Guys, help refresh my memory on something: I recall that at the end of [last year, maybe the year before?] that there were bonuses for the GM workers that had been negotiated when the union took significant sanctions in order to save the industry and their jobs. I remember reading that is was a way of giving the regular worker a sense of ownership in the success of the industry.

Does anyone else remember that or am I delusional? Wouldn’t that be a great way of selling PBO’s vision and model for American businesses and manufacturing?

    • October 25, 2012 at 10:45 am

Hey 57andfemale is this what you mean?

“DETROIT — General Motors is likely to spend more than $500 million on employee bonuses and profit-sharing based on the company’s performance last year.

GM, which made a record profit in 2011, will pay bonuses of at least $182 million to white-collar workers such as engineers, car designers and managers on Wednesday, according to a formula obtained by The Associated Press. That’s on top of $332.5 million in profit-sharing it already agreed to pay factory workers…”

At least I’m not delusional (well, at least not about that). I’m at work and can’t do a lot of searching, but I thought for sure it was tied to PBO’s agreement. Thanks.

Yes. You are correct about the worker bonuses.

      • October 25, 2012 at 11:46 am

I work at GM. Every year the company gives bonuses based in company performance. The union workers did receive a higher amount this year because the company profits were higher.

Is it just me or was Paul Ryan a total flop as a VP pick? Wasn’t he supposed to energize the teabaggers and social cons? The only thing I remember from him was the butthurt he got from Biden and that’s pretty much it. As much as I hated Palin, she knew how to attract media attention and was buzzed about ad nauseum….Ryan? Meh. Even Mittens looks more exciting than him lately.

All he did was add to the home states the rethug ticket is gonna lose, LOL! It would be icing on the cake if he loses his House seat, too.

    • October 25, 2012 at 11:32 am

It seems as though I don’t hear much about him lately, since the VP debate. Has he been doing anything? Since I don’t watch regular TV I don’t know if I’m just missing it or if he’s just gone really quiet.

    Deaniac’s comment over @ TPV:

“Of course it is insulting. Here’s the thing: if minorities don’t go to the polls, why are Republicans busy passing laws trying to take away our right to vote? If a media type can answer me that one, I’m all ears.”

My favorite was when she said “Back Off!” after Joe Walsh’s sickening approaches – when he was trying to be overbearing and intimidate her at one of the debates. She needed to remind him she was not “just a woman” he could brush off – she’s a fighter!

            October 25, 2012 at 11:45 am

I think this was the turning point for her: when Walsh tried to make an issue out of her buying a dress for the convention and she said the color she’s worn most is camouflage. She hit her stride and hasn’t looked back, god bless her.

    Dear Mayoress Chips,
How are you today? I just want to thank you a thousand times for posting the full Jay Leno-Pres. O video on the previous thread. I just took the time to watch it in its entirety and totally appreciate you, Mr. Leno and the President. You for providing the whole thing, Mr. Leno for setting such a good tone for the President to speak naturally and in a relaxed manner, and Mr. P because he’s Mr. P. AND because he did such a great job!
    Thanks again,
    The quiet VC

Priceless: the good times President Obama and Vice President Biden are having on the campaign trail talkin’ to We the People.

Good morning, Chips and TODville! Gonna be another fine Obama day!

Too bad he bought and sold W’s bill of goods on WMD in Iraq, the blemish on his career. He might have been a good second-term SOS for President Obama. Still might, but I don’t think he’d be in for a do-over, and nobody needs to be reminded of W (here or abroad).

Since Mitt said it, it is probably a lie. More bullshit to feed the MSM meme of “Mitt’s momentum”. Joy Reid tweeted last night that for PBO to win reelection he will have to fight both the GOP and MSM. Truer words were never spoken. I hope everyone remembers how the MSM is behaving (basically promoting Mitt’s campaign). The Fourth Estate is dead.

lolol I know right jovie? I cracked up when I saw Powell’s endorsement. That tells me more Repubs will vote against Willard regardless of the $111M and I bet 2 donors gave him the bulk of that money.

None for here in red east TN. Only thing was (as I posted on last thread), I was pissed when I got to the location. Doesn’t open until 11:00. I got there at 10:00. A number of people left…….many upset. Someone said “Our tax dollars at work.” Yes, we all should have checked the times but never occurred to any of us that it would open that late. It hasn’t been publicized on the news AT ALL. I was second in line so didn’t take long. The poll workers came out little before 11:00 to put some signs out and apologized for the wait and said, “If you think you all are upset about these hours, ask us. We don’t like it either!”

The president has been briefed on Hurricane Sandy, which forecasters say could threaten the mid-Altantic and Northeast.

“As always FEMA officials are in touch with their local counterparts in anticipation of a storm like this,” press secretary Jay Carney told reporters on Air Force One. “FEMA and their federal partners are prepared to deal with storms like this because of course the hurricane season does not end until Nov 30.

“We encourage citizens living along the eastern seaboard to listen to local officials and monitor weather reports in the days ahead. The president asked his team to continue regular briefings on the storm as it progresses northward.”
