Parade: If you were female, we would ask, “How has being female affected your ability to govern?” So, how has being black affected your ability to govern?

PO: I’m sure it makes me more determined in assuring that everybody’s getting a fair shot—in the same way that being a father of two daughters makes me want to make sure that every woman is getting equal pay for equal work, ’cause I don’t want my daughters treated differently than somebody else’s sons. By virtue of being African-American, I’m attuned to how throughout this country’s history there have been times when folks have been locked out of opportunity, and because of the hard work of people of all races, slowly those doors opened to more and more people. Equal opportunity doesn’t just happen on its own; it happens because we’re vigilant about it. But part of this is not just because we’re African-American—it’s also because Michelle and I were born into pretty modest means. And so I think about my single mom and what it was like to go to school and work at the same time. And I think about Michelle’s dad, who had a disability and was working every day and didn’t have a lot of money to spare. But somehow our parents or grandparents were able to give us these opportunities partly because they lived in a society that said that was important. And as president, I want to affirm that that’s important and reject the idea that if we just reward those at the top, that somehow that’s going to work for everybody—’cause that hasn’t been how America got built.

I just commented on that above/below! The one before was terrific too; I think it was another union guy, Bob King? Bobkin? ?? didn’t quite catch it but he was good! Who signed X…? (audience) President Obama, repeated several times. Good stuff!

So you guys, I get the ‘Parade’ magazine from two different sources… two Sunday newspapers. In the local one was the interview with the Romney’s and in the SF Chronicle was the interview with the Obama’s. Quite a contrast! Guess which one I’m keeping and which one’s going in the recycle? 🙂 🙂

My paper had the Rs last week and the Obamas this week. My only gripe with the one this week is the printing on the interior photo which makes gorgeous Michelle look like she has a 5 o’clock shadow. I hope that was just a printing error in the local paper. The warmth and obvious affection the Obamas have for each other and for America was obvious!

Hey Judith, yes, I saw that too :-/ But the covers couldn’t be more different. The warmth of the Obama’s really shines through!

As I ponder on the question about race ask to our President Obama of the United States . Not the African American President , but the entire USA. Why , each question has to be verified with race . Why race this, why race that. If an different nationality that was born and raised in America would have been the President do, You really think these questions would be asked . Was every President pure American’s or they were mix with Irish , Sweden, Turk . I wondered . I guess I better go dig up their roots to make sure they were born in American. We are suppose to be called the land of the free , but yet are we really free as African American. I know when I wake up in the morning no one as to remind me I am a black women . So, why must our own Country remind the 1st family want color they are . There is not one person that live amongst the living can tell me their blood is not red unless they are sick. If you cry where does your tears come from . When you look at things unless you are blind , what colors do you see. Where is you heart located if you are born with one in the right place . Before you were born where were you , I know in your mother stomach. When your stomach hurt where does your waste come out. This is something to think about when you feel it’s necessary to always ask about race when speaking to The Predudent of the United States. Ask him the questions with your eyes close and just maybe you would ask him questions about our Country , because you wouldn’t know the color of his skin just the content of his character . I hope you all know at the end we will all be judged for all our actions and thoughts . What comes out your mouth can devoul you . So be careful what comes out your mouth. Another thing God knew just how we were going to act , so now he is mixing race all together like a big pot of Gumbo. So , now you have our 1st taste of cerole gumbo . I like the flavor . It!/s seasoned just right . Well mixed just like our President Obama . One day we will all have a generation of creole gumbo .

  24. September 4, 2012 at 1:51 am

Thank you xo much President Obama . You did not wait for the Govenor of La. You can down here for yourself and started urging things in to place . That is wanrt a President suppose to do . The president of the United StTes is the 1st responder . He conquered and we will rebuild again much faster and in order . Thank you we appreciate you . Salute . Tell me that’s not a 2nd term Presudent. He is color blind. To God be the Glory fir the things he had done.
