and now a little more rain before it is clear skies until the election.

I am learning to be a network technician, travel agent to nevada, soother of worried Dems, and solver of problems that fall from the sky. When the election is over I will show pictures of the headquarters that are decorated with hundreds of pictures from TOD.

Coming here each day is soothing, encouraging, and one of the only peaceful activities of my day.

            Virtual hugs to you all.

Romney Campaign Plays Convention Video At โ€˜Non-Politicalโ€™ Storm Relief Event in Ohio

The event itself was billed as a โ€œstorm reliefโ€ benefit, and the Romney campaign asked supporters to bring with them food and other goods to donate to victims of the storm. But soon, reporters poked holes in the campaignโ€™s explanation for staging the rally. First, the relief event was scheduled for the same time and location as a recently canceled political rally. Then, photos emerged, showing that donors were asked to wait to drop off their goods until Romney arrived to accept them himself, suggesting a photo op not unlike the one his running mate Paul Ryan staged earlier this month in a soup kitchen. And Salon noticed that the targeted recipient of all of the donations โ€” the Red Cross โ€” doesnโ€™t even accept most of what the Romney campaign collected in Ohio.

I’ve had my problems with Bill Clinton, but I think he and President Obama have gotten closer in the last year or so. I sense that something has changed. That embrace at the DNC was real. I’m happy, and grateful, that President Clinton is campaigning hard for President Obama, especially this week when the President has to stay in Washington.

I was listening to Karen Finney today on some show and boy was I ever so glad President Obama smartly passed on her as his spokesperson…

        She really isn’t very good…

Actually she is very mediocre at best…

And to think she was DNC spokesperson sometime in the past…(and we wonder why Dems are so bad at getting their message out!)

Republicans are great at message discipline and are careful about the impact of words and phrases and all that impactful and pertinent psyops stuff…

Even on his worst day, you would never hear a Republican address George W. Bush as “Bush” – not even if everyone around them was doing so…

But you have Karen Finney on talking about “Obama” – not President Obama…

This ‘habit’ in the media has largely aided the insidious push to diminish a great President…

And Karen Finney who ought to know better as a much touted ‘media/communications’ person glibly falls into that trap again and again…

I agree, the President is looking and acting like a real Commander-in-Chief in the midst of a national crisis; he is doing his job, which is not a presidential candidate … but a President. Meanwhile, Michelle can be a sweet-talking but hard hitting surrogate, and you know as GoBrookly says below, V.P. Biden and Bill Clinton can tell it like it is …. call out Willard’s lies as our President cannot! Go Team!

Thanks for the info, criquet. Why pollsters choose to ignore actual early voting numbers and not revise their likely voter screens accordingly is puzzling, to say the least. For example, Gallup and Ras likely voter screens predict minority turnout levels seen in 2000 and 2004, while early voting numbers clearly illustrate minority voting enthusiasm at 2008 levels. This results in them thinking the election will be 80% white and 20% minority. In 2008, minority voters comprised 28% of the voters. So basically they are undercounting PBO’s support by about 8%. This is why the registered voter and likely voter models are so divergent. This undercounting of the minority vote does not make sense when one looks at demographic changes in the country, minority early voting, huge gains in hispanic voter registration and hispanic support for PBO, the fact that PBO was not on the ballot in 2000 or 2004 (one would think 2008 numbers would be more predictive of 2012 than the outdated 2000 and 2004 demographics). This is a long way of saying these likely voter screens create a fantasy world where the electorate is unchanged from 2004 and PBO is not on the ballot. They did this for the sole purpose of feeding the MSM/GOP meme of Mittmentum.

    For all you wonderful people

I have had days of living without power in a flood affected area and it is no fun whatsoever – compared to those who had their homes under water & lost most of what they owned – it comes down to being “not so bad” – but to an extent that realization hits when the power is restored.

What we wanted – that we didn’t have & couldn’t get – was milk, bread and a method to cook & boil water! The first thing I bought when we could get to the shops was a small gas cooker.

What Romney has collected with his cans and packets of corn flakes is pointless, useless and degrading. We HAD cornflakes (no milk), cans – a cupboard full – we did eat the canned fruit – everything else needed heat.

He shows his ignorance of living in the real world – not everyone can fly out to their “other home” after such an event. Romney had NO idea what is needed – and wants to disband/defund any organization that knows what to do.

He has now shown through 2 major events that he is not fit to be the doormat at the whitehouse. Bless all you folks working so hard, and those suffering from the storms – you have relected your President – and he ensures “We take care of our own” – ALL of our own.

    • October 30, 2012 at 8:15 pm

Evening all I just wanted to bring over a comment back from two threads ago from 57andFemale

She pointed out something very interesting! The White House, initiated by President Obama had been practicing for several disaster scenarios! One of them being a Category 3 Hurricane hitting NYC!!! Yet another example of incredible level of competence by our President!

    Press Gaggle:

“In addition to that, I wanted to flag two other things that may be useful for your reporting as you’re working in terms of covering this story related to Hurricane Irene. The first is, in 2009, the Obama administration conducted a national-level exercise. What this is, is basically a simulation or an exercise from federal officials to prepare for different emergency situations.

One of the first exercises that they conducted along these lines was actually simulating or exercising around a category 3 hurricane striking New York City. This is an exercise that the President participated in, in 2009. And the reason I raise this is because the federal government’s preparations for this storm didnโ€™t just begin as the clouds started to gather and form a tropical depression, but rather that the federal government, and this administration in particular, is constantly exercising and preparing and testing and evaluating our readiness for situations like this.”

Methinks all this points to the fact that climate change has got to become a big issue. Like one of ‘Tweety’s guest said, “There is no emergency room for a sick planet”.
The rwnj’s are worried about leaving their kids debt free but a dollar won’t buy shit in the jungle/desert!

    • October 30, 2012 at 8:23 pm

      Very cool.

Forced to listen to a battery operated radio while my power was out, I got to listen to the Governors of the Tri-State area – Gov. Malloy, Cuomo and Christie. I have to say that I was impressed with all three even though I don’t like Cuomo and Christie very much. It was so nice to hear politicians being professional.

Anyway, Cuomo remarked often about how THIS administration’s reaction to the storm was way better than what it used to be in previous administrations. Even Clinton’s. He said the technology is better but he was very impressed with how prepared the admin was.

MYTH could easily FLIP at least 10% of votes from those precincts.

I think President Obama’s actual leadership shows up Romney every day. All Romney has is lies, and people are getting wise to him. Watch the President’s Red Cross video, it’s great and shows exactly what he is.
I’m proud of Biden, Clinton, Flotus and VFlotus doing so much in his stead. We’ve all said he has needed surrogates for the last four years, and now he has some superb ones.
President Obama will get major props for doing what he should be doing. He doesn’t play at being president, he IS president, and takes care of all of us.
Have you all noticed that panic was not the order of the day as the storm came? So different from GWB…..people who mattered KNEW arrangements were made. How different from seven years ago.
My good friend in Silver Spring, MD just called. They are fine. I had called the last two nights, and last night she was watching a big tree in her yard hoping it wouldn’t break. It didn’t. (Her landline phone is gone, but cell phone was fine!)
Feel so bad for the victims of this storm! We in Oklahoma know tornadoes, but they are not like this hurricane and superstorm!!!

    • 154 theo67
      October 30, 2012 at 11:12 pm

Carolyn, I’ve also been thinking about the calm that prevailed before the storm. Even though the President was adamant and urgent in his warnings and pre-storm preparations – and the fact that he came home from Florida to manage the storm efforts – people were calm. I think knowing that President Obama was on the case, made many people much more calm and assured.

Love this: “He doesn’t play at being president, he IS president, and takes care of all of us”.

I just want to say that I love NYC and my heart is hurting for what they are experiencing right now and places like Breezy Point, NY; If our beloved President wants to pay it a visit, I would feel his position needs no invitation from Bloomberg and I am sure there are other officials, and/or celebrities in NYC who would be honored and feel reassured and comforted by a visit from him. That is how I feel.

Bloomberg’s behavior is offensive. Especially when the President has been doing everything to help, and any thinking person who’s been watching him knows that he doesn’t have a grand-standing heart. If he wants to go to NY, it’s because he wants to understand the damage. Bloomberg is a fool.

Bloomberg gets off on endlessly trying to diminish President Obama…

He holds a grudge against the President that’s impossible to miss…

It’s the sort of childish, petty, spiteful stuff that smacks of silly rage-filled hate stemming from unrequited love…

Like that from a man whose wife leaves him and joins a nunnery after falling for the strong, handsome, kind, wise dedicated monk she can’t have…

Bloomberg hates President Obama for possessing all the great qualities he lacks and will never have…

And it kills Bloomberg that the one thing he does have – money – is something President Obama could very easily amass if he cared enough and actually desired it…

Michael Lewis the author, remarked that amongst other things, one thing he marveled about President Obama was the fact that he really didn’t care about money…

He had opportunities to make tons of it, but largely shunned it…

Mitt Romneyโ€™s latest advertising campaign suggesting that the auto bailout recipients Chrysler and General Motors were shifting jobs to China drew him into a public argument with top executives at both companies, who condemned the advertisements as false on Tuesday.

โ€œThe ad is cynical campaign politics at its worst,โ€ Greg Martin, a spokesman for General Motors, said in an interview late Tuesday. โ€œWe think creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back in this country should be a source of bipartisan pride.โ€

It was unclear whether Mr. Romneyโ€™s new strategy is advantageous, given the reaction.

The Romney campaign has insisted that its ad merely states the truth: Jeeps are not currently made in China and soon will be, creating jobs there instead of at home. โ€œIt would be better if they expanded production in the U.S. instead of expanding in China,โ€ said Stuart Stevens, a senior adviser to Mr. Romney.

โ€œThat is absolutely bereft of any fundamental understanding of the global automotive industry,โ€ Mr. Martin said. โ€œAll global manufacturers, whether General Motors, Ford, Chrysler or VW, build historically in the markets in which we sell.โ€

Now who do you think would know better about if Jeeps were moving jobs to China, the people who is in charge of Chrysler and GM, or some bold face liar like Mitt Romney and his campaign.

Just getting caught up and it has been busy! Love the responses rom GM and Chrysler regarding the ads. I have to say it sure looks like Mittens is imploding. He had that same sick look on his face today that he had all summer. The “swagger” seems to have disappeared. Although I’m thrilled, his campaign should be sued for malpractice both with respect to these ads and the way he handled his campaign after Sandy.

But there is some really good news. A couple of folks at DK have done some OUTSTANDING work on the NC numbers and we have a real shot at it. First, 30% of the AA adult population–not just registered voters–had voted through the Sunday. That is using the 2010 census numbers. Incredible. Second, someone ran all of the registered voter ID numbers against those who voted in 2008 and 2010 and in fact a good share of PBO’s numbers are the “sporadic” or new voters who would never make it through a likely voter screen. Conversely, a good share of the R/R voters are simply voting day voters who are now voting early rather than new or sporadic voters. The folks on the ground there, and all those who are phonebanking into NC, should be commended. I’m so glad to see their hard work is paying off.

OMG. The pathetic piece of shit is taking a beating in Massachusetts. I’m just hoping/praying he loses exactly one week from tonight and then the IRS and Justice Dept makes him close neighbors with Bernie Madoff.

And the rest of America should take a cue from MA who actually knows a thing or two about Romney’s style of governing.

I read that on realclearpolitics (yes I manage to swallow the bile once in awhile to read their polling) and have to say that poll made me smile. It would be so utterly sweet to see that disgusting man Romney lose by such a wide margin.

Hey TODobots who are awake, how about a little choir practice? /No, not like the one at a former employment where the expression was used for a Friday afternoon trip for a drink , alcohol being a no-no on premises/ A real choir practice. As per the instruction of my high school music teacher, 1st year, I’ll mouth the words as I can’t really sing.

I was going to ask: Where’s amk?! But he’s probably on a flight to Sri Lanka as we speak. I’ve told wifey of amk and Bobfr’s day gigs, and she’s suitably impressed.

Evening everyone… I had big plans to travel to Ohio tomorrow to work for the Obama Campaign. I have come down with a terrible cough that I haven’t been able to shake. Sadly, I will be grounded here in Chicago through election day. Sad about it but I have complete faith in everyone who is working so hard in Ohio to bring that state home.

Kerry Washington was on Chelsea Lately and she made very clear that it’s her character that sleeps with the president and the fictional president at that. apparently there are people who’ve possibly been wondering about that! She was so cute. Chelsea said “but don’t you work more with the First Lady, so if you were sleeping with one of them, it would likely be her, right?” Kerry goes: ” Michelle is very like able.” The audience laughed and cheered. Hahahahahahaha!! ๐Ÿ˜† they both encouraged everyone to vote.

Relellit linked to this frightening article in a reply to me upthread. Needs attention. GOP stealing elections, vote switching in large precincts. I hope and assume the Justice Dept. is aware.

I hope so too, damn! Why can’t the U.S. get back to a paper vote, these machines are just a sample of how to buy an election. It makes me sick to my stomach. These effing bastards, the republican party, are the worst cult in America. I hope all of this goes viral, extremely viral in this next week. The media really needs to pick this up. But then again, I guess they are paid off by this cult of money.
