One of the things I stumbled on in my wanderings was this example of how GOP faithfully cut their lying guy enough slack even when they deign to concede that he is not answering question asked.

@VC, I know you are solid as a rock, we all are. I cannot seem to do enough. I have cut back on most of my pleasures until after the election just to donate what I can and have made frequent trips to PA to help out.
Now, I stay close to home and make sure people have all the facts and make sure they are not getting complacent and believing the hype. I do plan to give out hot apple cider in the early morning to the Seniors who are coming out to vote in my area.

The media is who I am so disgusted . I am so grateful that the covers are being pulled off of their good for nothing , you know what!
They must be held accountable. I am hoping when PBO moves on with his life he goes back to teaching, specifically U.S. govt., journalism. Maybe then we can once again be proud of these professions as in the past. The media is disgusting.

Hey guys. Urgent Question. For those who use Apple, Have you gotten an update from Apple for Safari that after it updated, your Google Search Bar completely disappeared and instead you now have a box called “Reader” on the tool bar that acts as a search bar? I want my Google Search Bar back. How do I get it back? Apple is pissing me off today.

    • October 11, 2012 at 3:39 pm

Apple is slowly excising all Google things. Very shortsighted.

        October 11, 2012 at 3:41 pm

It’s fucking annoying. Now when I click on a link, it doesn’t open the link up in a new webpage, it opens the link as tab. Apple is simultaneously kick ass and simultaneously fucked up. They’re taking away all things Google and I want my Google back. It just looks weird now.

      • October 11, 2012 at 4:14 pm

It’s hasn’t excised Google it just moved the query to a different place.

      Hi ut,
the reader bar is just like the google bar…type whatever you want in it and it will google it for you. I was also a little miffed at first with this update but I quite like it now. I like the tab opening because if you are at one page and click a link on that page it will put it in a tab for you that you can just x out of without getting rid of the original page. If you want a new window just click on file and new window.

You’re awesome Joy! Thanks so much. Quick question. My “Reader” Box is just a grey box with the word “Reader” written very faint. How does one type inside it? Do I have to go somewhere in Safari to set it up and make it active? Because now it’s just a grey solid box.

          October 11, 2012 at 4:43 pm

Mine is the same, not sure what it is for, I’m thinking it is just there to tell you that the address bar is the reader. So whatever you type in your address bar it is reading it for you and taking you to a google search. Hope this helps. This was a very helpful site for me when I first got my macbook if you have any questions on this forum they are great at answering them.

for sure! I frankly don’t need a pugilistic PBO, but that deep warmth and passion, the connection he makes on the campaign trail — Romney cannot compete on that level in anyone’s universe. PBO does that in the next debate, and we put all this last week’s bullshit to bed.

  19. October 11, 2012 at 3:47 pm

It is the Electoral College numbers that matter not national numbers so GOTV in those swing states is OFA ‘s mission as you know, Jovie.

      • October 11, 2012 at 4:14 pm

Yeah I know, but if the President is still winning in the swing states, then he must be getting blown out in the South, I think that must be what the polls are picking up.

    • 78 57andfemale
      October 11, 2012 at 4:26 pm

IBD and Rasmussen swung in PBO’s favor today, although Romney still leads at IBD, but it was a dramatic shift: 4-point swing toward PBO with Romney up 1 (up 5 yesterday). Some of the other national polls still have data from October 4. Gallup went the wrong way, with LV and particularly RV, which is just strange to me.

In the aggregate, a wash. But Romney’s right in it – nationally at least. We need to extend leads in some of the swing states to counteract the voter suppression. I just loathe seeing Romney ahead by even a tenth of a point.

Just great. Just bloody great. Apple has now made the address bar into a Google Search Bar and has removed the Google Search Bar from the side of the tool bar and now there is something called “Reader” in the space where the Google Search Bar used to be. Has this happened to any Apple/Safari users and were you able to get your Google Search Bar back on the side of the address bar?

Apple users, I need answers please.

    • October 11, 2012 at 4:05 pm

Did you recently upgrade your Safari? I don’t have the problem you’re talking about. I’m on Safari v.5.1.7.

I suggest you check this page out to see if you can figure it out:

      • 94 utaustinliberal
        October 11, 2012 at 4:11 pm

Yeah. I just upgraded my Safari as recommended by Apple and the Google Search Bar is gone. Your URL and Your Google Search Bar has now been unified and joined together as one. There is no longer any Google Search Bar on the side of the tool bar.

Hey Meta, How do I search for the version of Safari I’m using? I just upgraded so it’s new.

One more question. I hear Google Chrome is better than Safari. Would it be better to download Google Chrome and use that?

        • October 11, 2012 at 4:18 pm

You bring down the Safari menu and the first item is, “About Safari”. It will open a box to tell you what version you have.

Looks like you have the newest 6.0. They are constantly upgrading the browser as they shift to the prominence of new features like Mountain Lion and iCloud. You can probably Google and find out how to install the old version if it’s driving you nuts.

I think each browser has it’s pluses and minuses. I haven’t used Chrome.

Obama: Romney Now ‘Severely Kidding’ About Past Positions
    Video here: http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/obama-romney-now-severely-kidding

In a notably sharper stump speech on Thursday, President Obama attacked Mitt Romney for his shifting positions on taxes, health care and education by using the Republican’s own descriptor as “severely conservative.”

“He’s trying to go through an extreme makeover. After running for more than a year in which he called himself severely conservative, Mitt Romney’s trying to convince you that he was severely kidding,” said Obama at a campaign event in Florida. “Look. What he was selling was not working. Because people understood his ideas wouldn’t help the middle class so these days Mitt Romney’s for whatever you’re for.”

    Obama continued:

Suddenly he loves the middle class. Can’t stop talking enough about them. He loves Medicare. Loves teachers. He even loves the most important parts of Obamacare. What happened? Now, what does he have to say this new version of Mitt Romney about all the things he’s actually promised to do as president? Tax breaks for outsourcers? Never heard of such a thing. Saying we should cut back on teachers? Doesn’t ring a bell

    More good news from Ohio:

Court: Ohio Can’t Throw Out Ballots Because Of Poll Worker Error

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Thursady that Ohio can’t toss out ballots that were cast in the wrong precinct but in the right location because of poll worker error. Election lawyer Rick Hasen called it the “most important decision in this election cycle.”

“The State would disqualify thousands of rightplace/wrong-precinct provisional ballots, where the voter’s only mistake was relying on the poll-worker’s precinct guidance,” the court ruled. “That path unjustifiably burdens these voters’ fundamental right to vote.”

  37. October 11, 2012 at 4:38 pm

“When Biden and Ryan debate, the vice president should ask his Republican challenger: “Which side are you on?”

Or, better yet, which of Mitt’s many sides are you on?”

Hey Joy, Question for you about Safari.

You’re awesome Joy! Thanks so much. Quick question. My “Reader” Box is just a grey box with the word “Reader” written very faint. How does one type inside it? Do I have to go somewhere in Safari to set it up and make it active? Because now it’s just a grey solid box. Also, how do I check what version of OS X I have? I know you said your version is 10.8.2

On some websites, the Reader box turns blue and when I click on it, it opens a box where it makes whatever’s on the website bigger and I can read it in bigger font and when I click on “ESC or Escape” it returns me back to the webpage. How are you able to type in your Reader box like you said you could? Thanks.

One is that Hispanics get overwhelminigly underpolled and republicans get polled more or at least even to democrats and independents, this can clearly change the outcome of the poll and shows that you should never take these things at face value.

Remember Harry Reid? The polls favored Angle but the reason she lost was because hispanics came out in droves and voted for Reid. The polls underestimated the HIspanic community and it looks like they are doing so once again at their peril.

You’re right, of course, Jeff. But this isn’t anything new. Minority voters get undercounted all the time.

it’s a mistake to under poll minorities, particularly hispanics because they vote unlike the media projects and most are indeed legal immigrants and have little problem proving their citizenship despite what these states are trying to do. It would be a BIG mistake to not poll this group.

It was the media that started the freak-out. Now they’re trying to pretend as if they had nothing to do with it. Don’t yell FIRE in a damn crowded theatre and then act all innocent when folks get trampled to death.

Hey Joy. Thanks for all your help with Safari. I just found out what the grey Reader box is used for. It zooms the web page into a larger window without ads. That way the page is easier to read. So if you go to the NY Times website and want to read an article without seeing ads, just click the “Reader” box and it will zoom the webpage into a larger window and you can read the article. When you’re done, Click “ESC” or escape. It’s really convenient. 😀

‘Fired’ GOP Operative Sproul’s Companies Appear Still Hard at Work for GOP; Members of Congress Seek Explanation in Election Fraud Investigation

Evidence reveals Romney consultant at center of GOP Voter Registration Fraud Scandal still working for Repubs in 10 states
‘Issue Advocacy Partners’ looks to be clone of Sproul’s ‘Strategic Allied Consulting’

Questions continue to grow about Nathan Sproul and his various companies’ multi-million dollar work for the Republican National Committee, despite claims that they’ve broken ties with him on the heels of a nationwide GOP Voter Registration Fraud Scandal. A virtual clone of his discredited Strategic Allied Consulting firm appears to still be operating on behalf of Republicans in at least 10 states.

At the same time, Democrats in Congress are now asking for official answers from both Sproul and very senior Republicans, according to new letters obtained by The BRAD BLOG.

Sproul went on the record with us, briefly, to address some of these issues in his own defense, before he was ordered by his newly hired crisis response manager to stop speaking to us all together.

When the RNC invested $3 million to hire Strategic Allied Consulting, a company quietly created this August by Sproul, a paid political consultant to Mitt Romney, and then instructed state GOP affiliates in seven key battleground states (FL, NC, VA, NV, CO, WI and OH) to do the same, they knew very well about his companies’ long documented history of alleged electoral misconduct and voter registration fraud… [LOTS more in the article]

Just a reminder. If you watch the debates on CSPAN then choose CSPAN1 for the split screen version. CSPAN2 broadcasts by showing only the person speaking at the time.

    [A little fun relief]:

I HAD expected to keep mum about my problem with Michelle Obama until after the election, but my frustration has gotten the better of me. I can contain it no longer.

I refer not to her politics, but to her arms — her bare, toned, elegant arms. Enough!

The first lady has made it unacceptable for women to appear in public with covered arms. However innocently, however unwittingly, that is what she has done. Those bare, toned, elegant arms of hers have spawned an epidemic of sleevelessness, exposing arms, arms, arms, and not all of them toned and elegant.

Temp staffing agencies are harder to get through to now. It’s not like it was 20 years ago. Everything is email now, and they don’t make it easy to follow up with a phone call, because no one will talk to you. This sucks. 😦

CBS4 Miami Kicks Off Investigative Series on Overlooked E-Voting Concerns: ‘Citizens Should be Screaming From the Rooftops’

[Local news TV report video included in article]

Veteran FL election official, Ion Sancho warns: ‘It is wrong to assume that the machines are always right. They’re not’…
By Brad Friedman on 10/5/2012, 1:23pm PT

Lost in all of the front-end voter suppression and voter registration fraud news over the past many months this cycle, is the continuing “back-end” threat to Election Integrity still very much present in our unoverseeable, easily-manipulated, oft-failed electronic voting systems — both touch-screen and paper ballot optical-scan systems.

Helping to balance that, if only a bit this week, we get some excellent investigative local TV news reporting from Miami’s Michele Gillen and her CBS4 Investigative team. They have noticed that we still have a very serious problem with the privatization of our supposedly-public electoral system, which now employes proprietary computer systems from private companies to determine the results of our elections…

From the printed version of the report…

“MIAMI (CBS4) – Ion Sancho is a man on a mission. Just weeks from the presidential election, one of the most veteran election supervisors in the state of Florida, thinks there’s plenty for him and his colleagues to lose sleep over.

What keeps him awake at night? Whether you can trust the machine you will be voting on.

“We still have not secured the process to ensure that that machine has read that ballot correctly and it is 100 percent accurate. Because it is wrong to assume that the machines are always right. They’re not, ” Sancho tells CBS4 Chief Investigator Michele Gillen.

“I think the citizens should be screaming from the rooftops,” he punctuates with the candor and directness he is known for. ”

The legendary Ion Sancho, quoted above, is Leon County, FL’s long-time Supervisor of Elections, so trusted by both parties that he was named to oversee the (eventually aborted) 2000 Presidential Election recount in the Sunshine State. He was also the first election official in the nation to allow an independent hack test of an electronic voting system. That test resulted in the stunning hack of a Diebold optical-scan system as seen in the shocking climactic scene of HBO’s Emmy-nominated 2006 documentary Hacking Democracy.

Despite that very public hack, almost seven years ago, the very same machines are still in use in dozens of states. All the rest use computers that are virtually identical, and as easily manipulated and as often malfunctioning.

Sancho goes on, in the report above, to give today’s Florida election system a grade of “F. F. F.” He’s being kind though.

Watching “The Billionares Tea Party” and found the movie to be very interesting and powerful. Some parts really upset me but I kept watching it. A lot of it confirms pretty much my understanding the truth of this fake movement.
