Suh-weet! 🙂 The date works beautifully, but do we have to meet at The Mall? How about in the hotel lobby? I mean, how am I going to recognize you in your Obama sweatshirt among all that other Obama paraphernalia? 😉
In an interview with Telemundo, President Barack Obama showed his annoyance with Morsi:
” “I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we don’t consider them an enemy,” the president said.
“I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident,” Obama said.
“Certainly in this situation, what we’re going to expect is that they are responsive to our insistence that our embassy is protected, our personnel is protected,” Obama said.
.
.
So Obama was technically correct that Egypt is not an ally in the sense that Britain or even Turkey is. But unlike what some media outlets wrote, this statement was no gaffe. Rather, Obama was playing hardball with Morsi, trying to impress upon him that the status of ‘major non-NATO ally’ is not automatic now that the Muslim Brotherhood is in control. It will have to be re-earned, at least from Obama’s point of view. And the lack of response on the embassy attack is not consistent with ally status. Non-NATO ally status is bestowed by a stroke of the presidential pen, so Obama could take it away.
.
.
Under Obama’s pressure, Morsi, in Brussels seeking European aid, finally explicitly condemned Tuesday’s attack on the US embassy in Egypt:

This is great news! Although what is with all the court rulings overriding legislation? I have never seen so much in my life as I have the last 5-10 years. I’m not comfortable with the trend but maybe it’s always been the case?
I agree and I have no idea. I don’t understand who has jurisdiction and I didn’t know that these judges could intervene as randomly and as often as they do. Now I gotta pay more attention to these judges we vote for but how the heck does a person know their positions on things. This voting process is definitely screwed up in this “imperfect union”! Dems need to go on the offense on electoral reform to make it easier and more understandable.
It has always been the case. It is part of the checks and balances of our government. Remember that there were laws on the books in this country that outlawed interracial marriage, relegated African-Americans to second class citizenship through segregation and these laws were overturned through the court system (for example Brown v. Board of Education). If challenged, a law must be deemed to be Constitutional. The courts are tasked with determining constitutionality of our laws.
Right but you would think the constitutionality would have been worked out before it became law. There’s enough damn lawayers in this country to get that issue resolved first. And, since it was unconstitional why did it take this long to be overturned? That whole recall election could have been avoided.
Lawmakers often push to the limits of the present Constitutional limits (for example look at all the laws being introduced by the GOP that infringe on woman’s right to abortion granted via Roe v. Wade without explicitly outlawing abortion). The courts serve a valuable role in determining whether or not the law goes too far and impinges on constitutional rights. That is another reason why elections matter because judges appointed or elected serve a very important role in our system of government. It is also why the make up of the Supreme Court is vitally important, because they are the final arbitor of a law’s Constitutionality. In the scheme of things, it did not take a long time for the law to be deemed Unconstitutional (it was less than 2years). Segregation was the law of the land for decades, let’s keep things in perspective.
Well said eric. “Lawmakers” by necessity of reality have to be populist and will try push what they think their voting public wants. The judiciary is there to check their “enthusiasm” if it crosses boundary. That’s why it is very important to have a very sane judiciary. This is how democracy works.
Since President Obama was elected it seems the GOP states have been passing laws to ensure he is never re-elected – the decimation of unions is one of Gov Walker’s aims in that direction. Unions were and are a force in dem politics.
Republican lawmakers (in Michigan anyway) seem not to be the least concerned with constitutionality. They just want to push their agenda through, then get out and make big bucks as lobbyists. They do not care about governing and they do not care about reelection (many of them). Thanks, term limits. They get in for a few years, walk out into cushy jobs with lifetime government pensions and health care.

(Reuters) – Google Inc rejected a request by the White House on Friday to reconsider its decision to keep online a controversial YouTube movie clip that has ignited anti-American protests in the Middle East.
The Internet company said it was censoring the video in India and Indonesia after blocking it on Wednesday in Egypt and Libya, where U.S. embassies have been stormed by protestors enraged over depiction of the Prophet Mohammad as a fraud and philanderer.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were killed in a fiery siege on the embassy in Benghazi.
Google said was further restricting the clip to comply with local law rather than as a response to political pressure.
“We’ve restricted access to it in countries where it is illegal such as India and Indonesia, as well as in Libya and Egypt, given the very sensitive situations in these two countries,” the company said. “This approach is entirely consistent with principles we first laid out in 2007.”
White House officials had asked Google earlier on Friday to reconsider whether the video had violated YouTube’s terms of service. The guidelines can be viewed here
Google said on Wednesday that the video was within its guidelines.
U.S. authorities said on Friday that they were investigating whether the film’s producer, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a 55-year old Egyptian Coptic Christian living in Southern California, had violated terms of his prison release. Basseley was convicted in 2010 for bank fraud and released from prison on probation last June.
When at least 20 of our embassies are being attacked, I do not think this is a matter of “politics” as Goggle rationalizes, but a matter of national security and patriotism. Mighty short-sighted of them and unAmerican. My opinion.
Everybody, please stop freaking out over the polls. PBO is doing better just about everywhere than he was in 2008 at this same point in time. Look at trends, and the trendlines are all going PBO’s way. Expect slight changes both ways but it the trend that matters.
As PBO would say “Chill out, I got this.” Okay, slightly edited.
Everyone agrees with polls that have their candidate in front – and have issues with those against their man. Nate Silver still has the best statistical analysis and shows all the polls that form part of his calculations. His model rates them as to left/right leaning – the WSJ/NBC/Marist polls are rated as 1 point towards dems in his analysis.
His statistical chat about the polls is worth a read (I ignore his political chat – but the stats side is good)
Sept. 13: After Convention Bounce, Holding Obama’s Polls to a Higher Standard
“….The Marist polls probably did meet that standard. But there were also two other polls of Ohio released on Thursday that showed Mr. Obama up only one point instead, along with a trio of Florida polls showing a tie there, on average.”

President Barack Obama is extending his lead with Jewish voters, leading among registered voters 70-25 percent according to unreleased Gallup daily tracking poll data .
The data, obtained through a Democratic source, shows Obama up from leading 64-29 in polling this spring — and on par with his 2008 performance at this point when he led 69-25 over John McCain in Gallup polling. The data is drawn from tracking polls taken between July 1 and September 10th.
Probably Jovie, I’d reckon Romney and Co freaked when they saw their internal polls on the Jewish vote, so made a call to their best buddy. His attempted interference in this election is extraordinary.
Romney camp walks back Mitt’s definition of the middle class and makes it worse:
STEVE PEOPLES, Associated Press
BOSTON (AP) — Mitt Romney is promising to reduce taxes on middle-income Americans.
But how does he define “middle-income”? The Republican presidential nominee defined it Friday as income of $200,000 to $250,000 a year and less.
The definition of “middle income” or the “middle class” is politically charged as Romney and President Barack Obama fight to win over working-class voters. Romney would be among the wealthiest presidents, if elected, and Democrats have repeatedly painted him as out of touch with average people.
Obama also has set his definition for “middle class” as families with income of up to $250,000 a year.[…]
His campaign later clarified that Romney was referencing household income, not individual income.
The Census Bureau reported this week that the median household income — the midpoint for the nation — is just over $50,000.
I went to Muckety to see if they had anything on the “Media for Christ” organization or that guy “Sam Becile”. Nothing on either of them, but I found this unrelated little tidbit

Elaine Chao, the wage earner in Mitch McConnell’s household
By Laurie Bennett
September 14, 2012 at 9:56am
“Few people are in greater demand in the corporate board room than Elaine Chao. She brings significant government and nonprofit experience – as Peace Corps director under George H.W. Bush, labor secretary under George W. Bush, and president and CEO of the United Way.
She is also married to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Chao sits on the boards of three Fortune 1000 companies – Dole Food, Protective Life, and Wells Fargo. Next month, shareholders of News Corp. will vote on her nomination to join their board, which would increase her Fortune 1000 membership to four.
According to proxy statements, Chao received more than $340,000 last year for her corporate director posts, in addition to income as a public speaker, a fellow at the Heritage Foundation and a contributor on Fox News…”
shit like that bugs the hell outta me — reporters who feel the need to tweet inane personal stuff. I’m not following them for useless “I’m in Philly, where should I eat?” stupid tweets. Anderson Cooper sends out so many stupid personal tweets that I unfollowed. Nate’s a nerd and all I want from him is the score – don’t need any of his pretzel twisted hedging lameass commentary or dumbass tweets.
he would be more effective partnering up with OFA and doing stuff like Eva and Kerry to harness his popularity and using it to garner votes for PBO. that would be more positive and more effective. this bullshit is just that. BULLSHIT! 🙄
ps- he pisses me off in general, don’t need to click on this link to know i don’t like it.
I take up Chris Cilliza’s mind-boggling post on WAPO explaining why they refuse to move Ohio to “lean Obama” despite the decisive polls showing Pres Obama leading in the state. Here’s the main reason he gives:
Romney’s campaign simply will not walk away from Ohio. They understand that to pull money out of Ohio would be regarded as something between capitulation and panic — neither words they want associated with their candidate in the final 50 (or so) days between now and the election. Ohio is the crown jewel — electorally speaking — of the industrial Midwest, a region hit hard over the past decade by the collapse of the manufacturing sector among other economic hardships. Putting aside the symbolic importance of Ohio, there is also a practical reason to believe that the Romney campaign will spend every dime they have to try to win the state. With neither Michigan or Pennsylvania seemingly where the GOP would like them to be in terms of competitiveness, Ohio’s 18 electoral votes become all the more critical.
Yeah, showing Romney losing Ohio will hurt Romney’s fee fees. Not FACTS
The latest offensive will come today, when the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee releases a commercial casting New York Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle as a Ryan pawn. “Only in Washington would this happen. Ann Marie Buerkle voted to increase taxes on middle-class families by $1,400. And where does the money go? To give millionaires a $265,000 tax cut,” the ad says as a picture of Ryan flashes on screen. “It’s Paul Ryan’s plan — and Anne Marie Buerkle voted for it.”
I read what President Obama said about those intelligence briefings after he was elected: the information he got as a candidate did not come near being what he got as president. The morning after the election he was hit with stuff he never dreamed of. Even our intelligence community knows not to get the full story out to candidates.
The TEAGOP are also too uneducated….those who claim to be SO religious…..that Barak (different spelling, same name) was a prophet in the Old Testament. This is an ancient middle Eastern name. These people are always talking about the Bible, but not reading it, or absorbing it.
The Kansas birther is dropping his objection to Obama being on the Nov. ballot. Isn’t that nice??? Even crazier than this nutball is the Kansas board which said they needed more information before they could make a decision on including Obama on the ballot or not. Hate and insanity all over the place. http://www.kansascity.com/2012/09/14/3815393/manhattan-man-drops-challenge.html
I hope all world leaders have their eyes on this election. I hope they go down on their knees everyday and pray to whatever God or Gods they believe in, that That Ass doesn’t cheat his way into the presidency of these united states. I hope they realize he’s a liar and a cheat. he’s unstable and unfit. he’s not trustworthy. he has no core. he’s reckless and worthless. he’d be a bad president for us and a dangerous vermin on the world stage.
Lisa – they will and they do – but most (excluding the right wing war monger) realize they have to stay well out of “taking sides” at this point in time – there will be a collective outpouring of love, friendship congratulations when the President is re-elected.
Llo, i think they are (praying), and not only the world leaders. Jeebus, they’d have us all in war again. If, God forbid, that should hapen and those war mongers sons/daughters have to go FIRST. Also I’ll add narcissistic to your list.
President Barack Obama, followed by Chaplain Colonel J. Wesley Smith and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, walks towards the podium during the transfer of remains ceremony at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, Sept. 14, 2012, marking the return to the United States of the remains of the four Americans killed this week in Benghazi, Libya. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)
Just an incredibly photo of the quiet sadness in the air. Thanks for posting it Chips. I was just a mess this afternoon watching the ceremony. I was telling my brother later today that I rarely cry and for some reason I couldn’t stop; perhaps it was the mournful music mixed with the dignity of the ceremony. Even when Sec Clinton was speaking – for some reason she rarely moves me but today she did and the sadness in her eyes was tough to watch. She and President Obama paid their respects to the fallen in a way that only kind and good leaders instinctively know how to do.
Between Rev. Al and Chris Matthews I’m so depressed and emotional……don’t get me wrong, I am so glad that both of them took on the deranged, sick, hate filled right….but…..it’s just so sad to see this segment of the population has become so powerful. As Chris Matthews says, “Something Smells”…..I know during the last election we had to put up with Sarah Palin’s viciousness…but after being mad about it, it became funny…..It is no longer funny and every time you turn the tv on, or read news, it’s IN YOUR FACE…..having said all this….Where did Joy Reid come from….My God, why isn’t she on every single Meet The Press and EVERY political talk show on every network….She is Dynamite.
They are the soon to be 6 feet under. They are Not the majority. Hate dwarfs, and it is a stagnation of mental retardation. They are at their last throes. They have nothing. They also know that they are NOT winning. Hence, their feverish, unhinged behavior. Brush them off your shoulders and move on. They are the ones with stress. Let Us work harder and get our goals…..completed. Re-electing pres Obama and getting him a congress that he can work with.
I called polled today by an outfit called “Opinionology” of Utah which is a ” Virginia-based non-profit new models” firm. I’m thinking to myself, just call it the “Mitt-ROMNEY-POLLING- COMPANY-AND-WE’RE-TRYING-TO-GET-INFO-IN-ORDER-TO-MANIPULATE-VOTERS-AND-THE-NEWS CYCLE-AND-GAME-THE-DAMN-ELECTION.”
They asked me a whole bunch of questions about how I felt about the economy, am I better off or worse off, are things moving in the right direction or wrong direction. They asked me how I felt about Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, Democrats in congress and Republicans in congress. They asked whether I approved of the job that PBO is doing, and whether I agree with is position on the economy. They wanted me to give them one or two specific examples of what I had seen or heard about congressional Repubs which made me have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of them. Ditto for congressional Dems. They then wanted to know where I got my news/political info from. I gave strong approval/favorability for PBO and his economic policies, somewhat approval of Clinton and congressional Dems, and strong disapproval/unfavorability of Willard and his economic policies, and congressional Repubs.

Obama Plays Hardball and Egypt’s Morsi Folds

In an interview with Telemundo, President Barack Obama showed his annoyance with Morsi:
” “I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we don’t consider them an enemy,” the president said.

Rasmussen has Robney up 3 and Gallup is trending back toward Robney.
I tell you, those 2 polls are crazy.
49 – 44 on Gallup today. It was 49 – 43 yesterday. I wouldn’t quite declare that “trending” back to Romney and we all know that Rasmussen is a joke.
I’m sure Rassmussen is panicking and is trying to move the narrative again. But the other pollsters just may not play along.
Rasmussen is also used by RCP, TPM, and many others, including DK…..that always screws the average numbers for pres and the Dems.
Real clear politics has Gallup at the President +3!
Hmmmmm… is there some other Gallup poll other than this one? http://www.gallup.com/home.aspx
RCP’s trend has PBO at +3. Gallup is still at +5.
Real Clear Politics leans to the right.
RCP is always trying to manipulate the average numbers. The outfit is owned now by Forbes, I think.
This is down to a few States….ignore those National polls….they are meaningless at this point.
I agree, but those 2 Polls are discounting a whole lot of Democrats.
I see him at +5 on this site:http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

Obama up only one point instead, along with a trio of Florida polls showing a tie there, on average.”
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/14/sept-13-after-convention-bounce-holding-obamas-polls-to-a-higher-standard
Bottom line – the President has a 78%/ 91% chance of re-election in Nate’s statistical models
I hope there is a photo of Hillary reaching over to hold the President’s hand today.
Nut ‘N Yahoo going on Meet The Pooper on Sunday to scare Americans and drum up war with Iran. Fucking asshole. I hate that fucker, almost as much as I hate Willard.
http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/benjamin-netanyahu-to-appear-on-meet-press-sunday
I hate David Gregory for allowing this Guy to go on tv.
Gregory and the Republicans, seem to think Israel is the 51st State…
Gregory needs to go. these next 6-7 weeks need to fucking go very, very fast. this is some bullshit and I’m getting damned tired of it. that fucker. Willard Romney is really really working my last nerve.
I think we need to start calling out these enablers in the media – call them out by NAME to the point of harassment. Let everyone know that we see right through their dirty agenda and we’re not going to tolerate it.
David Gregory has proven himself over and over as being fair and even-handed so I have no doubt he has invited Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for a free-ranging interview as well./snark
Ha! That cretin. :sneer: It should be an all out fluff-fest. Gregory will be stroking Yeti so much, I doubt RWing trolls will be able to contain themselves.
Wisconsin judge strikes down law that ended collective bargaining rights
Law that led to push to recall governor Scott Walker is found unconstitutional after two public-workers unions sue

Breaking :
Judge strikes down Wisconsin anti-union law as Un-constitional at both State and Federal level.
Excellent news!
So, the People who preach the Constitution, are consistently getting beat in Court?
Yay!
Look at these figures!!
The data is drawn from tracking polls taken between July 1 and September 10th.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/zekejmiller/obama-extends-lead-with-jewish-voters
Which is why Bibi is going on MTP? To scare American Jews?
As Jodi Kantor would say: Hmmm……
Probably Jovie, I’d reckon Romney and Co freaked when they saw their internal polls on the Jewish vote, so made a call to their best buddy. His attempted interference in this election is extraordinary.
after PBO wins re-election, I hope he squeezes Yeti’s nuts so hard, they pop outta there sacs. asshole.
Lisa – what a picture you paint in my mind!
Oh Lisa…LAWD! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! A very unique visual… 🙂 🙂 🙂
The Census Bureau reported this week that the median household income — the midpoint for the nation — is just over $50,000.
http://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2012/09/14/romney-says-middle-income-250k-and-below

AND she was the worst Labor Secretary we have ever had!
I refuse to believe she and McTurtle have a real marriage. there is something deeply wrong going on there.
Little Nate wants us to know.
huh? this guy……….
shit like that bugs the hell outta me — reporters who feel the need to tweet inane personal stuff. I’m not following them for useless “I’m in Philly, where should I eat?” stupid tweets. Anderson Cooper sends out so many stupid personal tweets that I unfollowed. Nate’s a nerd and all I want from him is the score – don’t need any of his pretzel twisted hedging lameass commentary or dumbass tweets.
this poll came out today?
Yes.
good. thanks.
Not to be outdone, the Romney camp says polls show Romney is seen as the candidate more voters can trust to be an international crisis.
LOL.
I lOve Chipotle, I eat there 5x per month, I wanted you to know.
I’ve never eaten at Chipotle, but I heard it’s good.
Anyway, what I really wanted you to know is that seeing Michael Steele’s face on MSNBC right now is just irritating me.
Me too. Love it!
Here is a message from Samuel L. Jackson-
http://www.politico.com/blogs/click/2012/09/samuel-l-jackson-wake-the-fk-up-vote-obama-135551.html
This is to everybody…
Sigh!
he would be more effective partnering up with OFA and doing stuff like Eva and Kerry to harness his popularity and using it to garner votes for PBO. that would be more positive and more effective. this bullshit is just that. BULLSHIT! 🙄
ps- he pisses me off in general, don’t need to click on this link to know i don’t like it.
I still hold out hope that one day he’ll actually do something (… anything) with a little class. Sigh!
Wasn’t he on some talk show recently talking shitty about POTUS? Or maybe it wasn’t him.
Yes. It was earlier this year or perhaps late last year. Sigh!
VIRGINIA POLL: New poll puts Obama ahead of Romney, Tim Kaine (former DNC Chair and former VA Governor) and George Allen (R) tied for Senate!!! http://wtvr.com/2012/09/14/new-poll-puts-obama-ahead-of-romney-kaine-and-allen-tied/
Tim Kaine for Senate
http://www.kaineforva.com/2012
Here’s the pleasant surprise (besides the poll results), Tim Kaine has the money advantage (at least the direct campaign; no telling about the dark money): http://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary.php?id=VAS1&cycle=2012
We NEED that Senate seat!!!
Folks please check out my new diary up on the Rec list on Dailykos — http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/09/14/1131974/-WAPO-won-t-move-OH-to-Lean-Obama-cuz-it-would-hurt-Romney-s-fee-fees
I take up Chris Cilliza’s mind-boggling post on WAPO explaining why they refuse to move Ohio to “lean Obama” despite the decisive polls showing Pres Obama leading in the state. Here’s the main reason he gives:
Yeah, showing Romney losing Ohio will hurt Romney’s fee fees. Not FACTS
Thanks zizi – excellent diary. Tipped & Rec’d. And congratulations on making the rec list! 🙂
Chris Cillizza is one of the worst GOP propagandists out there.
Thanks Hopefruit2. Cillizza is like Chuck Todd. He so desperately craves to be in the in-crowd on the beltway cocktail circuit
Dem House ads give Ryan leading role — as villain
—————————–
The latest offensive will come today, when the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee releases a commercial casting New York Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle as a Ryan pawn. “Only in Washington would this happen. Ann Marie Buerkle voted to increase taxes on middle-class families by $1,400. And where does the money go? To give millionaires a $265,000 tax cut,” the ad says as a picture of Ryan flashes on screen. “It’s Paul Ryan’s plan — and Anne Marie Buerkle voted for it.”
————————–
http://thepaulryanwatch.blogspot.com/2012/09/dem-house-ads-give-ryan-leading-role-as.html
he is a villain. I hope he loses his congressional seat as well as the candidacy for the VPship. Ass.
the fact that they’ll have intelligence briefings scares the shit outta me, much more than when Sistuh Sarah was a loose canon under McBeth.
Can’t you just imagine them looking at each other for direction? Fohkin eeejits.
I read what President Obama said about those intelligence briefings after he was elected: the information he got as a candidate did not come near being what he got as president. The morning after the election he was hit with stuff he never dreamed of. Even our intelligence community knows not to get the full story out to candidates.

Boy, Virginia really IS a mixed bag! This is sad.

UPDATED: Chesterfield schools pass on visit from First Lady (video included)
http://wtvr.com/2012/09/13/chesterfield-county-schools-pass-on-visit-from-first-lady/
To hell with them. They probably got some threats from some very influential “friends” of the school.
The TEAGOP are also too uneducated….those who claim to be SO religious…..that Barak (different spelling, same name) was a prophet in the Old Testament. This is an ancient middle Eastern name. These people are always talking about the Bible, but not reading it, or absorbing it.
Freaking awesome.
He got upset cause folks were against his idea and explained that to him – not very politely
Great toons chips.
Tell it!
ummm lisa. Aren’tya kinda pushing your responsibilities to the shoulders of the rest of the world ? 🙂
hey, where Petunia is concerned? we are ALL in this together. If he wins, we ALL lose, both here and abroad. So lets join hands and pray!!!
I posted a poll yesterday where 81% of rest of the world said they would vote for Obama. So we are good. 🙂
Lisa – they will and they do – but most (excluding the right wing war monger) realize they have to stay well out of “taking sides” at this point in time – there will be a collective outpouring of love, friendship congratulations when the President is re-elected.
Good evening all.
Llo, i think they are (praying), and not only the world leaders. Jeebus, they’d have us all in war again. If, God forbid, that should hapen and those war mongers sons/daughters have to go FIRST. Also I’ll add narcissistic to your list.
Signed!
An amazing silhouette of who loves the USA and all its people.
I’m grateful to him for his compassionate, steady leadership in times of crisis.
GET RID OF THIS DO NOTHING CONGRESS!!!!

A smirking twosome in that picture – ghastly
Is POTUS campaigning this weekend?
No. he resumes on Monday. Guy must be emotionally drained. he needs to re-charge. But I suspect he’ll be hunkered down absorbing intelligence reports
New post everyone:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/09/14/michelle-2/
Have never been polled. I would love to answer their questions.
