****

Wednesday: He will travel from Henderson to Denver where he will participate in the first Presidential Debate at the University of Denver. The First Lady will also attend. The President and the First Lady will remain overnight in Denver.

Thursday: PBO will deliver remarks at campaign events in Denver and Columbus, Ohio. He will return to Washington, DC in the evening.

Charles Pierce: ….. DAVID GREGORY: “The president has said as recently as May of this year that al Qaeda has not had a chance to rebuild, that al Qaeda has been defeated…..”

Every part of this question, from its faulty premise to its phony conclusion, is arrant bullshit. The president never has said that al Qaeda “has not had a chance to rebuild” or that it has been “defeated.” (You will also note that Gregory uses the “challenger said” technique to catapult Willard Romney’s desperate hogwash into respectability….

….. I defy anyone to find even an implication in that passage that would justify Gregory’s question to Plouffe, let alone Gregory’s playing Madame to Willard Romney’s Wayland Flowers …. This is the kind of journalistic malpractice that brought us President George W. Bush and mushroom clouds and aluminum tubes and thousands and thousands of dead people.

Washington Post: On the eve of their first presidential debate, President Obama leads or is at parity with Mitt Romney on virtually every major issue and attribute in what remains a competitive general election, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The new survey also highlights an emerging dynamic: the disparity between the state of the race nationally and in battleground states, where campaigning and advertising by the two candidates have been most intense and where the election will be decided.

Nationally, the race is unmoved from early September, with 49 percent of likely voters saying they would vote for Obama if the election were held today and 47 percent saying they would vote for Romney. Among all registered voters, Obama is up by a slim five percentage points, nearly identical to his margin in a poll two weeks ago.

But 52 percent of likely voters across swing states side with Obama and 41 percent with Romney in the new national poll, paralleling Obama’s advantages in recent Washington Post polls in Florida, Ohio and Virginia.

OHIO ballot reports are publicly available at the local level for many, but not all, counties. @ningrim is tracking the county level ballot requests here. Sec. of State Husted reports more than 732,000 absentee ballot requests statewide. October 2 is the deadline under Ohio law for Ohio election officials to mail their absentee ballots to domestic civilian voters. However, election officials may send mail ballots in advance of this deadline, and some have begun to do so.

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/giovannirodriguez/2012/09/30/october-surprise-how-the-economy-slipped-away-from-romney/?partner=obtech

    Election Day is Already Here

And that, perhaps, is the biggest challenge for Romney. Citizens are already voting. And with “the economy” as a talking point reframed and more evenly driven by the two candidates, it of course favors the Obama campaign that early voting is well underway. In fact, as we noted near the top of this article, early voting was a big topic of discussion among influencers this week. And there are a few reasons for this. First, more than 40 percent of all voters — the highest percentage yet — are expected to take advantage of early voting laws. Second, Ohio, one of the two most important battleground states, opens its polls on Tuesday, just one day before the first presidential debate. Third, the “early voting” meme appears to have emerged as a positive storyline for including stories about voter suppression which, as we noted in an earlier story, were getting surprising scant attention.

For these and other reasons, we expect that getting out the vote (GOTV) — and all its permutations — will become the number one issue in the weeks that remain. Unless of course there’s an October surprise. But maybe the surprise is that “the economy” theme slipped away from Romney. Or the surprise could be that there’s no surprise today that’s big enough to alter an election that’s already underway. Election Day, for many of us, is already here, and we’ve had many months to compare and contrast the candidates.

There will be “news,” of course — some invented, some real — but with so many people already at the polls, it may come too late.

  21. October 1, 2012 at 10:07 am

Good morning TOD family from yes, Palm Beach County Florida. After all the news of the GOP voting scandal,I want to relay a day from last week. You all know I register voters here in Florida. I do have my 3rd party organization certificate. I live 3 miles from one of the board of elections offices and pass by it everyday on my way to work.

Last Friday I was turning in a few forms. I have to fill out a form that is attached to my completed forms and then handed to data entry people behind the counter. They are put in the data base immediately then the forms are sent to the main office so cards can be mailed. While waiting in line I noted a problem with the person in front of me while she turned in her forms. The were clipped together and she was told they would have to be sent to the main office before being put into the data base. I am now wondering if this was one of the people they are talking about. I am a true Obamacrat! I still turn in all the forms that are filled out. Yes, even independent and Republican voters. I do believe EVERYONE has the right to have a voice. I am doing this on my own not through OFA. If I register a voter… I turn in their forms the next day! This is unless I get some over the weekend.

Iran’s currency, the rial, fell almost 10% on Monday to a record low against the dollar, leaving it with a loss of 25% in one week.

The rial was trading at 32,250 against the dollar at 12:00BST on Monday.

On Sunday, it was worth about 29,720, according to the Iranian currency-tracking website Mazanex.

The fall suggests economic sanctions imposed over its disputed nuclear programme are hitting economic activity ever harder.

The latest slide appears to have been triggered by a government move to supply dollars to importers of certain basic goods at a special rate in an attempt to rein in the currency slide, but the move has had the opposite effect.

    ///

Iran is all but frozen out of the global banking system as a result of largely US-led sanctions designed to discourage what it says is Iran’s attempts to build a nuclear weapon.

President Obama’s reelection campaign is reloading what it considers a powerful weapon against Republican challenger Mitt Romney: the disgruntled voice of someone who worked with Romney when he was governor of Massachusetts.

Eleven Massachusetts Democrats who overlapped with Romney between 2003 and 2007 will visit nine swing states this week in a foray timed to the first presidential debate on Wednesday in Denver. Since June, the Obama campaign has deployed more than two dozen current and former elected officials from Massachusetts to 11 states, where they have hosted more than 100 events.

The idea, Obama campaign spokesman Michael Czin said, is to make the president’s criticisms of Romney concrete.

Las Vegas Sun has a great write-up of PBO’s campaign rally last night!

HEADLINE: Obama, with a Latin-rock twist, rallies thousands of supporters in Las Vegas

// It was the most star-studded event billing of what has been a busy presidential campaign season in Southern Nevada, and the crowd revealed as much.

About 11,200 people stood for hours in 90-degree heat Sunday for a chance to see a campaign rally for President Barack Obama that also featured world-famous rock band Maná at Desert Pines High School. It was Obama’s eighth trip to the Silver State this year, according to the campaign, and the crowd far surpassed the 8,000 the president drew to Cashman Center in September. //

Good Morning TOD Family. This is just a wonderful and joyful day for me to be here and alive to see this day.

First, I want to thank our beautiful Chips for keeping this a beautiful place to come to each day.

I also want to thank all who dug deep to donate to our TOD Family. Your generous hearts will help millions of people all over the country in our coming second term. I felt a beautiful family spirit that shares lovingly, and gives from the heart. So good to be a part of something as huge as re-electing a president.

As Donna stated, get out the candles, meditate in your own private way, pray in your own personal and private way, and fill your space with the best of the best of thoughts as we approach Wed. Be joyful as POB shows us each and every day.

Our goodness within our spirits will surround him with such a good and brilliant energy to move within his space for Wed., plus carry out his duties as president while doing all of his preps for Wed.

So make those phone calls(I am set for today, Tues., and Thurs. I love you all so much. You give my heart joy to be here with you. I am putting Mr. Pain in the freezer today.

I love and respect you, my dear, dear beautiful Chips.((((Hugs 2 U 4 being so beautiful 2 all of us))))))

Yo ho ho O’s!!! What a glorious and great getting up day today on the TOD porch!!!! Thanks Chips for posting my fundraiser page here on your site. I am so pleased and thankful to all of you for helping me out with my fundraiser page. In ’08 my goal was only $200.00. This time I went all out and now my final goal is $2000.00. I’m real close to that and just really wanted to make sure you all know how much your participation means to me. This is more than contributing to the campaign. It brings with it a sense of community among us TODdies.

My political take today is that with the Supreme Court convenes today. They will be hearing some very sensitive cases, Voters Rights, DOMA, Affirmative Action, etc. That is one of the most important reason we need to keep our POTUS in place.

    • October 1, 2012 at 11:14 am

You are so right cookemom. Our O Sista Val, had her FR goal set very low at first, but now she has reached in the 1000’s as well. I think it is really a testament to all of us doing our part and doing whatever we can. A true grassroots campaign vs simply big money from the likes of Koch bros and Adelson. The organization of this campaign is amazing.

do we know who the moderator is on wednesday night- is this Candy Crowley’s night? I fully expect stupid, ignorant questions.. I also expect Romney to break/bend whatever rules are in place & get away with it.. yep I’m cynical 😉 I fully expect disrespect directed at POTUS by the moderators.. and absolutely by Romney.. all his “zingers” will be personal, insulting and freely allowed. Hopefully I’m wrong & we’ll all enjoy a true debate on the issues at hand by two serious men who have our best interests as their goal… but since there will most likely be only One Adult in the room, I won’t be holding my breath.

I have decided not even to watch the debates. The only thing that matters ultimately is to see how the emdia spins it. The fact is, as shown in the past, who the public initially sees as the winner is not always the same as the media sees it. And the media does have the ability to sway public opinion.
All that being said, the only way the debates can makedifference is if PBO makes a major error, which I can’t see him doing.

      • October 1, 2012 at 11:17 am

I have to work Wed night but I am going to DVR the debate. When I come home I am going to read some online comments first lmao and then decide if I actually want to watch or not. I am just afraid that Romney will get away with not answering questions, and then telling lies without rebuttal from the moderator and the MSM will carry the water. They have set the bar low just like they did for Sarah Palin and then called her lousy debate against VP Biden a victory.

In 2008 that was funny as all get out. They were tooting her horn about how great she was and then CBS did a snap poll that said VP Joe had won by a large margin and they had to shift gears. The same thing happened with PBO’s debates with McCain.

      • October 1, 2012 at 1:19 pm

I have to disagree, japa 21. I always listen to the President even if I do not like the person interviewing or questioning him. I learn a lot about how to respond, how to avoid getting all tangled up and incoherent in dealing with people who do not share my views and even those who are openly hostile. President Obama has such grace and dignity in responding to even the most ridiculous allegations and insinuations. He always forces his opposites to return to the real issues at hand and holds his own. I have no doubt that he will do well and come across as the honest, thoughtful person that he is.

thank you all for your responses.. appreciate all of you 🙂 Yes I agree Leher will be the best we get in terms of fairness. Very glad to know that Crowley is going to be limited by the questions she gets.. look for her ‘tone’ when asking these questions. Anyhoo… I have absolute trust in President Obama’s abilities- he’s there for us, therefore he will be on top & prepared for all the nonsense. So I’ll have his back all the way.

Like your ideas, but I’m not going to be able to pay attention to Crowley’s “tone,” since I’ll be muting every damn thing she spews out of her mouth.

Other than that, happy October, sherijr and TODville!

The problem is Robme will stack the audience in his favor with the help from Crowley. It’s doesn’t matter…just like the Univision interview, Robme will come off like an arsehole.

Just another reminder folks! Tonight at 7PM ET, Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren will have their second debate in race for Senate seat (MA). The not-so-good news is that David Gregory will moderate, but he is on notice, especially after that egregious lie he told on MTP yesterday. Please tune in. The debate will be carried live on CSPAN one TV (and livestreamed on CSPAN.org as well).

Also other debates of interest on CSPAN tonight are:

    1. Nebraska Senate (Bob Kerrey [D] and Deb Fischer [R]) 3rd and final debate, at 8PM ET, right after the Brown-Warren debate .

    2. Live on CSPAN 2 TV will be the VA 7th congressional district (Wayne Powell [D] and Eric Cantor[R]) at 7PM ET.

Don’t know how many of you have a 7-11 in your state but, every general election they do a “Coffee Cup Poll”. Blue for PBO and Red for Romney. Here is the link to their website. You can check your state and also possibly your city:

    http://www.7-eleven.com/7-Election/NationalResults.aspx

Do remember this is a FUN poll and not factual but, they have predicted the outcome in the last 3 Presidential elections.

To all my TODs, a bit of advice. Start preparing now for the Wednesday debates. Know that if you have MSM issues, that feeling will be magnified during and after the debate. If you are apt to fret, know that you will probably have untold anxiety. If you are quick to react, try to remain calm until the question is at least asked. If you’re like me, and suffer from all of these, then make sure you have your favorite drink, the remote, and a trusted friend nearby. The remote to hit the mute or turn the channel in a nanosecond, the drink to calm your nerves, and the friend to scrape you off the walls. Other than that, do try and have fun. Look for the positive in the questions and answers. Picture Mitt standing there in his magic underwear. Try to emulate PBO, never too high, never too low. Know that PBO got this and no matter the spin, we don’t have to gnash our teeth. We just keep it moving FORWARD!

RanMan (@ranman09) (How can we start a petition drive to request for David Gregory that repub shill to apologize or be removed for the damn lies) that call for action, we are to busy blog talking, text talking, that’s what we do best. Some don’t have time to do a petition or call out someone that is lying as a group ( that’s Obama job) Most are here to read, blog talk, text talk, give money, blog talk to death, NO real Action. I tried (petition drive of the media here ) in 2010 before Republicans took the house and it did not get off the ground. I have always said from day one its Obama vs the Media but we love to bash the Republicans who don’t have power the media do. Most of my post is about the media not giving Obama respect as the leader of the free world. If Mitt wins the media wins. We, Obama supporters let him down by not focusing on the real enemy THE MEDIA (P.S.If you are doing action for the Obama in this area this post was not meant for you. If you can find the time to post here you can send a post to the media. Thank RanMan and desertflower I have text Meet the press concern Gregory lies, keep up the good work Yes we can:) http://www.change.org/ Start one…we’ll sign it! Let’s make an impact with our text.

Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan lamented that media bias pervades the 2012 presidential election coverage.

During an interview on “Fox New Sunday” with host Chris Wallace, Ryan said that he was “used to media bias” because he’s a “conservative first.”

Wallace, who was stern with the vice presidential candidate throughout the interview, asked if Ryan though the mainstream media was “carrying water for Barack Obama.”

“I think it goes without saying that there’s definitely media bias,” Ryan said. “We expected media bias going into this.”

When asked to provide specific examples of biased coverage, Ryan said that he was not going “to go tit for tat or litigate” the issue.

“As a conservative, I’ve long believed and long felt that there’s an inherent media bias. And I think anybody with objectivity would believe that that’s the case,” Ryan said.

As part of its ongoing “We Can’t Wait” initiative, the Obama administration is expediting two regional transit projects.

The White House on Monday announced that the Southwest Light Rail Transit line in Minneapolis, Minn. and the  Little Italy Rapid Station in Cleveland, Ohio were both approved.

“As part of a Presidential Executive Order issued in March of this year, the Office of Management and Budget is charged with overseeing a government-wide effort to make the permitting and review process for infrastructure projects more efficient and effective, saving time while driving better outcomes for local communities,” the White House said in a statement.

“Investments in infrastructure are putting people back to work in Minnesota and Ohio building and modernizing our transit systems,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in a statement. “The Obama Administration is committed to doing its part to help communities across the country move forward with these critical projects as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

The Obama administration has been running an ongoing program of using executive orders to bypass congressional inaction and gridlock.

Lyin ryan said he’s “used to media bias” because he’s a “conservative first.”

He should try being an American first, that way he could make the USA his priority rather than an ideology.

OFF-TOPIC News for Adele lovers out there:
Skyfall: Adele confirms James Bond theme song
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/19785659

Adele has confirmed she has recorded the theme for the forthcoming James Bond film, Skyfall. She posted a picture of the song credits on her official Twitter page, and says recording the track was “one of the proudest moments of my life”. It comes after months of rumours and other people, aside from Adele, discussing it.

Adele’s photo appears to show the cover page of the sheet music for the Skyfall theme. It lists the composers as A. Adkins, the singer’s full name, and P. Epworth – the producer and co-writer of her hit single Rolling In The Deep. The music has been arranged by Epworth and film composer JAC Redford, whose credits include The Help, The Iron Lady and Wall-E.

Skyfall will be premiered via the singer’s official website at 0.07 BST on Friday 5 October. The same date marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the first James Bond film, Dr. No.

The Polls look ALL good to me

I’m somewhat of a poll follower (apologies – it’s been inbuilt since McCain introduced Palin) – but in particular the arithmetic of Nate Silver (Ignore his discussion most of the time – unless it relates purely to the numbers).
At the end of the polls yesterday the President had an 85.1% chance of being elected in November with at least 320 electoral votes. This is the highest figure to date.

Rasmussen – the daily pollster who tends to win the accuracy vote the day before an election – has been trending towards the President for the past 2 days, with today being 50-47 for the President. Rasmussen has had the President behind or equal until about 3-4 days ago & is now amazingly coming back to where everyone else is standing. It is a 3 day rolling average so by Friday I have little doubt they will be giving the President a “debate bounce” and be basically in agreement with the rest of the polls.

ALL polls have error rates – from 3-5 points – so whether a poll has the President up by 2 or 5 points the real difference could be -1 to 8. No polls, however, are showing Romney in the lead – the trend is all for the President.

The state polls appear to be showing more strength for the President which is also good news for John McCain (he really does NOT want Mitt to win). State polls are often more accurate than federal ones as they cover a larger number of voters in a smaller geographical area – more chance to hit the best random selection. So although the WAPO poll gives good news for the swing states, the individual state polls are probably more accurate – and are also good news for the swing states – perhaps with a slightly lower margin.

I can imagine twitter’s response to this! 😆

BTW, CC, I ‘m beginning to think the timing of my retirement from competition has been providential. Ever since you have joined the common folk on Twitter I can’t turn my head without bumping into a mirror image of you. My poor neck is suffering whiplash trying to determine if it’s really you or someone hiding behind you! Congrats on fitting so effortlessly into the neighbourhood. Of course, most people have quickly recognized your talents and humour. Come to think of it, a couple of TODobots have found their ‘natural home’ on Twitter in the last little while – I’m thinking of Dudette, Edwina, 57F….
