CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – President Barack Obama drew an overflow crowd to a rally Wednesday in this picturesque college town, just as he’s done at least twice before, but some of the magic seemed to be gone.

I’m not sure why you’re posting that again. Writer took 1 comment from someone who said the campaign wasn’t as exciting as last time when we were electing first AA president. Well, duh. And someone else who said PBO said it was going to take 8 years to accomplish goals. And somehow, writer came to the conclusion that the “magic seemed to be gone”. That’s what you call writing to a pre-determined conclusion, making stuff up.

        August 29, 2012 at 4:52 pm

Agree. The magic is not gone when people line up for hours waiting to get into a PBO rally. That’s call enthusiasm. And a BTW to the writer, it’s not magic on PBO’s part … it’s hard work, perseverance, determination, putting the country first, working toward the common good, caring about people, etc.

The writer, who is a coward for not putting their name on that, injected a few snarky words.

Jovie, it’s funny that I just read an article by the WSJ complaining about the size of PBO’s crowds as opposed to 2008. The campaign is picking smaller venues, and i believe that they could draw larger crowds if they wanted to.

    • August 29, 2012 at 4:48 pm

“but some of the magic seemed to be gone.”

      Um..jealous much?

Hey WJLA, ask any parent if a child’s fourth birthday is as “exciting” as the day the child is born. And then try telling them that it’s because the “magic is gone” and find a nice foot up ur arse.

Funny how the etch a sketches all match Lady Ann’s dress last evening. (You know – “red” was the power color for women of the ’80s.) Also the red in the real stage set at the convention, which – when they panned out – kind of made her look like she were 8 ft. tall.

Color coordinated, at least. That was all I could think of, as my mind wandered, since I had her lying lips muted.

Ann Romney Orders Hispanics To Stop Being Biased and Vote For Mitt

      By: Sarah Jones

      ———————————————

Here’s how Ann Romney wins the hearts and minds of those silly people who don’t look at issues before they vote (women and Hispanics) (emphasis mine):

      ———-

Romney said her “importance in speaking out is making sure that those coalitions,” referring to women and Hispanic voters, “that would naturally be voting for another party wake up and say, You’d better really look at the issues this time.”

“You’d better really look at your future and figure out who’s going to be the guy that’s going to make it better for you and your children, and there is only one answer,” Mrs. Romney said, giving a harsher pitch than we usually hear from the woman who wants to be the next first lady.

“It really is a message that would resonate well if they could just get past some of their biases that have been there from the Democratic machines that have made us look like we don’t care about this community,” Romney said. “And that is not true. We very much care about you and your families and the opportunities that are there for you and your families.”

      ————

Take that. If the Democratic Machine hadn’t been fooling you idiots, you wouldn’t have been voting Democratic. Of course, Ann can’t be upset with you for being easily fooled, but she is here to put you right if only you would pay attention.

Yes, because Latinos are stupid and apparently can’t think, see, decide for themselves. So they blindly follow the “Democratic machines” that have been painting those caring Republicans as uncaring, nasty IGMFY types. Latinos obviously should NOT believe their own lying eyes, ears and economic circumstances. This woman is supposed to be the Rmoney campaign’s secret weapon; the one that “humanizes” Mitt? Please. ::rolls eyes::

        August 29, 2012 at 10:04 pm

What a, ignorant and condescending woman! So she knows what’s good for Hispanics better than the people themselves. So her guy who wants to deny education to Hispanic children raised here is the one who is going to make it better for their children? Does she really think that all Hispanics are stupid? Even as bad as they are, both Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich were appalled at Mitt Romney’s lack of compassion for immigrant children who have lived here since they were very young.

It has taken me a minute to figure out this “reddit” – and I’m still not sure I do – but reading the questions and comments left by everyone is heartwarming. 98% of the comments are from people pledging to vote for President Obama, writing in with legitimate questions (although, some of them are shocking in that they are stuff that has been on the news or out there for ages) – and even many foreign writers leaving their comments about how the world is a better place because President Obama is on the job. Brilliant!

Okay I tried to create an account with Reddit. Didn’t work. Read a few questions and I had some great answer’s. Whinny law student graduated with no job. I don’t know…My brother, brother-in-law, niece and a few others are lawyers. Only one went into a practice. One was asked to clerk for a Supreme here in Florida. She taught at Miami Law School for a year and now argues for a law firm in DC. She has kicked John Roberts butt 5 times now. My brother went to work for Warner Bros for a while and now practices in a Private Law Firm. My B in Law opened his own practice. I don’t know….I pounded the pavement everyday until I found a job after being laid off.

Get off your Butt college grads. You won’t always start at the top.

Totally agree – I can’t remember a time when freshly graduated students found it easy to get work straight out of college. Not to minimize the impact of the recession, but things are only going to get more competitive from here on out – not less. When other countries are educating at a faster rate, and jobs cross electronic borders at the speed of light – kids are going to have to get more aggressive, more creative, and more persistent to compete with their peers who may be better educated, more global in their thinking and closer to where the action is (i.e. emerging countries). That’s the future.

And Martin Bashir just aired the most cringe-worthy moment of last night’s convention, one of many, but this was the winner: when Miss Ann all of a sudden yells out, “I love you women!!!” OMG, it was so pandering and transparent. Embarrassing to the max in its sheer desperation and condescension.

Observation: since the 2 keynote speakers Ann and Crispy didn’t mention our troops at all (Crispy did talk about the gubmint hand-out Gi bill his dad used), maybe PAyn Rand, Condeleeza, or one of the others will. The wanna be president’s wife too busy to trying to be poor to thank the men and women keeping it possible to speak in front of her age eligible sons in the audience.

    • August 29, 2012 at 4:54 pm

They are leaving the Neo Con stuff to tonight, and for Rubio. Tonight, John McCain and Condi Rice, will get on the stage and say that everybody hates us and he is leading from behind. Gross distortions.

      • 56 theo67
        August 29, 2012 at 5:43 pm

Yup – judging from Norah O’Donnell’s interview with Condi Rice – that’s exactly what they’re planning to do. Condi kept repeating that “we have to look forward; leave the past to the past”. Until every one of those Gitmo prisoners are out of that prison – including those who were plucked from the streets for no legitimate reason, and until the wars are over, and until the troops and citizens who needlessly lost their lives or limbs are apologized to by Bush & his cohorts (including Condi Rice) – then the past can’t be left in the past if Condi continues to pretend that she’s a legitimate foreign policy expert. Her party and that administration have to be the ones with the worst record on foreign policy (among other things). It’s highly offensive that she’s going to be speaking tonight, when she should be rotting in a jail cell, along with the rest of the war criminals from that administration.

Jovie, please understand that these juvenile antics are the media’s way of compensating for the fact that the President is smarter, more capable, more talented, better-looking, more popular, more likeable, and ALWAYS two full steps ahead of them. They didn’t see this coming and it’s bothering them. So they resort to what a typical junior high school bully would do…trying to make fun of the target whom they resent.

      August 29, 2012 at 5:46 pm

I’ve never taken Byron Tau seriously, and Politico was a hack enterprise the minute they started stenography for Dick Cheney (maybe even before). I would never have known about their worthless comments if I hadn’t read them here – and it kind of dulled my buzz from what was an entirely positive moment in the day.

  18. 66 lamh35
    August 29, 2012 at 4:57 pm

OT, but Condeleeza Rice just got “Katie Couric-ed” by Norah O’Donnell in an interview.

Condi Rice Can’t Name A Specific Obama Foreign Policy Failure

Today on CBS’s morning show, former Bush administration Secretary of State and top Mitt Romney surrogate Condoleezza Rice could not offer any specific foreign policy failures made by President Obama. Romney’s allies, led by Rice and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), are expected to attack Obama on national security grounds tonight in at the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

But when asked to offer specifics this morning on CBS, all Rice could come up with was some vague attack on Obama’s Syria policy, which, host Norah O’Donnell noted, the president himself might agree with…

    • 67 jacquelineoboomer
      August 29, 2012 at 5:04 pm

Good to hear, but it’ll take a lot more than this from Norah for her to grab back her creds, in my book. She’s a nasty Republican tool who started out as a fun-loving liberal on MSNBC, until she got the job she wanted lower on the food chain.

‘ Wealthy donors and corporations are more heavily invested in this presidential election than at any time since the 1972 Watergate scandal led to stricter campaign- finance laws.

A series of court decisions and regulatory changes in 2010 unraveled federal limits on donations, paving the way for a return of the big players. They are pooling their money in nonprofits, which keep contributor names secret, and super- political action committees, which amassed $350 million through the end of July. ‘

‘ One-quarter of that money comes from just 10 donors, led by Las Vegas casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington-based group that tracks such spending. ‘

yikes–this article then continues to name the ten top r-money donors, and how they will profit from a r-money win in november. DO NOT MISS THIS ! there is a video, also, and the optics are powerful.

Forced a friend (who still runs the occasional marathon) to do that with me. Took longer walking over grass to the taxi stand at the curb than it would have point-to-point. Even the cab driver didn’t know what to charge us. Hey, it was also the month of August when I was there. And I’d do it again. Good times.

        August 29, 2012 at 5:31 pm

They were essentially saying that Mitt Romney is lying because it works and it is a tradition for Republicans to play the race card. Also, Romney thought he could just run on the economy but that was not working. Tweety and Eugene Robinson seem to think the lying may be working. Eugene said he saw some movement in the polls. Heilemann said the test will be how President Obama and the team responds. Also, they said timing is everything. These charges coming more than two months before the election leave a lot of runway to set the record straight. Oddly enough, President Obama did just that today. He said that the Romney campaign will just make stuff up. And he quoted the Romney strategist who basically said they are not going to be dictated to by fact checkers. I am hoping that President Obama will just make that a permanent part of his campaign speech. We have a presidential candidate who does not care about telling the truth. This alone should disqualify Mitt Romney. One more thing, Eugene Robinson mentioned the fact that he saw a newspaper HEADLINE that said Rick Santorum was inaccurate about the welfare work requirement. We need to see more HEADLINES that call out the GOP lying and not buried within the article.

Terrific. This really needs to backfire on Romney’s arse. It can not become standard practice for a presidential candidate to feel he/she can lie with impunity. Romney is making a mockery of our democracy. The mainstream media really needs to get on the stick and just start calling LIES LIES.

Hello family. Just got home few minutes ago from my weekly visit with my mom. Had to stop at a convenience store/gas station/McDonald’s 10 minutes from home to use the restroom. Got back in my car and noticed a little slip of paper under my windshield wiper. Got out and took it off. It says: “Hi friend, I just wanted to let you know that some knucklehead vandalized your car by slapping an Obama sticker on it. The last thing you want is to be driving around all day, looking like an idiot. Take care. A Good Samaritan.” I actually still feel sick to my stomach. People just hate so much!!!! 😦 😦

(((tnmtngirl)))….please be careful and notice your surroundings when you park. I hope this never happens again but if it does, please go into the store and ask if they saw someone leaving a note on your car. The person was probably still there waiting to see what you did and I would have let them see me throw it in the trash. I worry for folks driving in “red” states and areas with obama stickers on their car because in the next few months when they see their side is losing, we might see more of this…SO BE CAREFUL TOD’ERS.

I had a neighbor who had a Pro-Choice bumper sticker on her car. I was new in the neighborhood but I watched this scruffy old man walk around her car and put something on her windsheild. I watched him the whole time and he saw me looking at him. When he went to his car I wrote down his car plate number when he drove off. I told my neighbor that someone was acting weird around her car. Her husband went out to the car and it was pro-life literature. The scruff old guy came back while her husband and I were standing by the car and he got out the car and said he was driving by and saw the bumper sticker he left the literature but did not damage her car. First of all she had numerous bumper stickers on her car and the pro-choice one was old and fading. How he saw it passing down the street was not believable but her husband told him it was none of his business and if he came around again he would report him to the police.

Hi, I’m Barack Obama, President of the United States. Ask me anything. I’ll be taking your questions for half an hour starting at about 4:30 ET.

      Proof it’s me: https://twitter.com/BarackObama/status/240903767350968320

UPDATE: Hey everybody – this is barack. Just finished a great rally in Charlottesville, and am looking forward to your questions. At the top, I do want to say that our thoughts and prayers are with folks who are dealing with Hurricane Isaac in the Gulf, and to let them know that we are going to be coordinating with state and local officials to make sure that we give families everything they need to recover.

LAST UPDATE: I need to get going so I’m back in DC in time for dinner. But I want to thank everybody at reddit for participating – this is an example of how technology and the internet can empower the sorts of conversations that strengthen our democracy over the long run. CNN is asking the same question – why is the president campaigning during a hurricane instead of being “more involved in disaster relief?” They are busy trying to turn Isaac into “Katrina.” But nary a peep about the Romney and GOP cavorting at the Tampa stripper clubs, drinking and having a RNC hate fest while the majority Republican states get pummeled by the storm.

CNN should focus on defending their employees instead of trying to “Katrina” the President, who was focusing on Isaac long before the CNN dummies even figured out where the wind was coming from. He’s on the case. And he shouldn’t have to tell them again that “a President has to be able to do more than one thing at a time”.

Everytime the President starts talking to the American people, the GOP and the MSM freak out.

Christine, Yes You Are a Witch, O’Donnell and the tea party woman-lookalike both appear a bit nervous around Tweety. Just a little wondering what he will spit out of his mouth at ’em this afternoon, I’m guessin’.

so “the news” is now trying to create an issue over smaller crowds sizes for president obama compared to 2008?!?! do they ever mention how much different security needs to be for a sitting u.s. president versus a candidate for president? since mittbot’s talks are beyond pathetic in terms of the crowds and their reactions, seems to me they’re doing one of their usual “turn one of president obama’s strengths into a negative,” which it seems they do now with basically any positive that president obama has. for cryin out loud, the day after bin laden was killed “the news” was already working to diminish the president’s accomplishment, and now we have that false super pac with their false claims about the bin laden raid, and now this guy with the book is talking and putting out quotes from the book already WHICH MATCH EXACTLY TO THE TALKING POINTS FROM THAT SUPER PAC AND OF THE REPUBLICANS. and of course this guy is going through fox news too. this stuff is coordinated.

they say he doesn’t give enough press conferences (even though the fact that he’s given more than most presidents), and when he does one yet again, they mock him as he’s going out the door (chuck todd). president obama literally cannot do anything right according to “the news.” thankfully, he knows this and takes it into account when he does what does. forward!!!

I happened to come across Mitt and Ann’s daughter-in-laws speaking today. Each said how they feel about Ann. Each one also said that they thought their own husband was the cute one. Ann’s advice to one daughter-in-law was to not load her husband down with minor problems of the day when he got home from work. They talked about baking pies and how Ann showed them how to cook. They were all slender, attractive women. When I was in high school in the 50’s we had a home ec class that taught these same lessons. The world is different now for most of us–but it is still the 50’s for a whole group of Morman and Evengelical families.
