New Hampshire, October 27 (Photos by Scout Tufankjian for Obama for America)

****

Mooooooooorning everyone. It’s another busy-ish Sunday, but I’ll drop in and out through the day and will update with newsie stuff later.

It’s a comical notion, but if by any chance Chelsea beat Manchester United today – 🙄 – UT and LL’s comments will go straight to spam until around, ooooh, August 2017. Just letting you know, in case you’re wondering where they’ve gone.

PS Sorry again for not replying yet to a bunch of emails, just didn’t get a chance yesterday. Will do asap!

Great Pics as always chips! On my way to work. Every day I am not working I am volunteering. Lots of people voted yesterday in Florida. Huge lines and huge dem turnout. I vote in every election…primaries, state, local, school board you name it. I have not seen lines like this since 2008.

    These photos are phenomenal, Chips.

6th picture down: it takes 8 secret service guys to ride herd on PBO. They are not playing.

They way the children look at him and the way that he interacts with them is so precious.

I also love how our guy can just hang with the fellas drinking a pint in such a natural way.

Another favorite is of the woman in the restaurant who looks so overwhelmed to see him.

And last, I love that he is still wearing his pink breast cancer awareness bracelet.

I see that our PBO will be presidenting to make sure that all is well in the wake of Hurricane Sandy instead of campaigning. That is our guy, always on the job, caring for us. I hope the pele of New York do not suffer because their mayor is. d–k.

Good morning everyone. I posted this late last night but am reposting. VA is allowing early voting by in person absentee ballot due to the storm. I assume OFA VA has been advised but please get the word out through twitter, etc.

For those of you working VA, and those who tweet: The Virginia Board of Elections is recommending that local election registrars accommodate those who want to vote absentee in person due to the potential impact of Sandy. Please spread the word!

LOL!! I was looking at the NH pictures when it dawned on me. Most of these folks are white. This could be a Romney event. Then I looked at the faces and realized you could NEVER mistake this for a Romney event. The people are all different ages and everyone looks happy. No nasty hate filled faces, no bored looks–Has to be an event featuring POTUS!

    Good morning, TODville!!

I want to thank everyone on the previous thread for a very thoughtful discussion of the media. And I also want to apologize to Chips and everyone for offending TODers by bringing that MSM jerk’s tweet here last night. I didn’t mean to upset anyone. I absolutely despise the news media for abandoning their journalistic purpose and substituting it with their empty and manipulative gut reactions to everything under the sun. It shames our nation, destroys our democracy and produces a very uniformed populace that has become addicted to insipid drama. I can’t wait for their demise. Thanks to everyone here who has made a positive contribution to the discourse in this election. We are going to WIN.

    FOWARD.

I wasn’t offended. I was amused by Howard Fineman’s ignorance. If at this point, it takes a pundit’s idiotic tweet to get us depressed, that says more about us than them. I view their tweets as a tool for my mockery and a fire in my belly to make sure we win. You’re good with me Meta, all day everyday. 😀

I took it as being informed on what’s happening out there. It’s a difficult balance, and Chips and everyone here tries their damnedest, between being informed and what becomes negative for our enthusiasm. We struggle with on a daily basis. I certainly took no offense at bringing Fineman’s actions here for some discussion. It was part of the narrative that we have to fight.

  19. October 28, 2012 at 8:54 am

This site always makes me feel better! It’s hard to believe how fast the past four years have gone by. Al lot of those children in the photos haven’t even known any other president.

    • 83 Ceb
      October 28, 2012 at 9:05 am

As PBO always says “we are the ones that we have been waiting for.” When institutions fail us we hold them accountable, work to change or to replace them. The greatest community organizer that there has ever been, whose area of influence is the world, has remined us that we have always had power, and finally, after a long sleep, we are exercising it. Chips is our community organizer and look at all of the smart, dedicated, energized, and just good people have gathered beneath her standard to be warriors for the common man and our President. Do not fear, all will be well.

  20. October 28, 2012 at 8:57 am

I adore Scout photos. There’s always a ton of emotional content in each one of them. And all the photos of POTUS with children reveal his innate gentleness. So incredibly moving.

    • October 28, 2012 at 9:05 am

She’s just brilliant Meta, I bought her book from the last campaign and look at it often, the photos are majestic. Her style – and the tone of the photos – is just unique, like nothing I’ve seen before. And she captures the most amazing expressions on people’s faces, love her.

Not all the MSM has been played:

The Des Moines Register’s Practical Joke

    by Michael Tomasky

    Oct 28, 2012 7:50 AM EDT

This Romney endorsement editorial, if you actually bother to read it, is little more than a practical joke. First of all, it has all the hallmarks of having been ordered by the publisher over the objections of the editorial board. Normally, a sentence like “the Register’s editorial board, as it should, had a vigorous debate over this endorsement,” translated into blunt English means: “Our idiot publisher forced this tripe down our throats, and we’re counting on you the more knowledgeable readers to understand this.”

The argument, such as it is, is as substanceless as meringue. Mitt Romney could “forge compromises with Congress” to get the economy rolling again? The first part of that might actually be true, but only because the Democrats in Congress aren’t nearly as ideologically hidebound and politically obstreperous as their GOP counterparts.

But the second part, fixing the economy, creating jobs, tackling the deficit? Romney has been ridiculously vague on all these things. The editorial doesn’t so much as gesture in that direction. And then bam, the editorial ends. Just when you think it might start mounting such “arguments,” it ends. I actually hit the refresh button three times, as I couldn’t believe the entire editorial had loaded properly. It’s as Potemkin Village-ish a piece of journalistic writing as I’ve seen in a long time.

Sadly, it probably will make a small difference, although I’m sure the politically inside elite out in Iowa is laughing about this morning. Most polls indicate that Obama has a couple of points to spare in the state. We’ll see. You can ask Hillary Clinton how much good the DMR did her in January 2008/

A couple of other notes—–just FYI, the editor of the DMR is not the same as the lady editor who endorsed Obama in ’08, a new rt. wing conservative editor was brought in a year ago.
Indy Star has endorsed the Dem Donnelly, not “God intended a rape/pregnancy” crazy goofball Mourdock.

      • 95 criquet
        October 28, 2012 at 9:47 am

Speaking of NC ,here’s a great endorsement:

“Ever since he electrified the 2004 Democratic National Convention with a keynote speech, Barack Obama of Chicago had been marked as a man who might be destined for the White House. Destiny was fulfilled sooner than expected. The then-Illinois senator, a first-termer, was introduced to the next convention four years later as the nominee after a brutal series of primaries that saw him overcome candidates that included Hillary Clinton, the accomplished first lady who now is his secretary of state.

Now Obama seeks a second term, having weathered some early problems dealing with his own Democrats when they controlled Congress, and then running into a brick wall in a Republican-run House.

Yet despite congressional Republicans who vowed to make their first priority his defeat at all costs, the president has accomplished much in his first term”

I love the image of the woman crossing her arms over her heart as she looks at PBO with love–so identified with that. Today my house is once again a staging area with lots of people passing in and out. Got lots of snacks and drinks ready for the canvassers and phonebankers. Next week, we do our staging area in an empty downtown storefront location that will have to be transformed into a functioning center in a few hours. Have to take a deep breath ’cause there’s so much to do.

Okay, I am more than pissed off right now, i am totally livid. Is it true that Ann Romney gave an interview stating that American public education system should be thrown out and be replaced with charter schools?. Is this woman for real? Why do the Romney family hate 99% of Americans? I guess they figure that only rich children can be allowed to attend schools, and poor kids who cannot afford private schools should just suck it up and find a more practical way to fend for themselves. I have never in my life disliked two people more than the pompous and egotistical Romney clan, I hope after November 7th, that both Ann and Mitt will permanently retire to the Cayman Islands, and never to seen on my TV screen ever again.

http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/family/celebrity-interviews/ann-romney-interview-2012-election The whole pathetic thing is here.

GH: Can you tell me, what campaign issue is closest to your heart?
AR: I’ve been a First Lady of the State. I have seen what happens to people’s lives if they don’t get a proper education. And we know the answers to that. The charter schools have provided the answers. The teachers’ unions are preventing those things from happening, from bringing real change to our educational system. We need to throw out the system.

Jewel, this is a great topic for your local call-in radio show and a Letter to the Editor. Make sure you tell all of your neighbors with children and spread the word about this outrageous anti-teacher statement.

      • 180 Obama Grandmama
        October 28, 2012 at 5:04 pm

Personally, as a retired public school elementary teacher of 22 years, I think the choice of having some magnet schools which is like charter schools but is within the public schools is a better route than private for profit schools. That way some children could be reached through their interest such as the arts, sports, science, math, writing etc.

Every private school teacher I came in contact with only could teach in private schools if they had a spouse working with benefits so they were not the sole breadwinner. Also the schools could throw out students that were discipline problems or did not achieve at the rate they wanted while public schools take everyone. I experienced many home schooled kids and private schooled kids coming back to public school after they were behind their grade level. I am sure there are also those that are ahead of the public school level too.

One objection I have is skimming the best students from the public schools to go to the private schools paying by vouchers. The public schools need diversity and all levels of academic achievement for all students to progress academically, socially, physically, empathetically, etc. I used to have an integrated classroom where it contained the marginal 1% of students that were academically and mentally challenged within the normal classroom. All kids benefitted from it. The challenged children had role models to emulate whereas the other kids learned to appreciate differences and become tolerant and kind to others. Mitt Romney must have missed these learning experiences in his private school.

Romney will win but I predict Obama will keep it closer than Kerry did. I have not seen or heard ONE Presidential ad at all this year. There isn’t even that many Presidential yard signs anywhere. Most of Missouri is more focused on the Senate race. McCaskill is still leading Akin although the race has tightened a lil bit in the last two weeks. Akin has been bringing in Big-Name Republicans to help him which is probably why while McCaskill has had to cancel a lot of campaign stops this week due to her mother being extremely ill. Gov. Nixon will easily beat his Republican challenger while I expect all of the other statewide Democrats (A.G., Treasurer, etc.) to win reelection. Missouri is an odd state. Republicans control large majorities in the State Senate and House while Democrats control the majority of the Executive Branch (Governor, Treasurer, S.O.S. and A.G.). We have 4 Democrats House of Representatives and 5 Republicans (Soon to be 3 to 5 due to losing a House Seat.) We have 1 GOP Senator and 1 Democrat. Yet on the national scale in terms of President, we’re slowly slipping away from the Democrats.
