AP: Fresh signs of a national housing rebound and growing support in public opinion polls boosted President Barack Obama’s bid for a new term in the White House on Wednesday as Mitt Romney struggled to quell his video controversy.

The challenger’s attempts to get his campaign back on track ran into fresh difficulty in the form of criticism from fellow Republicans concerned with their own election prospects in the fall.

…. construction of single-family homes jumped to the highest rate in more than two years. Separately, the National Association of Realtors reported that home sales rose last month to the highest level since May 2010.

…. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took up the cause …. “So who are those Americans Mitt Romney disdains as ‘victims’ and ‘those people?’ They’re not avoiding their tax bills, using Cayman Island tax shelters or Swiss bank accounts like Mitt Romney.”

Matt Miller (Washington Post): I thought we’d reached new heights of chutzpah in 2010 when Paul Ryan claimed to be a “fiscal conservative” — even though his original “Roadmap for America’s Future” added $62 trillion to the national debt before balancing the budget a half century from now.

Then that was topped in 2011 by the GOP’s galling refusal to raise the debt ceiling — despite having passed a Republican House budget that added nearly $6 trillion to the national debt in the next decade. As Bill Clinton might have said, it takes “brass” to stonewall on the debt limit when you’ve just voted to add trillions in fresh debt yourself.

But records are made to be broken. And so Mitt Romney’s fundraiser video riff now takes the chutzpah cake….

Just today, the Repubs voted down a jobs bill that would have helped veterans. They’re useless. The media needs to ask the Repubs every single day what they’ve done to create even one job.

Anne says the 47% comment was taken out of context. Yet, Mitt doubles down and never mentions the out of context concern. So now we have Ryan out there defending Mitt, by saying he was inarticulate, Ann is standing by her man, and Mitt keeps digging. No way Mitt ran Bain as more than a figurehead. I think he was just holding the pen there too. Now I think the tax returns will show how much of his fortune he’s managed to lose, in addition to the other ’09 amnesty. McWhyYouWantToBringUpTheDebates campaign folks probably interviewed him and went with $arah Pay’em cause she was more coherent.

Just thought this was an incredibly neat story: http://www.woi-tv.com/story/19568618/obama-gives-wedding-gift-to

the president left early enough that the wedding went off without a hitch and ended unlike anything they’d ever imagined.

“Everything has the presidential seal,” Jon said pulling out a bag.

Inside is a handwritten note that read, “Congratulations on the wedding. Michelle and I wish you a great life together. Barack Obama.”

Also, a silver tray and a mint julep cup.

“I mean, what do you do with a mint julep cup? You have to make a mint julep,” said Jon. “So I used it the first night for sure.”

Jon and Sayli find it hard to believe the most powerful man in the world took the time to congratulate them. And even though neither one is a registered Democrat, they say it’s still the coolest gift ever.

“Love him or hate him, it’s a gift from the president,” Jon said.

Let them keep talking. Our people will register even more voters and our registered voters will come out IN FORCE just because they have been told they “shouldn’t vote”. Some of our folks need a kick in the butt and that comment certainly was a swift one.

These are the kinds of odious Republicans who dominate our statehouses wherever there is a GOP majority. They have long since ceased to be public servants and their only loyalty is to those who will best feather their nests. With Republican governors supporting the most punitive, mean spirited legislation in history, people in these states have really been suffering from abuse. Unfortunately most of the governors don’t come up for election this year and the outlook doesn’t look great for much of a change in the PA state house. People are going to have to stop automatically re-electing incumbents and start taking their states back.

It ALWAYS helps to lower expectations for your candidate and for debates this is almost a necessity because it is about 90% based on expectations. Voting day is not about expectations — it’s reality — but debate success is largely based on expectations.

Awesome!!! 🙂 So our job in addition to volunteering is to communicate the meme of lowering expectations for the debates. You will find the Obama campaign doing exactly that for the next few weeks. This is an important aspect of 4th quarter strategy so that POTUS exceeds expectations and the momentum stays with us so that we get the borderline voter out and votes a straight DEM ticket to get the House back.

Particularly when I also read that the House after taking the month of August off is taking ANOTHER recess starting September 22 through the end of September and then ANOTHER longer recess from October 6 until Nov. 12. It is shameful and despicable that they have done nothing and the American people are footing their salaries with our tax dollars.

Unless I missed something-i got distracted for about 10 minutes- she didnt show his campaign speech. she briefly showed 20 seconds of the rally as an introduction, stating that she doesn’t typically show rallies cause they can feel like a repeat, but that they are monitoring it if Willard and his only Spanish speaking son makes news at the rally. She did it last week for one of PBO’s night rallies. She didn’t show a big part of PBO’s campaign speech just showed the same thing as she did for Willard. No news was made by PBO and so she never went back to it. I suspect the same will happen for Willard tonight.

When Rachel Maddow prefaces her next segment with “I know I am going to make some enemies on Capitol Hill. I don’t want to but it must be done”, that is enough of a warning for me to switch the channel.

… the American Bridge “Personal Responsibility” one. All were great but that one? Ouch! That one is gonna leave a mark.

  78. September 19, 2012 at 9:49 pm

    LOL!

A severe line of storms moved across west Miami-Dade Wednesday night, bringing with it pounding rain and winds as strong as 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The foul weather is said to have pounded several western neighborhoods as far south as Homestead and even knocked down palm trees along Kendall Drive near 122nd Avenue.

The line also passed over Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s indoor where crowds started gathering at 6 p.m. p.m. for the 8:30 p.m. rally at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo center at 10901 SW 24th St.

Some supporters were soaked walking to the pavilion where Romney will speak soon.

And a Homestead city commission meeting was briefly interrupted as thunder storms made lights flicker on and off during Wednesday night’s meeting.

“It was a severe storm that moved across, Zoo Miami, Richmond Heights and Kendale Lakes,” said meteorologist Dan Gregoria. “Our Doppler radar indicated the storms brought winds between 45 mph and as strong as 60 mph.”

The storm prompted the service to issue a severe weather warning until just before 8 p.m. By then, the eastbound storms were entering Biscayne Bay.

Thanks Hopefruit – Nate’s “model” is being severely conservative although I guess if Mitt’s 47% isn’t factored in to the polls yet this should only get better. Hopefully in House polling too.

      • September 19, 2012 at 10:11 pm

Nate snarky tweeds are maddening, but his numbers are always correct.
He runs 25k simulations per day. He is a Freak!

        • September 19, 2012 at 10:29 pm

He can be snarky all he wants. If the numbers are good, they’re good. But, really? 25K simulations a day? He must have a hell of a computer reserved for him.

        • September 19, 2012 at 10:54 pm

Although I have not been following him as closely as I did on 2008, I don’t see any snark in these tweets. He had an interesting article on the difference between polls that use cell phones and those that don’t. His model takes an average. He compared his results through the filter of cellphones/no cell phones and the results were far more positive in the cell phone polls. (Rasmussen doesn’t use cell phones). Also because of some regulations, cell phone polls have to be live interviewer, not robocalls.

    Just in-
Robber will be doing 2 Events per day in some Battleground States.
As he has been getting slammed fir doing nothing, and just relying on ads and fundraisers.
Me thinks, whenever Robeney does 2 Events, so should POTUS!

      As if! 🙄

Nothing Willard does should dictate what the President does. After all, Willard is unemployed while Barack Obama is running the world. Besides that, PBO runs circles around Willard in his sleep and with half his brain tied behind his back.

The President would get more supporters at 1 campaign event a week than Romney will get in 2 events per day – but regardless – other than when he has official duties the President often has multiple points in one day.

I was doing a little research as I was thinking about how the Obama campaign hasn’t disparaged Mitt’s Mormon religion, particularly when they did not recognize blacks in their religion until the 70s!

I wonder if “Shirley” knows her photo is on this Mormon website. Jeez they have more African American photos on this site than white people.

Hahahahahahahahahahhahhahahahahahahaha!!!!! Letterman responds to Willard’s comment in Boca about Letterman hates him:

““Mitt goes on to say that I hate Mitt . . . because Mitt has done the Jay Leno show more often than he’s done my show, and that we’re all very jealous and petty and bitter and backbiting and show business — unlike politics,” Letterman told his studio audience, after noting that when Romney delivered his show’s Top Ten list recently, he had been “very genial, very likable, very personable.”

“I don’t hate Mitt, and I think now more than ever, he and his lovely wife, Mrs. Mitt, are more than welcome to come on the show,” Letterman continued.

“If you think you’re going to get to the White House, you’ve gotta spend time in this chair,” Letterman joked, addressing Romney.

“We’ll get him in here and we’ll see how it goes. . . .But I don’t hate Mitt because he’s been on Leno’s show more. I mean, why hate a guy who’s suffered through that?”

Can another statement from Romney’s campaign be far behind?

The Romney attack on media personalities shows his complete lack of understanding of what matters in politics. Many GOP politicians are like this – if President Obama reacted against the “hate” speech he receives he would be a quivering wreck – this is what Romney is fast becoming – as did Sarah Palin before him – when your skin is that thin, you are not Presidential material. Romney’s campaign know that – as do the remaining shreds of sanity in the GOP.

If you can’t handle Letterman & a few outspoken women – how on earth do you “handle” America?

romney: “And the kids and the parents said you know, if we all work, and we all save, we could afford to send one of us to college. And they, they sent my wife’s dad. Can you imagine working every day, taking a couple of jobs, saving your money so that your brother could go to—I mean, I would never do that for my brother…”

He tore Romney and his fat cat asshole friends a new one about the slurs he and they leveled against AG Holder in the leaked Romney videos. He also gave us a wonderful history lesson.

Thank you so much “Chipsticks” for the love and support, by placing my video dedicated to The President, on the front page of this wonderful blog diary. Much Love and Respects to you. And to the lovely “Desert Flower,” thank you again for your suggestion on making the video easier to read, when I have the photos with words on them. I’ve took your advice and worked on it this past weekend up until this past Tuesday. I hope this version, “Remix Two” meets your expectations. One Love to all of you, Blessings, Peace and Truth!!!!!!!
