    http://thinkprogress.org/media/2012/09/05/801441/erickson-sexist/

This afternoon, in just over one hour, 23,000 people signed a petition asking CNN to fire contributor Erick Erickson.
His offense? He referred to the Democrats’ packed list of female speakers at their convention in Charlotte, North Carolina as “the Vagina Monologues”:

    Erick Erickson

    @EWErickson
First night of the Vagina Monologues in Charlotte going as expected.
    4 Sep 12 ReplyRetweetFavorite

After a flurry of furious tweets, Erickson — who once said he “kind of like[d] the idea” that women are barred from a golf club so that he wasn’t “hanging out at some women’s event” — half-heartedly expressed regret for his comment, saying “My apologies to those offended by my tweet. Wasn’t my intention.”
But UltraViolet, a women’s advocacy group, launched the petition calling on CNN to “Take him off the air right away” for his sexist line. “Seriously?” the petition reads, “He hears powerful, eloquent women talking about crucial issues and that’s his reaction?”

Oh man….those southern states on the Gulf might find this MORE than a little interesting!!!

    http://www.gregpalast.com/how-bain-capital-helped-bpblow-up-the-deepwater-horizon/

I almost fell off the barstool when I read that it was Bain Capital (Mitt Romney, former CEO), that told oil giant BP it was a good idea to cut costs. The cuts would lead to death, mayhem and the destruction of the Gulf Coast (not to mention BP’s poisoning of Alaska, Africa, Central Asia and Colombia).

In 2007, after BP’s criminal negligence and penny-pinching led to the explosion at the BP oil refinery on the Gulf Coast, in Texas City, Texas, the company brought in industry pooh-bah James Baker, their lawyer and former Secretary of State, to write a report. Baker is Big Oil’s BFF, but in this case, he was horrified, and told BP to get its act together and spend some real money on operating safety.

BP didn’t like Baker’s recommendation nor did it like another report by its own consulting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton which advised the company to …get its act together and spend money on safety.

When two respected industry voices agree that you’d better start spending and thinking while you’re operating in a deadly business, a corporation’s CEO has only one choice: find a consulting house of ill repute to contradict the others and tell you what you want to hear.

That’s what BP’s CEO Tony Hayward did. In 2008, he hired Bain Capital to say the company would be better managed if it spent less money. Bain used consulting BS terms like reducing “complexity,” but it all meant the same thing: cut, cut, cut.

After all, Bain’s motto is, “We like to fire people.” The oil company then fired 5,000 employees in response to the Bain report.

    To hell with safety.

BP read Bain’s recommendations as the green light to chop funding. Of course, it was all done with Hayward’s PR pronouncement that the company would now “focus like a laser on safety”. (A laser, I’d note, is a thin beam surrounded by darkness.)

BP’s Bain-blessed, deadly, insouciant cost-cutting was the deadly habit that federal regulators identified as a cause of the Deepwater Horizon blow-out.

C-SPAN makes everything flow. I refuse to allow the pundits to come into my space. The program is worth watching without the talking heads. Try it. The crowd is also so “fired up.” Try it TOD Family.

LL, it will comfort your gut situation as well. My pain is less because I do not have to deal with the chatter. Plus looking at the crowd lifts my spirits.

Oh, someone was asking about who played the National Anthem. It was Brandon Marsalis. He is a great musician of the great Marsalis musical family. A quartet. Father is a great jazz pianist along with one brother, the famous Wynton Marsalis. Brandon plays the saxophone. I believe he was playing the alto sax tonight. I believe. Great musical family.

Oh, Rev. Rep. Cleaver tore the house down tonight. He had church tonight. And of course, Ann Richards has to be smiling on her beautiful daughter tonight. Still fighting for what her great mother stood for during her political career and especially being governor of TX. Enjoy the Convention, try C-SPAN. HZ

I posted this early, but I don’t now if it is valid.

A team of hackers claims to have obtained Mitt Romney’s tax returns and say the documents will be released at the end of September unless the candidate transfers $1 million in Bitcoins, an online currency. The group allegedly stole the files from Pricewaterhouse Cooper’s Tennessee office on Aug. 25. If Romney fails to pay the ransom, the hackers say, “the entire world will be allowed to view the documents with a publicly released key to unlock everything.

  34. September 5, 2012 at 8:00 pm

Mitt Romney is doubling down on a claim he made earlier this year: that the President’s successful bailout of the auto industry was actually Romney’s idea. This from today’s interview with Carl Cameron of Fox News.

My view from the beginning was the auto companies needed to go through a managed bankruptcy. And ultimately, that’s what the president did. He finally took them through managed bankruptcy. But it took him six months to get there.
For some six months, Romney’s has been trying to retrospectively change his position on the autobailout, to position himself as the originator of a plan that proved successful. In fact, Romney supported a form of bankruptcy that most experts agree would have led to the liquidation of most or all of the US auto industry.

liking the delaware gov markell! great message as a former business executive and explaining the fundamental difference between business and government, which the republicans are always intentionally muddying.
