  27. September 26, 2012 at 11:30 pm

    Off topic:

Today, my husband, a quiet political junkie made two points to me. First, he said, “do you know that CNN is really biased toward Romney, I can’t imagine Candy Crowley moderating a debate.” I told him that many of us held the view about CNN.

He also said, he noticed that the Iranian president’s speech to the U.N. (which I did not see) was much more restrained than he had seen in previous years. He credited PBO for most likely the reason for this. He said that the guy might have very well listened to PBO speech yesterday. Just an observation.

    • 104 theo67
      September 27, 2012 at 12:23 am

I’m worried about Candy Crowley in the debates, too. She’s just horrible. What a terrible pick for the first woman to moderate a Presidential debate.

As for Ahmadinejad – they had an Iranian expert on NPR tonight, and he made the same observation. But, he did say that his psychiatrist friends are saying that Ahmadinejad is a narcissist, and he’s fallen in love with the limelight – he’s going to be difficult to keep quiet, and he knows a lot of secrets. Should be interesting once he leaves office…

I follow my youngest daughter’s alma mater, DePauw U. in Greencastle, In. on twitter, and I started getting these ridiculous tweets about the election—–both sides bad type tweets—–race is even, Obama in jeopardy because he’s below 50%—–etc. and I see it’s coming from a guest speaker, Candy Crowley! And I thought—ugh—–it was confirming that she is going to be a horrible, biased debate moderator.

US Soldier’s Helmet Cam Shows Him Drawing Taliban Fire To Protect His Unit
    Geoffrey Ingersoll | Sep. 26, 2012, 7:47 PM | 2,963 | 11

The U.S. Army Soldier in this video believed his unit was trapped by enemy fire, so the only solution was to draw the fire away from them. The kicker is that he had to become the target.
When buddies, brothers, fellow soldiers in your unit are in danger, no action is too much, nothing goes without consideration, and in flash you move.
The description of the video, allegedly from the soldier himself, says he “got hit four times” as he made his way down the mountain.

      ———————————————–

Youtube comment indicates the 4 Moments of impact: 1:24 1:44 1:52 2:00 2:22 (go back a second or two before each)

      More in the video description:
“No rounds penetrated his body armor, and he made it home with no permanent injuries. This happened in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
      *READ* From the cameraman:
” I got a hit a total of 4 times. My helmet cam died and i made it down the mountain on my own. I was also hit in the side of my helmet and my eye pro was shot off of my face. We were doing overwatch on the village to recon and gather intel. I was point heading down the face of the hill with the LT. when we got hit. the rest of the squad was pinned down by machine gun fire. I didn’t start the video until a few mins into the firefight for obvious reasons. I came out into the open to draw fire so my squad could get to safety.”

“A round struck the tube by my hand of the 203 grenade launcher which knocked it out of my hands. When I picked the rifle back up it was still functional but the grenade launcher tube had a nice sized 7.62 cal bullet hole in it and was rendered useless. ”

This footage is part of an ongoing documentation of the war in Afghanistan. “

Jersey isn’t a country (maybe why you never heard of it) — it’s one of the Channel Islands. They’re British Crown Dependencies in the English Channel, off the French coast of Normandy. They include two separate bailiwicks: the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey. (Source of two of the best varieties of dairy cows.)

STUNNINGLY EFFECTIVE NEW AD KICKS ASS! Wooooooot!!
    ———————————————–
    Video description from YouTube:

    Read the President’s plan: http://OFA.BO/SAzDgd

During the last weeks of this campaign there will be debates, speeches and more ads. But if I could sit down with you in your living room or around the kitchen table here’s what I’d say:

When I took office we were losing nearly 800,000 jobs a month and were mired in Iraq. Today I believe that as a nation we are moving forward again. But we have much more to do to get folks back to work and make the middle class secure again.

Now, Governor Romney believes that with that even bigger tax cuts for the wealthy and fewer regulations on Wall Street all of us will prosper. In other words he’d double down on the same trickle down policies that led to the crisis in the first place. So what’s my plan?

First, we create a million new manufacturing jobs and help businesses double their exports. Give tax breaks to companies that invest in America, not that ship jobs overseas.

Second, we cut our oil imports in half and produce more American-made energy, oil, clean-coal, natural gas, and new resources like wind, solar and bio-fuels—all while doubling the fuel efficiencies of cars and trucks.

Third, we insure that we maintain the best workforce in the world by preparing 100,000 additional math and science teachers. Training 2 million Americans with the job skills they need at our community colleges. Cutting the growth of tuition in half and expanding student aid so more Americans can afford it.

Fourth, a balanced plan to reduce our deficit by four trillion dollars over the next decade on top of the trillion in spending we’ve already cut, I’d ask the wealthy to pay a little more. And as we end the war in Afghanistan let’s apply half the savings to pay down our debt and use the rest for some nation building right here at home.

It’s time for a new economic patriotism. Rooted in the belief that growing our economy begins with a strong, thriving middle class. Read my plan. Compare it to Governor Romney’s and decide for yourself. Thanks for listening.

I find so much refreshment here, not only because of her, but all the wonderful community here. I share a lot of the information I find here. So much heart and service! Thank you everyone.

I belong to a group of women from states around the country, who have been active in Obama’s campaign from the start, canvassing, phonebanking etc. If you are looking around for promotional items, take a look at the ones the group have made with their signature. http://www.zazzle.com/obamalovers/gifts . We have been pleased with the quality. “We are a group of women who support President Obama, Joe Biden, and Democrats. A portion of the proceeds goes to the campaign.” Twitter address is #obamalovers (Chipsticks, if you think this is inappropriate to promote on your site, please delete. – I couldn’t find an email to ask permission first.)

President Obama has expanded his lead in Iowa, a state where voters can begin casting their ballots starting tomorrow.

Obama leads Republican candidate Mitt Romney 51 percent to 44 percent in the Hawkeye State, according to a new survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling. The president only notched a 2-point lead in Iowa in the firm’s poll from late August.

“Barack Obama is starting to pull away in Iowa,” said Dean Debnam, President of PPP said in a release. “Voters there just really don’t like Mitt Romney. It would be more competitive if the Republicans had a half decent candidate.”

My slideshare project, Early Voting Expanded is done. It’s the

revised version of Early Voting 2012. (It’s the top Presentation)
I started off by doing another Presentation, but realized quickly

that I just needed to add to the previous project. I now have info

on voter registration and absentee deadlines as well. Another will

be coming on voter protection tonight. Please post to wherever and

share with all. A third on Obama Accomplishments may be sometime

this weekend as well. Inform your neighbors and friends.

I’m finding I actually love doing Powerpoints!

Voting issues has been a passion of mine since 2000, when I had to

sit in an office and silently cry while Gore was robbed of his

Presidency by five black-robed thieves. It was intensified on

September 11, 2001 when I saw that the guy they robbed Gore for was

nowhere to be seen for several hours of the worst horror I’d ever

seen. 2004 didn’t help either. So I’ve been interested in voter

education-an informed voter is an effective voter.

Please delete the previous post, Chips. And I hope it’s okay to post this. All I want is for people to see and download and link this presentation for other people to learn something. I did this so that folks could find an easy way to get deadlines and basic info.My slideshare project, Early Voting Expanded is done. It’s the revised version of Early Voting 2012. • September 27, 2012 at 8:28 am

Comment: Here’s the most important thing I learned from Ann’s interview with Jay:

When asked what causes she would champion as First Lady she said, “Breast Cancer, MS and any other disease I might get”. Well, thanks Mrs. Romney, you only care about those things that affect you directly. Not that MS and Breast Cancer aren’t important causes, they are, but maybe there’s something out there that she could devote her energy to that doesn’t somehow directly affect her.

The Romney’s are self-centered selfish people. When something affects them directly they care, if it doesn’t affect them directly they don’t.

President Obama’s support among Catholic voters has surged since June, according to a new poll, despite a summer that included the Catholic bishops’ religious freedom campaign and the naming of Rep. Paul Ryan, a Catholic, as the GOP’s vice-presidential candidate.

On June 17, Obama held a slight edge over Mitt Romney among Catholics (49-47 percent), according to the Pew Research Center. Since then, Obama has surged ahead, and now leads 54-39 percent, according to a Pew poll conducted on Sept. 16.

      ///

John C. Green, an expert on religion and politics at the University of Akron in Ohio, said Obama’s surge among Catholic voters does not mean the bishops’ campaign was ineffective . But religious freedom is not the most salient issue for Catholics during an election dominated by economic concerns, he said.

      ///

Among white evangelicals, another crucial religious constituency, Romney’s support has inched up since July, from 69 to 74 percent, according to the Pew poll, while Obama’s percentage declined.

Despite concerns that Obama’s support for same-sex marriage would alienate African-American Protestants, 95 percent still back Obama over Romney.

Obama also leads among Americans with no religious affiliation, 65-27 percent. Romney leads among Americans who attend worship services at least weekly, 51-42 percent.

As someone who grew up Catholic, the heartlessness of Romney attitude toward the poor goes against everything I learner about Christ s teachings. More than anything else, his work evolved around improving the lives of those who are less fortunate. Unfortunately, the Bishops have become the 1%!! But the nuns haven’t and they have been supportive of a lot of PBO initiatives, often clashing with those bishops.

Jonathan Capehart really ticked me mighty off last night with his drivel about the American people only wanting short simple soundbites in the debates. Well excuse me Mr. Capehart, but our President has NEVER patronized the American people’s intelligence or their maturity and has always given substantive responses to his questions, even if they are a little longer than the canned talking points of every GOP candidate. And the American people have responded extremely WELL to our President’s long, detailed answers to their questions. It’s the beltway media that LOVES the soundbites and canned talking points because it fills up their vapid heads and enables their sensationalist reporting.

          ———————

Tell it HF. I saw Jonathan Capehart spouting that crap last night too. He’s got issues. I really can’t figure him out. smdh. But I have a newsflash for JC – One of the many reasons why Mitt Romney is losing so badly is that he can’t provide any SPECIFICS on anything He’s got nothin. And on top of that he has disdain for you, your colleagues in the media and the American people. President Obama has specifics and a story to tell about his accomplishments. And he respects the American people and treats them like adults.

Hate to say it, but every Capehart appearance is a waste of air time. Every time he says something, my response is “What???”

          • 230 hopefruit2
            September 27, 2012 at 9:15 am

Exactly dotster. I got into it with him about 2 months ago on Twitter when he made the most ludicrous supposition that Romney could win the election by using the same strategy that former NY Gov George Pataki used in 1994! And that strategy was by remaining relatively “unknown” throughout the campaign while running against an “unpopular incumbent.”

I wanted to tell Capehart where to go and how long to stay there, but the better angels in me steered me towards simply disagreeing with him and calmly pointing out that the candidates and political situations in 2012 are completely different from what they were in 1994. And I gave him specific examples of how they differed – that is Romney was not a generic “unknown” like Pataki; Obama was not an “unpopular” incumbent, and info was disseminated very differently in 1994 compared to now.

He retorted that there was a lot of “anger” out there against our President. I set him straight on that and told him that this “anger” is basically a hyperbolic ginned up exaggeration from the media. He didn’t respond to that. I guess he felt it wasn’t worth it to continue arguing because he would wind up looking more and more foolish!

Been reading a lot of articles lately about how the campaigns have been managing their cash and most of them point to the fact that OFA has the advantage because they have more direct control over their money. This article highlights that fact that OFA actually has an advantage in some ad rates too because of the portion of the money they control as compared to super pacs. In one example it points out an ad that Obama paid $125 for an ad that costs the super PACS $900.

That’s not bullshitting. That’s working for the Republican team. The more people vote early, the less likely Republican tricks work. Do they really think Obama is going to make major mistakes? The President is a guy who makes other people make major mistakes-and Robme has made a ton in less than a month. Obama-never gets flustered, practices harder than most and knows what he’s talking about. He’s not going to make a mistake in a debate. They know that there’s no hope there. So all they are doing is trying to slow down early voting.
