WASHINGTON, DC ā Former presidential candidate Rick Santorum attacked the media and “smart people” for not being on the side of conservatives in a speech to the Values Voter Summit on Saturday.
“We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country,” Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, told the audience at the Omni Shoreham hotel. “We will never have the elite, smart people on our side.”
The media “doesn’t like the other side,” Santorum said. “And not necessarily, I would argue, because they agree with them, but because they can influence the country.
“If just a few people make decisions about what this world looks like, what this country looks like, then you have people sitting in offices at major media outlets and Hollywood who think they can deal with a small group of people, to get them to jump through the hoops they want you to,” Santorum said.
Santorum also criticized the libertarian wing of the Republican party for not supporting what he sees as the pillars of conservatism: religion and family.
“When it comes to conservatism libertarian types can say, oh, well you know, we don’t want to talk about social issues,” Santorum said. “Without the church and the family, there is no conservative movement, there is no basic values of America.”
Cookemom, it isn’t just you. The guy was always an embarrassment as a PA senator and now he’s gotten just plain crazy and incoherent. He sounds like an old man in the wilderness ranting at the wind and rain. Of course, he’s never going to get smart people to agree with him. No sane ones either.

It is really cool that they’ve created “The Question” video because it brilliantly (as always for them) captures the essence of now v 2008 and just how deep in the cow manure #BainMitt is regarding the answer to ‘The Question’ …
It is as if Sheldon Adelson is prepared to do almost anything, in addition to donating money, for President Barack Obama to be ousted from office.
13 September 12 10:56, Matti Golan
What is the connection between the Netanyahu-Obama-Romney triangle and the latest Iran controversy? Is the answer peace in Israel and the world, or is the connection Sheldon Adelson?
Fact: Adelson is one of the biggest donors and supporters of Republican candidate for president Mitt Romney. Adelson is investing not only money, but a lot of passion and desire as well. He is acting like a man for whom the ouster of President Barack Obama from office is more important than his health; as if it is the last thing that he wants to achieve in his life. It is as if he is prepared to do almost anything, in addition to donating money, for that to happen.
Iran and the Jews
Fact: One of the things that Romney really needs is the support of the Jews, whose votes in key swing states could decide the election. But Jewish support traditionally goes to the Democrats. What can be done to change that this time?
Fact: Almost all US Jews vote for the candidate who they think will be good for Israel. Who decides this? Mostly Israel itself, of course. In other words: the prime minister of Israel.
Netanyahu for Adelson-Romney
Fact: Adelson is the biggest patron of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (and of his family). Adelson believes that Netanyahu’s leadership is essential for the existence of the Jewish people. He does not merely think this; he acts on it. Donations? That’s obvious. But he does for Netanyahu something that no other rich man has probably ever done for the candidate he supports: Adelson established a newspaper for Netanyahu (and his family). Adelson bought journalists to write only praise for the prime minister (and his family); journalists, who after all of Netanyahu’s talk, “explain” how right he is. Journalists who cannot, in other words do not dare, find any flaw in Netanyahu’s deeds and decisions.
Nothing.
“Adelson (Israel) Today”
The newspaper “Adelson (Israel) Today” has a very large circulation, not because of its quality, of which it has none, but because it is free; a free newspaper. Now “Adelson pays”. Huge sums; and I write as a man who knows how much money a newspaper consumes. But “Adelson Pays” and pays, and pays. For Netanyahu (and his family).
It’s Adelson, stupid
Fact: Let us get back to Romney. A remark or hint by Netanyahu that Obama is bad for Israel is worth something to Romney⦠maybe the presidency. Repeated hints that Obama will do nothing about Iran, or that “Hillary Clinton is expediting the centrifuges” – their value to Romney in gold cannot be estimated. A serious crisis with the Americans and confrontations with their officials sends a message: Obama is bad – and not just for the Jews. For humanity. For the universe. He is a dangerous man. He is firing up the centrifuges. He is bringing closer a nuclear Holocaust on Israel, and maybe on America, too.
The conclusion: Vote for Romney, just like Adelson wants.
Hmmm . . Adelson stated he plans to spend 100 million to see Romney elected. Of course, he’s already spent 50 million on the situation in the Middle East. You know, the one that led to the death of a US Ambassador, and four American servicemen and spurred protests in various countries in the region. Of course, PBO already knows all of this. Nixon did this same thing with Vietnam. Romney & Adelson are pulling from his playbook. I think it will all fall apart as the FBI/CIA/NSA, DIA continues their investigation into the connection between the inflammatory YouTube vid and the ME crisis. Their findings will not bode well for Netanyahu. This was an operation by the GOPKKK, K*Koch brothers, Adelson, MITTNOCCHIO, and members of his campaign team.
I think the idea that all American Jews will vote simply on the basis of what Netanyahu says is completely wrong. There are some portion of American Jews that may put Israel first, but many more use their common sense and good judgment when they vote, just like the rest of us.
PBO has HUGE lead over MITTNOCCHIO among Jewish voters. Two Jewish brothers were among the three who died trying to register blacks voters in Miss during the Civil Rights movement. Racebaiting and hatemongering would turn off most Jewish voters to MITTNOCCHIO. The other problem for MITTNOCCHIO is the fact their faith tradition calls on them to help less fortunate among us, something totally antithetical to the GOP policy agenda.
Yeah. I think that Jewish Americans vote solely on Isreal is bogus, too. Obama holds a decisive lead even as we speak. What might be true, though, is older Jews in places like Florida might be frightened my this Adelson business. I guess we need Sarah Silverman videos again.
Senator Barbara Boxer has written letter to BiBi regarding the Presidents strong support for Israel. It is a request for him to clarify what he means that America is not supporting. Very Interesting letter, I am proud of her.http://forward.com/articles/162738/barbara-boxer-hits-out-at-netanyahu/
No, df. The original YouTube posting of the #BainMitt dinner party video that described a Chinese sweat shop that he did actually purchase was made under the user name of Rachel Maddow. It had received more than 60000 views in less than 72 h when MSNBC and Maddow succeeded in getting the account canceled. Whomever ‘Anne Onymous’ is, that person had claimed that they have a much longer version of the video (these clips suggest that that is true) and were offering to share it with all corporate media folk. We’ll see …
since registering people to vote is so critical at this time, we should help to remind potential voters about the registration deadlines in each state.
That is an interesting, articled, amk. It’s rather sad (for the U.S.) when Al Jazeera has better news articles than U.S. newspapers. The message: beware the banalities of extremists, both Christian and Islamist. Don’t let them hijack the truly democratic desires of the Arab Spring.

This may be the best ad yet that the Obama campaign has put out. The ad balances reminding people where we were in 2008 with where we are in 2012. It is also contains some subtle contrasts that are very effective. By linking Romneyās plan for the economy to the collapse of 2008 while using Bill Clinton to link Obamaās growth to past prosperity, the Obama campaign is sending the message to voters that Romney will undo the progress that has been made under this president. The second contrast involves the repetition of the word forward at the end of the ad. The message is clear. Obama equals forward. Romney equals backward.
