      You can say that again.

Somebody on the radio this morning said itt, who wants to be CiC, made absolutely no mention of the troops or the war in Afghanistan in his big speech last night. If that’s true, I wonder how that went over with our servicemen and women across the world.

  17. August 31, 2012 at 8:22 pm

And for Dotster3, previous thread re: concerns about R-money’s stagecraft last night (the exact replica from the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City).

Not sure what she was talking about. As I’m sure Desertflower can attest to, Mormon temples are elaborate white affairs with multiple spires. They stand out in any neighborhood, and are prevalent thoughout the southwest (including Southern California, where I’m a lifelong resident).

Here’s last night speech (you only need to watch for 2 seconds), and I don’t see any nod to Mormon temples. PBO supporters should not be paranoid conspiracy believers like RWNJs are.

      August 31, 2012 at 10:07 pm

Not sure why you’re so bothered by my relaying the reporting on the Thom Hartmann Show. “She” (me) was merely reporting what the daily correspondent for that program, Ellen Ratner of Talk Radio News Service said today——-that the set up within the convention center was rebuilt for Romney’s speech to the same specifics as is used by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City. I’m assuming her source had to be a Mormon because you have to be a Mormon to enter the temple. (my husband and friends tried once when they were in the area and were surprised they were not allowed). And I gave my personal opinion that I thought this was creepy. I don’t like any aspect of religion in my politics or government. End of story. Nothing to obsess about.

        August 31, 2012 at 10:11 pm

And, by the way, they had a discussion about this for a few minutes, saying, among other things, that this was done to make Romney feel comfortable in familiar surroundings and that Romney would want to keep true to Mormon religious rituals and beliefs, has a devotion to same.

Two things, been in the SLC temple and many others quite a few times. The tabernacle choir sings in the tabernacle or the conference center. They are not temples, anyone can go there. Perhaps she was talking about the acoustics. There is no performances in the temple. Secondly the only time the temple is open to anyone is during the open house before it is dedicated, then only those of us with temple recommends can enter.

it’s you, women! let me mentor you, and you can run a great company, like, oh, say, curl up and dye salon.

‘ “In business, I mentored and supported great women leaders who went on to run great companies,” Romney said yesterday in his speech at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, where he formally accepted the party’s nomination for president.

Bain, which Romney ran for 15 years until 1999, counts seven women among its 87 managing directors and senior executives, or 8 percent.

The comparable figure for the country’s six biggest investment and commercial banks is 30 percent, while women make up 13 percent of the senior ranks at 10 of the largest traditional-asset managers. ‘

    from johathan alter in bloomberg:

‘ Obama doesn’t have character weaknesses that can be exploited. He makes a small target, which is frustrating for Republicans. His failures on the economy might not be enough to get Romney over the finish line. So after the glow of their convention wears off, Republicans will probably be back on the same low road they have traveled in the past. ‘

‘ In employing dog whistles, the Romney campaign is tapping into racial themes that Republicans have used going back to 1968, when Richard Nixon inaugurated his infamous “Southern strategy.” ‘

‘ Meanwhile, a welfare dog whistle continues to account for half of Romney’s paid advertising against Obama. A Romney ad in heavy rotation says that under a recent welfare-policy change “they just send you your welfare check.” That’s false, but it successfully conjures unemployed people sitting on the couch mooching off the middle class. ‘

And had Congress cooperated one little bit–like passing the American Jobs Act — the economy would be operating on all cylinders right now. We’d have more vital public sector jobs and our infrastructure would be repaired. . The blame needs to go where it belongs — on Boehner and his vengeful, small-minded, idiot tag team and on McConnell for putting political games over his loyalty to his country.

THIS is the biggest challenge: to counter the lies. How do you deal with a campaign which CONTINUES to lie even after the media has denounced your lies ?

In a perfect world, the media would pull out the ads, refusing to be complicit in a campaign of deception. Or journalists could refuse to do any interviews of republicans, and explain why. One can dream…

This is a dilemma for Media because everyone can now see the ‘Elephant’ in the Room. No turning back. Will they challenge? It’s on them now, and they must surely know it. Cowards or Journalists? Everyone is watching. They will be called out for their bullshit.

        September 1, 2012 at 2:12 am

You make good suggestions, Lovepolitics2008. The problem, however, is most of the media really want President Obama to be defeated. That is why the denunciation of Mitt’s lies are very mild. They are no where near the intensity of the media outrage about: the ads showing Romney’s Bain capital destroying jobs; Senator Reid’s suggestion that Mitt Romney may not have paid taxes for the past ten years; and VP Biden remarks about Wall Street shackles if the Dodd-Frank law were to be repealed.

    • 110 dotster3

The ugly lying Willard campaign must have seen some shift in poll numbers where they have the ugly lying welfare ad airing—-because that is their favorite—–running non-stop in battleground states—–as they intentionally stir up resentments.

One thing you do about the welfare ad is you have the President who sign the welfare bill in to law speak about it, and you can count on President Clinton talking about that when he speak at the Democratic Convention and people will listen too.

    Hey everyone! IMPORTANT!! Need help!!

I just got this in the email…

“ATTENTION! TO EVERYONE THAT’S VOTING IN THE NOVEMBER 2012 ELECTION!!

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION HAS BEEN VERIFIED AS BEING “TRUE” THROUGH SNOPES.COM!
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO VOTE A “STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET” THIS NOVEMBER, BE SURE TO “PUNCH PRESIDENT OBAMA’s NAME “FIRST” ON THE CARD, THEN PROCEED TO PUNCH “STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET”! IF YOU DON’T PUNCH PRESIDENT OBAMA NAME FIRST ON THE TICKET, YOUR VOTE WILL BE VOIDED!!!!

PLEASE PASS THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON TO ALL YOUR E-MAIL FRIENDS AND FAMILIES. I’M SURE THIS INFORMATION WILL NOT BE TOLD TO YOU AT THE POLLS THIS COMING NOVEMBER!!!!!!
    GOD BLESS!”

I checked out the Snopes page: http://www.snopes.com/politics/ballot/straightticket.asp – and it says this is applicable to North Carolina only! Is that 100% accurate? There’s good advice on the Snopes page to always check a sample ballot, but some people do not. How do we broadcast this message?

    Suggestions? Thanks!!

    • 123 magapie
      August 31, 2012 at 9:31 pm

No idea but that sounds damn suspicious because it’s so illogical. It might be YET ONE MORE refugg tactic to alter the election. You punch PBO and then ALSO straight ticket and maybe you invalidate your entire ballot?? Again, I’m just wondering becuase it doesn’t sound right at all.

      • 124 Rita
        August 31, 2012 at 9:36 pm

What they’re saying is that a straight ticket vote (STV) is not enough. You still need to select the Presidential ballot. That’s logical when you think about it, but some people may think that just voting STV means you’re done, no need to select President as well. And that’s not true.

        • 125 magapie
          August 31, 2012 at 9:58 pm

You may be right. I’m an old f**ker so STV ALWAYS meant the President on down. ALWAYS. Maybe it changed? Could be. But the ReMAGGOTians have and are spreading false messages about EVERYTHING to tactically supress the vote in targeted places. Polling locations have changed when they haven’t. Polling hours have chnaged when they haven’t ….on and on and on……

Snopes says it’s valid, but only for North Carolina. But even if it’s only for one state, this is is pretty important. And yes, I’m already checking with OFA . Thanks.

Couldn’t you just vote individually for each office and avoid the STV box? Wouldn’t that be counted if you voted for each Dem on the ticket including the Prez? Seems if it was questionable that would take care of it to me.

Exactly OG, when I lived in NC, I never trusted that Straight Ticket crap. It’s lazy and prone to errors (read: manipulation) big time.
How hard is it to go through the ballot and just click on the names of the people that you want to vote for?

Call your local OFA and the following has been tweeted to …

Be advised that this voter suppression is going to take place on several levels. Look for the electronic voting machines to be rigged too. An expose’, a few years back, showed how the machines could be set up so the third or fourth vote could be directed wherever the fixer wished. Adjustments were made before the machines leave the warehouse.
We must be vigilant. Batten down the hatches.

    • August 31, 2012 at 9:54 pm

It’s real, but they usually inform you at the poll and it’s written on the ballot:

“A Straight Party vote does not vote for US President and Vice President, unaffiliated candidates, or nonpartisan offices or issues.”

What a bizarre way to vote.

My suggestion. Rita? Call your county voter registration office, which sets up the ballots for election day. Every county has one. Call and ask directly how straight ticket voting will work in your county on election day. In some states, like Pennsylvania, each county has its own voting machine–there is no uniformity in the state. So find out what’s true in your area and then tell people that you talk to. Your local OFA rep should also be aware of how the ballot will be set up, Confirm with your OFA rep what you learned from your county voter registration office and then make sure that the information is correctly given out to all voters during GOTV.

No Rita. It’s applicable here in Illinois. At least in Chicago. I got one too from a friend with legal ties.

What you should be focused on is the source! Once you know the source you can then determine authenticity. For me, any thing that does not come from DNC, DSCC, DCCC, or OFA is very suspect. Unless of course it’s sent from a reputable organizations, like the AFL, that support the President

Most Americans are still not aware of these crucial facts. That needs to change well before 6 Nov 2012.

Maddow is KILLING tonight. She said the GOP should be renamed the PHM — Party of Huddled Masses. Then she did a montage of the “We were so poor, we could only afford 2 letters — we were po’.” from the convention last night. I think Miss Ann was my fav.

Wow Amk, I had to step back and take a look at this one twice. So true:) Now Paul Ryan will forever be known as a liar like Bob McDonell is known as “Mr Vaginal probe”. He was Mr. Clean when he was restricted to his Wisconsin district but now he is playing on the nat’l stage.

I can’t believe that the miners are being charged with the murder of their colleagues. That’s, how shall I put it? Oh, yeah, FUCKED UP.

Have a wonderful trip, AMK! I am sure you know that you would be visiting a land where your great leader, Gandhi, launched his political career. I hope your trip is not all business and you will take time to enjoy the beauty and flavor of South Africa. I never imagined that I would live long enough to see the end of Apartheid in South Africa. It turns out I was sadly mistaken and overly pessimistic. I hope you will share with TOD family about your visit “to the land of Mandela.”

Once again, thanks go out to all the committed and generous TODers for contributing to PBO’s re-election. It’s exciting to see this level of support when PBO needs it the most. Next week will be a tremendous boost for us regardless of what stupid mayhem the RWNJs make up or whatever nonsense the MSM obsesses about day after day. FORWARD!!

A huge shout out to everyone who has donated to my FR page today! I will send you each a note, but for now I cannot say how lovely it is to see my 3rd goal sighing reach! Had an email earlier thanking me for being a longtime and generous supporter, and to invite me to a call with PBO this Sunday, but, tears are flowing, I will not be on the call as I am working at that hour, but my heart will be there! I did not make my maximum amount by tonight’s deadline, but I think the primaries don’t end until after PBO accepts the nomination, right? I just need a little more time, then I will zap it! Have a wonderful evening everyone! 😆

So, some time soon I shall have to have the L.A. TODers over to Casa LL and Wifey for a bbq and a few rounds of my famous gimlets. A very cute bartender with the most amazing ink gave me what may be the best gimlet recipe ever.
