Paul Krugman: For a few days there the Romney campaign was boasting a lot about having Big Mo — and the press corps actually fell for it, briefly. At this point, however, the reality seems to be sinking in: if Romney has Big Mo, it looks like this:

Despite the Denver Debacle and its aftermath, state polls are showing a clear Obama lead in the electoral college, which if anything is getting a bit stronger….

Why? Jonathan Cohn singles out the auto bailout, and rightly so. I’d add, however, that the killing of Osama bin Laden mattered too …. what the auto rescue and the bin Laden strike have in common is that they were both very courageous decisions — decisions that could easily have gone wrong, that faced lots of second-guessing. You can criticize Obama for many things (and I have, and will in future), but he showed true grit when it mattered, and now seems likely to reap the reward.

Charles Blow: The saying goes: A man is known by the company he keeps. If that is true, what does the company Mitt Romney keeps say about him?

….. Sununu has apologized, somewhat, for his racial attack on Powell’s motives. But what should we make of all this?

We have a very racially divided electorate …. I worry that Sununu’s statements intentionally go beyond recognizing racial disparities and seek to exploit them.

What does that say about Romney, and what does it say about his campaign’s tactics?

Remember: A man is known by the company he keeps.

Mediaite: Bill Maher used his final New Rule of the night to warn voters unhappy with President Obama of the political and social consequences of the other guy winning. Maher argued that Mitt Romney winning the presidency would not just be a victory for him, but for every Republican extremist Romney has ever supported in his recent political career. Maher said Romney “may seem like a nice fella,” but he’s “a compulsive liar whose whole life is secret” and would bring too much unwanted baggage into a relationship with America.

…. Maher also warned about the “fresh can of nuts” in Congress with wildly anti-scientific beliefs that would have more free reign under a Republican administration. Maher said that a Republican in the White House would mean the return of “Bible-thumping bullshit” in government.

You can love or hate Bill Maher but sometimes what he says makes sense in a very practical way. if you have ever married the guy of your dreams then met his crazy family later, you’ll know what he means.

Hey TOD! Pumped up today; going to GOTV all weekend. I love spreading my Obama love over the phone lines; gets me pumped up! As a matter of a fact, after a day of phonebanking, I feel like I have to come down from the high of talking about our fantastic President! Any of you have these feelings?!

I watched Bill Maher; one thing that annoyed me was him saying the President doesn’t have as many white people voting for him. I think that’s bull shit. I think Romney doesn’t have any what people consider to be “minorities” voting for him.

      Loved Barney Frank, as always.

      Happy phonebanking everyone!

This weekend’s GOTV effort is going to be amazing. It’s freaking freezing here in Texas but I’m super excited and the feedback I’ve been getting from Floridians, warms my heart despite the insane cold.

Chips…thank you for all you do. Don’t count Florida out!! Long lines this morning. I voted at the Library by my house. I was going to a different one because I was picking up people to take to vote. I decided if the lines were long…we would have a better chance of finding a parking space by my library. I was right. We had very long lines before the polls opened but behind me were people that had gone to the downtown Library but the lines were already around the building so they came to ours. Great line. met 150 new people in a small group within a larger line. All I saw were Obama voters…White, Black, Asian, and Latino. Only one voiced a Romney vote. Everyone else I saw were Dem voters. Took two hours to get to the front…cast my 3 page (front and back) ballot. Dems straight down, no on all Amendments and retain all judges so Rick Scott can’t appoint any. We had a blast. Off to work now. Calling a sign waving later this week.

    Morning all TODweb Villagers.

I am grateful for the work that Chipsticks does for the re-election of PBO. Thank you.

I came in here today to say that David Letterman was NOT turning on Pres Obama as was written by a couple of people here yesterday. I wanted to set that straight. But Lady Chips did it already. Dr. Rachel Maddow showed a clip of how Letterman totally humiliated the bigot, Donald Trump. Trumps face was totally and severely re-arranged. I loved it as Letterman used Trump’s Ties and shirts made in CHINA…..to absolutely make Trump eat his own elephant POOP.

    Thank you Chips.

I loved Trump’s takedown by Letterman too! It reminded me of PBO’s takedown at that Journalists’ banquet the Sat before the Bin Laden is dead announcement.

Ties made in China, shirts made in Bangladesh…that was too funny. I haven’t had a chance to really keep up with you all, so I wasn’t aware that folks had issues with Dave. I saw that segment with Rachel and at first I was upset with him, but the exchange between the two was really an opportunity for clarity…Rachel answered questions/concerns that Dave conveniently asked. I saw it as a slick way for Dave to help PBO out like he did the other night with Trump. Sometimes things are not what they appear to be.

Excellent read. Fortune does indeed favor the brave, that’s why I hate it when they call this President “lucky.” He has made the hard call, the smart call, the audacious call, the brave call — time and time again, going way back in his life — and to dismiss it all as luck is stupid and ridiculous.

      Krugman gets it.

My polling place was awesome. I got there about 7:40 and had to wait for 20 minutes of so. I was out by 8:15. I wasn’t expecting a line because of the whole ‘beach’ mentality. I was pleasantly surprised and happy. The group represented every aspect of America – black, white, Hispanic, college, seniors. The cars in lot ranged from Hondas, Saturns, BMWs and everything in between. The gentleman in front of me seemed to be of Asian background and was reading the bible and praying to himself. Hispanic guy with an “government didn’t build it” T shirt. I saw Heat t-shirts, Yankees t-shirt and a guy across the street was wearing a “47%” homemade t-shirt. Males, females. All aspects of America coming to exercise their right to vote. I was so very pleased.

~WHAT DOES TEXAS HAVE TO HIDE~

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) sent a clear message to any United Nations elections observers who might show up in the state to monitor polling places around the country: if you show up in Texas you’ll get arrested.

In a letter to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, a body created by U.N. charter and tasked with helping ensure the integrity of elections worldwide, Abbott made it clear that as far as Texas was concerned diplomatic poll-watchers were not welcome. “It may be a criminal offense for OSCE’s representatives to maintain a presence within 100 feet of a polling place’s entrance,” the letter states. “Failure to comply with these requirements could subject the OSCE’s representatives to criminal prosecution for violating state law

      Yardarm…..

Truth be told we have been engaged in this struggle for a long time….for our side…our mistake, IMO, is that when we have won a battle, be it voting rights, uniion rights, woment’s rights, etc….we have thought that we had won the war!!….not so…the other side licks it wounds but they do not give up…

      and neither should we….

~The Struggle Continues~~~…ever on and on….just as PBO has been organizing since before 2008 so too will we have to forever keep our boots on the ground and continue to fight for the America that benefits us all not just a few…

We have not descended into an armed struggle yet…

this is a struggle for the mind and heart and soul of the American People…this is a struggle for HOPE over fear and despair…of TRUTH over lies and deception….as the President has said so many time….he has Faith in the American People….

the fact that the other side has to use lies…hatred…fear…deception to win over Americans….the fact that they play to WORST in us instead of the BEST in us tell us tale in itself….

So yardarm…NO martyrs…i need an experienced Sailor Man to help us navigate thru the treachorous waters to come…..

Wow. Powerful statement, Yardarm. You are fired up. Nobody blames you for wanting to take a hard stand. You are, are you proclaim, FREE to stand your ground. As are the rest of us, so please keep in mind something you already know: that the insidious hatred and bigotry against “the other tribe” will always be there, but in a civil society, the majority of us won’t stand for it. Those of us still kickin’ who remember the ’40s and ’50s and ’60s and ’70s won’t stand for it. (How foolish we all were, to think we had licked much of it, including the discrimination against women.) And younger generations are less afraid of non-conformity (as we were, back then).

The KKK are just the Neanderthals, barbarians, conquerors, slave traders, Nazis, etc., of old, in disguise. Enslavement of all kinds of different types, physical and mental, will always be around, but when was the last time we saw a real Neanderthal and not just a Neanderthal-in-Name-Only aka the Republican RWNJ tribe? Eff them. Yes, even when we think they’ve all died out, they re-emerge (sometimes morphing into something worse), and good people can’t understand it, but their numbers are still comparatively small. Our biggest aim continues to be to expose them, as you are helping to do. Hate to be fatalistic, but none of this will matter if the Mayans were right, so hold that thought. #PressOn

              *as you proclaim*

By the way, nobody should EVER turn the other cheek again who’s been through that – agree – although we see President Obama doing it every day. He will, however, have his own army of normal, caring, intelligent people (as Sir Paul McCartney said, “billions of us” across the world) who will continue to have his back.

I don’t think “canadabarb4obama” would mind my sharing, since she mentioned on TOD that she’d be on a cruise, that they are just getting underway and she met a couple from TX wearing cowboy hats, talking about bows and arrows, and Barb said to her husband, “We’re staying away from them. yardarm…

              a lil bit from Smartypants….

Settling the question of race must fall on the shoulders of those who have most benefited by racial divisions. It’s called white privilege and if you are white you have enjoyed this privilege whether or not your parents are recent immigrants, held slaves, didn’t hold slaves, ancestors fought for the Union or the Rebels…White privilege belongs only to your race and only your race can call back the privilege by extending it through law, institution and practice to everyone. So far there has been no real effort in that direction. We got law. We understood you cannot legislate feelings. Only behavior.

You just can’t make this stuff up….. http://www.nationalmemo.com/another-reason-mitt-should-run-from-meatloaf-voter-fraud/

The appearance culminated with a nearly retching Mr. Loaf performing “America, The Beautiful” and forcing Mitt Romney to escape to the other side of the stage.
Apparently, Romney is so desperate for some celebrity support that he may be campaigning with a guy who isn’t even legally registered to vote.

Loaf’s real name is Michael Lee Aday. According to The Smoking Gun, Aday may be trying to register to vote in a residence he no longer owns or resides in:

Texas resident Aday is not registered to vote in the red state. On October 23, two days before appearing onstage with Romney, the singer sought a mail-in ballot from California for the November 6 election. Aday remains registered to vote from an L.A. county home he sold in May 2011.

Of course, when it comes to Republican voter registration fraud, this is just small (meatloaf and) potatoes. But it’s a great reminder to publicists of fading stars that Mitt Romney is willing to take anyone right now.

Voting machines tied to the Romneys could decide the election in Ohio

Could a voting machine company with deep financial ties to the Romney family help Republicans steal the presidential election in Ohio?

It could happen. If this year’s presidential election comes down to the electoral votes in Ohio, the deciding votes could be cast on electronic voting machines manufactured by Hart Intercivic.

Tell the Department of Justice: Don’t let Republicans steal the election in Ohio with Romney-owned voting machines.

A 2007 study conducted by Ohio’s Secretary of State showed that Hart Intercivic’s touch screen voting machines could be easily corrupted. The New York Times reported:

At polling stations, teams working on the study were able to pick locks to access memory cards and use hand-held devices to plug false vote counts into machines. At boards of election, they were able to introduce malignant software into servers.1

Good morning TOD! Checking in after several days of being in the Vote Corps in Reno, NV. I’m incredibly impressed with the very young people on the campaign staff. They have to be young to keep these hours, day after day, month after month. And they’re all in such good spirits. We had our orientation, then learned data entry. Thursday I took pictures for a voting early event — bringing several elderly women to vote in a donated RV emblazoned with Obama campaign info and a huge ‘Nosotros decidimos” on the side. Yesterday my husband joined me in canvassing in a WILD area — the largest and, I think, the oldest mobile home community in the country. It was started by people getting away from government, and there were still a few of those. We had a couple of near door slams, and one ferocious “Get off my lawn” type. He was the first person we ran into, so that was a bit daunting. Lots of our list had moved. It’s a very transient community. Some places were too well guarded by dogs to approach. But I had some great talks, mostly with women, who really get it (though did run into one woman who voted for Romney.) Two mothers told me they made sure their kids were registered, too. Lots of people here need help, and they get the message. All Latinos I spoke to were enthusiastic about voting early, and some already had. Ran into an SEIU group canvassing. In all we knocked on nearly 80 doors, and overall it was a wonderful experience. One 92 year old man was so entranced with my husband he gave him a scorpion he’d made out of scrap metal and a horse shoe, so now we have our souvenir of Vote Corps.

Just called my second son in Reno, NV to see if he and his wife had voted yet. They are both voting on Nov 6th and feel very strongly about not voting early. Couldn’t make progress in convincing them to vote early, but know they will let nothing stand in their way of voting for Obama. Seems to me they are too young to be so fixated on voting on the exact date. Weird!

People were great in line where I went too. I went to Germantown because I thought the lines would be shorter than in Rockville ( I live in Bethesda). O’Malley, Cardin, Delaney, Van Hollen were all there this morning. I think the impending weather has people voting early.

I arrived at my Rockville voting place at 10:00AM sharp. Of course there were already at least 120 ahead of me because the line continued outside the building. I was in line for 1.5 hrs and by the time I got out, the line had extended the full length of the block!!

I saw that late last night…there was a hole in my stomach that a Mack truck could have driven through. Our country can not reach its full potential as a nation if we do not get rid of the scourge of racism. We will NEVER be exceptional until all people are equal and free under the law. We have work to do.

I’m home bound waiting for family to arrive. Last night my son called and suggested that we all go early vote together. Then my cousin called and asked if I was early voting today because she wanted to get her mom (who is slightly disabled) to go with us. Once her sister and son heard about it they decided to bring their families and go as well. After two hours of phone calls we now have 22 family members who will be meeting here at my home to all caravan over to the early voting poll to cast our vote for Barack H. Obama and Joseph R. Biden.

It’s turned into a big Re-Election Day celebration here at the donnadem house. 🙂

Y’all my twitter timeline if full of links and pictures of long lines for early voting all over the country. Florida is off the chain but Georgia (not a battleground) and Maryland (blue as can be) is reporting extremely long lines with great turnout today as well. For me this is a sign that our Presidents supporters are extremely excited to vote for President Obama no matter where they live.

Yes, I voted in Montgomery county which went 72% for PBO in 2008. And people were THERE today. Hurricane or no hurricane, folks were making sure they cast their votes!! I was amazed at and moved by the DIVERSITY among the people – Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, young, old, disabled, immigrants, people in wheel chairs, families with young children, families with elderly, young adults, male, female.

Today, my house is a temporary staging area (for dry run only) so there are people phone banking in the (finished) basement and picking up walking packets in the dining room. Mr. G is directing another staging area in the city, which we will both work for the four-day marathon next weekend. Meantime I’m trying to work on more calls. Busy, busy day. It’s odd having people you don’t know flow in and out of your house. But I love the fact that everyone is fired up. My house is in the red area of the county. Next weekend we work in the Dem area of the city. Really wild.

Hello family peeps. A short update on wifey.

They drew her blood at around 8 a.m. to see if the antibiotics are working. Still waiting to hear back on that. Other than that, she’s spent the morning sleeping. I’m having breakfast and taking a shower and then off to the hospital.

It’s great to read all the goodies here. They keep my spirits up. Especially Jovie’s reports from canvassing; FL is going to go blue!

And Jesus, Wayne Rooney is an Obot?! Does this mean I have to stop making fun of the hedgehog on his head? 😦

    Two Young Men…Two different Scenarios

“A little more than twenty years ago my sister was short on money flying to her new life in Norway from Miami Airport. She did not have the extra money they were charging her and didn’t know what to do.She was very distressed until a young man tapped her on the shoulder and gave her the money she needed. She took his name and address and sent him the money she owed him.

Now he is president of the United States. His record is whatt he is running on as proof of what he will do.

A little more than 40 years ago, a young man got a group of his friends together and tackled a kid, held him down, cut off his hair because he was different. His friends have recently stated they felt awful about it for years. This man does not remember if it was because the kid was perceived as being gay or not, He laughed it off when the story came out.

Now he wants to be president of the United States and says his business record is proof of the job he will do.

This job is all about character.

Re-elect President Barack Obama.” Martha Menth Santa Rosa, CA. Printed in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat , Santa Rosa, CA. Thursday June 7, 2012

Thanks for reading. The story as told by Ms. Menth (and verified by the paper and correspondence ffrom Senator Barcak Obama) speaks volumes about the two men opposing each other for the offfice of President of the United States of America, Only one deserves the tile and the job. Barcak Obama
