‘Romney’s emotional story remembered very differently by friend of fallen SEAL’
MyNorthWest.com: On the stump in Iowa Tuesday, Mitt Romney revealed that he met former Navy SEAL Glen Doherty at a holiday party some years ago. Doherty is one of four Americans killed during the September 11th attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.
…. one of Glen Doherty’s best friends remembered Doherty’s impression of this meeting much differently …. “He said it was very comical. Mitt Romney approached him ultimately four times, using this private gathering as a political venture to further his image. He kept introducing himself as Mitt Romney, a political figure. The same introduction, the same opening line. Glen believed it to be very insincere and stale.”
Ellefsen said Doherty remembered Romney as robotic … “He said it was pathetic and comical to have the same person come up to you within only a half hour, have this person reintroduce himself to you, having absolutely no idea whatsoever that he just did this 20 minutes ago, and did not even recognize Glen’s face.”
…. “Honestly it does make me sick. Glen would definitely not approve of it … I think he would feel, more than anything, almost embarrassed for Romney. I think he would feel pity for him.”

Couldn’t agree more LL, if this was PBO we’d get wall-to-wall coverage for at least a week. When I read Glen Doherty’s friend’s comments earlier I just guessed how the Romney campaign would try to smear him, but it’s a whole lot harder to smear Glen’s mother. The media will largely ignore this, we can be sure, I’d love to see us spread it far and wide.
It seems there is no depth of depravity that Romney will not sink to. Exploiting the death of a Navy Seal for political reasons is beyond the pale.
Honestly UT, I try not to hate anyone …. but this guy makes it SO hard.

Well over half. I admit I still go there to get the latest news — they still seem to get information out really fast for those of us who can’t look at twitter every minute. There are a lot of people who are strongly committed to reelecting the President there. But there is no way to sugarcoat the freaking out that happened there the last week. For someone who doesn’t have the stomach for conflict, I should find another source for my instant news, shouldn’t I?
Anyway, it’s a good poll. Most of the polling today looks good.
I don’t think we should ever forget the concerted and orchestrated opposition to PBO at DK in 2008 and in the run-up to the 2010 mid-terms – and the way Moulitsas allowed it happen. And how AAs were made to feel unwelcome there. I laugh now when I see people retweeting him when he’s being supportive of PBO, my attitude is: **** you. I know people are capable of seeing the political light, but his Republican roots (like Cenk U) make me wonder sometimes. Much as I adore so many of the people there, the place is still infested with trolls (probably of the Koch variety) and PUMAs. Never, ever trust it.

Agreed. But they did trash BlackWaterDog and ran her away because she was too “pro-Obama”. They may have 80% support for Obama its that 20% that can get hateful at time. A lot of AA’s stopped going there due to rude behavior from some on that site. I stopped going there and followed BWD and now TOD for 100% Obama support. We may disagree on somethings the President has done but we support him as President and re-election 100%.

Surprisingly, I’ve found the diaries to be pro-Obama since the debate. Of course, I don’t read the comments.
The comments have been 50/50 awful to great but I agree that the diaries posted have tried to get people re-focused and out their own b.s.. There is no middle ground.
To Romney when a soldier dies this is good news because he can then use their death as a means to try and score political points.

Sorry if this is a re-post but the President’s radio interview with Tom Joyner has some insights on what he was thinking during the debate:
What happened in the debate? Everybody wants to know,” radio host Tom Joyner asked Obama. “Was that some kind of genius strategy to rope-a-dope him in?”
The president ducked the Muhammad Ali comparison but said “I think it’s fair to say I was just too polite” and promised to be more combative at the second and third debates, to be held October 16 and October 22. “We’re going to take it to him.”
Obama sought to reassure panicked Democrats who have watched as post-debate polls seem to show the race now narrowly in Romney’s favor in battleground states.
“This was always going to be a close race,” Obama insisted. “Governor Romney kept on making mistakes month after month so it made it look artificially like this was, might end up being a cakewalk. But we understood internally that it never would be.”[…]
“By next week I think a lot of the hand wringing will be complete because we’re going to go ahead and win this thing,” Obama said.
Obama tried to explain away his subdued performance in the debate.

Good Afternoon TOD
There was mention of this upthread but our phonebanks this week have seen bursting at the seams with volunteers. On Monday they had over 150 volunteers come out to help make calls and last night I had to sit in my car and make my calls because there was no room in that big ole office of ours.
I’ve had had no interest in the hand-wringing and the cable chatter this week so I’ve channeled my energy to volunteering every night after work. It keeps me calm and I’m so inspired by the work being done on the ground. We were told on Monday by our Team Leader to keep our heads down (reading call sheets), our noses to the grindstone (making contact with voters) and our boots on the ground (turning out the vote). The rest she said is all noise. They talked to us about how OFA has built an unprecedented force for this election. We will turnout the vote and we will win!!

Feel much better today as I’ve gone back to my position after the debate that any bounce Mitt received would be temporary. The campaign to intimidate ABC reporter Martha Raddatz, who will moderate the October 11 vice presidential debate, is being led by a news organization that has received considerable financial backing from a wealthy donor who has spent millions of dollars trying to defeat President Obama.
Raddatz has come under fire from the right-wing media machine since the conservative Daily Caller reported that Obama attended her wedding in 1991 as a guest of the groom, Julius Genachowski, a Harvard Law School classmate of the president. Raddatz and Genachowski divorced in 1997.
After the Daily Caller reported on Obama’s attendance at the wedding, the conservative media echo chamber pounced, touting the Daily Caller piece and working the refs by insinuating that Obama’s attendance at a wedding more than 20 years ago would give Vice President Joe Biden an unfair advantage during the VP debate.

A campaign official told CNN that Romney will no longer use the anecdote, which he introduced on Tuesday while campaigning in Iowa and recounted again at a town hall meeting in Ohio.

This is classic Alzheimer’s behavior. So is his aggression. I know. My dad died of it.
Wasn’t it the strangest behavior Tally? I’m not sure it’s Alzheimers, I think he has such a lack of interest in any other human being nothing computes, he never remembers a face, a name or a story because he just doesn’t care about them.
