It’s funny, but the Pres is so easy to listen to that whenever he starts to wrap up a speech I always find myself saying/thinking “Already? You’ve shortened it.” Only to see by the actual time that’s it was pretty much in the regular ball park. 😉 😉

I missed everything this morning. Second time in 2 months that someone has gotten a hold of my CC and went on a shopping spree. I have been on the phone with the CC company this morning and am tempted to drive to the last place they tried to use my card. I already had it reported as stolen even though it is in my purse. The locations start 12 miles north of me and go further north from there. While on the phone with my bank the person tried to swipe my card again and it was declined due to my calling the bank. I called the store and they said they did have cameras by the check out counters and if I came in with my ID they would go through the camera footage with me to see who was shopping at 150.00 a pop every time they used it. Tempted do do it…

      October 23, 2012 at 12:02 pm

Why should you go through the camera footage? What then…call the police! Credit card companies investigate, the card has been reported as stolen, was it not? So when that “person” tried to use it does it not pop up as stolen? What is the stores policy for customers with reported stolen cards? Let the guy/gal walk? Did they present a credit card with your information as you had the card in your purse? How can that happen?
This happened to me (someone using my cc # for online purchases and my CC company did the investigation.

      October 23, 2012 at 12:07 pm

DEFINITELY DO IT Proud!! I just got my whole wallet with drivers license stolen a week ago. They charged $5,000 in one hour as I got a fraud alert text from Discover within an hour. I reported it to the police and restaurant management (btw, it was stolen out of my purse hanging on the back of my chair with my coat completing covering the purse while I was sitting in the chair!) The restaurant management ran the security camera tape and saw him on tape doing it. Police now know who it is (and in the big city of Chicago!) and are very happy I want it fully investigated. Even if this guy only gets a few days/hours whatever in jail I want it on his record.

How they did it was he had another girl with him and before they charged the $5,000 they made some hokey ID with their picture but my name and address on it.

Be sure to put a 90 day security freeze with the credit bureau. Call one and they will add it to your report so they don’t try to open new credit. Oftentimes they can open all kinds of new cards – even buy a car opening a car loan.

I’ve spent no less than 8 total hours going through all this with my credit cards, bank, credit bureau, drivers license replacement, etc. So maddening and a bit scary which is further reason I will be calling that detective if he isn’t calling me. (Cops now email too! 🙂 )

Thank you. I will. No, my card is in my wallet. I went online to check my credit card statement to make sure my payment posted. That was when I found all the charges. Capitol One is the one I have. All they are doing is issuing me a new card and account. Stopped all the “posted” payments but I have to call and dispute the “pending” ones when they post. There are charges that amount to several hundred dollars. I asked them how someone could have a card with my number on it. They said they keep trying numbers until one hits. They just change the name on the card.

I just had my credit card # taken about a week and a half ago. My credit card was still in my possession. I think mine was from catalog phone shopping.

I stopped using my credit card online when my email was hacked into and a message went out asking my contacts to send me money as I had been supposedly mugged in London. The scary part is I travel a lot and there were a couple of people that believed it. I couldn’t get back into my email as they changed my email address slightly and put in a new password. They also shut me out of my facebook account. It was quite the mess to straighten out.

My cc was stopped by the card bank and I phoned them and found out there were a few very large phone purchases totaling over $1200. I had just paid my monthly bill the day prior to the charges so I would not have checked my statement for quite awhile. I have gotten my replacement card (about a week later). The fraud department investigates. I sure wish I knew which catalog it is but that might not matter anyhow. I know someone’s daughter that is trying to get off drugs and in a methodone program that was recently hired to be at a desk at a motel at night. She has stolen items to get drugs and I think being around credit cards would not be a good thing. So it could happen from anywhere. I feel your frustration.

Definitely do it. This happened to me a few years ago. They called me down to the police station to view the video footage, but b/c I was did not recognize the person they told me that that there was nothing that they could do. Hopefully, you will get better results.

Hi all, Good Morning from SoCal! I’ve had several problems just like this over the years. It’s a mystery to me how it happens. I’m on a “deal” site a lot and end up spending more than I should. Anyway, I’ve used the suggestion I got from that forum for the CC deal. Discover (and perhaps more – I’ll try to find out) will issue you a one time temp card number called a” virtual CC number” and a lot of the folks there do that for shopping on the net.

And don’t forget, you’re not responsible for more than $50 on any CC. But that’s if you don’t notify the CC company which would seem to be a rare thing to me.

        Good luck!

    That speech was great!
My day is shaping up to be pretty great too.
Pleasantly surprised today when 2 co-workers confirmed they were indeedy voting for PBO next week! One is this young man, who quite frankly is only voting coz we keep pushing him at work. He doesn’t seem to or want to understand any of the issues. His eyes actually glaze over when I go into one of my rants lol But, he’s young, socially liberal and he knows *at least* that Republicans are “scary ” ( his word). The other, I was a bit worried because even though she’s this older African American lady, she’s also Very religious and I know she took PBO stance on gay rights pretty hard. But, looks like she came around and was asking for a ride to the voting place 🙂

Yay, 2 more votes! ( We live in PA)

You might want to explain to this friend about the other side of being pro-choice. The fact that pro-choice advocates aren’t just about abortion rights, but also about making sure that there are sufficient and adequate foster care and adoption programs, neonatal care and early childcare development programs, social support for single parents and food programs for hungry children, access to contraception, working to create education and work opportunities to pull single parents into the middle class and help them provide a safe and healthy environment for their children, if they choose to have them. When you look at the entire picture, there’s more to caring for life than simply depriving women with the options of having an abortion – which is the typical pro-life stance.

She might also be interested in knowing that the rate of abortions has decreased since President Obama came into office. And with better access to contraception and health care, disease and unplanned pregnancies will continue to decline. How can she be against that?

Bob, I know I’ve said it before, but your quick wit and intelligence is truly wonderful! I respect you and everyone on here enormously. And once again, Chips is a treasure for having this place to share our feelings. It’s like a family – rare online for sure.

PBO seriously kicked some butt – although like someone on the tube said if the debate had gone on 30 min longer, Romney would’ve endorsed Obama. Mittens is like jello, try to stick it to the wall. He just desperately wants the job and will do and say anything to try and get it. I don’t think he has any core convictions at all and couldn’t care less about the Middle East, etc.

He just think it’s his turn for some unfathomable reason. Maybe a “live up to Daddy” thing? It still mystifies me why anyone would vote for him. Sadly, I think there are two groups who will – those who would vote for Donald Duck if he was on the ballot as a Repug and the most egregious of all, racism.

      #FORWARD (with our bayonets). 😉

Morning everyone. I will be voting here in Chicago today. Can’t wait. Who do you think I’ll be casting my ballot for? Well, President Obama OF COURSE!!! I don’t follow polls and at this stage they matter very little anyway. But I wanted to share this excellent piece by Jonathan Chait here: http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/10/romney-says-hes-winning-its-a-bluff.html — This is the point that I’ve been trying to make to my friends and family over the past few weeks. Plus knowing staffers at Obama HQ here in Chicago, I am always reminded that this election is about GOTV rather than polls. So I wish you all a spectacular day. Peace to you all.

I was watching with some of my republican friends yesterday. And after the debate 2 women who were undecided moved to lean Obama and the guy went from lean Romney to definitely Obama.

    The reason.

They had thought Romney would be stronger than Obama on foreign policy. That was not the case yesterday. Romney agreed with everything Obama said or has done. The main sticking point for them though, was that Romney changed again and they just gave up on trying to tailor their support to whatever Romney was saying at the moment. Really illuminating night.

Did anyone go from Obama to Romney? I know – shouldn’t need to be asked but then almost half our country seems clueless. I’m beginning to think that party affiliation is as strong as what religion you were born into. Many too lazy to look beyond the curtain.

No, the Obama supports were more upbeat than the Romney guys. The two guys that were still lean Romney were just sort of quiet.

The Obama campaign will not pull resources out of any 2012 battleground states, campaign manager Jim Messina told reporters Tuesday.

On a state-of-the-race conference call, Messina took aim at “rumors” that the Obama team might reduce its presence in states such as North Carolina in order to focus on firewall states in the Midwest and elsewhere.

“We are tied or ahead in every battleground state,” he said, “and we’re not leaving any state where we’re tied or ahead.”

Romney, on the other hand, has already taken “resources out of states like Pennsylvania and Michigan,” Messina said.

The Obama campaign has labored to keep its electoral map as big as possible, and Messina has been on something of a spree since last night to shoot down claims — by Priorities USA strategist Paul Begala, among others — that North Carolina has effectively slipped off the battleground map.

Why did Begala day that? Jerk!

  45. October 23, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Afternooooooon all my O peeps! What a great getting up day again doncha know!!! It’s unseasonably warm here in Chi-town, so I’m going outside to play some more. Actually, raking leaves, pulling weeds, putting away lawn furniture, and battening down the hatches. It hurts so good, especially after a stellar performance by our Prez last night and today.

My political take today is this is going to be a close race, no matter what the polls or pundits say. It’s not hand wringing worthy, but each one of us gotta get busy with the GOTV efforts. Go to the OFA dashboard and find something to do for the cause. Every little bit helps and moves us FORWARD!!!!
