(Messenger/John Halley)

Athens Messenger: Most of the reaction from President Barack Obama’s speech on the College Green Wednesday evening was that it was an inspiration, energizing and positive.

Around 14,000 people packed elbow-to-elbow in the Green while the president stood at his podium at the West Portico of Memorial Auditorium. Reports of a mile-long line to get onto the Green stretched from the corner of Court and President streets, down Richland Avenue, around Walter Hall, up University Terrace and ending on the corner of Park Place near Gordy Hall. The wait for many was worth it.

Did I? Am I? Well, all I know for sure is around 8:30 I thought my head was going to roll off my neck, and had to do an emergency shut down to get onto that long track towards wrapping up the day, then it was bye bye iPad! We are both recharged this morning! 😉

      Hi how are you,

What is this foolishness that I hear about Tagg Romney wanting to take a swing a President Obama? It was all over twitter last night. Is it true?

      • October 18, 2012 at 8:39 am

        • October 18, 2012 at 9:12 am

Has he ever listened to what his father has said about and to the President of the United States? Disrespectful idiot!

        • 11 anniebella
          October 18, 2012 at 9:19 am

Tagg can’t because he isn’t man enough to do, once again it shows that money can’t buy class.

        • 12 vcprezofan2
          October 18, 2012 at 9:38 am

BTW, as Meta shared last night, Tagg Romney is Mitt’s chief strategist. 🙄 I find the second paragraph I shared below quite telling. It makes me ask myself…AGAIN….what’s wrong with Mitt that causes his wife and sons to be so protective? Echoes of that ‘mental well-being’ comment made by AnnD?

If Romney wins the presidency, his five successful, well-educated sons could provide the necessary building blocks for a political dynasty — and no one is more valuable to that future than Tagg, according to advisers, family friends, and campaign insiders. Already, his advice to his father is beginning to supersede what’s coming out of the Boston campaign headquarters — and many believe his influence will only grow going forward.

“He’s very protective of his dad, both behind his back and in front of him,” said one person close to the campaign. “He’s always been sensitive to it, but he’s become very assertive recently in making sure people aren’t doing his father harm, or not living up to their responsibilities to him.”

One adviser added, “If he ever did want to go into politics, he’d make a fabulous candidate.”

More than any of his brothers, Tagg modeled his life after his father’s — and demonstrated a unique willingness to put that life on hold to aide in Mitt’s ascent to power.

No way he’s got a future in politics after threatening and insulting the President of the United States. No way.

              October 18, 2012 at 12:17 pm

Now Theo, this is American politics. I bet you’ll find enough people who would choose Tagg in the future just because of his comment – shows he has cojones, don’t you know?

      • 17 vcprezofan2
        October 18, 2012 at 8:40 am

I’m fine, PFI. Nice to see you in our past shared hunting ground. Tagg made the comment in response to a radio announcer’s question on his feelings during the debate. While I agree it shows disrespect to the President and I’m not surprised by it, I think it shows more of who Tagg is – low class and not fit for the national limelight. Hopefully more voters will see this.

That is shameful it shows money does not buy class. Not only do I want to win this election I want to crush The Romney’s so bad it’s not even funny!

I wasn’t going to sign in until around 10:30 but then decided I really didn’t feel like doing anything strenuous like house cleaning, and since I wasn’t doing anything I thought I might as well see what TODobots were doing. 😆 poor widdle min! I saw a video some time ago talking about a whole lot of gold purchases for an Indian festival but can’t remember if it was for Diwali. It was roughly saying that gold was taken very seriously and a women’s gold jewellery could tell a lot about her, so to speak. Was it related to Diwali, do you think, or is there another festival that emphasizes this aspect? Refresh my memory, please (even though you haven’t a clue what I saw – irrational, I know).

Serious. You should see all the indian newspapers. The first page is no more about news. It’s all full pages ads about someone peddling gold. I have stopped buying newspapers. Enough with the brainwashing as it is.

Hey VC – you must try to get some good sleep. You are always faithfully pounding away here & on your twitter, but soon it will all be rewarded. Pugeretto is a name I just made up, relating to my two 14-yr-old Pugs. They are always close by watching me. Don’t forget to get some rest soon, I know it’s hard with all the excitement, & it seems that if you leave for several hours, it’s like WOW, look at all I missed!! Anyway, that’s me always. My computer doesn’t keep up with those debates/twiiter feeds….but I do the best I can to catch the news. You go girl!

In truth I can’t blame TOD, or Twitter or excitement for my sleeplessness. I haven’t slept through the night in decades and I can’t nap in the day. I wake up every 2/3 hours every single night. It’s just part of the VC packet. So in a sense the advent of TOD in my life is a blessing and the perfect gift from my BFF, Chips Chica. 😉 😉 😆

It was freaking insane this morning.

Damn…..Cher was fired up this morning at the condescending assholes on Morning Joe trying telling Mika that she knows nothing about what women want in the election. Halperin, Willie Geist, and Joe were assholes. They basically did all but pat her on the head and tell her she belongs in the kitchen making dinner. They defended Romney’s comments about women on the show. They apparently got flooded with calls and emails and tweets from women who were ANGRY and then they began to back down. Joe even replied to Cher’s tweets on twitter. Cher was rightfully MAD.

  6. 46 utaustinliberal
    October 18, 2012 at 8:40 am

Mika of Morning Joe grew some spine this morning. I just caught some of her on Morning Joe and the Today Show this morning and she went to toe-to-toe with Joe, Mark Halperin, Willie and Steve Rattner on women’s issues. She kept reeling off accomplishments of the Obama administration in regards to women and the economy. She skewered Romney and his lack of pro-women policies when he was Gov. of MA and now.

I’m glad that the Today Show skyped her and Joe in this morning to a broader audience. She pointed out the bigger picture about Romney’s Binders Full of Women comment and why it’s offensive, she pointed out that under Pres. Obama unemployment has gone down, housing foreclosures are down, housing prices are up, consumer confidence is up, manufacturing has increased, he signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, he created a council on women and girls, she just went on and on and on.

My jaw dropped. She was trending on twitter like fire.

      October 18, 2012 at 8:53 am

Thanks ut – I saw little bit of the ruckus on Twitter and was wondering what it was all about. So Mika finally got tired of being treated like a dumb bimbo on that show. She must have been reading the tweets about her all along! I know she’s not as stupid as she pretends to be. Methinks a lot of reliably Republican-voting women will be re-evaluating their votes for President this year. For e.g., the Huntsman daughters are unabashedly rooting for Obama – despite what claims they may have made earlier this year.

  8. October 18, 2012 at 8:43 am

Morning all. On the day of the presidential debate, I took a bad fall on my back and life has been painful for the last two days. Of course, during the debate itself, I was so enthralled, I didn’t feel any pain at all, which leads me to believe I should just keep watching the debate over and over again until my back heals–it’s better than pills. I am in charge of a staging area on the four days leading to the election and have got to get better by then. Arrgghhh. Oh and positive polls for PBO also improve the pain, so I’m hoping they keep coming, too. Love too all and let’s keep working our hearts out, pains and all.

Back ache is one of the worst injuries because you quickly realize how much you use your back and how debilitated you are when your movements are restricted. 2 things :
    1) Not sure if any of you follow Cher on twitter but she went full- on rant this morning against that chauvinistic crew of Morning Joe, who ridiculed Mika for daring to say that that binder story from the Mittster wasn’t even true. Cher called them out righteously, it was beautiful! They backed off afterwards…

    2) Speaking of binders. Please if you have time to read (And laugh!), this is the actual Amazon customer reviews for their most popular binder ( I swear I haven’t laughed this hard in ages). It restored my faith in the American electorate, people TRULY get it. Women TRULY get it.

If I just may add one thing. I was too upset to comment on Tagg’s tweet last night because I refuse to let anyone steal my joy while we are moving FOWARD. So I am thinking this morning that this 42 year old man probably has so much raged stored up from his father smashing their faces in food as a joke when they were kids, it is probably “his father” he really wants to punch.
Having so much money and looking so scary is scary!
The whole family looks like a horror movie. I read two comments last night that made me laugh describing them as the “The Adams Family and “Sarah Palin’s family with money.

“Think about the rope-a-dope here. It involves the debate timeline. There were 2 weeks between the first debate and the second. But the second and the third are 6 days apart. Obama needed to rattle Romney’s cage on the second debate so he would not have time to recover before being hit again in the third. That’s what’s going on here.”

      October 18, 2012 at 10:22 am

There are times when Romney seems to be a small, sad, fearful child.

    • October 18, 2012 at 11:17 am

It’s Tagg’s expression that worries me. If I didn’t know who these people were and I just looked at this picture cold, I’d think the young man in the picture was the older man’s lover. Just sayin’.

People for the American Way is putting $1.2 million behind two Spanish-language swing state ads, one criticizing Mitt Romney’s position on the DREAM Act (below) and the other featuring Romney’s “47 percent” comments.

As we’ve noted here before, Obama is far ahead with Latino voters, but the stronger his support is among the demographic, the better chance he has of winning key Latino-heavy swing states.

The PFAW ad buy is for five weeks in Ohio, Wisconsin and Virginia, and for three weeks in Nevada.

The important thing in 2 of PBO’s most supportive demographics, latinos and students, is not just to get them to prefer PBO, which they already do, but to get them to the polls. Much as I hate to see fear being used as a motivator, the more they are afraid of what a Romney presidency would mean, the more they are motivated to actually vote.

      • 105 vcprezofan2
        October 18, 2012 at 11:08 am

I think of it more as facts than fear, Japa. I genuinely believe if Mitt gets into office he is going to do what he has said. Nothing he has done or said suggests he wouldn’t. There is no reason why he wouldn’t. He would have the support of the crazies in his cabinet, the crazies on the ground to hold his feet to the first, plus his obligations for the millions KOCH types poured into his campaign. Mitt would also have his natural inclinations and his greed. And let’s not forget he could claim that the voters knew what they were voting for. So instead of thinking of it as using fear, I’d think of it as facilitating their predictive skills. Better they think of these possibilities now while they still may be averted, than wait until they start materializing. They need only look at those GOP governed states to see what has been happening to realize that the predictions are not farfetched.

Even my nut job Republican friend, as the father of two teen-aged daughters, is a tad horrified about Mitt. I think he’ll vote for him but in IL it won’t matter.

  25. October 18, 2012 at 9:29 am

A crowd estimated at more than 150 people stood in line Thursday morning outside the Hal Marshall Annex on the north side of Charlotte’s uptown, waiting to participate in the start of North Carolina’s early voting period.

About 350 sites across the state feature early voting until Nov. 3, and the Hal Marshall Annex was the first to open in Mecklenburg County, at 8 a.m.

Among those who arrived to vote early was a group from Obama for America, which marched from the organization’s Charlotte headquarters on East Ninth Street to vote early. A half-hour after the doors opened, dozens of people were still waiting in line outside the building.

Four years ago, Barack Obama became the first Democratic presidential candidate to carry North Carolina in 32 years. And he won it before Election Day.

Early voters that year gave Obama a 305,000-vote cushion heading into Election Day, helping him squeeze out a narrow 14,000-vote victory in the state.

      L-O-V-E Won the debate!

Good over evil every time. Even after the first debate FLOTUS greeted PBO with love. You can’t fake it, you either you have it or you don’t.
You don’t turn it on and off like a faucet. It flows freely from the Obamas to all of us and to this country. They stayed around and signed programs and greeted people who asked questions and those who did not. They took the time to stay while the “privileged” family scurried out.
What gets me every time is… he asks for our vote, that just tugs at my heart.
After all what he has had to put up with and the disrespect, he still ask.
Okay, I am done. Need more tissues. Have a great day everyone.

This is absolutely true. The fact that Romney is so close in the polls is a reflection on the electorate – not on President Obama. He’s governing to the best of his abilities. 2010 showed us that there is a part of this country that just doesn’t pay attention, and were willing to hand the keys back to a corrupt group of people who are in it for greed and could care less about this country. If the GOP steal this election, it will not be because of President Obama – it will be because half the country didn’t learn the lessons from 2000-2008, and from 2010 to now.

Nothing about PBO…it was about the ACLU and the US Marines…saying that the ACLU was trying to stop the Marines from being able to pray. WTF? That doesn’t even make sense (to a thinking person) on its face! The ACLU is ALL ABOUT religious liberty and freedom to worship as you choose! I hate that she did this….I detest willful ignorance.

I am still reeling over Tagg’s comment about the President! (I don’t even know what he looks like, I don’t pay any attention to his kids) – I hope the media talks about this and asks Willard to apologise or have his son apologise directly to the President. I am sick to death of people getting away with the ‘wagging of the finger’ in his face, calling him a ‘dick’ on Morning Joe and now saying they wanted to ‘rush the stage and take a swing at him’. What disrespectful animals they are! Makes me so furious, I really hope something gets done about this!!!! So bloody mad!! 😡

    • October 18, 2012 at 10:44 am

you have to force the media to cover the tagg statement. email, text, blog, fax, call. they not going to do it on their own. I keep telling people obama is fighting the media not the republican party, the media is the republican party. You have to push the media to tell the truth,

The fact checkers are all over the Libya statement by PBO and are trying to say ‘half-true’ while Washington Post is being their usual idiot selves. I dislike fact checkers because they often use the both are equally dishonest false-equalivancy and cherry pick their findings to give them away to empower this narrative.

I am definitely writing politifact. I just read their explanation and it is the most stupidest thing I have ever seen

They evaluate the statement Romney made, where he specifically singles out the president ( not his administration as a whole, but the singular president) and says you did not call the Libya an act of terror. Politifact looks at the statement and said no Obama did say that the next day. However, they continue, noting that the administration was not completely clear on whether this was an act of terror or an uprising the days following. And thus a rating of half true is rendered.

What kind of nonsensical reasoning is that? Either Obama called it an act of terror the next day like he says he did or he did not. It is immaterial what his administration says afterwards because the event has either taken place (him calling an act of terror) or it has not.
