I posted in the last thread, but the info was off a bit. Here’s the correct info:

TPM reporting it was slightly less. Still a lot of people watched the debate which is nothing but good news for Obama.

What this election has revealed is that James Lipton of Inside the Actor’s Studio is a HUGE fan and admirer of Pres. Obama. He respects the person that is Barack Obama and that was very clear in this hardball segment. When the video is uploaded, people should watch. It was very enlightening.

OMG I hadn’t seen it from that angle. Mitt’s a douche and looked like a fool but I could not take my eyes of Pres. Obama. He was like dude, keep talking. And when he had Romney right where he wanted, he yanked the chain. “Get the transcript”. Candy affirmed what he said was true and Obama was like “I can’t believe I have to even address this stupid bullshit. The look on his face was PRICELESS

I said it before, I’ll say it again: This was THE moment of the debate. Mit. got. pwned.

    • October 17, 2012 at 7:27 pm

Maybe if Willard hadn’t been so busy licking his chops to get on TV and make a fool of himself, he could have taken the time to actually listen to what the President of the United States of America had to say in the Rose Garden following the attack. Makes Willard look very uninformed and foolish to be saying otherwise. He wanted to get it on the record? Excuse me? That whole exchange was a brilliant example of cognitive dissonance in action. Willard simply could not believe what he was hearing. I would bet you anything that today he still thinks the President did not call it an act of terror.

      • 58 EricFive
        October 17, 2012 at 7:57 pm

I think Mitt knew he was lying. He was surprised that the moderator fact checked him. The MSM has been very up front about its refusal to point out Mitt’s lies. Mitt grew accustomed to lying with impunity, however, on this night Candy (probably tired of the abuse & disrespect she received from Mitt throughout the debate) had the nerve to call him out on one of his lies. No doubt she will pay a price for daring to have a shred of integrity (how dare she inform the public of Mitt’s lies). The fact that her pointing out Mitt’s lie is a controversy clearly illustrates how close this country is to becoming a corporate police state, where facts and truth telling are scorned and derided. Where the presidency should be awarded to the most skillful liar.

Though I will say she seemed awful apologetic in correcting Mitt. Like a servant that dropped the dish because the employer bumped into her. Candy came off like it was her fault Mitt was wrong.
I don’t know what it is about Mitt that has these journalists cowering. He’s an asshole but they don’t have to take that shit.

            October 17, 2012 at 8:16 pm

These media personalities are probably under pressure from their bosses to prop up Mitt. Mitt straight up told Jim Leher that he was going to fire him. She did seem really hesistant to correct Mitt. In an ideal world, she would be celebrated for standing up to the lying bully. I’m no fan of Candy, but she did the right thing last night.

Exactly. Mitt came off as being incredibly clueless, something we do not need in a president. All he had to do was read Obama’s statement to know the right wing talking point was bullshit. Instead he did what he always does; follow the uninformed Fox crowd and mindlessly parrot what they say. The guy is too knee jerk for me

This is unbelievable and beyond ugly——threats on their votes!

it’s not a coincidence that the GOP are instructing employers to do this. It’s another coordinated attack, and a form of voter suppression. And it’s effective. People will feel unprotected – they have to pay their mortgage. These GOP are very effective at destroying every trusted American institution – including the very foundation of democracy. They can’t win on merit – so they cheat.

      • 134 dotster3
        October 17, 2012 at 7:50 pm

It seems to me something should be done about this—–it is clearly voter suppression, an attempt to take away personal choice through threats. They are trying to remove individual freedom from the voting process——-freedom!—-which the right loves to cite all the time.

There were many great smack down moments in the debate last night but one that’s getting no notice anywhere and that I find speaks volumes on PBO’s teams competence and foresight is: when did they give Crowley that transcript of PBO’s Rose Garden comments?

This team came prepared! They pegged Robme and anticipated -nay, they knew!- he would pull that lie out of his arse and they were ready. I mean they made Crowley read the damn thing.

“Proceed Govenor!” And after PBO didn’t react the way Robme was expecting, you could see a moment of recognition on Romney’s face. He didn’t know what was coming but he saw the open jaws of the trap and had nowhere to go but take that step inside.

So yeah, whose idea was it to have that transcript on the moderator’s desk? That was up there with having the extra helicopter in the BinLaden raid. Brilliant and kudos to the great mind who foresaw what was to be. 😆

She had interviewed Axelrod or one of the other advisers on State of the Union the following Sunday and this topic was stressed.

    • 145 tamia
      October 17, 2012 at 8:25 pm

Lol. But I don’t think when the President said to read the transcript he meant right then and there. His point was that there was an official record of what he said. And I don’t think the moderator had an actual copy of the transcript; she was just well informed. Fox News already attacking her for saying the sky is blue so we wouldn’t want to add to conspiracy theories that she had any special information from the Obama campaign before the debate. I think she and the President were both confident that he did call it an “act of terror” because the no act of terror will shake the resolve of this great nation was a moving and memorable line from the President’s Rose Garden statement. Perhaps Willard Mittens RMoney would have remembered it too if he had taken the time to listen to the President’s statement that morning instead of rushing out before him to politicize the deaths.

    • October 17, 2012 at 8:47 pm

Where are you seeing that she had the transcripts? Crowley was on The View this morning and said that no one gave her anything and she did not have anyone in her ear with the stats. She said her intent was to move Mitt along so they wouldn’t get hung up on the ‘did not’ ‘did too’ stuff on the word terrorist. This is why she also conceded to Mitt that it was 2 weeks before everything came to light after investigations went further. She said that in the moment, she didn’t see it as fact checking, only that she remembered PBO being in the Rose Garden and the speech he gave at the time. The RWNJ are crucifying her and had always thought of her as a ringer when she announced as a moderator.

      • 147 LunarSea
        October 17, 2012 at 10:57 pm

Sorry for the late response. Was going through all I missed in previous threads today.

In answer: When Robme is starting his line of doubt at the president saying ‘terror’ -after the ‘Proceed Gov” retort, PBO looks at Crowley, slightly raises his hand toward her and says “get the transcript” that’s when she awkwardly confirms that he did. (see video clip above) She also shuffles some papers. I don’t know what those paper were. But it is undeniable that he says that to her.

Did she have the transcript with her? Did they make sure and point it out to her before hand? Don’t know, but they made sure she knew about it so she had to agree.

You know Bob, the only way Romney and his fellow corporatists are able to get away with this BS is through relentless propaganda and mis-information dished out by Right wing Talk Radio, FOX News, and, increasingly, by the so called mainstream media. Educated employees would not pay attention to what their employers urged them to do when it comes to casting a secret ballot. What I am saying is that there is no way my employer can intimidate me in casting a vote for a candidate that is not of my own choosing. My employ cannot use a threat of me loosing a job because he/she has no way of knowing how I cast my secret ballot. That’s the beauty of a secret ballot. Obviously, employers do influence employees if the employers’ propaganda is repeatedly being spewed by the media and thus taken seriously as TRUTH. Knowledgeable employees will not buy into the BS that any business owner would be so stupid to fire employees, and loose money, just because President Obama was re-elected. Republicans are now focused on promoting fear and misinformation as the key to winning elections.

    http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/10/17/1035571/why-romney-is-against-equal-pay-for-women-in-one-picture/

The truth, however, is that we do not have to wonder about what Romney’s view on equal pay for women is. We do not even have to wait for his campaign to reveal Romney’s unspoken view on this issue, because the question can be answered in just one picture. This one:

That’s Justice Samuel Alito, the author of the Ledbetter opinion stripping many women of their right to equal pay for equal work. When asked how he would select his Supreme Court appointments if elected president, Romney named Alito, along with Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Scalia and Thomas, as his models. All four of Romney’s model justices voted against Lilly Ledbetter and against equal pay for women.

Romney’s promise to place more Alitos on the Supreme Court matters much more than his claim that he is not currently interested in enacting anti-woman legislation. Indeed, it would matter even more than if Romney affirmatively promised to sign pro-woman legislation if elected president. Here is why:

    • 171 theo67
      October 17, 2012 at 8:06 pm

This is scary. This Supreme Court is out of control – and it’s the most important reason to vote Democrat for the next 50 years.

    From Lynn Sweet:

Obama election night: McCormick Place in Chicago
By Lynn Sweet on October 17, 2012 5:03 PM | No Comments
WASHINGTON–President Barack Obama’s election night event in Chicago will be at McCormick Place, I’ve been told. The rally will be indoors and will not be designed to try to recreate the massive Grant Park gathering that marked Obama’s 2008 election. I reported Oct. 3 Obama will be in Chicago election night. On Wednesday, the location was confirmed.

The event will be indoors, with the Obama team not wanting to take a chance on the November weather–which was gorgeous on the evening of 2008 when Obama was elected the 44th president of the United States. The 2012 Obama election night planners see the 2008 Grant Park event as unique in the history of the city and nation.

In 2008, Obama and wife Michelle voted at their South Side polling place–the Beulah Shoesmith Elementary School. Obama then flew to Indianapolis to work a phone bank, played basketball with pals, stopped home and then headed to the Hyatt on Wacker to watch the returns before hitting Grant Park.

In 2012, Obama will have voted already on election day–he is returning to Chicago on Oct. 25 to cast an early ballot. It’s a good bet he then will do election day get-out-the vote work in a battleground state.

The massive lakefront McCormick Place complex hosted the Chicago NATO summit in May. It is a central location, near public transportation with plenty of parking and close to downtown hotels.

For small Iowa town, Obama visit creates big buzz

// MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (AP) — Retired Iowa lawmaker Ro Foege watched in awe Wednesday as thousands of Barack Obama supporters, college students and voters of all ages waited outside a gymnasium for the president’s arrival.

Foege has lived in Mount Vernon for more than three decades, but he said the town of 4,500 outside Cedar Rapids had never seen anything like the scene at a Cornell College gymnasium where the president was to speak. Students camped out overnight and made T-shirts commemorating the visit, the first by a sitting president in the school’s 159-year history, a college spokesman said.

“I can’t remember anything bigger or more important for Mount Vernon,” said Foege, a Democrat who retired from the Iowa House in 2008. “There’s a lot of excitement and a lot of enthusiasm, and it’s not just college students. It’s a nice variety of people coming to our little town.” //
