Wow, I knew the Romney backers would sink low, but I honestly didn’t expect it to be this low.

No words.

If you’re on twitter, go read Joy Reid’s (@TheReidReport) timeline. She breaks down what a fantastic speech then Sen. Obama gave in 2007.

does safari have google bookmarks support? Firefox doesn’t, and it’s annoying me.

          October 2, 2012 at 10:14 pm

I don’t really know, LL, I just use the bookmarks on the iPad, and that is too easy for words.

            October 2, 2012 at 10:19 pm

However, thinking as I type (should think first I suppose) I guess what I see in the task bar at the top of the page is what Safari is about, and all I need to do is (tap) diminish the current page, (tap) open a new page, then (tap) open bookmarks and scroll, then (tap), I get there pretty fast. (well, except when the blog gets to around 250+ comments, then all hell breaks loose while loading, and everything jumps up and down, like a wild por-tay at amk’s when he’s had too many cheesy puffs with his Bombay Sapphire!) By (tap), I mean a lli do is use a light touch of my finger to talk to the iPad.

            • October 2, 2012 at 10:22 pm

Right, I have a Windows machine, and Apple is no longer making Safari for Windows. That’s fine; I found Google Bookmarks support for Firefox, so all is good.

okay, I saw the video they’re talking about earlier… good grief, that was wonderful, the way he talked about Katrina- and how it also brought out the best in people.. how those students could choose to basically change the world.. And so drudge is calling this divisive? lol… these people are so crazy I am at a loss for words to describe their amount of crazy.

A speech from 2007 that he gave at a Black church. He gave an uplifting and inspiring speech. Politico reported on that same speech back in 2008. The speech was given to open press. This speech had been on Youtube since 2007. There is nothing hidden or secretive about it. In fact, many people who are now seeing for the first time LOVE it!

I thought it was the speech at Hampton University. It doesn’t matter, POTUS/Senator Obama has been consistent and superb in every speech he’s ever given.. even back in college.

The kooks have tried every single thing for 5 years to prevent us from voting for Barack Obama, to divide this country by race, by fear, by hate. By taking our votes from us. They are dredging the bottom of the river AGAIN.. and they will still lose. what utter pigs.

There are some masquerading as humans, but we are still unable to prove to them that beneath the skin, there is NO DIFFERENCE: muscle, sinew, bone, blood, all the same. May they all die out quickly, the Earth will be a better place when they are gone.

    • October 2, 2012 at 10:11 pm

It’s a lovely speech, quite moving with, as is typical with #PBO, a true story that serves as a source of analogy that he weaves into the entire speech. I had never seen it, but I’ll not forget it and will certainly share it.

thanks Bob, I had not seen this speech- it was beautiful… I too love the way he wove his story of the baby & the bullet throughtout to impact his point. He’s just so remarkable – consistently so. Can’t see what the hoopla is & don’t even care… but real glad it brought this speech to all of us šŸ™‚

        • October 2, 2012 at 10:38 pm

Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did, sheri. It’s a keeper, for sure. And, the portion of it about Iraq and Katrina are so moving and in hearing him in that speech I had an even deeper appreciation of how quickly he responded to the BP catastrophe and how much he wanted to be able to say, finally, WELCOME HOME to all the troops after ending the Iraq war.

          • 121 theo67
            October 3, 2012 at 12:32 am

Excellent point about how much he wanted to welcome the troops back home. He really cares. This speech, above everything I’ve seen from him about Iraq, really showed me how much he abhorred that illegal war, and how determined he was to bring it to an end as quickly, and as safely as possible. He was so passionate in this part of the speech – even the audience was fired up. I’m glad he was able to welcome those troops home himself, with Michelle. They care.

I watched them and I almost threw up. They are both racists. There’s no other word for it. They kept talking about Rev Wright and yelling that Pres. Obama basically hates white people, that Pres. Obama was telling black people that white people are the root of all evil and that one way to tell Pres. Obama hates white people is that he like other black people speak in a black dialect and accent that other black people understand is code for white hate. That black people don’t speak like other Americans. They have a certain black tone and intonation in the way they speak. They just went on and on and on. The naked hate they have for Pres. Obama and African-Americans was chilling.

And, really, this is the best they’ve got? This is the shiny object to distract from tomorrow? A speech that’s been around since 2007—AND REPORTED ON AT THE TIME?! Their internal polling must be scaring the shit out of them so much that they’re clutching at any life raft.

This will not get them white votes other than the white votes they were already going to get. Most decent people will be turned off by it. Voting Republican now is like condoning the racism. This shit is more appealing to men than women. My female neighbors in this rather red neighborhood are sickened by the racism and are going to vote for Obama. It’s not guilt. They are pissed about what the Republicans want to do to medicare and social security. The women are the ones who care for their elderly relatives and take on the job of helping them apply for benefits and find good nursing care. There comes a point where you just have to stand up for what’s decent and do the right thing. In this case preserving retirement benefits and voting against hate make it an easy choice.

        October 3, 2012 at 2:34 am

UT, you are truly a brave and disciplined person, with wisdom beyond your age. The fact that you can watch Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity and still maintain your composure to write about what they said is amazing! I probably would not have lasted more than a minute watching them without destroying my T.V.

Obviously, what they are trying to do is to persuade whites who support the President that he is a Black nationalist racist who hates white people and should be feared by all white people. I suppose labeling him a Kenyan, a Muslim, a Socialist, a Communist, and a Nazi was not enough, and got them nowhere. They now think that calling him a black racist will work this time around. Their problem, of course, is that President Obama has now been President for almost four years. I doubt that they will convince many sane whites to start seeing him as this racist Black man who is out to destroy white people. Surely, sane whites know that Obama Care was not just for Blacks; and neither were thousands of jobs created by the Auto industry, on top of over a million saved. Sane whites know that American troops brought home from Iraq were not all Black people, but included whites, Latinos, Asians, and men and women of all races . Sane whites know that student Loan reforms and Wall Street Financial reforms benefit people of all races as well as men and women. The bottom line is: This garbage being spread by Drudge, Carlson, Hannity and some unethical media people, appeals primarily to the right wing “Echo Chamber.” I doubt that the vast majority of white people in the Obama campaign, the Obama administration, and Obama supporters, will buy into this utter race obsessed rubbish, which is clearly a sign of desperation by the right wingers/Romney campaign.

oh these debates are going to be delicious. i dare say these will be the easiest president obama has ever had. say that because in 2008, he wasn’t president yet and mccain had the whole elder statesman and ex-pow thing thing, while barack was kind of young and untested in that role. the puma-hillary thing was in full force at the time, and the media was even more in the tank for mccain than for mittbot.

before that, he was going up against the dems who were all quite strong debaters, including our own joe biden. and the minefield he had to walk during the hillary debates…and he still kicked butt in every one! i mean mittbot is a walk in the park compared to all those.

and tomorrow is the only one moderated by an actual journalist, although lehrer can be a bit of a “both sides do it” kind guy at times for my taste (sorry, carolyn, i know you’re related to him), but overall he’s one of the best out there. barack is a student of muhammed ali…oh it’s going to be brutal, in a good way. isee they flipped a coin and our president will be answering first, which means mittbot gets to talk last. expect barack in his closing statement, knowing this, to throw mittbot for a loop and say something unepxected that will fluster the mittbot and have him stumble right up to the end. any “drama” being created about the debate is media-created. don’t be fooled, president obama will be better than we’ve ever seen him. it’s going to be awesome!

One for the history books. I do sometimes feel sorry for those who are so misled and blinded that they are missing out on the greatest leader of our lifetimes. History is being written as we live and they are too stupid to see it.

It’s on fox, anyone with half a brain knows it’s nothing but lies. It doesn’t matter what you say they choose to believe the lies. Ignore them. You have nothing to prove to haters.

When someone sends a nasty email, I think the best thing to do is just reply from the heart, don’t worry about facts and statistics. It takes too long to put together an answer, and those people won’t be persuaded anyway. I would “reply all” because they probably sent it out to a group. Stick up for the President. Something like “I disagree totally with what you say. I am a solid supporter of President Obama and feel he is doing a great job in a tough situation. ” And send.

Just to throw a little water on things: I would remind everyone that when scared beasts are backed into a corner, they become even more dangerous. There’s still a month left of muckslinging and threats (both real and imagined) to get through just yet. We must stay focused and like PBO says, kick off the bedroom slippers, put on our marching shoes, and in the case of Faux News, Drudge, et al., our hazmat suits!

Yup focus and determination for the next 36 days. One thing I always keep in mind is that these GOP voters are like farts: silent and deadly. šŸ™‚ Seriously, I remember the HUGE rally that Senator Obama had in St. Louis just days before the election. McCain and Palin couldn’t have matched that turnout in their dreams. And yet, Missouri went for McCain. So crowd size is very encouraging but it isn’t necessarily reflective of what the polls will show.

          October 3, 2012 at 3:21 am

Yes indeed, Dudette! In politics, a month is a life time. We must stay focused! We must continue to work as hard as we can to register more people and to get out the vote. GOT is especially crucial right now in the states with early voting. We must continue to contribute when we can. We must be disciplined to spend little energy on haters intent on distracting us from our goal. Above all, we must not rest until Nov.7, 2012! This means, as Bobfr and others have been emphasizing, that we must avoid being manipulated by the media pundits and by media obsession with day-to-day polls. The real poll numbers that ultimately matter are those that will be announced on 11/06/2012. Our #1 task is it ensure that on Nov.6. 2012 we will win the majority of the votes to re-elect our President as well as Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress.

Thanks Tally for asking the question: “If Mitt Romney gained no tax advantage by off-shoring his cash and investments” then why did he “do it?” Which leads me to this other question that has been eating me up: Romney, per his slogan, says he “Believes in America.” If that is the case, why did he invest in the Cayman Islands and Bermuda and stash his money in Swiss banks, instead of the U.S. that he believes in? Sadly, I doubt that any of the debates’ moderators would dare to ask Mitt Romney that question. Maybe if we are lucky a regular citizen, in the Town Hall debate segment, will ask him that question. Ordinary Americans, like me, need to know why Romney preferred to invest his money off-shore instead of investing it in the good old U.S.A? I especially want to know how Romney’s investments abroad that gave him tax breaks helped create jobs in the U.S.

Witness the serial compulsive liar, Mitt Romney, announcing, before the debates, that President Obama will tell lies about him. They should be embarrassed AND ashamed. This is a race for the position of President of the United States, with the power to engage the US military, affect opportunities for the next generation, influence events around the world. The GOP and their media cohorts are not taking it seriously. And the world is watching.

Putin said it best, when he said there’s no guarantee that the right wingers won’t occupy the Oval Office at some point or another – and it scares the living daylights out of everyone. I just read the Frum nonsense about the economy – the only reason middle class incomes are down and the recovery slow is the GOP congress. The minute they had a GOP President they would vote FOR everything they have so far voted against. Every one of them should be defeated – what lies they tell and how they hate their country to do what they have done.

    • October 3, 2012 at 3:41 am

This is true. I heard a snippet of Paul Ryan saying that the GOP answer wouldn’t be to present something to the President and say “my way or the highway”. They’d work with him by offering their policies and then negotiating a solution that everyone can live with.

debate party snacks? no, it’s the dullard myth robmey strategy:

‘ At a time when even his fondest supporters are pleading for more substance, Mitt Romney is giving them the political equivalent of junk food. His has been the Zinger candidacy — all sugary platitudes, no protein.

Sample his speech Monday night upon arriving in Colorado for debate prep:

Obama ā€œdoesn’t just like picking winners and losers,ā€ Romney said. ā€œHe likes picking losers.ā€

    Zing!

ā€œWe’ve had 43 straight months with unemployment above 8 percent, and what does the president have to say to all this? He says ā€˜forward.’ I think ā€˜forewarned’ is a better term.ā€

    Zing!

ā€œHe’s out of ideas, he’s out of excuses, and on November 6th you’re going to put him out of office.ā€

    Zing!

ā€œHe’s making us more and more like Europe. I don’t want to be like Europe. Europe doesn’t work in Europe.ā€

    Zing!
