I am definitely writing politifact. I just read their explanation and it is the most stupidest thing I have ever seen

They evaluate the statement Romney made, where he specifically singles out the president ( not his administration as a whole, but the singular president) and says you did not call the Libya an act of terror. Politifact looks at the statement and said no Obama did say that the next day. However, they continue, noting that the administration was not completely clear on whether this was an act of terror or an uprising the days following. And thus a rating of half true is rendered.

What kind of nonsensical reasoning is that? Either Obama called it an act of terror the next day like he says he did or he did not. It is immaterial what his administration says afterwards because the event has either taken place (him calling an act of terror) or it has not. Please people write or tweet them. They are human and not infallible and in this case they are in the wrong. They should know it!

This is why Rachel abhors them. They now have obliterated the meaning of “facts”, and should remove all reference of the same from their name.

I know! I am fuming. It is the most egregious ruling I have ever seen. Nonsensical, and bordering on partisan in the way it makes conclusions from evidence that contradict that conclusion.

Doesn’t matter. About 60 million people already saw the takedown on TV. Politifact can try to parse all they want but that won’t erase the impression of what people saw then.
Just like a lie can travel around the world before the truth puts it’s shoes on, what happened happened. It’s in our memories.
Not saying Obama lied or anything, just making the point that that same idea can apply.
For those that would recheck the facts, they would see Obama said “acts of terror” in the Rose Garden.
          Fuck you, “Politifact”.

    • October 18, 2012 at 11:34 am

Fact checkers are now lobbied and are somewhat partisan.
Half trues and 1-4 pinnochios are parsing facts.

This is a damn shame. All of my old, reliable, political stand-bys, have gone to the dogs. If it’s not Gallop polling the President 80 + times, It’s Politifact parsing words, and trying to cast doubt on the truth, or it’s the big 3 news networks turning RW talking points from Drudge, and Glen Beck into serious news stories. These people are insulting our intelligence by telling, us not to believe or our own eyes or ears. I think after this election the Dems mistrust of the media will be even greater than that of the Repubs. I don’t trust any of them, I’m done with them.

Republicans have perfected the art of working the ref. They aggressively lobby and intimidate any neutral party. I even hear PBS pulling it’s punches in some of their news analysis. Many of us complain about the media we have, but this is today’s playing field. We’ve to fight in it. We’ve to learn to work the refs even better, that’s all.

        • 32 EricFive
          October 18, 2012 at 1:37 pm

Corporate interests own our media. The GOP’s policies favor the corporate elite. The corporate owned media reflects and seeks to protect the interests of its corporate masters. Not too hard to understand, imho. No amount of democrats “working the refs” will effect this reality (i.e., no amount of “working the refs” will get the MSM in all of its manifestations to forget who signs its paychecks). Democrats have a very unhealthly tendency to blame themselves no matter how obvious it is that the game is fixed. How much more evidence of this reality do we need to see? Mitt has lead the most dishonest campaign I have ever witnessed. What is/was the response of the MSM to this dishonesty? The response was a very public stance that facts don’t matter. We had fact checker from the Washington Post going on record saying he will not fact check Mitt. This is some truly outrageous stuff. The MSM has been and continues to prop up Mitt and not hold the GOP responsible for its obstruction. MSM ratings and readership are all down, so what we are witnessing is not base on some “horse race” related revenues chase. The corporate elite use the media it owns and controls to get its message out to the public in the most positive light. In other words, instead of “news” and fact base analysis, we get PROPAGANDA. We would be wise to lay the blame where it belongs, instead of blaming the victim of a fucked up situation.

    Something for reading later:

Is this true? Have any Romneys bought into the voting machine business? I read the first half then gave up as I want to be seated for the first part of Pres O’s speech. Tell me what you think…AFTER.
‘Late last month, Gerry Bello and Bob Fitrakis at FreePress.org broke the story of the Mitt Romney/Bain Capital investment team involved in H.I.G. Capital which, in July of 2011, completed a “strategic investment” to take over a fair share of the Austin-based e-voting machine company Hart Intercivic.

“Several tanker trucks full of political ink have been spilled on Mitt Romney’s tenure as a vulture capitalist at Bain Capital,” Bello and Fitrakis wrote. “A more important story, however, is the fact that Bain alumni, now raising big money as Romney bundlers are also in the electronic voting machine business. This appears to be a repeat of the infamous former CEO of Diebold Wally O’Dell, who raised money for Bush while his company supplied voting machines and election management software in the 2004 election

Thank you for forwarding it when you first came across it, Amk. These stories never cease to amaze me because they occur in a country that’s supposed to have the democratic process down pat. The fact that Bush and others could cheat and succeed still sets me back a step or two. The fact that there is evidence such as this that the voting process needs to be re-evaluated and yet political chicanery persists leaves me stuttering. It makes little sense to me that this sort of thing can succeed in AMERICA! It’s information such as this that gives me pause when Willard, or Scott Walker, or Paul Ryan or whichever Repub confidently says ‘we are winning’.

North Carolina Obama campaign spokesman Cameron French said the campaign is “very confident in our ability to turn out voters in the early vote time period” given the four years the organization has been working in the state.

That organization includes 54 campaign offices, including the one in Fuquay-Varina.

A wall calendar in the basement had Thursday’s date highlighted with green marker. Volunteers sat at a folding table and called supporters to remind them of early voting. Retired government employee John Partridge, of Holly Springs, is volunteering for the first time because he said Obama needs four more years in office to straighten out long-term problems that couldn’t be fixed in one term.

“If the people don’t get out to vote, then we’re liable to be in that ditch again, and this time we will be covered with dirt,” he said.

State elections director Gary Bartlett said he believes the in-person early vote will meet or exceed 2008 totals. Bitzer predicts two-thirds of the ballots could be cast before Election Day. There are now nearly 6.6 million registered voters, 300,000 more compared to November 2008.

“There are going to be long lines at early voting sites and long lines on Election Day,” he said.

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Suspected U.S. drone strikes killed at least seven al-Qaida-linked militants in southern Yemen on Thursday, Yemeni security officials and witnesses said.

The officials say at least three strikes targeted a gathering of militants at a farm outside the town of Jaar, a one-time al-Qaida stronghold.

The officials say the attacks followed tips of an imminent al-Qaida attack on the town.

Resident of the area who came to the site after the attack said they saw vehicles burning, as thick black smoke billowed into the sky and explosions rocked the areas. They declined to be identified, fearing reprisals. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Government forces deployed to the area and the number of the dead could rise since body parts were found but not counted, the officials said.

The strikes come one day after Yemen’s Defense Minister Gen. Mohammed Nasser Ahmed’s visited Jaar and vowed to hunt down al-Qaida militants in their hideouts.

A U.S.-backed Yemeni military offensive in June pushed out al-Qaida from many southern areas the militants seized during last year’s uprising. Washington considers the terror network’s Yemen branch, al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, to be its most dangerous offshoot.

Since the offensive drove them from the towns, militants have sought refuge in nearby mountain areas and retaliated with assassinations of top security and military officials as well as deadly suicide bombings.

Security officials said they believe the movement has a hit list of officials, and wants to paralyze the new government that came to power this year as a result of 2011’s popular uprising.

  32. October 18, 2012 at 12:08 pm

    EdwinaNJ, UTAustinLiberal, fellow TODers.

    One comment on Tagg. #Jackass.

Edwina is completely right that Tagg chooses now to want to punch someone for TELLING THE TRUTH about #LyingBully Mitt. Journo twitterers said after the 2nd debate that R-money looked “presidential,’ which was enough to “win.” WTF? Telling POTUS that he’ll get his turn? His creepy stealthy walk toward questioners? And they’re mouthpieces for every damn talking point that R-money spews forth. And yet Tagg and Josh get off scot-free calling POTUS a child and someone they’d like to hit? Very presidential behavior all the jackass R-money family. Makes me sick.

    And here’s something else:
“Romney has done a good job of concealing, until now, the fact that he and his wife, Ann, personally gained at least $15.3 million from the bailout—and a few of Romney’s most important Wall Street donors made more than $4 billion.”

That family is nothing but sleeze. (This is the first time I’ve expressed an opinion about a candidate’s family, because I think even politicians are due some personal privacy. But that entire family is bullying and trying to hoodwink Americans. Their values are NOT American values.

  33. October 18, 2012 at 12:09 pm

How dee do O O O O’s!!!! A great getting up day in TODville again! #2 is visiting her alma mater in DC for their homecoming week-end and just texted me that she will have an opportunity to see PBO tomorrow. She didn’t give any other details. I didn’t know he had anything scheduled for Friday, but I’ve been away from TOD for a few days. Is there a rally in DC or does she have wrong information?

My political take today is that this race was always going to be close. We had some pretty good poll results previously that may have given us a false sense of security. We touted them as good for us and taunted Repubs who complained that the polls were rigged. Then the same polls changed and suddenly the polls can’t be trusted. I’ve always said that the polls should mean nothing whether ahead or behind because it’s the GOTV that counts. PBO has a great ground game and that’s how he’ll win this, not by any other measure. So let’s stay on point and get this done. Let’s stay up and encouraging to each other. Let’s do this thing.

    • 98 EricFive
      October 18, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Those same polls changed b/c they switched to “likely voter” screens which unrealistically favor the GOP (this is not a midterm election). In addition, since facts and truth don’t matter to our MSM, shady GOP-sponsored polls are given equal weight to more unbiased pollsters (polls showing Mitt winning the AA vote are treated as serious and valid, for example). PBO is winning. That is why USA Today was forced to severely oversample the south in its poll to CREATE the impression that Mitt is surging . We should continue to work hard, donate time and money and most importantly vote, but please don’t fall for the propaganda the MSM/GOP is feeding us. If the race was really so close, the MSM would not be forced to work so hard and employ such shady and corrupt tactics to create the impression of a close race. No one said it would be easy, but buying into the propaganda makes our mission that much more difficult, imho.

      • October 18, 2012 at 2:47 pm

My point is that polls shouldn’t be given the amount of time and energy no matter the results. We need to keep the ground game going. PBO always said GOTV as if we’re 20 points behind. If the polls are so rigged, then don’t post them or refer to them when they are in our favor. I didn’t hear any of this fervor when the polls had PBO so unrealistically ahead not that long ago. I don’t know why folks on this site who know the MSM and how they report their findings continue to get all bent out of shape when they hear the MSM slant, then publish it word for word in shock and awe as if it means something to the readers here. I say we do us, let them do them. We GOTV period, the rest is fodder.

I think they dug in Romney’s returns also. My problem is that they did not think about digging in PBO’s returns again until Robney mentioned PBO’s investments. They always follow the GOP talking points.

Well, they’ll be in for a reckoning when PBO wins with huge female and minority turn out. Memo to Gallup: just because you ignore us, doesn’t mean we don’t exist.

This is just peeps don’t freak out over gallup poll today. The entire top establishment from the msm, to pollsters to big money interest is desperately propping up the bot hoping that he would somehow win. Let’s not let it happen.

Propaganda pure and simple. This is no accident. They are tailoring their polling to paint a more positive picture for Mitt. I don’t know if they are doing this to effect reality, by demoralizing democrats, or to make the theft of the election through fraud not seem so suspicious. Once again, always check the crosstabs of these polls. THe MSM and pollsters have an agenda

It’s funny in the Gallup poll the only reason Romney is polling so well is because of the south. When it comes to any other part of the state Romney is losing against the president.

Gallup is using deceptive tactics in their polling data and the media will not DARE call their idol out.

So Gallup is officially a joke today. Obama is at 50% in approval rating, yet losing by five points to Romney in their LV model. And yet PBO is up in most of the battleground states. Ridiculous.

as I said he’s up on every level EXCEPT the South where he’s losing against Romney by over 60 percentage points. The problem with this is that PBO doesn’t need the South to win, at all. Gallup is considerably biased and on election day when PBO wins will be called out as one of the least accurate polls next to Rasmussen reports.

Now why didn’t I think of that?

This was one of the sweetest moments of Pres. Obama’s rally in Manchester, New Hampshire.
