Too funny LL, we had some really fuddy duddy’s in my day. Wished we had a few like, I might have spent more time there lurking. 🙂 Good post at TPV. (((((hugs)))))
Thanks for sharing these outrageously funny and creative rifs on Mitt’s cave man comment (which it turns out was not completely true). I laughed so hard that it brought on a coughing fit.
I see Condi Rice is campaigning with Paul Ryan in Oh. today—–which I thought was interesting and obvious. Visited the Cleveland Browns training facility, had photos taken with players.
They don’t want to be reminding people of Dubya. Condi is the only member of that administration who is (1) willing to appear in public with R or R and (2) doesn’t have outstanding warrants. (Though she deserves it.)
Condi is the only member of that administration who is (1) willing to appear in public with R or R and (2) doesn’t have outstanding warrants. (Though she deserves it.)
What this election has revealed is that James Lipton of Inside the Actor’s Studio is a HUGE fan and admirer of Pres. Obama. He respects the person that is Barack Obama and that was very clear in this hardball segment. When the video is uploaded, people should watch. It was very enlightening.
James Lipton: "It's very hard to read that man [Romney]. I'd like to read his tax returns." #Hardball
OMG I hadn’t seen it from that angle. Mitt’s a douche and looked like a fool but I could not take my eyes of Pres. Obama. He was like dude, keep talking. And when he had Romney right where he wanted, he yanked the chain. “Get the transcript”. Candy affirmed what he said was true and Obama was like “I can’t believe I have to even address this stupid bullshit. The look on his face was PRICELESS
I said it before, I’ll say it again: This was THE moment of the debate. Mit. got. pwned.
Maybe if Willard hadn’t been so busy licking his chops to get on TV and make a fool of himself, he could have taken the time to actually listen to what the President of the United States of America had to say in the Rose Garden following the attack. Makes Willard look very uninformed and foolish to be saying otherwise. He wanted to get it on the record? Excuse me? That whole exchange was a brilliant example of cognitive dissonance in action. Willard simply could not believe what he was hearing. I would bet you anything that today he still thinks the President did not call it an act of terror.
I think Mitt knew he was lying. He was surprised that the moderator fact checked him. The MSM has been very up front about its refusal to point out Mitt’s lies. Mitt grew accustomed to lying with impunity, however, on this night Candy (probably tired of the abuse & disrespect she received from Mitt throughout the debate) had the nerve to call him out on one of his lies. No doubt she will pay a price for daring to have a shred of integrity (how dare she inform the public of Mitt’s lies). The fact that her pointing out Mitt’s lie is a controversy clearly illustrates how close this country is to becoming a corporate police state, where facts and truth telling are scorned and derided. Where the presidency should be awarded to the most skillful liar.
Though I will say she seemed awful apologetic in correcting Mitt. Like a servant that dropped the dish because the employer bumped into her. Candy came off like it was her fault Mitt was wrong.
I don’t know what it is about Mitt that has these journalists cowering. He’s an asshole but they don’t have to take that shit.
These media personalities are probably under pressure from their bosses to prop up Mitt. Mitt straight up told Jim Leher that he was going to fire him. She did seem really hesistant to correct Mitt. In an ideal world, she would be celebrated for standing up to the lying bully. I’m no fan of Candy, but she did the right thing last night.
Maybe if Willard hadn’t been so busy licking his chops to get on TV and make a fool of himself, he could have taken the time to actually listen to what the President of the United States of America had to say in the Rose Garden following the attack. Makes Willard look very uninformed and foolish to be saying otherwise.
Exactly. Mitt came off as being incredibly clueless, something we do not need in a president. All he had to do was read Obama’s statement to know the right wing talking point was bullshit. Instead he did what he always does; follow the uninformed Fox crowd and mindlessly parrot what they say. The guy is too knee jerk for me

In the June call, Romney went on to reassure his audience that it is perfectly legal for them to talk to their employees about how to vote:
‘Nothing illegal about you talking to your employees about what you believe is best for the business, because I think that will figure into their election decision, their voting decision and of course doing that with your family and your kids as well. ‘
He’s correct that such speech is now legal for the first time ever, thanks to the Citizen United ruling, which overturned previous Federal Election Commission laws that prohibited employers from political campaigning among employees.
This is really unethical! But I am told by a friend that the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision allows it under guise of “Free Speech.” Any way, It’s reminiscent of white Southern plantation owners did in the 1870’s and early 1880’s trying to overthrow Reconstruction governments. They used both bribes and intimidation to try to force black sharecroppers to vote for segregationist Democrats.
LL, this sound like something you would expect in those countries with dictators , telling the people how to vote, and if they don’t vote the way they want them to they will be kill, or put in jail, or lose their job. Is this what America is coming too?
What this reminds me of is what Richard Nixon instructed the CIA to do to Chile after it elected the Socialist Salvador Allende to the presidency: “Make them scream”. It reminds me so much of it that I’m starting to write a piece for TPV.
Well, we have a corporate owned media that rewards a presidential candidate for skillfully lying to the American people, skew all “news” reporting to support or protect the political party whose anti-tax/anti-regulation policies favor the corporate elite (this political party also engages in voter supression and intimidation) and manipulate polls to create the impression of a tighter race than exists in reality. We are dangerously close to becoming a corporate dictatorship. PBO is truly the right man at the right time. He is trying to save this country from itself.
Is CNN the only place showing the Pres right now? CNN doesn usually work for me for some reason. CBS is talking about a terrorist threat, and C-Span ??????
UT, I don’t think we thank you enough both for your wonderful tweets and your summaries of news that informs many of us who don’t watch MSM regularly. It makes me feel good about the future of this country knowing that there are smart and engaged young people like you who will pretty soon be our next leaders. Again, thank you so much for the wonderful job you are doing to keep us informed.
I am declaring that more people watched this debate than the first one. My evidence? The debate party I was at had at least 40 people watching only one humongous t.v. The number crunchers didn’t take that into account now did they? No. So there! 😆
I agree PJ. The number crunchers made sure that they set the figure slightly lower than the first debate so that their friends in the MSM could then boast that more people saw Romney having a “great” performance. I call BS on that.
And when people heard Willard was getting his ass kicked from one side of the stage to another, I’m sure more people tuned in, just like rubberneckers at an accident scene. The replay stats are gonna be off the charts also. It’s my story and I’m sticking to it! 😆
Guess who I just voted for?!!!! I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it!! There was actually a line!! Now, I’m about to make calls and let the people in NC know that they should vote tomorrow!
I see above this disgusting scare tactic originated with Romney. Chgo news just reported that tea party wacko Joe Walsh is running around telling anyone who owns a business to tell their employees that if Dems are returned to Congress they will drop their health insurance, if Obama is re-elected they will likely lose their jobs. This is unbelievable and beyond ugly——threats on their votes!
it’s not a coincidence that the GOP are instructing employers to do this. It’s another coordinated attack, and a form of voter suppression. And it’s effective. People will feel unprotected – they have to pay their mortgage. These GOP are very effective at destroying every trusted American institution – including the very foundation of democracy. They can’t win on merit – so they cheat.
It seems to me something should be done about this—–it is clearly voter suppression, an attempt to take away personal choice through threats. They are trying to remove individual freedom from the voting process——-freedom!—-which the right loves to cite all the time.
MSM is truly a travesty now. I don’t know if they’re getting worse (my hunch is yes; they have no idea of what it was like before computers, internet, cell phones, voice mail. And so many of them in my Twitter feed do more than their share of whining.
“Only a Democrat could prevent a depression, end a war, get bin Laden and double the Dow then be told he can’t run on his record”
.@LOLGOP: "Only a Democrat could prevent a depression, end a war, get bin Laden and double the Dow then be told he can't run on his record"
There were many great smack down moments in the debate last night but one that’s getting no notice anywhere and that I find speaks volumes on PBO’s teams competence and foresight is: when did they give Crowley that transcript of PBO’s Rose Garden comments?
This team came prepared! They pegged Robme and anticipated -nay, they knew!- he would pull that lie out of his arse and they were ready. I mean they made Crowley read the damn thing.
“Proceed Govenor!” And after PBO didn’t react the way Robme was expecting, you could see a moment of recognition on Romney’s face. He didn’t know what was coming but he saw the open jaws of the trap and had nowhere to go but take that step inside.
So yeah, whose idea was it to have that transcript on the moderator’s desk? That was up there with having the extra helicopter in the BinLaden raid. Brilliant and kudos to the great mind who foresaw what was to be. 😆
Lol. But I don’t think when the President said to read the transcript he meant right then and there. His point was that there was an official record of what he said. And I don’t think the moderator had an actual copy of the transcript; she was just well informed. Fox News already attacking her for saying the sky is blue so we wouldn’t want to add to conspiracy theories that she had any special information from the Obama campaign before the debate. I think she and the President were both confident that he did call it an “act of terror” because the no act of terror will shake the resolve of this great nation was a moving and memorable line from the President’s Rose Garden statement. Perhaps Willard Mittens RMoney would have remembered it too if he had taken the time to listen to the President’s statement that morning instead of rushing out before him to politicize the deaths.
Where are you seeing that she had the transcripts? Crowley was on The View this morning and said that no one gave her anything and she did not have anyone in her ear with the stats. She said her intent was to move Mitt along so they wouldn’t get hung up on the ‘did not’ ‘did too’ stuff on the word terrorist. This is why she also conceded to Mitt that it was 2 weeks before everything came to light after investigations went further. She said that in the moment, she didn’t see it as fact checking, only that she remembered PBO being in the Rose Garden and the speech he gave at the time. The RWNJ are crucifying her and had always thought of her as a ringer when she announced as a moderator.
Sorry for the late response. Was going through all I missed in previous threads today.
In answer: When Robme is starting his line of doubt at the president saying ‘terror’ -after the ‘Proceed Gov” retort, PBO looks at Crowley, slightly raises his hand toward her and says “get the transcript” that’s when she awkwardly confirms that he did. (see video clip above) She also shuffles some papers. I don’t know what those paper were. But it is undeniable that he says that to her.
Did she have the transcript with her? Did they make sure and point it out to her before hand? Don’t know, but they made sure she knew about it so she had to agree.
Friends. We need all hands on deck. Vote Early. Lock it in.
Phone Bank. Knock on doors. Canvass. Volunteer to drive others to polling place
Give $, any amount you can.
We are going to win this election like the President whipped Flip Flopney yesterday.
I love that the CBS livestream guy follows President Obama’s plane or helicopter until it’s just a speck in the sky. And when he occasionally loses sight of the plane, the camera zooms all over in a crazy fashion, looking for it. It’s cute.
You know Bob, the only way Romney and his fellow corporatists are able to get away with this BS is through relentless propaganda and mis-information dished out by Right wing Talk Radio, FOX News, and, increasingly, by the so called mainstream media. Educated employees would not pay attention to what their employers urged them to do when it comes to casting a secret ballot. What I am saying is that there is no way my employer can intimidate me in casting a vote for a candidate that is not of my own choosing. My employ cannot use a threat of me loosing a job because he/she has no way of knowing how I cast my secret ballot. That’s the beauty of a secret ballot. Obviously, employers do influence employees if the employers’ propaganda is repeatedly being spewed by the media and thus taken seriously as TRUTH. Knowledgeable employees will not buy into the BS that any business owner would be so stupid to fire employees, and loose money, just because President Obama was re-elected. Republicans are now focused on promoting fear and misinformation as the key to winning elections.
The truth, however, is that we do not have to wonder about what Romney’s view on equal pay for women is. We do not even have to wait for his campaign to reveal Romney’s unspoken view on this issue, because the question can be answered in just one picture. This one:
That’s Justice Samuel Alito, the author of the Ledbetter opinion stripping many women of their right to equal pay for equal work. When asked how he would select his Supreme Court appointments if elected president, Romney named Alito, along with Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Scalia and Thomas, as his models. All four of Romney’s model justices voted against Lilly Ledbetter and against equal pay for women.
Romney’s promise to place more Alitos on the Supreme Court matters much more than his claim that he is not currently interested in enacting anti-woman legislation. Indeed, it would matter even more than if Romney affirmatively promised to sign pro-woman legislation if elected president. Here is why:
Obama election night: McCormick Place in Chicago
By Lynn Sweet on October 17, 2012 5:03 PM | No Comments
WASHINGTON–President Barack Obama’s election night event in Chicago will be at McCormick Place, I’ve been told. The rally will be indoors and will not be designed to try to recreate the massive Grant Park gathering that marked Obama’s 2008 election. I reported Oct. 3 Obama will be in Chicago election night. On Wednesday, the location was confirmed.
The event will be indoors, with the Obama team not wanting to take a chance on the November weather–which was gorgeous on the evening of 2008 when Obama was elected the 44th president of the United States. The 2012 Obama election night planners see the 2008 Grant Park event as unique in the history of the city and nation.
In 2008, Obama and wife Michelle voted at their South Side polling place–the Beulah Shoesmith Elementary School. Obama then flew to Indianapolis to work a phone bank, played basketball with pals, stopped home and then headed to the Hyatt on Wacker to watch the returns before hitting Grant Park.
In 2012, Obama will have voted already on election day–he is returning to Chicago on Oct. 25 to cast an early ballot. It’s a good bet he then will do election day get-out-the vote work in a battleground state.
The massive lakefront McCormick Place complex hosted the Chicago NATO summit in May. It is a central location, near public transportation with plenty of parking and close to downtown hotels.
// MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (AP) — Retired Iowa lawmaker Ro Foege watched in awe Wednesday as thousands of Barack Obama supporters, college students and voters of all ages waited outside a gymnasium for the president’s arrival.
Foege has lived in Mount Vernon for more than three decades, but he said the town of 4,500 outside Cedar Rapids had never seen anything like the scene at a Cornell College gymnasium where the president was to speak. Students camped out overnight and made T-shirts commemorating the visit, the first by a sitting president in the school’s 159-year history, a college spokesman said.
“I can’t remember anything bigger or more important for Mount Vernon,” said Foege, a Democrat who retired from the Iowa House in 2008. “There’s a lot of excitement and a lot of enthusiasm, and it’s not just college students. It’s a nice variety of people coming to our little town.” //
Obama is the man!
I’m killing these firsts nowadays! Hehe! Chips you know what to do. FLOTUS!
You’re rockin it. Congrats! 🙂
Ohio
😕 I’m ready.
top 10 again?
I am not on twitter but just thought of this can anyone help? Romney puts women in binders, Obama puts women on the Supreme Court.
I love that!
Here you go:
Nice! RT’d yez theo 😀
Applause! Applause!
thanks
Brilliant!
Woo hoo there, YA! Top 5 at the moment! 😆 😆
And I? I am in the TOP 14,000,000! Woot! 😆 hey Lady!
I’m cool with that.
I posted in the last thread, but the info was off a bit. Here’s the correct info:
TPM reporting it was slightly less. Still a lot of people watched the debate which is nothing but good news for Obama.
”
65.6 Million Watched Second Debate, Slightly Less Than First”
http://t.co/AowXmyZI
But but but Binders…
The FIRST thing my manager said to me when she came in this morning was “Binders full of women? Really? What the fuck?” (Yes, librarians cuss.)
I’m shocked!
I have a shaved head, a fashionable beard, dress to impress, and drink gimlets. This isn’t your father’s librarian. 😆
Clearly not… no wonder people fantasize about you librarians taking off your librarian glasses and having your way with them… 😉
Too funny LL, we had some really fuddy duddy’s in my day. Wished we had a few like, I might have spent more time there lurking. 🙂 Good post at TPV. (((((hugs)))))
I have never met a librarian who wasn’t cool. (But then I’m quite partial to smart people.)
Here’s the crowd for our President – it’s Huge
/large
What a gorgeous setting!
The people look unenthused and the trees are the wrong height.
😦
Tell it Bob! You’re tireless!! 🙂
November 2012 issue of Essense magazine has a lovely 2-pg story on First Grandmother, Marian Robinson (FLOTUS’ mom).
Mitt Romney really is his own worst enemy.
{{{ Utal}}}
Thanks for the great laugh. Where do people have the time and cleverness to come up with this stuff?
That had me cracking up so funny.
O.M.G. THAT is funny! I’m RT’ing this and sending it to friends! Ha! 😀
Thanks for sharing these outrageously funny and creative rifs on Mitt’s cave man comment (which it turns out was not completely true). I laughed so hard that it brought on a coughing fit.
Check out the Funny or Die website for more fun.
There’s been a lot of talk about choice, and it’s encouraging to see that many voters in the early states are already making the right choice.
I see Condi Rice is campaigning with Paul Ryan in Oh. today—–which I thought was interesting and obvious. Visited the Cleveland Browns training facility, had photos taken with players.
George W. Bush S.O.S is hanging with Paul Ryan. Iraq Condi. Who’s next Cheney? Or how about the big man himself G.W. Bush.
Nice of the Romney campaign to remind us about the last administration that actually did fall down on the job of national security.
They don’t want to be reminding people of Dubya. Condi is the only member of that administration who is (1) willing to appear in public with R or R and (2) doesn’t have outstanding warrants. (Though she deserves it.)
LOL 😀
According to Al Giordano, Paul Ryan flubbed identifying one of the players.
Nevada is better than that, we have a 127k voter reg lead there.
There’s another poll out today by Grove Insights, a Dem pollster, but whose better numbers and methods Jon Ralston agrees with.

CNN is streaming … no audio yet …
Introduction underway … audio on on CNN ….
I love that everyone now calls the Affordable Care Act “Obamacare”.
Me too. It almost seems to have lost that sneering quality when the right first coined it.
I think it has lost that sneering quality. Thinking people now seem to say the words with pride.
😀 😀
please tell me this shit is against the law or EEO statutes or something?
Prior to Citizens United, it certainly was … but, it still sucks and won’t do #BainMitt any good if it catches on … a la #47Percent …
I think even with Citizens United, it’s still illegal.
We need experts to evaluate this quickly … hopefully, David Corn & Mother Jones will bring some attention to it, quickly ….
As many of you as possible, please ask David and others to dig in!
Not according to the article.

In the June call, Romney went on to reassure his audience that it is perfectly legal for them to talk to their employees about how to vote:

Just after the 26 min mark, he delivers his ‘concluding remarks’ … this is not a hoax, that’s Romney loud and clear ….

Dammit, the link is dead. Hope they get it up and working soon.

Outrageous !
That is scarey. If these GOP types prevail, I can’t imagine what would become of USA.
PBO IS HITTING ON ALL CYLINDERS. THIS SPEECH IS BRILLIANT.
President Obama is great!
Yay podium slap
Look at all those People?
What a beautiful picture!! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Oh Dear…HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
This was one of the BEST campaign rally speeches Pres. Obama has ever given. He just keeps getting better and better and better. Freaking amazing!
This comment choked me up.
CNN now covering Sensata. Is this the 1st time they covered it?
For those who missed the event.

I agree with Nath. I missed the rally but enjoy catching up via your commentary.
I loved how PBO asked for the vote last night. Expect Willard to start copying in 3…2…1…

That was very well done. I was completely entertained.

I plan to watch the smackdown segments over again tonight. They’re just too good.
She had interviewed Axelrod or one of the other advisers on State of the Union the following Sunday and this topic was stressed.
15K.

I’ll post a summary when the call is over. 🙂
Wonderful! Looking forward to hearing from you about how it went.
Very fine tweet ….
This is a wonderful tweet! It must be shared widely.
I wonder what Sarah Palin has to say about that comment — especially since Bristol is a single mother.
President Obama departs Athens, Ohio – http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml
I love that the CBS livestream guy follows President Obama’s plane or helicopter until it’s just a speck in the sky. And when he occasionally loses sight of the plane, the camera zooms all over in a crazy fashion, looking for it. It’s cute.
Ed’s on it ….
It it’s #RomneyRyan, it’s #ExtortTheVote time ….
Republicans are now focused on promoting fear and misinformation as the key to winning elections.
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/10/17/1035571/why-romney-is-against-equal-pay-for-women-in-one-picture/
This is scary. This Supreme Court is out of control – and it’s the most important reason to vote Democrat for the next 50 years.

For small Iowa town, Obama visit creates big buzz
