Good night all. What a wonderful way to end the day. I watched the convention with #2 (24 years old). she was on her Twitter feed as she watched. It’s so funny that the topic among her demographic is the guys saying there should be more Michelles and the women saying they want a man like Michelle has. It’s a war between the sexes as each are seeing romantic role models that they aspire for. #2 says she feels like she should be doing more, feels so inspired, was in tears about Michelle watching PBO hunched over reading the letters. They are tweeting all over the place about voting and volunteering and becoming better citizens.

Something tells me that “Little Honey Boo Boo” on Wednesday won’t be getting any bounce from the DNC convention. Tomorrow it’s Sandra Fluke, John Kerry, Liz Warren, Jim Clyburn, Eva Longoria, Big Dog, and many more…

The haters can hate, but nothing will change the fact that we not only have a beautiful first lady but a very intelligent one as well. I know Mrs. Robinson is very proud of her, and I feel that her dad is looking down on her from above. It’s not hard to see what Sasha, Malia, and the president thinks of her. I don’t care what Fineman has to say. Something tells me that the president and first lady could introduce Jesus to him, and he’d still find something wrong with it. I sussed him out a long time ago. He comes from the old school wherein it’s never the proper thing to do to praise people of color too highly. He may fool a lot of other people, but he doesn’t fool me. I’ve dealt with people like him for almost 60 years now, and I recognize them and what their agenda is soon after they open their mouths.

WOW is all I can say. It was personal, it was about the policies that affect us. It came down to a heck of a tesitmony from the woman who knows him best. I am so inspired by their story, our story and the clear eyed vision they bring to who we are as Americans. I thought how can she bring us more this dnc than last. She did it. She shared and connected us all in such a moving way.

I must go to bed now as I’m incoherent and way past bed time. Here is to Michelle Obama ! What a woman, partner, mom and awesome orator.

This was so wonderful. 3 of my friends and my 85 yr old aunt were calling at various times tonight. Each one of us was glued to the television. Such an emotional night. We can’t wait for the next two. I love this.

They rocked the message tonight. All the speakers were great, including ‘Dirty Harry’ Reid. He was on fire. It was the most ‘forcefull’ I have ever seen him speak. Everyone seems hyped and excited about the message. Mitt and company are in BIG trouble.

Jennifer Granholm mentioned one of LOLGOP’s tweets on the air. I watched on C-span and taped the rest. I’m going back now to see the commentary. WOW.

Wow, looks great by the first glance at it that I can have, but has to wait till I come back home from work. Caught a whiff about teachers though, which is always so much appreciated. I love how these people talk about teachers. 🙂 *is off to teach*

    • 55 prettyfoot58
      September 5, 2012 at 8:19 am

It is not so much that the Repubs hate teachers….what they hate is that they are organized…and the notion of Public Education….

      • September 5, 2012 at 9:59 am

That´s the impression that I have, too. As a German, we have a very different outset on political issues and whereas recent polls show that PBO would win with 80% if the elections depended on the German public, we are also very used to bipartisan politics. Therefore, even though I strongly agree with the viewpoints of the democrats, I always find opinions important and, having a few friends on both sides of the aisle in the States, I am noone to easily say words like “hate”. However, as someone working as a teacher, I know how many of us really pour their heart and soul into the job and hearing Michelle or PBO talk of teachers in an appreciative way (and not like the Republicans who focus on stuff like “the teacher unions are too strong” or my last week´s “favourite” by Chris Christie: “Teachers didn´t become teachers to become rich and famous”) always lifts my heart. Because ours is a very rewarding job but sometimes we need a nice word about our efforts 🙂

        • 57 prettyfoot58
          September 5, 2012 at 10:29 am

          hello Niliathiel
Many successful follks give credit to a teacher who made an indelible impact on their life….

being against the teachers union plays into the anti union meme of todays Republican Party…

          • September 5, 2012 at 11:07 am

I know 🙂 And this is what makes the job so worthwhile.
It´s just nice to see these little appreciations in Michelle´s speech or in what PBO regularly says in contrast to these things because laying off teachers or talking about reducing the power of their unions and all the things I saw between the lines of Christie´s speech reminds me taht in my country, too, you can have different statuses as a teacher. It´s the same job, but depending on your status that´s about 500 euros more or less on your monthly paycheck…

I remember when our Prez was talking about the first time he met Michelle..she was interviewing him for a job. Once he realized she wouldn’t go out with him because of working “rules” he opted to quit his job. He knew she was a diamond when he first met her. He was right! Like Roger Ebert, I am so proud of being a democrat.

I am overwhelmed with emotion at how amazing tonight’s speeches were. I missed Ted Strickland’s speech, but heard it was a new level of firebrand. Deval Patrick was simply magnificent, dare I say, “presidential.” George O’Malley was the exuberance personified. Julian Castro’s personal story and powerful delivery brought to mind the 2004 speech of Senate-Candidate Barack Obama. And my First Lady, well I have only one word to describe who she is and what she did tonight… PHENOMENAL!!

    Morning everyone…..

What a night……it was big election day yesterday where I live, in Quebec……

I had the tv on for the elections and I was watching the convention on Cspan…..

It was like watching a tennis match….back and forth back and forth….

One thing that got my complete attention was the amazing FLOTUS…..I was very very moved by her speech…..I love her….

I fell asleep not too long after her speech……

I woke up this morning with this and I’m VERY upset : Quebec PQ Leader Marois Being Rushed Off Stage By Bodyguards During Assassination Attempt.

1 dead, 1 critically wounded in shooting at victory speech by new premier of Quebec, Pauline Marois.

Crazy world….I don’t know what’s going on but it is very upsetting.

WE WERE NOT PLACED ON THIS EARTH TO SEE THROUGH EACH OTHER…BUT TO SEE EACH OTHER THROUGH! THERE IS A STRONG AND VITAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN CONVENTIONS. FIRST LADY MICHELLE AND ALL OTHERS WERE EXAMPLES OF THE REALITIES IN LIFE,THE GENUINE PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL STRUGGLES IN LIFE, THE AMAZING EXAMPLES OF PERSEVERANCE THAT KEEP OUR HEARTS BEATING STRONGER AND IN UNISON EVERYDAY. THE TRUTH IN LIFE’S PURPOSE IS THAT IT’S ‘NOT ABOUT ME’…IT’S ABOUT WHAT WE CAN DO FOR OTHERS…IT’S ABOUT LIFTING AN OUTSTRETCHED HAND TO THOSE IN NEED. PLEASE…ALL PRAY…FOR WE HAVE TO DEFEAT THOSE WHO ARE IN LOVE WITH MERE WORDLY THINGS. THIS IS WHAT IT COMES DOWN TO. GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Good morning TOD Community!!! I accidentally fell asleep last night, after being up at 3:30 in the morning to catch a flight that day. So I was so mad that I missed the First Lady’s speech, but I woke up around 2 in the morning and caught the reruns, and OH MY GOD! I couldn’t stop crying. I desperately wished at that moment to be able to watch it with a group like folks on TOD, just so we could have a group hug!!!

I LOVED the life video they showed of Michelle Obama and it just made me think how much she’s done and what an Amazing & CLASSY lady to do all this, despite the racist hatred thrown her way by Conservative Right Wing GARBAGE!

She rises above and she shows how it’s done with grace & brilliance! I love our First Lady. I think that law about 2 terms should be abolished briefly. Because She is today’s Eleanor Roosevelt. We need both the President and First Lady to fix all the problems for our kids future.

Given that I’m wishing for the moon…I’d like to temporarily abolish the GOP Party, as clearly they are a waste of taxpayer money! That should help shrink the deficit!!!

    Quotes he wishes he DIDN’T say…(h/t C&L)

Speaking of which, your quotes of the day: “The people of America recognize that the slowdown in jobs that occurred during the early years of the Bush administration were the result of a perfect storm.” (Mitt Romney, 2004) “Governor Romney inherited an economy that was losing jobs each month and left office with an economy that was adding jobs each month.” (Romney campaign statement, May 30, 2012)
