I’m trying to imagine Miss Ann in all these photoes, in the place of FLOTUS – but it’s impossible. At the very least, the expressions on the kids’ faces would not be nearly as delighted.

muscatinegal, don’t even think or say such a thing. Let Queen Ann go back to her many mansions and dancing horses. We have the First Lady we need right now.

      • September 13, 2012 at 5:38 pm

No, of course we don’t want Miss Ann anywhere but home doing GOP laundry! I just meant trying to see her interact with anyone that looks different than her, in a sincere manner with some warmth.

Those 2nd and 3rd pictures… she looks horrified! LOL!

Not true japa21; you would rise to the occasion (your voice might be a little shaky or squealy at first, lol) warmly grasp her hand, give her a big hug (she and our Prez luv hugs) and at the end of the day, you and she’d be like best buddies!

Am watching Chris Matthews currently and he has on two foreign affairs specialists. I have an eiry feeling about the Jimmy Carter comparison and the embassy protests with Romney pushing weakness and these comparisons. Remember we found out later that Reagan’s people made a deal with Iran to not release the prisoners until after his Inauguration? I hope the not adding up part and the coincidences do not represent GOP monkey business. Who is the movie maker? I hope he is not tied to the GOP somehow.

      September 13, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Come on guys, what is up with you. There is no way in hell this is any camparison to Jimmy Carter. Why even think things like that, PLEASE.

      • 18 hopefruit2
        September 13, 2012 at 5:54 pm

Obama Grandmama is not comparing PBO to Carter – she is saying that the MEDIA & GOP are trying (albeit unsuccessfully) to create a scenario reminiscent of Jimmy Carter and Iran. But I agree with Obama Grandmama that we might find out (at some point) that the movie maker is tied to the GOP.

The truth is that Obama is NOT Carter; Romney is not Reagan, and most importantly 2012 is NOT 1980. Whatever the GOP (and their friends in the military, or MSM) are trying or hoping for, it WON’T work. It will not help Mitt Romney win in Nov.

Thank you, anniebella. We cannot let ‘all over the place’ Matthews skew us with his current emotion. Remain steadfast. We’ve GOT this!

My suggestion: STOP watching these paid corporate pundits. You do know that they are paid by their corporate masters. How do they get ratings? Keep some controversy going. Stir the pot. Matthews is the worst person I’ve ever seen who blows with the win. He’s almost as bad as Romney when it comes to sticking to a belief.

Just bringing my post over from the last thread:
    Hi All at TOD!!

I just came across this while on Huffpost and knowing we donโ€™t link them, if Chips is OK with it, thanks for approving:

There some hilarious posts on that Huffpost story titled: โ€˜The Most Interesting Man In The World,โ€™ Dos Equisโ€™ Jonathan Goldsmith, Hosts Obama Fundraiser
Here are some of the posts of people imitating Goldsmith:

โ€œNot only are his tax returns public, they regularly top the best-seller lists and have been translated into 28 languages. โ€
โ€œThe Most Interesting Man does not talk to empty chairs. As he once said, that is for old, forgetful menโ€ฆ. โ€
โ€œI donโ€™t always endorse a Presidential candidate, but when I do I prefer Barack Obamaโ€

I think it is hilarious the ingenuity of the posts on that story. Hope you all have a good laugh!!

Libya Arrests Four In Embassy Killings

The Libyan government has arrested four suspects in the 9/11 attack on the U.S. Embassy that killed four Americans including Ambassador Chris Stevens, vindicating President Obama’s declaration on Wednesday that the United States was not going to walk away from a newly liberated Libya because of a terrorist attack.

I usually don’t email you — but I have an amazing invitation I have to share.

Jay and I will be meeting up with President Obama for an evening in NYC sometime soon. And we want you to be there!

Until midnight tonight, if you pitch in $13 or whatever you can, you’ll be automatically entered to be flown out to join us.

I’ve had the honor of meeting President Obama and the First Lady a few times — and believe me — it’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss.

Don’t worry about the airfare and hotel, it’s taken care of. And you can bring a guest.

But the countdown is on — this opportunity ends at midnight:

    Can’t wait to meet you!

WSJ/Marist polls 59% to 34% on PBO better on foreign matters. PBO up +2 on Mitt on the economy and jobs.

    Dear Mitt,
Thank you for your unmitigated gall to think that you are entitled to be Prez. While you went flailing all over the place like a one legged man in a kicking contest, PBO never missed a beat. Now in desperation, you’ve taken to embarrassing yourself once again in front of the international community. You’re shaming your fellow Pubs and even the teabutts are holding their noses. Ask Ann if it’s ok to just quit now before your kids and grandkids have to wear paperbags on their heads to leave the house.

This new poll shows that Pres. Obama’s post convention bounce is not a “sugar high” as much as team Romney would like it to be, but is very very very real. Team Romney should be afraid.

Tweety, Toad, and all those newstainers make me sick! Why the “F” can’t they just report the “f”ing numbers without the snarky commentary. Robme didn’t get a bounce so PBO doesn’t deserve a bounce, the GOP had a shitty convention, Dems had an exceptionally great convention….NO NEED FOR FUTURE Conventions if both party’s don’t have exceptionally great conventions because “both” sides have to be exactly the same.

Writing this comment I just got an epiphany….This is the way Americans think now. You know how when kids have birthday parties and although the kid whose birthday it is and they get gifts, so that the children don’t feel slighted in any way, parents buy “gift bags” to the children who attend the party……we can’t let the kid who is having the special day enjoy all the attention, we need to make sure the other kids don’t “feel” left out and unworthy. The Newstainers don’t want Robme to feel left out and unworthy.

Oh, so now according to the MSM, conventions don’t matter – because the “bounce” is not real? Chuck Todd himself said that he expected a “bounce” of about 3pts, but so far, the bounce is more than 3pts, not just nationally, but also in battleground states.

Now Tweety is looking to the debates as Willard’s possible saving grace? HAHAHAHAHA!

    September 13, 2012 at 7:44 pm

ok – this is in response to a post upthread from ObamaGrandmama – and the Carter Comparison and the Reagan Iran Contra deals…..

There’s ALL KINDS of wrong going on with Mitt and the poison that has been coming out of his mouth, especially the last 48 hours.

    – His first statement, using the word “ATTACKS” (note the pural), was released after the Cairo Embassy statement, but BEFORE any knowledge of the attacks on Benghazi were released. Mitt is NOT briefed on anything at this point. He had no access to any official information. HOW DID HE KNOW? He also made the colossal mistake of using the plural of ATTACK. At the time, the only ATTACK that had occurred was in Libya. HOW DID HE KNOW THERE WOULD BE MORE?

    – His first statement not only LIED about the sitting President Of The United States, it LIED about the statement itself, saying it was an apology, when it clearly wasn’t.

    – His press conference on 9/12 doubled-down on the LIE, while he SMIRKED, then walked away HAPPY, SMIRKING, even though a US Ambassador, along with three other Americans, and ten Libyans were dead.

    – Sheldon Adelson is Mitt’s biggest donor.

    – Sheldon Adelson wants a war with Iran more than anything on Earth (along with a Presidential Pardon for international money laundering, other illegal activities with the Chinese mafia….. and God knows what else at this point.)

    – Mitt is STILL LYING. Even after being called out by 90% of the GOP.

    – There is talk all over the news that these attacks were orchestrated, and planned, with the (really bad video fail) as a false cause to hide behind.

    – Who funded the (video fail)?

    – Who funded the terrorists and armed them?

    – Why is Mitt trying to instill a sense of weakness regarding the government he wants to run, especially when there are not only Americans in harm’s way, but foreign civilians who actually LIKE US NOW because of President Obama?

    – Why is Mitt trying to BUY the Presidency?

    – Why doesn’t Mitt care that he fails to show one shred of decency or empathy?

    – Why doesn’t Mitt care that he doesn’t understand the first thing about handling International Protocol?

    – Why is Mitt trying to conflagrate an already hot and tense situation?

    – Does Mitt not realize that Reagan was OUTTED for making illegal deals with Iran over American Hostages?

    – Does Mitt believe no one remembers that??

    – Just how fucking stupid is Mitt Romney?

    • September 13, 2012 at 7:52 pm

Excellent Tally. Suggest you Tweet a link to this comment to Axelrod, Cutter, Lawrence, Bashir, etc.

Those of us who track Tweets from Egypt and Libya knew stuff was happening well before the corporate US media mentioned anything but it’s unlikely that that was #SmirkinMitt’s resource, but it still would not explain the timing of his statement as you note above.

We asked the same question a few threads back about the timeline of R’s statement and the attacks….I’m so glad I didn’t read that wrong….Why isn’t anyone not making an issue of this…..he also kept calling Lybia’s attack on embassy when it was a consulate b/c it’s not the capital…I’m not a conspiracy theorist but damn, this is really WIERD……

The WSJ/Marist numbers are through last Tuesday and are considered part of the DNC bounce. That still doesn’t include Mitt’s horrible week. So as bad as these numbers are for Mitt, they’re going to be worse after yesterday. Clinton is getting the credit for the improved right track/wrong track numbers, who cares. That’s not the case of course, but if it makes the pundits happy, oh well.

Senate races in Ohio and Florida look good for Sherrod and Nelson, not as well for Kaine in Virginia.

We still have to volunteer and donate as if we’re 20 points down.

    • 179 hopefruit2
      September 13, 2012 at 7:54 pm

Actually, I don’t buy the “DNC convention bounce” meme. That’s not the whole story. While I do believe there was a bounce, I actually think the numbers were better than we were being led to think – even before the DNC convention. If I recall, there was a lot of finagling with the cross tabs, and using some shady and undisclosed “likely voter” methodology to low ball PBO’s numbers in the weeks prior to the convention.

The MSM now feels comfortable giving Clinton credit for something he really didn’t cause – that’s fine. But what we’re seeing is that the polls are now conforming to what the actual figures will be in November.

      • September 13, 2012 at 8:18 pm

Which many of us have been saying on Twitter for a few months, especially JeffersonObama. This is 2008 again, not 2010; and 2010 won’t happen again for a generation, if ever.

      • 181 AnitaW
        September 13, 2012 at 10:23 pm

In addition, if these numbers are through Tuesday then only Michelle had spoken at that point during the convention. It has not factored in Bill, Joe or Barack’s speeches. Not to mention Mitt’s horrible week. Forward folks. We have to keep working. There is a phone bank at my house this Saturday calling battleground states.

        • 182 hopefruit2
          September 13, 2012 at 10:31 pm

The numbers are based on polling done from Sun (sep 9) through this Tuesday (Sep 11). So the polling factored in the entire convention plus the few days following the convention.

Well, since Chips hasn’t been here since the 13 million mark turned, I will repeat myy suggestion of earlier. She will, rightfully, ask for $13 donations for PBO. I will, in addition, ask for $13 contributions for people running for Congress who can back up PBO for the next 4 years. The DCCC is looking at 60 districts currently with GOP critters that they consider in play We need to flip 25 of them. Let’s make sure they have the funds to flip even more. Give to th DCCC or DSCC or go to their sites to see who can use some funds and give directly or though Act Blue. We3 can do this. Duckworth just got my $13.

That’s a good idea japa. But if I remember correctly, aren’t donations sent in after the last night of the DNC convention automatically going to the DSCC/DCCC for the down ballot candidates, and no longer for PBO?

I’ve donated to both DSCC and DCCC this year and have no problems donating to them again ๐Ÿ™‚

      • 189 cookemom
        September 13, 2012 at 8:15 pm

An individual can donate up to 2300 (I think, may be 2500) total up until PBO accepted the nomination. That money goes into the primary pot. After his acceptance any monies, up to another 2300 goes in the general election pot. Never the two shall meet. I think PBO can direct funds to help downstream candidates with the money as well. It’s not automatic as I understand it. I’m open to be corrected.

    • September 13, 2012 at 8:30 pm

http://www.delbeneforcongress.com/ You won’t find her on Act Blue, though. She’s not ‘progressive’ enough for them (translation, Suzan beat Darcy Burner in the primary). Even still, it is absolutely critical that Suzan wins in the WA-01 to help flip the Congress. She has my unwavering support and she will be great in Congress…a true pragmatist in a moderate district.

I know I’m really late to the game, but Mitt Romney really had some cojones to actually ask his possible unning mates to submit 10 years of tax returns!!!! I guess ambition blinds you because I would have laughed in his face and just said…really. But Paul Ryan, I assume, and presumably the other schmucks agreed to hand ’em over.

Memo to Ezra Klein: The “Obama economy” that you speak of pejoratively is FAR SUPERIOR to any and everything that Mitt Romney has done or could have done on the economic front. So, contrary to the crap you’re peddling about Romney being “unable” to focus on the “Obama economy,” we know very well that Mitt does not want to talk about the “Obama economy.”

Last night I was up late and decided to see who Jimmy Fallon had on his show. Well, I turn it on and who’s sitting there but creepazoid David Gregory. Oooof. And they’re talking about the election.

Now since I haven’t seen this guy in eons, I rely on the opinions of everyone here about what a RWNJ he is on Meet the Republicans every Sunday. Well, I watched him on Fallon for 5 minutes and that was more than enough. He was talking about how people are just now warming up to Romney so he should see his poll numbers improve. THIS IS AFTER ROMNEY’S CRAPTASTIC NOSEDIVE PATHETIC DAY. Fallon – who is obviously a Democrat who would love to kiss the hem of President Obama’s pants (to which I say, get in line) – stifled a GUFFAW and said, warming up? But if he’s going to win, shouldn’t he be HOT right about now?? Gregory smirked and then went on to say well, businessmen favor Romney because Romney is so much better for the economy. There were about 2 people in the whole theater who clapped half-heartedly. OMG – what a hideous display of RW talking points, completely partial to Romney. I don’t know how you guys watch this turd on TV!!

I’m back family. Yes I got the call today. It was reaaaaally short. I only talked to him for like 2 minutes but it was greaaaat.

I’m walking to the metro to drop off voter registration forms from my campus and this blocked number comes up on my phone. So I answer and this guy is like “Hi is this Kayla” and I say “Yes.” He says “I’m calling from Air Force One and I have the President for you, please hold.”

I’m like OMFG! NOT NOW! NOT AROUND ALL THESE PEOPLE! lmfaoooooo. I was totally caught off guard!

So he comes on and he says “Kayla? Heyyy this is Barack.” I’m like OMFG. “Hiiiiiiiiii.” And he thanked me all of the volunteering and stuff. He told me to make sure my campus gets involved. Then I told him I was on my way to the DNC to drop off forms. He said that’s fantastic. Then he said “I heard you’re a ball player.” I said yeah I used to play on a team with boys b/c I’m so aggressive. He said “well there ya go.” LOL. It’s all fuzzy now but he told me he hopes to see me out on the campaign trail soon. I said YEAH I HOPE SO! Then I told him I was at the Easter Egg Roll this year and I shook his hand but he meets so many people that he probably wouldn’t remember me. He laughed. Omg his laugh is so cute.

Ahhh! Then he thanked me again and said bye. It was so quick I didn’t even get to mention TOD ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

But a HUGE THANK YOU to Chips and the wonderful supporters on this blog. This would not have happened if it weren’t for you all.

These articles are propaganda pieces. I take them with a grain of salt. Obama will win this election (All models and polling are clearly pointed in that direction), and contrary to this article, those remaining “undecided” voters are not going to decide the election. Even if they all vote for Romney he will still lose.

Articles like these are designed to convince people that the race is still tight, and possibly to try to erode a few voters from PBO. It’s also a MSM ratings pitch and a peddling of Mitt Romney as a competitive candidate when he isn’t.

GOP voted to allow states to end welfare’s work requirement, nonpartisan analysis finds

    By Zachary Roth

Mitt Romney is continuing to run racially charged ads that accuse President Obama of ending the work requirement in welfareโ€””they just send you your welfare check,” a narrator ominously intones, in reference to the new Obama policy.
But it turns out that the political cynicism of Romney’s attack goes even further. Earlier this summer, House Republicans themselves voted for a bill that really could allow states to end welfare’s work requirement, according to an authoritative and nonpartisan congressional analysis.
What’s the point here? It’s not that House Republicans are the ones who really want to relax the rules so that shifty welfare recipients can laze around all day while getting mailed a check. The change they voted for, giving states more flexibility to consolidate different workforce funds, may well make sense. But that’s exactly the case with the Obama adminisitration’s policy change, too. So the GOP’s vote points upโ€”as if further evidence were neededโ€”just how dishonest and politically motivated the Romney camp’s attack is.

    President Obama has prevailed …

    House passes six-month stopgap budget
Measure to fund government, avoid shutdown goes to Senate

The stopgap measure, $1.047 trillion in total, now goes to the Senate for a vote. Without the so-called continuing resolution, the government faces a threat of shutdown when the fiscal year ends on Sept. 30.

The temporary measure is needed because lawmakers didnโ€™t finish a full budget in time for the new fiscal year. House lawmakers voted 329 to 91 to approve it.

The bill, which is expected to be approved in the Senate, spends more than a separate measure passed by the House this spring. That bill, written by Republican vice-presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan, would have spent $1.028 trillion.

I’m no fan of Kanye West, but he dropped Willard’s name several times in his new song:

“When Nicki Minaj joked about voting for Mitt Romney in a recent song, rhyming โ€œIโ€™m a Republican, voting for Mitt Romney/You lazy bitches is fucking up the econโ€™my,โ€ it was a useful reminder that, while hip-hop has, at times, been a genre that relies heavily on claims of authenticity, rappers donโ€™t actually intend to follow through on every declarative statement they make in song. But while โ€œTo The World,โ€ Kanye Westโ€™s leaked track from his forthcoming Cruel Summer album, is probably not a useful tool for determining whether Mr. West will vote for President Obama, or evaluating Sen. Harry Reidโ€™s claims that Mitt Romney paid no income taxes in some years, the line โ€œIโ€™m just trying to protect my stacks, Mitt Romney donโ€™t pay no tax, Mitt Romney donโ€™t pay no tax,โ€ is actually worth paying attention to:”
“One of the central goals of the Obama reelection campaign has been to firmly fix the idea that Mitt Romney is an out-of-touch rich guy, someone who likes firing people, who ships his money overseas, who refuses to release his tax returns, probably because thereโ€™s something truly awful in them. If that narrative is sufficiently accepted that West can use Romney as shorthand for tax evasion, thatโ€™s an indicator of the larger success of that strategy. Iโ€™m not saying that a single hip-hop lyric is a weathervane of the election. But itโ€™s not a bad sign that an idea is gaining some traction.”

I loved WJC’s speech but what grates me is that he was talking about PBO’s policies…the crowd was cheering what PBO/Congress had done and some of it fixing WJC’s policies. Yes, Bill was able to explain the policy in detail (again it was a masterful job) but truthfully PBO has been pretty good explaining his policy as well and he even used the phrase “it’s math” or something like that, in a stump speech before WJC used “arithmetic” at the DNC. And who can forget his smackdown of Paul Ryan last year? Well, apparently the media. I’m convinced that the media doesn’t really listen to what PBO says on the stump. About the only thing PBO didn’t include in his speeches was the info about what Ryan plan would do to medicaid but he’s been pretty much saying what Bill said for a while if not in the same amount of detail. The real message problem has always been with his surrogates and even Bill himself at times has been off message. I just don’t like this meme that the press is building mainly because they can never seemed to give PBO credit. When he wins they will say its because of Bill and not because he ran a masterful campaign. I have no problem giving WJC credit for a great speech but they seem to forget that PBO has been leading in the polls for pretty much the entire summer…

THey are psychologically very fragile and cannot give a black man credit for being an amazing politician. It helps them sleep at night by creating a fantasy whereby PBO owes his reelection to Bill Clinton. The MSM has been talking about PBO’s failure to get his message across to the public ever since he took office (never mentioning their own role in the situation). You are correct that Clinton merely said what PBO has been saying for months and added the word “arithmatic”. Maybe they do ignore what PBO says, since they won’t report it anyway why bother.
