Any info out there on the number of ppl that watched the debate? At the first debate, it seems like the number was released much sooner. Thanks.

Just heard this on TV: The woman at the debate who asked Romney how different he was/would be from Bush in his policies, said Romney evaded her question and did not do a good job answering her. She said she paid attention to both candidates and is now firmly an Obama voter. She said she will be casting her vote for 4 more years of Pres. Obama.

Pres. Obama is full of WIN.

I love it how the GOP shills are latching on to the Gallup tracking as if it’s accurate. “No one who’s broken 50% has ever lost.” Of course, the only reason Mitt broke 50% is because of the South; he’s losing everywhere else. As I tweeted: laughable.

    • 10 EricFive
      October 17, 2012 at 3:38 pm

That poll is propaganda designed to feed this phony meme of Mitt’s surge. The laughable crosstabs should be proof of two things: PBO is winning (why else would there be this need to overweigh the South in this poll by such an outrageous amount) and our MSM, including some once reputable pollsters, are the comminucations arm of the GOP. Reality is not going their/Mitt’s way, so they CREATE polling numbers more favorable to Mitt. They do this to keep republicans “enthused”, to demoralize democrats and create the false impression of a close race. Any MSM personality that cites this poll as if it is valid SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED, now or in the future.

      • October 17, 2012 at 3:45 pm

Shitty polls out today. Don’t think it’s going to be a blowout for the President, probably 51-49, as it stands now.

I have said this before, I am dam tired of polls. Every five seconds there is some kind of new poll someone is talking about. Enough please. Let’s get our butts out there to vote for this President.

That’s also not true. Dewey was leading by a lot according to Gallup and he lost.

Is it just me but the volume on the Iowa video at the top is really low. I’ve put my headphones on and can barely hear PBO.

I don’t like this article. I think there is a lot of assuming here. I don’t believe Obama is conceding Virginia and Florida. I just don’t.

      • 19 carolyn
        October 17, 2012 at 5:08 pm

He’s not conceding either state. I read last night that Rahm is going to Florida…..big influence with the Jewish community. Other plans for Virginia. He won’t neglect ignoring. It’s close to DC…easy to get to. ‘re the polls, Gallup is highly unreliable due to methods send population. The campaign internal polls are what they’re tracking. Think back 4 years ago. I firmly believe Mitt has peaked. The more that debate performance sinks in, the lower he will go.

    http://techland.time.com/2012/10/17/who-won-the-debate-obama-or-romney-xbox-live-says/

“Obama carried this 2nd presidential debate with the “Xbox Undecided/Swing Voters” — respondents who identified themselves as undecided or leaning toward one candidate or the other, prior to the debate.
The percentile breakdown: 51% of undecideds said Obama won, 17% said it was Romney and 32% of undecideds were — wait for it — “undecided.”

    • October 17, 2012 at 3:44 pm

And does this mean they will vote for the person who “won”?

    • 24 Joy
      October 17, 2012 at 3:44 pm

51% finally got their head out of their ass but 32% undecideds are still undecided. There is no hope for these people who tend to turn away from the facts out there on both candidates. I want to grab them by the neck and say…listen, learn, watch or read something for heavens sakes…educate yourselves dammit!

I love it! Good for the first lady, she has had about enough of the Mitt lies and cheered her husband…every woman has a breaking point 🙂

    • October 17, 2012 at 3:51 pm

And the conservative tweeters are latching onto the latest GALLUP tracking as if to a life preserver.

      • 29 Jeff
        October 17, 2012 at 4:21 pm

it’s not, the poll was taken yesterday and most of the polls we are seeing right now were all taken BEFORE the debate.

          October 17, 2012 at 5:25 pm

Liberal Librarian, you know why they are doing that because Romney got his butt kick so bad in last night debate. So they are trying to fine something to hold onto.

      October 17, 2012 at 4:36 pm

The First Lady clap during the debate, really who would get upset with a wife supporting her husband. Only a bunch of racists sickos like the conservatives.

Financial prediction markets even more bullish on PBO after debate:
PredictWise- aggregate of markets has PBO at 67.5 %- Romney at 32.%
In other words, the money is on President Obama. Smart bettors!

      Not true, way lower-

Presidential debate ratings: 37.4 million saw Obama …
      Newsday‎ – 1 hour ago
Tuesday night’s debate between President Barack Obama and … NBC led the broadcasters, according to preliminary Nielsen data Wednesday from the networks.

Marvelous news, 57! I’m pleased the second debate covered so much more ground.

And thus far it is 2-1 for female moderators over old, white male ones…..

I expect Bob Schieffer to be a pain in our ass next week. We must be ‘fair’ to the unengaged idiot who knows nothing about foreign policy except what Dan Senor and Bolton tell him.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if Bob Schieffer actually held DimMitt to the high standard that a Presidential candidate should be held to, regarding foreign policy?

We can dream but I’m not hopeful. Schieffer is a lot like Chris Matthews: they abdicate their journalistic responsibility during their shows and then do a great closing of their shows.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday arrested a person suspected of plotting to explode a bomb in New York, a source familiar with the situation said.

The person was arrested in lower Manhattan on Wednesday morning on terrorism charges, a person familiar with the matter said. The person asked not to be identified because the case was not public.

The public was never in danger, the source said.

The New York Post and the local NBC television affiliate reported the target was the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which is located in lower Manhattan’s financial district.

Spokesmen for the FBI and the Federal Reserve could not immediately be reached for comment.

    http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/10/home-construction-at-4-year-high-foreclosure-at-5-year-low.html

While Romney continues to run on the idea that the economy has gotten worse over the past four years, that simply isn’t reflected by the record as it stands.

Unemployment has fallen to 7.8 percent from a high of 10 percent, consumer confidence is at a five year high, consumer spending is up, holiday hiring is projected to reach record levels, jobless claims are at a four year low, the deficit is at its lowest level in four years, and U.S. debt is at its lowest level since 2006.

I’m delurking after many years for two reasons: First, to thank Chips for providing an oasis of positive, important news and photos, all of which keep me going and bring me sanity during these stressful times.

Second, I have tickets to see the President tomorrow in NH and I’m so excited! I was hoping you seasoned speech-goers could give me some tips. I’m sure it’ll be a long day, but well worth it. I know I’ll hardly be able to sleep tonight! Thank you, kind folks.

    More Watched Second Debate

Hollywood Reporter: “Early ratings for cable network coverage of Tuesday’s presidential debate have numbers surging ahead of the first showdown between President Obama and Mitt Romney earlier this month…”

“Nielsen figures have FNC’s telecast of the town hall debate matching its highest ratings ever (Sarah Palin and Joe Biden’s 2008 vice presidential debate) with 11.1 million viewers. On par with that record, FNC also scored a demo win with 3.46 million adults 25-54. Though its returns are shy of broadcast competition in NBC and ABC, it also topped CBS.”

Chips, just back from all day working in front of a group and no TOD time so belated thanks for using the photo I sent. Hope you (and all TODers) liked it. (see top Rise and Shine photo)

Still giddy over last night. Was able to educate several women about Robme’s lies, flip flopping and condescension about women. Glad Dudette also noticed the hypocrisy of Robme touting his Affirmative Action efforts – since the Repugs loathe it. Hope that turns some of them off from voting.

    enJOY the evening, all.
