Huge good news for voting rights! Now up to everyone who can do so to clear up any confusion and get voters out to the polls.
Confusion is the enemy of voting equality and I hope the media and activists in Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania and other states can get the correct info out.
This is very welcome news on a day when I doubt I am the only ardent supporter of PBO who is biting her nails.
[Totally OT, but this has to be a case of hope springs eternal, etc. 🙂 ]:
Judges of controversial Mo Ibrahim award can’t find worthy winner for third time in six years
Daniel Howden
Tuesday, 16 October 2012
One of the world’s most lucrative prizes went begging yesterday after judges failed to find any African leader worthy of the $5m (£3.1m) award for excellence in leadership.
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation, set up by the Sudan-born British telecoms billionaire, decided for the third time in six years that no one met its criteria. Defending the decision not to name a laureate, Mr Ibrahim said the credibility of his award was at stake: “You make your bed, you have to lie on it. If we said we’re going to have a prize for exceptional leadership, we have to stick to that. We are not going to compromise.”
Earlier this month the former BT engineer made a one-off “extraordinary award” to South African archbishop Desmond Tutu, lauding him as one of the “great voices” for justice, democracy and freedom. The move prompted much speculation that the glitzier leadership award may skip a year once again. The last Mo Ibrahim laureate was given to Cape Verde’s former president, Pedro Verona Pires, who won the 2011 prize ending a two-year drought. Mr Pires was hailed for transforming the former Portuguese colony, an archipelago of half-a-million people off West Africa, from a one-party state into a multi-party democracy and substantially improving living standards.
n the state’s plea to the Justices, officials asked that the lower court decision be put on hold — thus allowing the closing of those weekend days’ voting — until the Supreme Court could consider a planned appeal on the issue. As an alternative, the state’s officers asked the Justices to summarily overrule the lower court order, without further briefing or oral argument. They had filed their application with Justice Elena Kagan, who acts on emergency matters for the Sixth Circuit, which includes Ohio. Rather than acting on her own, Kagan referred the issue to the full Court, which issued the order Tuesday denying the stay application.
This is what happens when our President appoints brilliant women to the supreme court…Love Kagan and Sotomayor. I pray for Justice Ginsburg her body is so frail but her spirit is mighty.
If you ever have a minute or two, read up on Justice Ginsburg’s history. She’s been a fighter her entire life and proof that dynamite can be found in very small packages. One of the great women of our time.
The Hofstra University students behind Andrea Mitchell are freaking awesome. New York is BLUE and 100% behind Pres. Obama and the students are letting the world know. Their FORWARD, Obama-Biden 2012, Women For Obama, Students For Obama, Sesame Street 4 Obama signs and chants of Fired Up Ready To Go and 4 More Years is so uplifting. Robert Gibbs got such a rousing cheer and it took him aback that the students actually knew who he was.
Afternoon TOD;
and a special Congratulation to Chipsticks; prayers and gratitude for all that you do on this site; work that reflect a level of commitment that inspire, motivate and encourage President Obama’s supporters not only in America but World wide…14 Million Thank You is not enough!!! But here is one of many…Thank You!!!.
Good afternoon, evening, night TODville!!! Waves to Mayor Chips, “hello mayor, congrats on the growing numbers!”
Peers around for citizen VC …Bellows “VC are you here.” Shucks!!! missed her)!!!
Hiya Everyone, I am in Lurkdom, it’s better for me there…I am of calm demeanor, so I tend to want to take people out to the woodshed who gets overly excitable (especially when it comes to polls, debates and what they think the campaign didn’t do). As such, it is better for me in Lurkdom where I can remain mum (and mumble in irritation to myself).
Alright Miss Pamela, as per your instructions, I will say one thing.
Dear fellow TODvillagers, lurkers, passers-byers, popping-inners…Please watch the debate an a channel sans pundits. After the debate is over, have a conversation with on TODville (no freaking out), or with your “real time” family, friends, dogs, cats, hamsters…etc. Whatever you do, do not watch the people who are paid by certain interests to tell lies and deflate the confidence and optimism of the Blue Team. FORWARD!!!!
Exactement! Just listen, then think about what was said, and make your own decisions about what happened! My cat is smarter than many so-called voters… She will be wearing her Cats For Obama collar! With Pride! 🙂
I am very much here, CJ, and though the armchair pundits can annoy, I’ve learned to cover my eyes and step around when I think it’s too much. Not to worry though, I think you can hang around tonight (tomorrow morning, for you?) because EVERYONE has silently pledged to be nothing but positive in the village whether PBO knocks out that other guy or gives him a pleasant handshake. 😆
Congratulations Chips on hitting 14m! You are doing a wonderful job here and it is very much appreciated. This is the only place I can come to and get positive news on PBO. If my boss checked what websites I go to at work this site will get 95% share and I could probably be fired! But you are a gem……..all I can say is “thank you”.
I don’t know if Frank Luntz is still working for CBS…but the NHL owners hired him to handle their PR against the players and the union (NHL Lockout 31 days now and counting). Apparently Luntz’s strategy got leaked to Deadspin.com…after reading this article…I started to think the phrase “Enthusiam Gap” came from this guy.
Yes, he is still working for CBS. They hired him this year. A well known pioneer of the Jan 20, 2012 political Coup ‘d tat of a newly sworn president…. the very day that he was sworn in. CBS hired an operator…..partisan.
How true. POTUS can’t possibly say all of the things “he must say” and answer questions in a town hall. They are setting him up and if any of them bothered to listen in the first debate, he did bring up some of those things.
Obama walks up behind the podium. After first question, looks at Mitt, says “Where’s ur tax returns?” Drops mic & walks off stage. #debate— Chris Rock (@chrisrockoz) October 16, 2012
Congratulations Chips on the 14 mil! And thank you for providing this respite and inspiration for so many of us.
It is a day of good news on so many fronts from the debunking of Mittens tax and jobs plans and now the view on Benghazi. The NY Times is reporting that in fact the attack was based on the video from interviews with locals rather than as any planned attack because of 9/11.
“To Libyans who witnessed the assault and know the attackers, there is little doubt what occurred: a well-known group of local Islamist militants struck without any warning or protest, and they did it in retaliation for the video. That is what the fighters said at the time, speaking emotionally of their anger at the video without mentioning Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden or the terrorist strikes of 11 years earlier. And it is an explanation that tracks with their history as a local militant group determined to protect Libya from Western influence.
“It was the Ansar al-Shariah people,” said Mohamed Bishari, a 20-year-old neighbor who watched the assault and described the brigade he saw leading the attack. “There was no protest or anything of that sort.””
I was under the impression that Al-Queda usually claims their terrorist attacks, they let everyone know this. I do not recall any Al-Queda spokesman claimimg that they were responsible for the attacks in Benghazi.
I don’t pay attention to polls even when they look rosy for us, but this morning at starbucks got a glimpse of USATODAY, something about women boosting Romney ahead of PBO now. Is this a joke? I don’t even see one effective Romney ad on tv on women issues. What’s up with the women?
Either way I’ve yet to hear any women really talking great about Romney however I do notice how the media always tends to favor Romney by pretty much leaving his lies unchallenged.
The polls were broken down yesterday. The USA Today/Gallup Poll is 100% hogwash. Their margin of error is 4%-6%. Any student of statistics knows that’s complete BS. Their internals were messed up, their likely voters screen was nuts, their methodology was laughable and to top the hilarity off, they designated 12 states as battleground states. 12 states. Pres. Obama is not behind Romney among women. Most polls show Pres. Obama a solid 18-22 points ahead of Romney with women.
The USA Today/Gallup poll also indicated that Pres. Obama is behind Romney in 5 swing states. That’s nonsense. The round of polls that came out post debate show Pres. Obama between 5-6 points ahead of Romney in 5 swing states. In addition to that, the USA Today/Gallup poll was conducted between October 5-11 while the other polls were conducted October 10-13 which makes them more current and more reliable.

Since when has Polita Fact started pre-fact checking debates? Upon getting to my email I saw a Yahoo News item. I clicked on it and saw it was about tonight’s debate and fact checked Obama and Romney on likely issues. I noted many parsed words closely (not spoken yet) by Obama to come up with an untruth and went to the Romney campaign to ask what the candidate meant by his past spoken words accepting spin on those words as facts. I thought Polita Fact (spelling is wrong- sorry) was an impartial source.
Let’s have a cackle at those TX repugs! 🙂 Check out these emails — start at bottom and work your way up, if you can close your eyes first to that first para:
