Hello ck and xtine, I’m doing well. So far in my area of MD (Montgomery County) we have steady (but not heavy) rain, and slight wind. The worst is expected late this afternoon into this evening and will continue through tomorrow morning.
Work is closed today and probably will be tomorrow as well. I will be INSIDE for the next 24-48 hrs. 🙂 Take care ck – be safe and hope donna is as well.
Good Morning. I have been up since 4:25am worrying about all those people living in the path of Hurricane Sandy, including my two kids in Philadelphia. Hope all of you have a wonderful day.
I’m worried about the impact on family, too, Betsey. Have a lot of relatives in New Jersey and our little 2 month old granddaughter is in Alexandria. It’s rainy and windy here in SE PA and everyone seems braced for the worst. We just got an e-mail from our county saying that there will be back up generators in place for voters on November 6 if the electricity is down. Just praying we all dig out of this storm in one piece and everyone is well and online again.
GM you all! It’s great to see CK on line today! Sure hope things don’t hit too hard and that everyone will be safe, even if water-logged. Good Morning, Ms Drive-by Chips! Great to see the signs of your passing.
Congrats on first, Lisa! GM to all…. Betsy, I too have friends in Philly, hoping the storm calms down a bit when it hits land. Ms Chips, hope you don’t have too much of a headache today after all that celebrating!
OMG!! I am ROTFLMFAO. What a video. I am one of the most liberal people for cussing but hearing that sweet old lady using the MF expression just killed me!! As for the AA lady talking about cock punching well, Just glad I didn’t have any water in my mouth!
On a more serious note, please stay safe all of you in the path of hurricane Sandy. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Good Morning Chips and TODER’s. CK, HF, and all of you that are in the path of this storm, please stay safe. ((((hugs))))) to you all, sending prayers and hope your way. Everyone else, have a great one. R
Hey donna – from the weather reports, it sounds like the worst will begin late this afternoon and continue through tonight into tomorrow morning. Be safe!
Yep! The company I work for NEVER EVER closes. Even with those blizzards we had a couple of years ago they opened their doors. Granted only a handful of employees who live close by the office showed up and the rest of us were granted paid leave. To my surprise I got a text from my manager at 10:00PM last night telling me that we were closed today. 2/3rds of our employees commute via public transportation. Once Metro closed down everything they had no choice. Needless to say I wasn’t going in anyway and had already let my staff know that!!!!
Good Morning TOD! Its been raining here since yesterday and schools, city, state and federal offices are closed. We’re getting some wind but its really not bad at all. If it does not get any worse, we’re in great shape!
Yes. He’s going back to DC but Bill Clinton will cover for him in Florida and I believe Clinton will join VP Biden in Ohio tomorrow. Latest news is that Pres. Obama will remain in DC today and tomorrow to assess the damage and make sure affected states receive all the help they need.
Yes, I was concerned last night when I saw that he was scheduled to land in DC at 2:45Pm – which is when the strongest winds will have kicked in. Apart from genuine concerns for his safety, the optics of PBO being stuck in a hurricane from campaigning would be terrible!
I believe so far he has cancelled campaign events scheduled for today and tomorrow. I imagine the entire week is in flux depending on how the storm unfolds.
Bunkered down here in MD, not too bad right now, still have electricity. Watching news on TV & they are showing Sandy’s power in Ocean City, MD! Huge waves & Sandy hasn’t landed yet!
The federal government’s ability to respond to natural disasters, like Hurricane Sandy currently bearing down on the East Coast, would be significantly hindered under a Romney-Ryan administration.
At least three times, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have publicly demanded that the federal government only disburse disaster relief funding if Congress agreed to offsetting budget cuts elsewhere. This would hold desperately-needed disaster relief funding hostage unless Congress agreed to cuts elsewhere in the budget, an extraordinarily difficult prospect even in normal circumstances.
Though GOP Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) became the public face of such intransigence in the wake of natural disaster last year, Romney and Ryan have repeatedly made clear they agree with Cantor’s position.
I seem to remember a certain storm in Cantor’s district that “had to be paid for or offset” before the people in HIS district would be helped in any way!!
I’ve been thinking about this massive storm. Got up in the middle of the night to check. I’m from the East Coast…have family and friends there that I worry about. I worry about those in the path of this storm that I DON’T KNOW! These selfish, self serving bastards have NO PROBLEM handing OUR money to oil companies for their subsidies, but when it comes to disasters that effect millions of ordinary Americans? Well…we have a fight on our hands and have to offset that money somewhere else! This is BS. That’s why we PAY taxes! We DON’T pay taxes to give our money away to oil companies!
I’ve been in a few hurricanes in my life. No fun.I was in them all alone because my husband would have to leave with his ship (Navy) and go out to sea where the ships were safer. Newborn baby and me at home.It was scary. When these natural disasters occur, how the federal govt responds, means everything. This is one of those times when we do better as a country,,,when we pull together and help out neighbors and friends. When crews come in from surrounding states…and sometimes Canada, after the storm and help those states get their infrastructure put back together again…where we’re truly, all in this together.
Neighbor looking out for neighbor…making sure that everyone is alright and safe. In every small strand of a community, all the way up to the federal govt…caring for the citizens together, and doing what needs to be done to make the community whole again. This is the best of us. This is what Americans do for each other in a time of need. I would ask all those “taxed enough already” folks…if they have depended on the feds after this storm. I would ask if they are grateful. I don’t think that RWNJ’s LIKE the fact that they see govt work well. I would contend that it almost upsets them to see a well oiled govt help its citizens through trying times…it undermines the meme that govt is broken and can’t do anything, therefore, we don’t need it….another reason in their long laundry list of just why they hate PBO…because he makes the govt work well, and be accountable to ALL THE PEOPLE!! Not just a select few….and along the way, in a disaster like this…have the better angels in all of us come out to help one another. Double wammy. I pray for the safety of all those in this storms path…but understand that we will all get through this. Together.
Beautifully stated DF. I’ve just moved here… and frankly am unsure how this old house will stand up under the rain & wind, but I have an underlying calm/trust that with President Obama in charge- we’re in good, reliable hands and all that can be done WILL be done to insure our safety as far as humanly possible.
Great post, DF. This is 1000 percent on the mark. Selfishness only carries you so far. In times of need or disaster it can kill you. We all need each other. We’ve been getting great, regular e-mails from our Dem County Commissioner on steps to take, shelters to go to, emergency actions and plans for election day. It’s a whole community planning together to protect each other.
Good Morning TOD. Getting rain and a little wind here in Richmond. Tonight into tomorrow morning is when they expect the worst. Hopefully it won’t be too bad. I am praying for my hometown of NYC and the surrounding areas — I have lots of friends and family there who are a bit rattled by what they’re seeing but are hunkered down and safe thus far.
Ever since I revealed Mitt Romney’s 47 percent rant, tips and tapes have come through the transom—including this and this. And another source who asked not to be identified just sent me an audio recording of a private Mitt Romney fundraiser from earlier this year. At this event, Romney didn’t decry half of the nation, but he and Ann Romney each expressed disdain for President Barack Obama, with the Republican presidential candidate asserting that Obama considers businesspeople “a necessary evil” and his wife suggesting that the president was not a “grown-up.”
snip/
After being introduced, the Republican candidate noted that he had been pushed into his second campaign for president by his wife:
David, you mentioned Ann, and the fact that she insisted that I get in this race. That is the truth. I wanted to talk it over with her. And every time I’d say, “Let’s talk about the pros and cons,” she’d say, “Talk to the hand, talk to the hand. We’re just doing this. We’ve got to do it.” And so she absolutely insisted that I get in this because she was convinced that I was the only one that had the capacity to beat President Obama.
MUCH more BS in here….goodness sakes they live in a fantasy world of selfish ugliness…
Good morning, TOD family. Prayers, thoughts and hopes for everyone in the northeast!! (Includes my daughter and her family in Chesapeake. Daddy is at the bottom of the ocean on a sub.)
Did any of you hear Jamal Simmons on Bill Press? He said the Romney campaign has totally outsourced its GOTV…….said that inside the campaign (in Boston) there is zero GOTV but outsourced to RNC, Ralph Reed’s group and others like that.
HEADLINE: Latino Decisions: Obama 73, Romney 21 with Hispanic voters
//Barack Obama’s 52-point lead in the new Latino Decisions tracking poll matches his widest advantage of the year: Overall, Obama has the support of 73% of all Latino registered voters, compared to 21% who favor Romney. The 52-point gap matches the largest gap among Latinos this year, also found in the October 1 tracking poll.
For the ten weeks the impreMedia-Latino Decisions poll has been taken the most important issue for Latinos consistently has been the economy and the latest release revealed that Romney and the Republican party have been unable to convince Latino voters that they will be better at improving the it. Seventy-three percent of Latino voters trust Obama and the Democrats to make the right decisions to improve the economy compared to only 18% that trust Romney and the Republicans. //
Are these the same reporters that claim that the President is aloof and distant? They follow him 24/7 at all his campaign events, see the love the people shower on the President and how he returns the love, then they report back that he is aloof and distant. Serves them right to be stuck and grounded by Sandy.
i always felt it was Miss Ann who was the driving force behind the Willard candidacy. She wants to be Queen. Here she is caught several times insinuating PBO is not a “grown-up”, keeps saying we need a real grown up in charge. These people are sick.
Also on tape: when Mitt wanted to discuss pros/cons of running in '12 Ann insisted he do it, said, "talk to the hand" http://t.co/oEiPyVM1
I don’t like the interviewer’s tone, she doesn’t even seem to be listening to the answers, only trying to get her prepared questions in, but Team O handled that.
Perhaps, maybe, does this man(whoever he is) refer to that Government “of the People, by the People, and for the People”, or am I thinking something else? How (and why) do you guys watch these shows?
Not so bad—–earn 5 mill a year and just have to stand out there a couple times a year with your pants flapping, rain in face, maybe hang onto a tree for dramatic effect, and then go back into your luxury lodging until the next report. Not too tough. Or, do you mean the guys that actually fly into the hurricane? That job, like tornado chasers, takes a special breed of cat.
IBD/TIPP suspending polling due to Sandy. Any pollster that doesn’t suspend polling reveals themselves to be the frauds that they are. No way the Northeast can be polled fairly during this storm.
The GOP’s trying to cover for Romney. Unfortunately for them, there are these things called FACTS and also a lousy candidate and campaign who actually confirmed that he does indeed want to privatize FEMA.
I hope that everyone understands that he wants to PRIVATIZE FEMA…thereby allowing companies to profit off the misery and desperation of others….at the worst moment in their lives. I do not have nice things to say right now….
In coming back to the blog after lunch I saw a Yahoo News title saying Romney’s campaign said he supports government FEMA program. I did not click on the title to read the article since it is not surprising to me that Mitt would walk back his earlier opinion. He has no opinions only views he think will get him further with that audience in that moment.
Mr. Cosby, I’m so glad you see the truth. Instead of rolling up their sleeves and working with this President to get this country out of the hole G.W. left it in, the Republicans plotted against the President, they did nothing to help the economy and the American people.
Except, we saw that guy who “gets it, knows it” – and it is a whole lot better since he came on the scene. Whenever I hear people talking as though nothing got done in the first term, I know they actually have no facts to draw on. Anyone who’s been paying attention and participating in all these battles that President Obama has fought, knows exactly what good he’s done in these first four years. They also know that it’s critical that he get a second term so he can get the credit for that work. And that he could do zero in a second term and still go down in history as a transformative President.
OK I guess I better get to work before ppl start noticing that I’m laughing intermittently (ie Horse mask guy up thread jogging through the rain! bah ha!)
This week at work is going to be tough but I am taking time off for GOTV. Thanks to everyone for working so hard. And all you Easterners: Be Safe.
TODers, our team has put together a new website to counter all the last minute lies attacks on POTUS that come via MSM, twitter, FB and email. Keep this handy and report all of it so we can fight back:
How patriarchal, Christian political backlash has become more vicious——see Obama not as just a political opponent but someone out to destroy them and is inherently evil. Why Romney can get away with compulsive lying and all kinds of nonsensical, ever-changing policy statements. Does not matter. Sickos.
So true. Let’s hope she asked some semi-intelligent questions. I can’t watch – even for President Obama. I’m being very judicial to anything that seems to be a waste of time and non-constructive.
That Forward Tour video is awesome. Have to watch it about a bazillion times. Took next week off from work so I can devote myself to last push. Just signed myself up for Sat, Sun, Mon, and Tues 9am – 9pm shifts at the Santa Monica staging location. Looks like we’re calling battleground states. Also just got an email this morning that we may be moving the final push to a larger facility. We must be keeping the Operations Manager busy finding us places large enough for us to GOTV.
TY, I was pretending I wasn’t a little unnerved by that flight. Pilots are excellent. But, please don’t go flying around in this weird weather! I understand they were driving from AAFB.
Good morning everyone. Please stay safe if you are in Sandy’s path. Did anyone watch Morning Joke? Please, can you tell me if they were respecful to the President, if they spliced the tape and lied? I couldn’t bare to watch it so any feedback will be appreciated.
A man and a harried looking woman arrive at a supermarket at the same time and there is only one shopping cart. The woman asks the man if he wants that shopping cart. The man says, ” No, You take it. I am here to buy only one item”.
As the woman takes the cart, the man hears her mutter “Typical male”.
G’day mates. To you on the Eastern seaboard, I wish you well and safe harbor until the storm blows over. We’re not like Navy ships that can steam out of harms way so we must stand and suffer what the sea offers. When this storm clears I fear that our coastline will be permanently altered and folks who haven’t paid attention or couldn’t will pay a terrible price.
Sorry for the word salad. Just remembering some hurricane/typhoons I’ve lived through.
Does this mean the President has returned to the White House? Where was he? Isn’t Michelle out in Iowa? I wish they were all in the White House safe and sound. Maybe Bill will stay in Florida, be safer there than trying to return to NYC.
I think in Colirado early voting, we are not gaining because, young kids are probably voting for Gary Johnson.
Why?
Because legalizing Marijuana is on the ballot in that state.
Just a supposition, but it makes sense, unfortunately!
A question for the pundits here, when do the Ads start and where showing Romney’s statements calling for abolition of FEMA and the statement that disaster aid is immoral??
On a sunny and crisp 50 degree day in Iowa, where the hurricane will have no direct effect on the election, the first lady said “our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy, and Barack has assured state and local authorities that he is going to cut through red tape” before launching into an emotional campaign speech that had echoes of her remarks last month at the Democratic National Convention.
“This election is a choice about the America that we want to leave for our kids and our grandkids,” Obama said to a ballroom of supporters here Monday afternoon. She praised her husband’s record, citing his health-care overhaul, the end of the war in Iraq and the killing of Osama bin Laden.
“Yes, while we still have more work to do to completely rebuild our economy, there are more and more signs everyday that we are moving in the right direction,” the first lady continued, citing more than 30 months of private sector growth.
Late Monday afternoon she is scheduled to hold a similar event in Sioux City. Iowa is where the road to the White House began for the Obamas in 2008, and Michelle Obama said being back in the state brought her to a ”full circle” moment.
GM!
Yay Lisa!
Hey I saw this in my inbox this morning from the campaign. Has anyone had a chance to check it out?
http://my.barackobama.com/Forward-This-Clinton-Video
Good Morning Lisa! Way to get this party started! 🙂
Congrats Lisa on being first. Good morning TODers and my prayers are with all those that are impacted by Hurrican Sandy. Be safe.
Morning Chipsticks!
GM Family. 😉 It’s rainy and windy here in D.C. We’re bracing for impact. Hopefully it won’t be too bad.
GM CK! Are you bunkered? Donna, HF how are you? And all TODers in path of Sandy?
CK, I wish you had let me know that you were not prepared for the storm. I would have gotten you water and snacks. Will you be okay?????
Yes, I should be fine. 🙂
Hi HF, good to hear. Work is closed, couldn’t get there anyway! It’s now started coming down. Our Gov. just gave a presser. Stay safe!
ck, were you able to locate water? Are you alone or with friends or family?
Everyone in the path, please stay safe and check in when you can.
I’m sort of alone. I have my own room in my dorm, but my suitemate is here.
OK, good.
Thanks meta. As long as I have power I will be on TOD throughout the day – if the power goes out I will check in occasionally via phone.
Great, hf.
Good Morning. I have been up since 4:25am worrying about all those people living in the path of Hurricane Sandy, including my two kids in Philadelphia. Hope all of you have a wonderful day.

Me too. My kids are hunkered down with plenty of food and candles, they tell me. So I try not to worry.
Pic of bridge in Newport News….
Holy…..BLEEEP.
We have floating bridges in WA, so that didn’t look odd to me.
GM folks. GM Chips
I’m seriously late getting started today
yeah, 18 glasses of champagne tends to slow you down a wee bit.
18 bottles…
What were you celebrating?
Waiting for sandy.
Good morning everyone.

Heading in to work. Everyone in the path of the storm, be safe and evacuate if/when you should.
Is Clinton still doing the event, somebody needs to let these People down easy?
Here is my answer-
That is wise!
We can still watch this, right?
SURE! Thanks Jovie.
Did you hear the crap that the POTUS will owe Clinton for his reelection.
No. Don’t wish to. Crap, indeed.
Good Morning TOD! Its been raining here since yesterday and schools, city, state and federal offices are closed. We’re getting some wind but its really not bad at all. If it does not get any worse, we’re in great shape!
not too bad here either in Baltimore.. although the wind is picking up a bit & steady rain.
Jovie has PBO cancelled all his campaign events?

Anyone needing any extra push to GOTV should listen to these two entitled jackasses.
He is lying again. It is he that wants to be President. Romney is a consumate liar.

The First Lady is in Iowa right, do anyone have any information on any events she is to attend today or tomorrow.
I think all the First Lady’s (as well as VP Biden’s) events for today and tomorrow have been cancelled as well.
Thanks for the info hopefruit2.
Apparently I was wrong! See UT’s comment below 🙂

What this tells me, HF, is that Latinos and AA’s are the smartest segments of the population. Oh, and women, of course.
They can stay there too.
Cue whinesfest.
Also.Too. Isn’t Bermuda Triangle nearby ? Just sayin’.
bwa hahahaha sweet sweet Schadenfreude
YAY!!!!!!!!! 😆
They’re sitting in those teacups @ that Disney kiddie ride singing “It’s a small world!” And social media is making their world a lot smaller.
Take the hint, shills.

Whoa, has David Corn unleashed another private Romney tape?
Yes. From a fundraiser before the infamouts 47% fundraiser.
So add out and out lying to Ann Romney’s list: she’s been claiming she didn’t want him to run. LIAR.
Do you happen to have a link to them saying Ann didn’t want him to run? I’d love to spread this etchasketch story on Twitter
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/10/romney-fundraiser-obama-business-evil?
Spread it far and wide. It’s getting good twitter coverage in my small part of the twitterverse, but the more the merrier!
Yes he has. Check his TL!
Wow, that woman is psycho.
Ann Romney is … repulsive.
You beat me to it!
“F” Howard Fineman.
That’s forget, not the other word.
I’d have used the other one.
why are we still posting Coward’s bs musings? hello?! that dog don’t bark!
agree 100% with you lisa.
Not this idjit again.
Here is a more credible guy on the election right now – one well worth watching!
http://www.bloomberg.com/video/white-house-adviser-plouffe-calls-romney-dishonest-LOCSJKM~QKWVoz42ebo~oQ.html
Coward Fineman is obsessed with the President. PBO is the last thing on his mind before sleeping, and the first thing on his mind when waking up.
Hey that’s me! 🙂
I want that job that has you out in the middle of a Hurricane, reporting what’s up.
Now, that is something I would look forward to? Not!
During Katrina? Waiting for the flood to hit you in the face?
Wasn’t POTUS on Morning Joke this morning? Any reports? Not seeing anything on twitter.
He handled himself well, but all of media focused on Sandra Dee.
Sandra Dee?!?!
Hurricane Sandy.
DUH!!!!!

IBD/TIPP suspending polling due to Sandy. Any pollster that doesn’t suspend polling reveals themselves to be the frauds that they are. No way the Northeast can be polled fairly during this storm.
Correct.

In WTF news. 😆
It takes all kinds … that’s all that can be said about this. Lol.
The GOP’s trying to cover for Romney. Unfortunately for them, there are these things called FACTS and also a lousy candidate and campaign who actually confirmed that he does indeed want to privatize FEMA.
Facts! oh THOSE things…… overrated according to Mittens! RT’d
The daily beast is wrong that is exactly what he said!

What time is the event in Orlando Florida?
10:00AM
Their goes Jim Webb throwing Democrats under the bus in Virginia.
Give me a break! Tell Jim, to go take his job on K Street and STFU.
For those wondering about FLOTUS’s campaign plans, seems like it’s going ahead.
Besides Clinton’s Orlando stop, Vice President Biden is heading to Ohio today; Michelle Obama is in Iowa; and Dr. Jill Biden has events in Colorado.

Have a great day, alice!
Yikes—–90mph
TODers, our team has put together a new website to counter all the last minute lies attacks on POTUS that come via MSM, twitter, FB and email. Keep this handy and report all of it so we can fight back:

GM all. My prayers and thoughts for all those in the path of Sandy. Stay safe.
What Japa said.
What japa said x 2
What Japa said x3.
What Japa said x5 plus a thank you! 🙂
Lots of folks there! That’s good, encouraging early voting.
Penny wise, Pound foolish. Team Obama’s smarter in their strategy.
Pres. Bill Clinton in Orlando now: http://www.wftv.com/s/watchlive/
Thanks, Pam. Crowd loving Bill!
How patriarchal, Christian political backlash has become more vicious——see Obama not as just a political opponent but someone out to destroy them and is inherently evil. Why Romney can get away with compulsive lying and all kinds of nonsensical, ever-changing policy statements. Does not matter. Sickos.

Here is the clip of PBO from Morning Joe. Actually he just interviewed with Mika while out on the trail. I did not watch the clip. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036789/ns/msnbc_tv-morning_joe/#49594656

I’m glad that President Obama gave you an interview even though at times you act like a real ass during the daily press briefings.
So true. Let’s hope she asked some semi-intelligent questions. I can’t watch – even for President Obama. I’m being very judicial to anything that seems to be a waste of time and non-constructive.
LIVE: Clinton campaigns for Obama – http://www.cnn.com/video/flashLive/live.html?stream=1
I’ve never known any candidate so bereft of a moral compass.
And a nation so willing to allow him into the sacred “White” House.
Bill is awesome this morning! Professorial, funny and strongly supporting our PBO!
President Clinton was wonderful! TY, PBC!
One of the GREATEST tweets I’ve ever seen:
This!
Thankfully, AF1 has landed at Andrews—— after a “sometimes turbulent” flight.
TY dotster – I was wondering where to check that
TY, I was pretending I wasn’t a little unnerved by that flight.
It actually was an interview Mika conducted on the campaign trail. I posted the link above somewhere. I didn’t watch it though.
I watched about half of it. PBO was awesome. Joe controlled the parts I saw even though Mika kicked it off.
Hey miss pat, I’m linking to Ut’s summary of PBO’s interview with Morning Joke.

Typical male.
Good morning Ms Chips and TODbots!!! Please stay safe all in Sandy’s path. My thoughts and prayers with all of you. FORWARD!!!!

New post everyone, back in a while:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/10/29/keep-safe-everyone/
