This is so scary. There is not one picture where h holds a kid facing him or closer than 2 or 3 feet from him. They are always crying or looking distressed. He always look like he enjoys their discomfort. What parent would put their kid in his hands. He probably looks like a night terror ogre to them. His hands convey no warmth or security. That’s scary to me.

      • 24 veryslowwriter
        September 13, 2012 at 3:32 pm

Again. He never looks a kid in the face. Babies do not like being held that way; it makes them feel insecure. You just know that he never held his own babies. Thern when they grew up, he liked pushing their faces into their food. As a “joke.” What warmth. What compassion. What a colossal dick!

          September 13, 2012 at 3:39 pm

I agree, he may have tossed them around, or played maniacal games with them, but no way did he hold them in comfort or compassion. It seems too foreign to him by nature. What instinct would allow you to hold a baby like that and to ignore it’s obvious discomfort? Anyone else would bring the kid toward them in an attempt to soothe them, then if not would hand it back to the parent. He only holds them for the photo op, or because someone thrust their kid at him before he could turn away, lest it look even more awkward. Not only would I never let him hold my child, I wouldn’t have my kid within 100 yards of the creep.

    Today Mitt said this.

“Ever since FDR we’ve had the capacity to be engaged in two conflicts at once, and he said no we’re going to cut that back to only one conflict,” Romney said.

How can anyone take this man seriously? What’s he aiming for; three at once?

      September 13, 2012 at 3:05 pm

How can I still be shocked by this idiot? And yet, he never disappoints.

Mitt truly only sees through a private equity lens. Not even a business lens, just private equity.

PBO ended a war and is on track to end another one. If there isn’t a profit/loss balance sheet Mitt sees nothing.

Or is he trying to say if we were still inflaming anti-American resentment in Iraq we’d look ‘strong’? I don’t know what the fuck he’s trying to say.

Mitt doesn’t even know that “FDR’s war” lasted half as long as W’s wars, one of which is still going in Afghanistan. Does the number of conflicts we’re involved in signify our strength? I think not.

Mitt doesn’t know that after “FDR’s war,” the name of the War Department was changed to the Defense Department and nations pledged to themselves to work together toward peace.

      Mitt doesn’t know …

… the list is too long to continue.

    • 60 jackiegrumbacher
      September 13, 2012 at 4:23 pm

What does this even mean? The damn world was at war when we entered WORLD war II under FDR. That “capacity” to engage in two wars cost the US millions of lives and casualties, untold economic hardship and deprivation and disrupted families across the country? Why on earth would any country want to be engaged in two conflicts? Why wouldn’t we want to end all wars and focus on nation building in the US, as PBO has said repeatedly. This R-looney has no idea what war is like and not one single drop of empathy for American troops put in harm’s way or for the impact on their families. You can bet he just wants to play games with maps and toy soldiers and act like a big alpha decision maker. He needs to go back to his cage. Why is anyone even listening to this mindless idiot?

It’s the thinking of a person making money for investors. He is thinking of the bottom line: money, greed and military industrial financial rewards.
The thought of our capital being the lives of our American population is not part of Mitt’s thinking. He does not think of our people as precious resources.

The reason I’m particularly hopeful is that both CTU and the School Board are making the same statement. Up to today, CPS (the “School Board”) would say they were close and CTU would say they were miles apart. When they’re both saying that 9 out of 10 issues are decided and they see an end to this, it’s a really good sign.

On one of the MSNBC shows I watched I saw a detailed timeline that made sense. I heard Romney jumped on the events early on before the Libyan Embassy was attacked blaming PBO for weakness and apologizing. At first he posted the email at 10pm saying to wait till midnight before releasing it but changed his mind on that. He was thinking of keeping his word to not be negative on 9/11 then ditched that promise. The Libyan Embassy was attacked AFTER Romney wrote the email criticizing the so called apology message. Then the next day he played politics and doubled down on his message even though he was criticized by many on his own side. I heard Egypt was on a slightly different timeframe than Libya.

    • September 13, 2012 at 3:43 pm

That’s THE question I’ve had all along. The whole timeline does not add up…..and as you said, after hearing AM last night explain the time she got the press release from Romney campaign and when the attacks began. What am I missing???? I don’t understand it.

3,000+ in a raucous, joyous crowd in Eau Claire today to see Biden. He seemed almost overcome. Walked out and held his hands out, mouthing, “Wow! Wow!” The students behind him (some of them my own!!) were seated in four rows of chairs — but NEVER sat down! When Biden came out they stood cheering like crazy, and NEVER SAT DOWN again through the entire speech! It was that way throughout the stands where people had the opportunity to sit. Many never did. The crowd cheered and clapped enthusiastically throughout Biden’s speech. And he waded into the crowd afterward like PBO does. People held out their hands to touch and be touched like with PBO. He is such a geniune, caring person. (And I was surprised at how incredibly trim and fit he is. That has never quite come across on television.)

The campaign made an excellent decision in sending Biden to E.C. Ryan was in Green Bay earlier this week and spoke to a group of “several hundred.” Green Bay is twice the size of Eau Claire. And I cannot begin to emphasize how it has inspired our College Dems.

A table has been set up in our student center to register students for voting. They can vote on campus if they live in the dorms. Generally we have about 12,000 students – many not living in dorms, but this is a good way to encourage voting.

After Romney’s debacle, GOP blames press

    By Steve Benen

    Ed Kilgore’s mockery rings true.

I’ve never completely understood the persecution complex of American conservative gabbers. They are, after all, aligned with the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world. They have their own large and very well-funded “shadow media” and public relations complex, even as the hated MSM constantly seeks to buy off criticism by conspicuously hiring conservative “voices.” They totally dominate one entire medium, radio, and dominate all media in many parts of the country. I get the distinct impression that conservative media types have a lot easier time supporting themselves than folks on the left. But to hear them, they are perpetually shunned and persecuted for their brave and selfless advocacy of the status quo and the status quo ante.
And now Romney and his allies are outraged this faced media blowback? What did they think would happen?

A little laughter is good medicine:

A pretty little girl named Suzy was standing on the sidewalk in front of her home. Next to her was a basket containing a number of tiny creatures; in her hand was a sign announcing FREE KITTENS.

Suddenly a line of big black cars pulled up beside her. Out of the lead car stepped a tall, grinning man. “Hi there little girl, I’m Mitt Romney. What do you have in the basket?” he asked. “Kittens,” little Suzy said. “How old are they?” asked Romney. Suzy replied, “They’re so young, their eyes aren’t even open yet.” “And what kind of kittens are they?” “Republicans,” answered Suzy with a smile. Romney was delighted.

As soon as he returned to his car, he called his PR chief and told him about the little girl and the kittens. Recognizing the perfect photo op, the two men agreed that the candidate should return the next day; and in front of the assembled media, have the girl talk about her discerning kittens.

So the next day, Suzy was again standing on the sidewalk with her basket of “FREE KITTENS,” when another motorcade pulled up, this time followed by vans from FOX News, ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN. Cameras and audio equipment were quickly set up, then Romney got out of his limo and walked over to little Suzy.

“Hello, again,” he said, “I’d love it if you would tell all my friends out there what kind of kittens you’re giving away.” “Yes sir,” Suzy said. “They’re Democrats.” Taken by surprise, the candidate stammered, “But…but…yesterday, you told me they were Republicans.” Little Suzy smiled and said, “I know…but today, they have their eyes open .”

WASHINGTON (AP) โ€” The Federal Reserve unleashed a series of bold and open-ended steps Thursday designed to stimulate the economy by boosting the stock market and making it cheaper for people to borrow and spend.

The Fed said it will spend $40 billion a month to buy mortgage bonds for as long as it deems necessary to make home buying more affordable. It plans to keep short-term interest rates at record lows through mid-2015 โ€” six months longer than previously planned. And itโ€™s ready to try other stimulative measures if hiring doesnโ€™t pick up.

โ€˜โ€˜The idea is to quicken the recovery,โ€™โ€™ Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said at a news conference Thursday. But he made clear he thinks the economy will need the Fedโ€™s intervention even after the recovery strengthens.

“…Van Duzer, who voted for Obama in 2008 and plans to vote for him again in November, doesn’t take issue with Obama’s small business policies. “My business is stronger than it was four years ago, and that’s because I take accountability for my business,” he said. “I personally run and operate my business, and I don’t depend on the government to help me.”

Instead, Van Duzer has found a better way to boost business: hugging. “I gave out over 100” hugs Wednesday, Van Duzer said. “We’re going to get a monitor, and when we get to about 300 or 400 hugs, we’re going to play them on a loop, so people can come in and see their hugs. We’re having a good time with it….”

I love that last part. He needs some bumper stickers or advertisements that say “Hugs are good for business!” He’d better be careful though with all the hugging though. The Repubs might just run him out of their party, cuz those homeys don’t play that! ๐Ÿ™‚

The military is staying out of the hunt, at least for now. Although it initially appeared Wednesday that Gen. Carter Ham, the commander of U.S. forces in Africa, would play a leading role in commanding a force for those responsible for killing four U.S. diplomats in Libya, the Defense Department is limiting its role in Libya to securing the embassy and protecting remaining U.S. nationals in country.

The search will be spearheaded by the FBI, as is the case with many investigations overseas involving harm done to U.S. nationals, such as the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia.

โ€œThe FBI has an open investigation into the deaths of the four U.S. citizens in Libya and the attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya,โ€ Dean Boyd, the spokesman for the FBIโ€™s National Security Directorate, emailed Danger Room.

โ€œWhen conducting such investigations, the FBI coordinates closely with the Justice Department, the Department of State, and the appropriate government partners in the host nation,โ€ Boyd added. โ€œThe FBI cannot comment on any investigative actions or operations related to this incident at this time. The FBI will not speculate on the facts and circumstances surrounding the attacks.โ€

“BREAKING: A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Democrats with a 49% to 43% lead in the battle for Congress.

I donโ€™t have to tell you, a 6 point lead is a BIG deal. And if we can keep this momentum going, we could be on track to replace Boehner and Cantorโ€™s Tea Party majority with a Democratic House for President Obama.

But first, we have to close the spending gap.

This week, the Republicans launched a multi-million dollar ad campaign against our candidates in 22 of the tightest races across the country. Weโ€™ve come too far to let these dishonest ads cost us the election…….”

So today I had an interesting chat in my red oil gushing town ๐Ÿ˜‰ A code compliance officer was next door checking out my neighbor’s yard.. he”s a collector/seller of things & a very very good neighbor.. so I stuck my nose in just to let her know he wasn’t home right now & that he was a great neighbor, etc.. anyway we started chatting about my move to MD. Lots of folks are moving from here because the oil boom has made it possible for many people to sell their houses for a good profit.. and of course a huge amount of folks are moving in for the oil boom.. anyhoo, this officer mentions “Obama” – now that doesn’t happen much here- unless someone is offering some bs about him.. but in this case she said she thought he was doing a pretty good job, she seemed aware that he had been met by many obstacles by Repubs.. and of course I made sure she knew. She wants to leave here to but because jobs aren’t as plentiful elsewhere as here – its hard to leave all this money. I informed her about POTUS’ jobs bill still stalled in Congress because of Republicans. Now heres the interesting part… she says to me she doesn’t mind voting for the ‘black guy’.. but she could NEVER vote for a woman for President. !!! Well okay I’m pretty straight forward.. thus I said “shame on you” YOU have to support women, we’re awesome! Of course she smiled/laughed.. I began naming strong smart women and that remember someone has to bust that ceiling- her fear was that a woman- like a black man- would get harrassed so much they couldn’t do the job. Thus I named more bills POTUS had pushed against all the odds.. and how a woman would have it even easier because of his groundbreaking in advance… but we women would never get there without each other in support. We have to get past the mindset that our ‘masters’- white males- are the only ones capable of getting things done. Anyhoo- she really seemed to want to share this stuff and chat- working with all men most of the day at the PD can blind one to believing silly stuff. Having been in the military previously & having also worked at that same PD.. I had an idea why she was kind of ‘anti-woman’. Anyway, my last words to her were VOTE! Hoping she’ll help put Heidi Heitkamp (sp) into the Senate- even though shes not a fave of mine, she’s more dem than a repub and she seems to be on the side of women for the most part.

This really floored me, as I’ve never heard a woman say she wouldn’t vote for women.. hopefully she’ll change her perspective.

Wow – that’s quite a story! I can’t even imagine unilaterally saying I wouldn’t vote for a fellow woman, simply because men might make it too hard to accomplish anything. That’s just giving away our power. But, you were in the right place at the right time, and hopefulness, your words will resonate with her when the time comes for her to vote for the first woman president.

I hope so theo… she was a sweet woman really & I too was so stunned by her pronouncement.. so I mentioned Hillary, Kamala Harris, Debbie Wasserman Schultz- and Heidi Heitkamp. I too really hope she’ll give more thought to this. When a woman works around mostly males all day in a rather ‘macho’ environment- it can take a toll on your own self image.. especially when some of those males prefer a woman in ‘her place’.

I work in IT with a lot of men – male engineers and software developers. I actually get a sense of pride when I see myself outnumbered by those guys, because I feel like I’ve broken through a barrier and others behind me will have it easier. It might be different in various jobs, but your post explains why there’s a “Women for Romney” group. Fear. I’m glad she encountered you, though. I’m sure it will open her eyes a little more. One person at a time…

I always felt more empowered actually working with men.. and luckily many of the men I’ve known have been strong enough themselves to work with a strong woman. But I can still see how it might be harder for some women in that environment. I hope she sees things a bit differently too… and extra YAY for you theo!!! For breaking those barriers & being a woman of substance ~ ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi All at TOD!!

I just came across this while on Huffpost and knowing we don’t link them, if Chips is OK with it, thanks for approving:

There some hilarious posts on that Huffpost story titled: ‘The Most Interesting Man In The World,’ Dos Equis’ Jonathan Goldsmith, Hosts Obama Fundraiser
Here are some of the posts of people imitating Goldsmith:

“Not only are his tax returns public, they regularly top the best-seller lists and have been translated into 28 languages. ”
“The Most Interesting Man does not talk to empty chairs. As he once said, that is for old, forgetful men…. ”
“I don’t always endorse a Presidential candidate, but when I do I prefer Barack Obama”

I think it is hilarious the ingenuity of the posts on that story. Hope you all have a good laugh!!

    Guess who said this?

“And the lesson is clear: If we want to win the battle of ideas in the long term, we should be willing to face the fact that Mitt Romney is likely to lose โ€” and should, given that heโ€™s neither a true conservative nor a courageous moderate. Heโ€™s just an ambitious man. Nothing wrong with that, except when you want to be president. Great leaders combine ambition and ideas and conviction.”

    Give up?

Terry Jones is trying to bring about the rapture, that’s what this is all about. That’s why he’s causing all this.

There was a 400% increase in sales of Springsteen’s ‘We Take Car of Our Own’ following the DNC convention.

    Now poll that!

Just had to share! I was in Golden to see our President. I got to be on the rope line! I got to shake his hand. While shaking his hand I told him that I canvas every night and every weekend for him and that we will get it done. He thanked me and then PULLED ME IN AND KISSED MY CHEEK! I kid you not!! I have pictures, not of the kiss, but some pretty close ones. Then I have to share–one of the photographers following him was right in front of me and I asked “Are you Pete Sousa?” He was surprised and said yes. I told him that I am on The Obama Diary and we get to see his great work all the time, and we all love it. (I spoke for all of us!) Well, gotta get ready and get out there canvasing. Great day for me!!
