Madison.com: The massive crowd of supporters started arriving before dawn Thursday and waited in a line that stretched forever up and down UW-Madison’s hilly Observatory Drive, all waiting to see President Barack Obama’s afternoon rally and praying that skies, gray and threatening throughout the morning, wouldn’t drop rain.

…. UW police estimated the crowd at 30,000, and what looked like thousands more, all with tickets, were denied admission after officials declared the event at capacity early in the afternoon….

Just checking if the old legs were still up to the challenge, TY! 😉 Seriously, was passing by, saw the open door and, before closing it again, wanted to make sure no stranger had wandered in. Gotta protect the home place, you know. 😆

TY, Dudette! I have to tell you, girl, I do a double-take almost every time I spot your new ‘do’, not to mention your new look. You look so..so.. different and so, so mah-va-lous! I’m almost tempted to ask for a referral to your new cosmetologist/coiffeur.

          A good friend suggested to me that I rest in a while this morning, and boy, am I glad I took her advice! I had to skip lunch as both take out soups I brought home were loaded with peppers, then after 3 hours in the dentist chair, I am worn out! I did enjoy the walk over and back to the office, about half an hour each way ~ the weather was just perfect! So, goodnight. I’m beat. {{{{{TOD}}}}}

Does anyone know how many turned out in Denver. I was there, but could not judge the numbers. I know the lines were long, snaking back and forth. It was really early and cold. I got up at 5 a.m. The President’s speech was great. The crowd was very supportive. The sound system wasn’t the best. It was hard to hear at times. Wow, Wis. is huge!

  3. October 4, 2012 at 8:26 pm

I want to apologize to those who were offended by me last night. My opinion about the debate has not changed, but I acknowledge it was a mistake to express it here, especially when all was so fresh. So, my apologies, and with that, peace.

    • October 4, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Hey BWD, no need to apologize AT ALL, every single PBO supporter who visits here is entitled to his or her opinion, and is entitled not to be abused for expressing it. I haven’t changed my view from last night either, but I am encouraged by the response and pushback today. You’re welcome to share your thoughts here any time at all, ANY TIME 😉

      ((((BWD)))) I heard you.

I was a little perplexed by the decision to not push back then I remembered when PBO went to the Republican retreat. That reminded me of the ‘shakedown’ of #BPOilSpill, Which made me think of his speech on race, which immediately made me think of #LyingRyan sitting in the front row when PBO addressed his newly unveiled budget, and his comments on Citizens United directed at the SC Justices at the SOTU address and the Bowles commission when Boehner smugly went to every camera crowing how he got 98% of what he wanted, to the 2nd stimulus during the lame duck session and Wall St Reform during the 99% protests.

And who can ever forget PBO calling ‘The Donald’ a Carnival Barker ever so sweetly to his face while knowing he just ordered the trickiest mission in the history of our military and thought to myself, “I’ll will trust and watch the chessmaster at work.”

Something about him smiling sweetly at his opponents that make me think he’s got this. I will stay focused and have faith in him and his team.

By the way I really appreciated how deranged Robme looked next to him, pundits be damned.

Here is what I know, President Obama is the deal. He is the stuff. I know for a fact to NEVAH underestimate him. This man is politically savvy and has bear-trap mind. I am not in the least bit worried about his losing anything. What Obama wants he will get. That is just the way it is. I will be tuning out these punidiots for awhile because they have lost their bloomin’ minds. They are not the President and they need to get a grip. Also, Willard is a weenie and so is Paulie. They are pure evil. However, I digress…First Lady Obama is the wind in President Obama’s sail. And as it is always said around these here parts “Chill the f*** out! I got this!” OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!!!

okay, I’ve always believed that Ed was one right turn away from a tea partier. He is what is known as a fair weather friend: there in good times, backstabber in bad times. It’s not surprising he would basically agree with Sununu. My advice, don’t watch. remember the lead up to the 2010 elections? didn’t he advise everyone to not vote because he was mad PBO didn’t do what he said? I don’t need people like Ed and some others contaminating my life and we as a party need to marginalize and remove these types of people from the party because in the long run, they are no good. they are like gangrene, festering away and spreading. We don’t have to be a party of yes men, but we can’t go up against the repukes while fighting the enemy within. who was it that said: ” a house divided against itself cannot stand”? Well a party full of kamikazes can’t survive.
ps- Amazing how Lincoln’s words ring true 154 years later?

      • October 4, 2012 at 8:58 pm

I don’t even watch him, I just wanted to see what guest he had on cosigning for him and caught that 90 seconds of that bullshit!

        • October 4, 2012 at 9:55 pm

Jay you saved me the bother of tuning in tonight. In fact, I watched the debate on C-span last night and after hearing the reactions of Maddow, Tweety and Ed, I didn’t watch their post debate show and decided to quit them altogether, again. I had sworn off them in 2010 but got sucked back in due to their faux support of the President. I am done, again.

Family, it’s possible to not only keep LyinRyan out of the VP chair, but he could be beaten out of his congressional seat as well! Wouldn’t that be SWEET? Let’s make it happen!! Democratic challenger, Rob Zerban needs our support.

    Here’s his website: http://www.robzerban.com/
Note there’s a petition there to get pressure on Chicken-shit Ryan to agree to a debate

Dudette, it would be a thing of glory if Zerban could take this thing. Wasn’t Ryan ahead by some thirty points to begin with. Maybe the people in his district are finally seeing the real Ryan behind the act he’s been playing.

  18. October 4, 2012 at 8:46 pm

This is my view today on the whole debate. This stealth, ninja president had a strategy and i think what we saw last night was just that. I think he planed it that way knowing the backlash that would come from doing so. Remember he’s a guy who takes risks. He’s also good at keeping things secret. Look at the killing of Bin Ladin.

The Obama campaign has something brewing and it’s going to be Romney’s goose that’s going to be cooked in the end.

What President Obama did last night was throw out the bait and Romney steped right in it and lapped it up.

Earlier, I emailed my friend a link to the article about Martin Sheen’s comments. She raised me five, and sent back more good news about Jim Cramer, which I’d like to share. (I think it was Jim Cramer whose elderly dad was recently told he couldn’t get his voter i.d. card because he didn’t have the proper documentation … after his state’s SOS saw that on CNBC, his dad all of a sudden got the card … and I believe Jim said too bad everybody’s son isn’t on TV, because how many others will this happen to … methinks Jimmy will be votin’ Obama!) Here’s the email response from my friend:

I like hearing my side championed eloquently by someone on my side as much as the next guy.

But what encourages me even more is what I just happened to see on today’s Jim Cramer Mad Money on the finance channel – a show whose audience is, I think, largely republican.

Under the show’s theme of offering advice on which stocks to buy or sell, Cramer just took apart Romney’s comments one by one, saying for example, if you think Romney is going to win and you bought HMO and pharmaceutical stocks today because he’s going to repeal Obamacare you made a big mistake. Obamacare is actually far more profitable for those companies…and then he went on to explain why. He did that for Romney’s position on Dodd-Frank and bank stocks, for the criticism of $90B invested in alt energy and alt energy jobs forecast, etc.

He also managed to work in that Romney had reversed himself last night on just about every topic and he pointed out that if Romney meant what he’s now saying it could have bad consequences for investors because a position closer to Obama’s but without the parts that make the arithmetic work are undoable. This of course brings you back to “uncertainty” as to what Romney would actually do, and that, as we all know, is the one word business hates most.

Since this was clearly not a case of preaching to the choir (not that their spirits don’t have to be kept up), nor was it a case of a known liberal politico offering this info, I found it one of the most surprising and potentially useful post-debate TV commentaries.

    • October 4, 2012 at 9:11 pm

Wow. That’s great info. I honestly thought investors would know this about Obamacare already. Baffles me how some business people let their ideology trump sound advice.

      • 95 jackiegrumbacher
        October 4, 2012 at 10:01 pm

Go brooklyn, I think investor brains have a hard time admitting anything that might favor the president. It has to be hammered into their consciousness.

    • October 4, 2012 at 9:21 pm

This is very susrprising. And fascinating.

Dems are usually better for business, because Dems take a more holistic approach whereas Repubs are more likely to focus on their friends in high places, which is inherently damaging to the economy as a whole.

    • 97 dudette9t9
      October 4, 2012 at 9:24 pm

Good. Let’s hope that slides more Republicans into the Obama column!

  25. 98 Carolyn
    October 4, 2012 at 8:58 pm

To me many of the comments have been on style, not substance. The President was low key last night, which was fine, just not what his adherents wanted. We have also learned that just before this debate, he handled a NATO conference call about the trouble between Turkey and Syria. Now that is serious stuff. After that, he must have been totally disgusted with Romney and his lies, and his total noncomprehension about what the presidency involves. Sometimes the president’s face registered disbelief at Romney’s antics, and that’s what they were.
We know that Romney is the total narcissist, and he shows it every time he opens his mouth. President Obama is NOT one. He has normal ups and downs, and real events affect him in real time, in genuine emotional ways like us. After that phone call, only a sociopath or a narcissist could have acted in a shrieking way. He had a lot on his mind, but he made his points. I respect him more because he did what he did and acted the way he did. Romnehy did not WIN anything…..he just yelled louder, and certain shallow minds considered that winning.
Look at the crowds for the President today, compare them with Romney’s. Who WON last night???!!!

    • 99 jacquelineoboomer
      October 4, 2012 at 9:12 pm

Well said, Carolyn. The American people won, if they’re smart enough to see all that lying from Romney and all that class and substance from President Obama and re-elect Obama-Biden 2012!

Agreed. And though I know Jim is your cousin, I was not pleased with the way I understand him to have handled the so-called debate. But it’s not personal. Things are more complicated than they appear to us, the viewing audience.

if you talk to your cuz, maybe you could ask what he thought about mittbot saying he would fire him and big bird right there in front of millions, and while giving his little smirk and chuckle at the same time. i thought people were being a little harsh on lehrer, since he like our president were clearly the only adults there, and by at least trying to keep mittbot on topic and on time, but eventually giving up rather than have a shouting match with him, viewers got to see what a true bully and spoiled child mittbot really is.

any criticism directed at lehrer or our president is wasted energy and time, and a distraction from the real task at hand – destroying republican/mittbot’s ideology once and for all!

      • 102 Obama Grandmama
        October 4, 2012 at 9:49 pm

A pattern of Mitt’s bullying is forming before our eyes. I am sure there are many more in his life than the making fun of and chasing and holding down and cutting the gay boy’s hair. Also there is the leading by the arm of a blind teacher into a door to get laughs from his classmates. He also dressed up in a state patrol man’s uniform to leave some girls stranded thinking the driver of the car they were in was arrested. Then there was the tantrum a few weeks ago refusing to go on unless he got his own way at the Latino tv station live interview. Then there was the bullying of the moderator at the debate.

On the lighter side, my second son (32 yrs old) has two kids one is almost 2 yrs old and the other is 4 mos old. He emailed me a little while ago with a short message about Mitt Romney being the first presidential candidate that wanted to kill Big Bird. He said it was too bad two year olds couldn’t vote and mentioned preschool t-shirts with a big bird and a message on it from a preschooler might be good. We were mulling around messages and I told him I’d put it on the blog to see what ideas it generated here.

These words you typed Mag is precisely what most of the president’s supporters wanted. Someone at work told me today that PBO did what he did to seem above it all, to come off presidential. are you suggesting president obama didn’t realize mittbot is a liar coming into the debate? this wasn’t difficult to predict. do you not think president obama was keenly aware that mittbot would do exactly what he did, like anyone here anticipated would happen, and yet president obama chose to handle in the way he did? perhaps president obama knows exactly what he’s doing, you know, the first african american president that got there with his smarts and strategies?

All your scenerio would have resulted in is a shouting match of “you’re a liar no you are a liar”. That too would have been spun by the MSM as a win for Mitt because it would be spun as PBO losing his cool or Mitt getting under PBO’s skin. That is why debates usually have moderators who keep things under control, which was not the case last night. I trust PBO’s judgment and I also realize that there are THREE debates not one. Look back on all the unnecessary hand wringing and second guessing that PBO’s “supporters” have engaged in over the years. Most of the problems arose b/c PBO did not follow one of their preferred timetables (i.e., he lost this news cycle, he is not responding fast enough, he is losing the messaging war, etc). I accept the fact that PBO is a much better politician than I am. I wish others would come to realize this fact too.

This + a bajillion. Been saying the exact thing to folks in my circle over the last 24 hours. It would have been 90 minutes of I know you are but what am I, that’s not what I said, yes it is, no it isn’t, you’re twisting my words, ad nauseum. With the end result being no one having a clearer understanding what either of their plans were for moving the country forward. Right now, it’s still Mittens and only Mittens that no one has any clearer grasp on what he stands for because he lied and flip flopped again.

just watched the first 10 minutes of our president’s talk in madison today, and it’s clear proof of the rope-a-dope strategy in full force. president obama is very animated and completely on point using all of mittbot’s answers from last night, to imply mittbot is a liar and airhead with no details in his supposed “plans.” he’s and his team obviously decided to embed the two themes in their messaging.

of course, there are still “allies” of the president, even in this thread again, saying president obama is screwing up, yet again, and never seem to acknowledge the rope-a-dope strategy and how effective it is. i always wonder with these “allies” how they’d react if president obama ever actually did make a big mistake some day. how much caterwauling would they be doing then, when they’re already freaking out about president obama successfully executing his gameplan?

I wonder how they would feel if someone in their personal life treated them the way they treat PBO (you are great, handsome and smart so long as you do and say what I want when I want you to). If I’m not moved or blown away by one of your “performances”, I will slam you and go into great detail about how much better I would have done in your place. I think they really do think they are smarter than PBO.

          EricFive,
I watched the scenario you just mentioned happen in 1980 with the reelection campaign of President Carter. The dems didn’t stick together, primaried President Carter (Sen. Ted Kennedy,) let Ronald Reagan’s campaign lies go unchallenged, remained docile while the MSM savaged President Carter about his failed attempt to rescue the Iranian hostages, and the end result cost us big economically, and especially, in the area of alternative energy development. President Carter had installed solar panels on the roof of the WH, and Reagan took them down as soon as he took office. I will always believe that the dems not sticking together to support President Carter opened the door for trickle down economics, the death grip Big Oil and Big Business have on our government, and that it allowed for the expansion of the role of religious fundamentalists in our government.

These people who are having child-like temper tantrums because the President did not act like a jackass on drugs like Romney did, are like fair weather friends, I agree with you, they wanted the President to act ugly and aggressive like Romney. But instead President Obama acted like the dignified man he is. I don’t see why his so-called supporters cannot understand that.

From FL to CO the ugly Repub mindset is once again in full display. This time it is a family-owned Mexican restaurant
in Denver that refused to allow a Romney campaign event be held at their restaurant. Since this story broke, they have received
hate mail, cancelled reservations, and even death threats. They are Morman so apparently the Romney campaign thought they could get this
Latino family to look good behind them and instead they have brought misery down on this poor family’s heads.

I am very conscious of Chips admonition that we not solicit for anything but OFA for the remainder of the election season
and I agree with it. BUT we can kill two birds with one stone by doing a food bomb to the OFA office near this restaurant
while helping out these people. I suspect they do not deliver but there is an OFA office just 2 miles away and I suspect
someone would be happy to pick up the food. I intend to call both the OFA office and the restaurant tomorrow. If anyone would
like to join me in this endeavor, let me know.

    The restaurant info is:
    Rosa Linda’s Mexican Cafe
    2005 West 33rd Avenue Denver, CO 80211
    (303) 455-0608
    The owner is Mr Aguirre

The OFA office that is 2 miles away is:

    OFA
    3867 Tennyson StDenver, CO 80212-2157
    (720) 296-3447

It would be nice for these people to know that not everyone is cut from the same cloth that these nasty Repubs demonstrate
    routinely.

    • October 4, 2012 at 9:44 pm

Wow, thanks so much for this information. Let us know how it goes and whether OFA is game.

So, I asked her what time they open tomorrow – 9a Mountain Time.

Then, asked if I called and ordered $50.00 of food and paid via my credit card, could they coordinate with the OFA office near by to get the food to the office and she said they’d be delighted.

I’ll definitely be calling tomorrow morning 🙂

Bob, let me check with the OFA office first, I suspect they will be running a canvassing operation on Saturday and that might work better for them. Also, let’s do this together. For a bulk food purchase I think we will get more for our money if we order $100 of food in whatever assortment they want to put together. If you’re agreeable, we can each call with our cc numbers Sat morning. Thanks for your help with this. It really bothers me that people are punished for exercising their right to keep the Romney campaign off their premises.

  50. October 4, 2012 at 10:14 pm

Booman’s take on the same poll:
“So, again with the caveat that this is just one poll, I don’t think Obama did as badly last night as many people assume. And every women I talked to or overheard today had something negative to say about Romney’s performance. Key words were: rude, bully, condescending, disrespectful, and overbearing.

The comment about Big Bird is going to have a lasting impact, too. And the fact-checkers will be putting their articles into every nook and cranny of the media universe (that is not completely controlled by the right wing). A debate is not won or lost the night it occurs. It is won in the days that come immediately after. ”
    http://goo.gl/TbTOl

Remember Romney needs to improve his standing with women and he did exactly the opposite.

I don’t go on Hufpo often but I saw this post by Hank10303 and thought it was briliant:

Debate: 1. To consider something; deliberate.
    2. To engage in argument by discussing opposing points.

By the very definition of the word “debate” I’m having trouble with this narrative that Romney won the “Presidential Debate”. If the object is to discuss opposing views, and one of the debaters misinforms, mischaracterizes or blatantly lies about their respective position and assumes one entirely different from what initiated the “debate”, then clearly that person didn’t win the debate because he/she never discussed their respective “opposing points”; but those of positions that, by previous proclamation, are different and/or misleading on the points he/she previous stated. Then by the words very definition Romney could not have won the debate on the merit of his positions, with regards to the issues discussed. Did Romney give a good performance – yes. But, the responsibilities of the office of the President of these United States is not a talent show. That the media is now part taking in the dumbing down of America, again; is disturbing. That all media seem to be allowing the republican party to redefine what constitutes a quality debate has nothing to do with the content of the discussion, but only the performance of the participants is astounding. Especially when one considers that practically every journalist has had some form of higher education and several have had debates themselves. Shouldn’t you all know better and aren’t they condoning lying as a means to having the best “performance”?

    • 258 EricFive
      October 4, 2012 at 11:07 pm

Thanks for sharing this Donna. I agree. The MSM decided it was going to declare Mitt the “winner” regardless of what transpired during the actual debate. This fact is borne out by CNN’s bogus telephone poll that only polled southern white men over 50 and this new aversion to calling out a politician for flip flopping and lying during a Presidential debate. They are changing the rules (moving the goalposts) to help Mitt’s floundering campaign.
