Yes, Lawry was spot on in his analysis. I didn’t watch any of the so-called pundits after the debate….never do…..I think I’m as intelligent as they are and can make up my own mind! But he said he didn’t even guess, which is what he says all the pundits do….they just play a guessing game. He mentioned several times when he had been oh so wrong, and he doesn’t do that guessing any more. This is not a sport, like the media likens it to. We will know who “won” the debates on election night.
I also loved the bull charging the matador analogy…..great! Yes, the matador gets the bull in the end, but in the meantime he dances and irritates the bull very gracefully……an apt analogy???

I just saw it posted somewhere too LL.
The guy has NO SHAME WHATSOEVER!!!!!! So, he wanted so badly PBO to bring it up yesterday because he already had his canned response. Great that POTUS did not give him the opening and now he had to go on Hannity to say he was wrong. YA RIGHT!! You got caught buster, in all your heartless, insensitive glory ! I hope Team Obama cuts a devastating ad with this.
Romney must be one of the most craven, coreless, soulless politician out there. I swear, we make fun of the Bachmans and Akins of this world but at least even when they are completely wrong in about just everything, they believe the crap they spew. They have convictions.
Romney just says stuff because it sounds good at the time , depending on the audience, which wind blows, if his tie is too tight, if his hair has not the right kind of gel, I mean it is disgraceful.
This is going to be very catty but how can his wife stand him, when he’s soo untrustworthy??? Does he mean anything he says, ever ??

That freak out last night was unsettling. I watched the debate on C-Span, thought it was a PBO win based on Mitt admitting to Voucher Care, his constant lying, refusal to provide specifics and amped up demeanor (admittedly, I was viewing the debate as a policy debate not a shouting match). Then I turned to MSNBC and they were OVERTHETOP in their disappointment with PBO. Very theatrical (sad and sullen faces, storm clouds overhead). Then I came here to find the same end of the world dramatics. There is no way to debate a liar without looking like a fool yourself, as anyone who has ever had the misfortune of dealing with a liar knows all too well. There are three acts to this play. PBO has earned my trust and confidence. I will give him the leeway to handle this situation the way he sees fit.

        October 5, 2012 at 12:20 am

I had the exact same experience. I changed the channel to Current, basically the same thing. I had to talk two of my friends off the ledge. I tweeted to several pundits, that I didn’t want to ever hear anymore whining about lack of ‘substance’ in political discourse. It was a shameful #MediaFAIL.

Romney was obnoxious. He bullied an old man (lehrer) and was rude, constantly interrupting, and told one lie after another. When pundits start pronouncing him the ‘winner’. I was ‘shocked’ but not surprised. What kind of message was this? Personally, I think it’s equivalent to Charlie Sheen ‘winning’–mostly NOT.

The tide has already started to turn. All day long the story was, Romney Won, Obama sucked, Romney Lied, Romney lies debunked.
PBO was awesome on the stump. Lots of great soundbites. Romney’s arrogant minions made ugly statements, Republicans began gloating and any thinking person had to realize that the Romney victory was an empty one.

Trust PBO and his team. They’ve got this.

You got it, Zekke. I heard soundbite after soundbite from President Obama on Stephanie Miller’s show this morning, and one after another it was clear that President Obama scored multiple victories with almost every statement he made. He was dignified, focused, on point. I heard an “undecided” on NPR (in the two minutes that I listened to it today) criticize the President by saying that “he said what he says in his ads”. Maybe some day she’ll understand the stupidity of her asking that the President say something different than he says in his ads. I guess she’ll be voting for Romney – who says something different every time he opens his mouth.

Anyway – reading the transcript is the best way to see who said what, and where the substance was in that farce of a debate last night.

Eric, smart people all over saw and felt exactly what you did…

A debate with a calm, thoughtful President Obama and the ridiculous freak out that ensued…

The world has truly gone mad…

As for those ‘supporters’ who sink into an immediate depression – which they unfortunately insist on sharing with complete strangers everywhere – while shrieking nonsensical arm chair quarterback gloomlick, may I suggest some serious therapy…

There’s just no way the over the top end of the world public display of ‘disappointment’ at things you mostly know nothing about, can be simply attributed to ‘support’ for President Obama – who ironically ends up being at the receiving end of your glib disrespect…

A grown man perfectly capable, tested and proven able is reduced to some kindergartner stature by complete strangers who claim to support him, but who always feel the need to keep him proving himself and to keep them constantly entertained and wholly on their own terms – or else…

    Mitt’s changing his tune again…..http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/romney-on-47-percent-i-said-something-thats

Mitt Romney’s secretly taped comment about “47 percent” of Americans never made an appearance in last night’s presidential debate. But on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox tonight, Mitt Romney was asked what his response would have been had the debate moderator Jim Lehrer, or President Obama, confronted the candidate about the tape.

Here’s his answer, portions of which likely would have been prepared ahead of the debate:

“Well, clearly in a campaign with hundreds if not thousands of question and answer sessions, now and then you’re going to say something that doesn’t come out right. In this case I said something that’s just completely wrong. And I absolutely believe however that my life has shown that I care about the 100 percent and that has been demonstarted throughout my life. This whole campaign is about the 100 percent. When I become president it’ll be about helping the 100 percent.”

In a press conference shortly after the tape was released by Mother Jones, Romney took a different position. He then said that while his comments were “not elegantly stated” and “off the cuff,” they were still “a message which I’m going to carry and continue to carry, which is look, the president’s approach is attractive to people who are not paying taxes because my discussion about lowering taxes isn’t as attractive to them.”

    hey Mitt….FU!

    • October 4, 2012 at 11:17 pm

As a few of us have been saying, it wouldn’t be long before Mitt stuck his foot in his mouth again.

When did the 47% story break? At least a couple, three weeks, right? And TODAY he disavows what he said? How absurd does that make him look?

    • October 5, 2012 at 1:06 am

The fact that Romney felt compelled to walk this back shows how out of touch he is with mainstream Americans. He said what he said, he meant what he said, and now that he realizes how damaging it has been, he wants to walk it back. No frigging deal. He has to learn that you don’t sh*t all over people, smear it all over them, and think they’re going to thank you for doing it. He should have learned this by seeing the last Latino poll showing how his support among them has collapsed to less than 25%. His “self deportation” comment, which he made with a smug smile on his face, cost him BIG. He tried to remedy that by having his Spanish speaking son appeal to Latinos. Sorry, but Latinos aren’t stupid and neither are other Americans. We know exactly how he feels about us, and for most of us, we know if he’s the next POTUS, he’d feel that he is only president to others like himself. Romney now has a reputation as an habitual liar, early voting has begun, PBO is leading in the swing states, and he’s trying to walk back his ugly comment about the 47%. He can walk it back, but that doesn’t mean we have to believe him. He’s a colossal asshole if he thinks we’re that stupid. It disgusts me that he thinks he can lie his way out of this one. He knew he’d need a majority of votes to win when he made the statement, but he showed zero remorse. I see this fake regret as another attempt to appeal to independents. Message to Romney: Sorry, buddy, you lost many independents as a result of that debate the pundits are saying you “won” last night because, in general, our MSM is composed of some sorry bast*rds, the same sorry bast*rds who didn’t open their damn mouths to inform Americans that there were no WMDs in Iraq and no need to invade the country.

While these sorry ass pundits and journalists sit on their asses and lie, let’s make an agreement to go after them on Twitter, along with sorry, lying ass Romney and Ryan, and continue to donate, get out the vote, and win this thing. If there’s one thing I learned from my dearly departed parents, it’s that actions speak louder than words.

And by PBO’s not bringing up the 47 percent last night, specifically (although he brought up the framework), today Rombo had to bring it up – and say it was wrong – all by himself on FOX, which no normal person watches.

“But do you know who is going to refute Mitt Romney’s bullshit? We are. In the voting booth.”

The President’s approval rating went up 4 or 5 pts right after the debate. Also, there was over 30,000 who showed up today to see the President in Wisconsin. And that does not count those that did not get in the stadium, the overflow. So all these ‘fair-weather Democrats’ who turned on him should take note. The President was the winner in many of our opinions .

Sounds like Limbaugh’s new meme is the old Karl Rove tactic of accuse the opposition of your side’s weakness. The silver spoon theme fits Romney and is implausible for PBO. They keep trying these smears that don’t quite fit. The trickle down government zinger is the same kind of thing based on Dems criticism on Reagan’s theory which is still in play with the GOP today.

        • 101 EricFive
          October 5, 2012 at 12:13 am

Same as when McCain was calling Sen. Obama an “elitist”. This from a guy who did not know how many homes he owned. “Elitist” was code for uppity. This new line of attack also combines that Rove tactic with a racist component. Sinunu was on TV calling PBO “lazy” and “not very bright”. Now they are saying everything is handed to PBO (I guess he is part of the 47% now). George Will said that the only reason PBO is winning is because he is black (although I must admit he has a point, judging from all our prior black Presidents). We are dealing with some sick hateful assholes. The alacrity with which the MSM embraces these racist GOP memes and talking points should trouble all, but surprise no one.

Catholic Democrats are hosting “The Catholic VP Debate House Party and Conference Call” on Oct. 11. According to Catholic Democrats, “For the first time in American history, two Catholic candidates on the presidential ticket will debate each other. Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) will have the opportunity to speak to the American public about their vision for the future of the country.”

This is a banner idea for Catholics to come up with, and almost as good as having Sister Simone debate Paul Ryan herself (and almost as fun for me, a Catholic, as having her represent the Nuns on the Bus on the same Democratic National Convention stage as Archbishop Dolan, ’cause she tricked him into it; i.e., he had accepted first to give the Benediction and agreed he wouldn’t endorse any candidate or position)!

Some Catholics who vote Republican really need to be reminded of what this group of Dems is calling, “The Catholic Vice Presidential Debate: An Historic Moment – Two World Views of the Catholic Social Justice Tradition and Public Policy,” because it’s NOT the Republican tradition or their current policy to care in the slightest about social justice. If interested, visit http://www.catholicdemocrats.org.

Before I say goodnight and a Big thank you to our beautiful Chips, I would like to share something so special.

I did a little phone banking part of the day and have another one on Sat. Gracious people. However, when I was speaking with one person, she was so elated about how she felt that POB will win this. We were speaking about Medicare, and she shared about her senior years and wishing that she could help in some other ways.

I shared with her a couple of ideas, and she was so impressed that I thoughts she was capable of making that something special happen. I shared with her about our family here and how I got started by coming here in the beginning. Then I shared how the young people here were so kind, intelligent, compassionate, very supportive of POB and shared with me so kindly.

She asked if I was timid about working to help being that I am a senior. I replied, “No, I am not, but the family here got behind me and encouraged me to reach some of my goal and step out of the box.” One of those stepping out of the box was being able to start a grassroots FR Page. Remember I started at $200.00. Meta, cookemom, and amk among others encouraged me to dress up my page, walked me through with some suggestions, and told me not to worry, but go for it. So I did, and when I share with friends and some family members, they are so happy for me.

The lady I spoke with today said that she is going to try the phone calling because she is home and she felt that she could use some of her time to make these calls to help us get over the top. She thanked me and said that she was so encouraged by talking with me today. So, you see TOD family, with your smiles coming my way daily, especially when my pain is trying to shut me down, you all lift me up and help me to go on.

Now with 26 days away from my birthday, I have decided that I would like to see my final goal on my FR Page reach $2644.00 You all know how there has to be a meaning for me behind most of this. Well I decided 26 days before my birthday, so 2+6 =8. Two terms for POB and the 44 means # 44th president, and 44 could be 4+4=8. $ 2644.00 will work for POB and for me and my TOD family because amk, cookemon, meta and all of you guided me along and accepted this little senior to join you. And I must say, you all with my beautiful Chips give me sooooooooooo much love and hope to keep fighting with you to make this re-election happen. So thank you so much for your love, joyfulness attitudes, intellectual minds, and family love. You do can’t imagine how much I love all of you. Thank you and thanks for allowing me to lift another person’s heart today. (((((((( I love you Chips and my TOD Family.))))))))))) I love keylime pie, so keep those coming for my birthday, please. Teasing. Love you all so much. My FR page

Back from work. Worked 13 hours today. A very long day but it kept my mind from the debates and the dumb media narrative. A friend of mine who is an PBO supporter, supported him before a lot of people knew his name really in 2004 and even some what before then told me that PBO clearly won the debate. He said the first debate is usually the prep area where people get to know the candidates and much of the time Romney kept on being disrespectful and rude thoughout most of the debate and seemed to be failing with desperation. This is his take on the debates and he still can’t figure out how Romney won when he had no substance whatsoever.

    • 145 EricFive
      October 5, 2012 at 1:06 am

Jeff the MSM would have declared Mitt the winner no matter what. They are really over playing their hand by saying how horrible the debate was for PBO, which confirms my hunch that the MSM is full of mitt. The debate was a draw at worst. Polling shows that Independents did not enjoy Mitt’s “performance”. Events like the “47% comment” and the “Libya gaffe” forced the MSM to stop carrying Mitt’s water and report on his nonsense. They have been praying for a mistake by PBO so they could pounce and viewed the debate as their golden opportunity. I recommend anyone who has not actually seen the debate to watch it. It was not a bad debate by PBO. It was an economic policy debate after which noone watching can decipher what Mitt;s economic policy will be. Mitt was incoherent, beligerent and dishonest. PBO was calm, cool, informative and Presidential. Don’t believe the MSM/PL/GOP hype.

    • 147 nathkatun7
      October 5, 2012 at 1:30 am

Jeff, I too worked last night and missed the debate. I made sure to watch the re-play on C-Span. After watching, my assessment of the debate was exactly the same as your friend’s assessment. I think the media was already primed to spin this debate in favor of Romney. Romney just gave them what the media always crave the most: pure sensationalism. It doesn’t matter that Romney lied and acted like a bully. What matters is that he was loud, disrespectful, and aggressive while lying to the country. I’ve said it before, but I will say it again, corporate media in the United States are undermining democracy. How in the world do you declare a presidential candidate a winner who lied about almost everything in that debate? What’s the use of the media if they can’t educate people about the truthfulness of people aspiring to lead the country? Even in boxing, judges don’t judge fights on the basis of who threw the most punches even though those punches may have been erratic punches that the opponent defended effectively. Nor do they evaluate fights on the basis of who is the loudest trash talker of the two opponents. Rather, judges in Boxing are more focused on the punches thrown that really landed against the opponent. From watching the debate, I never saw one instance where Romney truthfully challenged President Obama’s policies and future agenda. Not one! Yes he trash talked all the time and threw erratic punches based on blatant lies, but he never landed one effective punch against the President. To those who think I am biased, I challenge them to show me an instance where Mitt Romney, without lying blatantly, landed an effective punch against President Obama’s policies. So why is he the winner?

He is a very dishonest man…

The expressions on his face at each point is so damning…

Mitt Romney never puts his hands in his pocket…feel free to search through and you’ll find that to be true…

Which is why the hand in pocket pose is not only odd, but unusual for an already awkward fella…

The video that shows him hurriedly return to retrieve the papers from the podium at the end of the debate, is also damning…

He folds the papers, fumbles nervously as he tries to stuff in his suit pocket, fails, then reflexively tries to hide it behind his back…

He then hands it to his son, crook jnr, who slickly stashes it away in his suit inner pocket…

      Yes. He. Cheated.
A s much as he lies, why wouldn’t he cheat?

I am so glad that I went straight to bed and did not listen to all the negative results. But I did hear Diane Sawyer mention that Romney walked back to gather his papers as I clicked the debate off. I though how odd as his family walked up on stage. Why would you turn around to collect your papers if they were notes about the debate? That was probably the most work he has done in his life gathering his cheat sheet. It was not necessary, I thought, how rude. He could have waited until all the hugs were over.

What has bothered me all day is all the lies, bullying, disrespect, loud shouting from a Bishop…..a bishop was considered a “win” by MSM, and others who calls themselves Chrisitans. Who will probably go to chruch or their place of worship in a couple of days and sit there complacent, comfortable with themselves knowing they had an opportunity , an obligation to once again report the truth…. they did not.

Thank you, Mr. President for your courage standing tall in the grace that is upon you, courageously and bravely for all of us. Even sometimes when we are fearful, do not understand the big picture, give in to our emotions and get weary. You are still waking up fighting for us, going to sleep thinking about us.

We are still hopeful. We still believe in change. We will move FOWARD.
Thank you, Chips. G ood looking out, Dudette with the music.

It seems from what Romney has said since he was willing the President to mention the 47% – the President knows alot more than the pundits – that’s why he is the President.

Mitt looked like an old rich white man – with way too much time on his hands. He rarely talks the talk and has never walked the walk.

    From the AP:

A film dramatizing the death of Osama bin Laden will debut next month on the National Geographic Channel, two days before the presidential election.

The channel says it will air “Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden,” distributed by The Weinstein Co., on Sunday, Nov. 4.

Company co-chairman Harvey Weinstein is a prominent fundraiser for President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.

National Geographic Channel President Howard T. Owens said Thursday that the film’s air date is unrelated to politics and was chosen to help promote the start of the channel’s fall season.

    Paging Peter King! LOL!

Just like to comment post-debate. I didn’t watch it live but saw parts of it posted here. I thought PBO was thoughtful, honest, dignified and above all PRESIDENTIAL. Mitt Romney on the other hand came off as a spoiled, entitled, mendacious kindergarten bully trying to impress people by being loud obnoxious and domineering. I certainly know who I would be comfortable with answering a 3 a.m. call. (Clue – NOT a blustering idiotic bully boy!)
I was having a talk with my father who is a staunch conservative and not really a supporter of PBO, after reading a vile article in the daily fail. Even my father thought that Romney would be a disaster for the whole world if he got in. His actual words were that he was bullying and needed to shut up and give the moderator and President Obama a chance to speak.

I can not believe that Romney’s garbage will hold any sway with sane minded people and I have no worries about PBO’s election chances. Those who support Romney will never change their minds no matter what he does or says so they are not a loss to PBO. All I know is that I will do EVERYTHING I can to help get this wonderful President re-elected. Last night I spent a good couple hours on the phone to some of my friends in the US (one in Florida) and they are more than fired up for this election.

Keep the faith and stay fired up and together we will move FORWARD!

“No. 1,” declared Mitt Romney in Wednesday’s debate, “pre-existing conditions are covered under my plan.” No, they aren’t — as Mr. Romney’s own advisers have conceded in the past, and did again after the debate.

Was Mr. Romney lying? Well, either that or he was making what amounts to a sick joke. Either way, his attempt to deceive voters on this issue was the biggest of many misleading and/or dishonest claims he made over the course of that hour and a half. Yes, President Obama did a notably bad job of responding. But I’ll leave the theater criticism to others and talk instead about the issue that should be at the heart of this election.

What Mr. Romney did in the debate, in other words, was, at best, to play a word game with voters, pretending to offer something substantive for the uninsured while actually offering nothing. For all practical purposes, he simply lied about what his policy proposals would do.

    • October 5, 2012 at 7:28 am

It’s evident our Team expected a Debate, not a used car salesman. Me thinks, Robney can’t play that song again, the President will be Coached accordingly. I also think all this Criticism of the Debate, is way over the top with very little criticism on Robney and the lies. Krugman finally did that.

It was an uncommon moment for Mr. King, the Tea Party firebrand who for the last decade has threshed his opponents like a combine through corn. This time around, he is in the unfamiliar and highly uncomfortable position of defending his House seat against an aggressive, well-known Democrat with a lot of outside money supporting her bid.

I hope that vilsack beats the shite out of this lying sack of pos.
