Lets not freak about the polling in the coming week. Most of it due to increased GOP enthusiasm, not so much switched votes.

Thanks for the voice of sanity. In 2008, we had a local OFA rep in our county who worked incredibly hard for the campaign. Whenever something occurred in the news that was either pro-or anti-Obama, I would ask him what he thought. What he always said was “I don’t pay any attention. I’m focused on doing my job and meeting our goals.” Good advice. We’ve got people to talk to and goals to met. Keep focused.

Yup. I don’t have cable right now so much of the freakouts I see are on twitter. My thing is this — as long as we’re working as hard as we can, we’ll win.

If I’m not mistaken there is only one poll today – PPP – that has Romney up. As Chips has shown Gallop has PBO 50 – Romney 45.

      October 8, 2012 at 7:17 pm

I also don’t buy that MSM meme of “increased GOP enthusiasm”. Romney still cannot report honestly the crowds he’s getting post debate. Yesterday he and Ryan had a “secret” rally that was closed off to the media entirely. If they had all that enthusiasm, we would be seeing their post-debate crowds all over the papers.

hopefruit2 I don’t buy it either…there has been REAL news about the so called debate moving undecided independs to PBO. And I notice MSM is not showing the numbers re Latinos, women, A/A, etc…another thing they (especially Chuckie) don’t talk about the crowd size like they used to. Although I have refused to watch, I haven’t heard much about the September money raised. These people are full of bs.

That baby is just asking for a big snorfle! So adorable.
I am so pleased about the honoring of Cesar Chavez. I was in California when the organizing of farm workers was just beginning. It was a long and bitter struggle and Cesar and Delores were always in the forefront. Everything that was said about civil rights activists in the south was said about them. The big growers were vicious.

I still remember the day I could buy union-picked grapes. Hadn’t eaten them for YEARS.

Let’s stop watching T.V. Let’s watch debates on Cspan. let’s stop listening to pundits who are too often adolescent in their analyses and intentionally incendiary. Let’s stop being re-active ( quick to get depressed as I have been) and do what we always said we would do: Vote for PBO and do all we can to put this man, our man, back into office.

frankly, my nerves can’t take all the up and down, and back and forth. I am voting for Barack Hussein Obama, and I am voting early.

    That’s all.

it is less than a week since the last freak out. Just look at the polls they are all over the place one minute to the next. Our chains are being “YANKED” guys. Get a grip, no more of that stuff from last week.

Thanks to all those hard working Volunteers trying to get President Obama re-elected. They need our support and the way to do that is to remain positive and committed to this Movement.

Do not give the media the satisfaction of pulling another one over us. The next Debate is in 2 days they are starting already to call it.

Sorry but I don’t buy any poll that claims that PBO and Romney are tied with women voters. The only way Obama can erase a double digit lead among women in one day is if he gave Michelle a black eye or molested someone’s child. One debate is not going to erase a double digit lead – it’s just not humanly possible.

I cannot understand why any woman other than Anne would vote for Romney. Look at the care, love and respect that PBO shows Mrs. Chavez in these photos and look at the expression on Delores Huerta’s face as she looks up at him (didn’t she receive an award at the White House recently in recognition of her service?). Rosario Dawson, the actress and others are just lit up in his presence. This is a man who walks the walk everyday of his life.

I’m not even sure Ann would vote for him, CEB, since she’s the one who accidentally let it slip that he might be emotionally unfit to sit in the White House (as if). Something in me says she knew what she was saying, but she forgot our media will hide as much of the warnings as slide out of her mouth.

But you are so right about PBO!

Let us stop acting as the color of Mitt Romney’s skin isn’t playing a part as to his support. A big part. Mitt Romney is a bold face liar. And people know that but it does not matter, the only thing which matter to them is to get rid if that black man in the White House.

      • 84 Vicki Green
        October 8, 2012 at 7:52 pm

Yes, Anniebella, there are people like that. But there are many more of us and we will keep PBO in office.

      • October 8, 2012 at 8:02 pm

anniebella, you are so right but some don’t want to face it. But the world is watching the USA and its treatment of the men who save the economy, Who had OBL killed, who pass ObamaCare for it’s people. And they may ask, What’s the hell is wrong with America. If Mitt win, Racism beat out ObamaCare, OBL death, Economy that’s rebounding. Name one other President who ever did all this in his first term and the country look at it and says he failed. I can only think of one who is close, A. Lincoln. Why he failed: because he free the slaves. We have came a long way, but have a long way to go. Vote Obama/Biden and let’s move forward.

Anniebella, I too live in NC and I understand why you said what you did. I just want you to know that there are a lot of “white” people that love PBO as much as you do. My whole family, which is scattered over NC, adore him and are working hard to reelect PBO…..but…everyday I am exposed to “white” people who assume b/c I am white that “I’m with them” and express exactly what you said. These people know Romney is a liar, know they might lose their mortgage deduction, know THEIR CHILDREN MAY BE SENT TO WAR, know that women’s rights are threatened, know that medicare, medicaide, and SS probably will be threatened, know that the wealthy will be given more tax cuts and they will pay for them, know that their young adult child will lose health insurance on their policies, and know that THEY are the 47% that Romney called slackers but yet they intend to vote for him…..why you ask….b/c his skin is black…..it’s sad but true.

        October 8, 2012 at 11:48 pm

You are partly right anniebella, it is helping him with some people but there are others who see the unfairness and know it is wrong. Most of the people in this mostly white state will vote for the President. I have noticed it is usually men who are soft in their support, not women. Don’t worry. We will win. I just had a conversation with my sister-in-law and we agreed that Mitt Romney is a bold faced liar. Actually our language was a bit more spicy than that. We are hopping mad and we and our kids will vote for the President. And so many of our friends and neighbors too. There will always be haters but there are many of us who slap them down when they do it.

      October 9, 2012 at 12:16 am

CEB, I came away with some of the same feelings as you did. I first noticed how lovingly POB held Mrs. Chavez hand in several photos. What deep respect for Mrs. Chavez and her age. I am sure he is always reminded of his loving grandmother during moments like this.

His speech brought tears to my eyes, because I recall some of the hard work that Mr. Chavez did during my stay in Cali. Plus there is just something so beautiful about POB as he speaks about bringing us together and fighting for great causes. The respect that he has for all people. Very touching cememony.

Yes, CEB, as I recall, Ms. Delores Huerta received the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in that ceremony at the WH along with Toni Morrison, Pat Summit, Sec. Albright and others. I remembered that one vividly because of some of the photos shown later with Toni Morrison who is one of POB’s favorite writers and his favorite book, “Beloved.” And Ms. Huerta is a great supporter of POB. She had a similar look when she received her award at the WH. Beautiful memories.HZ

This is my final comment on Pew.

Pew is, in general, a very reputable pollster. That doesn’t mean it’s infallible. It has the GOP at +1 in party ID among registered voters. That’s nonsensical, as every other pollster attests. Put simply, they fucked up. Others have pointed out that Pew is very flexible with letting voter ID fluctuate. This will be shown as an outlier as other pollsters rush into the field to confirm or deny the poll.

And, there’s this: Ari Fleischer—Bush’s press secy—said that, while tempting, Pew’s party ID seems implausible. Yes. Ari Fleischer.

Now, for what everyone is waiting for: tonight’s menu:

Seems to me like Ryan was perfectly willing to respond to the comment, but his handlers ended the interview, not Ryan. He sounded remarkably reasonable in his rhetoric…the question was valid, though: You can do that by cutting taxes?

      • October 8, 2012 at 7:12 pm

Yes. Ryan answered the question, his handlers ended it. The reporter asking whether cutting taxes will resolve crime problem is where it got interesting, but video doesnt really show Ryan in bad light

        • October 8, 2012 at 7:24 pm

Really? He looked like another whining bully – just like his buddy. He’s a scumbag. Good for the reporter!

          • October 8, 2012 at 8:46 pm

As a Wisconsinite, Dems have thought Ryan was a prissy little bully for a long time. And one who has not been seriously challenged. The boy who was awarded social security after his father died, and used it to get through college, is now against other people having such benefits. He worships Ayn Rand like an infatuated adolescent. Usually people become more realistic after they mature and face life challenges. Generally life humbles them. Not so with Ryan.

Why oh why, pray tell, are we allowing ourselves to be skilfully manipulated and punked by ‘them repugs’ and the msm, with their constant flaunting of the lies, the exaggerations and their obvious biases? Why? Why, people? The whole conversation today seemed to be about polls namely whose poll, which poll.. Aren’t polls merely samplings and the only poll that matters is THE POLL on 6/11? So what are we going to do if the polls say one thing in favour of Schittzoid Dumbney for the next month. Fight amongst ourselves daily as to who ,which pollster is + 2 or – 1,etc.. There are people who are doing this for us. ..let them!
Enough is enough. Could we stop and focus on what we the people’s more productive narrative should be, because as far as I am concerned giving focus to anything or anyone expands it/them, therefore, we the people should be focusing on our candidate in a positive and steady manner via the social media spoting his achievements, goodness and essentialness for this election, otherwise we will lose the moment, because of getting distracted with ‘their’ narrative.

    Per Wisconsin Soap Box Blog:

    http://wisoapbox.blogspot.com/2012/10/tonight-as-goes-janesville-on-pbss.html

Tonight, after months and months of waiting, the film “As Goes Janesville” premiers on PBS’s Independent Lens. This is the documentary that brought us the (in)famous Scott Walker video about “divide and conquer” and will bring the story of Paul Ryan’s favorite hometown political football to a whole new audience. I have tried to not look at too many (if any) of the previews, but from everything I hear it is an excellent documentary that takes a look at what the realities are in Wisconsin during the Great Recession.

I believe this is his way of saying, “Move along, nothing to see here.”

      • October 8, 2012 at 8:28 pm

His chance to win went from 21.6% to 24.4% because of the Pew poll – which oversampled Repubs and discounted those who vote Dem. Otherwise Romney’s “bounce” would be pretty much a thud. You ever seen a toddler try to dribble a ball?

      • 195 EricFive
        October 8, 2012 at 8:28 pm

He is saying that if you leave out the questionable Pew poll, PBO’s reelection chances would remain unchanged at 78.4%. If you count the questionable Pew poll PBO’s chance of reelection drops to 75.6%. That Pew poll has some funky crosstabs (even the Washington Post’s pollster raised red flags).

      • 203 hopefruit2
        October 8, 2012 at 8:31 pm

Just for reference, in 2008, voters age 50+ made up 43% of the total electorate.

So the fact that PEW now has voters age 50+ at 67% is a serious methodological flaw.

    • 204 EricFive
      October 8, 2012 at 8:21 pm

They “tailored” that poll to give the MSM headlines of proof Mitt’s big comeback. Why tinker with the GOP-weight of the poll in such a drastic manner that even the Washingon Post’s pollster is raising red flags? As HF points out why have 67% of those polled be 50 and above? The MSM wants to create the IMPRESSION that Mitt is an acceptable candidate, trying to play people like they are sheep. Please recognize the game being played and keep your spirits up. As a rule of thumb, always check the crosstabs of both positive and negative polls (or wait for an analysis from a trusted source like JeffersonObama).

With the previous voter suppression, the voting machine potential problems, and the lying to the voters and defense by the press, I worry manipulated polls could be an attempt to bring Romney close enough so voting going Mitt’s way would not seem suspicious. i pray I am just being paranoid.

I don’t understand why a pollster who has a good reputation would publish a poll with such a flawed sample !!??

  58. October 8, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Ok, it seems like I started something. So, a bit more information.

My pork is right now marinating in olive oil, soy sauce, and black pepper. Simple marinade, but delish.

I’m enjoying an unpretentious red table wine right now.

The veggies are from Fresh & Easy. I adore that place. (The pork is from there as well. And when out of a whim I did a search on where else their stores were located, I found 2 or 3 were in the hood! So the poorer citizens of L.A. have access to good quality food.)

And I changed from pasta to mashed taters.

    Carry on.

He is a drama queen. Let’s face it, since the Supreme Court upheld Obamacare, this campaign has gone very smoothly. Mitt had gaffe after gaffe and PBO just kept going forward. Some of PBO’s “supporters” got spoiled. Some were waiting for the 1st sign of trouble for the chance to make some noise and get some attention. The MSM wants us to believe the debate was a game changer. That explains this Pew poll with the funky crosstabs. I’m sure the onslaught of propaganda that followed the debate gave Mitt a little bump, but nothing to warrant the level of chicken littlism I am seeing today. There are two other Presidential debates and one VP debate. Acting like one debate “performance” is the end all be all is INSANE. Mitt will fuck up again soon. He can’t help it if his history is any indication.

Just got back from seeing a movie and happy hour with a friend. After catching up on what I missed this last 1/2 an hour, I’m glad I did get out the house and away from the intertubes.

Saw Looper today. I think I liked it. I really don’t know. It’s weird. The movie ended and I was like huh. That was good. I guess I appreciated the way it ended, I think.

I’m not sure how I felt about it, but I think that people should definitely see it…if that makes sense.

Anyway, have a good night guys. I’m out. I have 2 more days left on my 7 off and I’m probably gonna be offline until then.

    found this post.
Why is a person who lives on disability, a republican?

An acquaintance of mine lives on disability because she has MS. She’s been posting all sorts of repug crap – the same stuff you hear from Rush and the other repugs, like Obama cooked the job numbers – on facebook for all her friends to see. I finally had enough and posted something rude (like “shut up”) and of course I was de-friended.

Don’t people who depend on things like disability, and other benefits, realize they support the party that sees programs like that, as evil socialism? Even more, Ryan said he does not believe in “altruism”. Didn’t she hear about the Romney comments on entitlement for 47%? Is there a parallel universe out there? Am I dreaming? How can anyone be so stupid? (e.g. they vote against their own economic self interest). ARGH!!!!!

I don’t know who said this originally but it seems true to me…

The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn’t even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it.

Besides, after donating to the President’s campaigns and as many Congressional campaigns as I could, hot dogs are about it. Which makes me wonder about those people who are having gourmet menus. Time to cough up some more dough for the Dems guys and gals. 😉

Hey TODers, Just stopping in to share that I had a great time in Iowa this weekend canvassing. A group from my community has been making regular trips to Iowa from Illinois for the past few weekends. People were super friendly and responded overall very positively to our canvass. I decided last Friday to stay off social media and to stop watching Cable news for the next couple of weeks. From the sounds of things and the fact the trolls are popping up again, it appears that I made the right call. I always feel better when I am working on a ground anyway. Thanks Chips for continuing to offer a space of relative sanity on the web. I look forward to traveling to Iowa one more time before election day. Sending positive energy to all of you. Finally, I’d like to say that it appears that President Obama is on a fundraising trip out West for a couple of days. I’d like folks who are worried about daily polls to reflect on this. If the Campaign were panicking, would the President be in California today and tomorrow? Wouldn’t he be traveling like crazy, criss-crossing the swing states? Just something to think about…

From what I understand, this PPP poll was also based on polling taken on Thursday and Friday. PPP could have released their poll yesterday or Sat. I’m not sure why they waited until tomorrow. Are they trying to drag this thing out to get kicks? Is this a ratings grab for the liberal and conservative media alike? They all seem to be thoroughly enjoying the whole thing while some people are freaking out.

I also notice that the Obama camp doesn’t seem the least bit perturbed by any of this. They must be following their internal polling which tells them that the reported polls are BS.

Wow, I JUST LOVE OUR TEAM! The Obama Campaign is soooooo on the ball!

I typically just block any RWer drivel that happens to make its way into my Twitter TL. This one lady from AZ isn’t a follower of me, but apparently a tweet or two of mine came to her attention, so she’s felt the need to send me her BS. One of her mssives had a link to a video about some “bombshell” coming out from Washington Examiner (RW rag) “exposing the Obama campaign as accepting foreign contributions.” I got curious and looked it.

Went right over to http://www.BarackObama.com, under “Get The Facts” I went to the The Truth Team page, filled in the Report An Attack form, giving them a link to the youtube video. Did another form with a link to the Washington Examiner article.

Long time reader, first time poster.
Thank you to all for the calming thoughts regarding the Pew poll. I stopped in at the Laramie Wyoming OFA office tonight for some cheering up. The volunteers there basically told me the same thing–polls aren’t true indicators of what’s out there. They also told me that this campaign has the best ground game ever (EVER). I think that’s what he was saying basically.
Anyway, I read Andrew Sullivan’s post and would have to agree with the comments above regarding how he’s sort of losing it. In fact, I’m not sure I’ll continue visiting his blog–WAY too depressing.
I will tell you I have a pit in my stomach again. It was there until sometime last week (pre-debate) when I had heard that President O was ahead in 9 swing states, with commanding leads. Then the debate (we were driving home from vacation and both husband and myself were yelling at the car radio while dear 5 year old daughter wondered what on earth was up) and then hearing all the numbers being so wacky for Romney and I’m back to the feeling I had when the whole country was ga-ga over Sarah Palin.
I know. Calm down. Don’t pay attention to what the media is doing (they want a horse-race, neck and neck cause then they get the ratings and something to blather on about). Trust President Obama. But man, the thought of Romney winning the election makes me completely nauseous.
Thanks for listening all. I love this site, all of your comments and the general good feeling it engenders.
