I have called the MSNBC line ate 212-664-4444 and left a Great message for Chris Matthews.

      • August 27, 2012 at 11:07 am

Fantastic! So proud of Chris. GOP will pull the ‘poor us’ on the charge of racist remarks.
No, do not believe this is a chance, or oddball jokey remark by Romney. With something this sensitve, only a low IQ candidate will say something like this – if it really wasn’t intended as yucky code to his white bros.

      • August 27, 2012 at 6:11 pm

Just called and left a message for Chris. You guys are so on point. I never knew there was a way to contact MSNBC. Need to call to praise Martin Bashir — he’s always spot on too.

        August 27, 2012 at 10:14 am

And I noticed that whatever audience they had there was applauding Tweety. And Tweety’s response to Rinse’s insistence that Willard’s birther joke was just some “levity” got a big laugh——that the first and only joke that Willard has ever told was a racist birther “joke”.

Yup. I know He’s doing an Obama special next Monday, so he doesn’t want to piss off any O’bot this week. Whatever – I will take it as long as it lasts. If he continues to be good, I will reward him by watching the special on Monday.

Tom Brokaw the same guy who was toasting The producer of MTP and Politico Sr writer just 10 days ago on their matrimony. Both side of his butt…. as the nastiness is obviously indulged by The TBGOPers. They are part of the problem. Mika is truly a disgrace to what she does. She is Combs to JScar as Combs was to Hannity.

      • 38 Rita
        August 27, 2012 at 10:40 am

Mika saying, “Chris, thanks, I think?” was a disgrace! I’m calling the MSNBC hotline and chewing her out on it. Chris says the truth, and Reince Proboscis sits there and does exactly what Chris is pointing out… playing the “foreign, race” card. And none of them have the backbone to support Chris. B.S.

This just occurred to me, I wonder how much Mika is paid in relation to Morning Joke, or is she doing voluntary ‘work’ in order to flesh out her resume?

            August 27, 2012 at 6:31 pm

Hi PKay. Supposedly the liberal one…. maybe when she expands her vocabulary, develops an assertive personality or perceives that her volunteer period is over AND STARTS TO SAY SOMETHING. I hesitate to say this but I see her as a poor excuse for a woman. In fact a I see her as my mental picture of a ‘typical’ republican woman come to life.

BTW – I don’t remember who coined the label ‘Morning Joke’ though it is fitting IMO.

GAH. Geezus H. Crackers, I can’t believe this BS. Chris was the only one worth listening, too. The rest of the gang are a bunch of tools. Yes, Nospin, I agree with you. Tweety even did a commercial, where he’s asking the GOP to say that the President is an American just like everyone else, but they won’t say.. I wish I could get the clip and post it, but I am not that technology savvy.

Kudos to Tweety…job well done! He’s had his fill of the GOP’s Birther nonsense!

  7. August 27, 2012 at 10:07 am

I have never watched this show before and I probably never will again. Congratulations to Chris Matthews for not giving up, but I was disgusted to see the hosts treating him like he’d walked in with dirt on his shoes. As though he was the one who was offensive for calling out the racism, and not Priebus for defending it.

Top Ten Pieces of Bad News for Romney on Eve of Convention

// 1. Ron Paul declined the opportunity to speak at the Republican Convention because he does not “fully support” Mr. Romney. Paul as the leader of the Libertarian wing of the party and as someone who appeals to youth may just have done some damage, fomenting division at Tampa in Republican ranks.

    2. Romney staffers were hoping for a bounce in Florida because the GOP convention is being held in Tampa. But former Republican governor of Florida Charlie Crist has come out for President Obama.

    3. Some 60% of likely voters say Obama is in tune with the problems of women. Only 30% say that about Romney.

    4. Romney is so tone deaf that he keeps talking about his Swiss and Cayman Islands secret bank accounts. His complaint that he is not going to manipulate his life by closing them reminds me of the BP chairman’s complaint that the Gulf oil spill was making his life miserable.

    5. A new poll of likely voters gives Obama a 9-point lead in Pennsylvania. Romney is way behind in electoral college delegates and would need to shift a major state like Pennsylvania into the red column if he is going to win. But that strategy may not be feasible for him. //

“What take over of healthcare”? You mean the same take over of healthcare that Mitt was so proud of in MA? That the ACA was modeled after the MA plan? Seniors are not getting “LESS” healthcare in MA if not more since the ACA. It’s amazing how all those dumbasses sat there and DID NOT SAY A WORD…..they had enough of Chris Matthews CORRECTING the RNC Jerk that anymore would be piling on. August 27, 2012 at 3:52 pm

567&F, How do you counter this effectively when the media filters everything or fails to cover what the President and Democrats say? I wish you would suggest a clear practical way on how the President can convince seniors who are glued on Right wing talk radio, Fox news, MorningJoe, and Cnn. The seniors who believe everything they hear from the media can not be easily reached if the media fails to cover Democrats. In my humble opinion, I don’t think this is a failure of messaging. I think this is a total failure of the media that have elected to be either stenographers or a propaganda arm of the Republican party. Just imagine if the media people acted like Chris Matthews did by telling the truth to the American people. Seniors would not be misled by Republican propaganda.

            August 27, 2012 at 3:59 pm

Maryl1, the problem is the media do not want to run such truthful information. If people knew the TRUTH, Republicans would have very little to run on. As far as I am concerned, the national mainstream media, with minor exceptions, are the problem. Look at how the rest of the panel on MorningJoe reacted to Chris Matthews’ truth telling. If it weren’t for social media this country would be in much worse state than it is now.

Chips, thanks so much for posting this.

Priebus was so damn smug throughout this “interview,” and went completely unchallenged by everyone on the set, except for Chris.

Not a peep about GOP obstruction and lies. No mention of that PBO saying “he’s got other things on top of his car” (true statement) is considered “vile” and “nasty” by MSM, but R-money lies and changes positions daily is considered proper etiquette.

So glad that Chris stood up to that smug-beyond-words entitled GOP mouthpiece. And for the record, when my mom and I drove around town, she didn’t aspire for those big houses defacing the top of the hill. She said “nobody needs a house that big.”

I’m also sickened that MSM tweets are “appalled” by Chris’ behavior. No one else on that set questioned anything that came out of Priebus’ mouth.

And congrats, BobFR, for number 1, before 7 am on the west coast!

You’re probably right – I didn’t check the spelling. Re calling Chris – it was my pleasure to call – I am happy to do anything to help. I don’t think they realise that the world is watching – and judging. I especially hated Brokaw saying something along the lines of ‘both parties do it and the American people are sick of it’. I don’t think he gets how sick the American people are of how bad political journalism has become. That’s why there was such a reaction to Tweety speaking the truth.

          You are so right.
Only in USA of all the Western nations are our media so useless…so inept to their journalistic profession…..that the public has tuned them out in greater numbers.

The Mourning Joke, may never invite Tweety again on his show. The week before, it was Jonathan Capehart saying No to the lying cheating JS and Now Chris Matthews. This shows that other MSNBC hosts see the damage that MJ is to MSNBC. Now the rest of the Media are aware of it. They read the twitter machine. They check out HP, over 12K comments now. They check out mediaite and the buzz is ON.

Romney connects welfare to Obama’s ‘base’

    By Steve Benen

Even if we put aside the blatant dishonesty, think about the underlying argument here: Romney is saying the president’s political base wants welfare checks without work requirements.

Between this and Romney’s birther “humor,” the racial subtexts of Romney’s attacks are getting increasingly more difficult to ignore — a point Chris Matthews forcefully reminded Reince Priebus of this morning.
Note, the article makes it seem as if the attack is legitimate. Indeed, the Wall Street Journal reported, as if it were fact, that Obama “relax[ed] work requirements in federal welfare rules.”

This never happened. We’re talking about a racially-charged lie that Romney made up out of whole cloth.

But in our post-truth political landscape, it doesn’t matter who’s lying; it matters whether liars can people to believe the lie.

President Obama, why are you falsely accusing Willard of racial politics, dividing the nation, when there is no truth to that charge? I have all kinds of faith in PBO in the debates, but none in the MSM’s quest for the truth in the type of questions asked.

    A little background on Rinse.

He was the head of the Wisconsin Republican Party before becoming the RNC chairman.

In 2010 when he was in DC trying to get the job….he had Valerie Cass with him lobbying for votes.

Does that name sound familiar ? It should….she is the young girlfriend of FORMER Wisconsin Senator Randy Hopper whose wife spilled the fact that he was living with her out of his District when the recall petitioners came to her door ( She signed the petition ) Randy lost the recall.

Valerie is also the woman who got a State job paying 29 % more than the person who was leaving… it was all set up by Rinse.

Now both Randy and Valerie are unemployed.

      August 27, 2012

The Inquirer Pennsylvania Poll, led by a bipartisan team of top political analysts, concluded that if the election were held now, Obama would win the state by nine percentage points – 51-42 – with 7 percent of voters undecided.

The telephone survey of 601 likely voters, conducted from Tuesday through Thursday, had a statistical margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent. The results are comparable to those of other recent polls, including one released Thursday by Muhlenberg College, which also found Obama leading by nine points in the state.

Jeffrey Plaut of Global Strategy Group, a Democratic polling firm, said the results may indicate Pennsylvania has lost some of its “swingy-ness.” He said Friday that Democrats would have to fail to turn out their base voters to “put the state in play.”

That’s a couple days after the Muhlenberg which also showed a 9 point race. Even though Tom Corbett’s not letting a lot of people vote this year, it’s probably not going to be enough to close a 9 point gap. http://www.jongeeting.net/?p=7129

      • 197 japa21
        August 27, 2012 at 12:17 pm

There is also the fact that Romney’s basic history is the more you know him the less you likehim. So the 9% lead is not only large in itself, it is also likely to grow bigger unless something big happens. Also, keep looking at polls (state not national) where PBO is at the 51% mark. This basically means that the only way he loses that state is for some major negative event to happen.

Also, look at red states where PBO is at 5% or less behind Romney. These are states that can be swung.

    Temperature’s Rising And It’s Not Surprising (10/7/09)

So I got into it with Joe Scarborough today on Morning Joe. Joe came out of the gate hard, assigning what I think were false equivalencies between the Democratic establishment and the far-right controlled GOP, and we were soon locked in a heated confrontation. I regret that our discussion became so contentious since Joe was gracious to invite me back on and we seemed to have had a good rapport in the past. Afterwards I gave Joe a little box of Sarah Palin Embarassmints and handed Tom Brokaw a copy of my book. Joe was visibly upset. Brokaw flipped through the book and remarked to me (as I was being rushed off a very tense set), “I’ll read any book that has at least two references to Bristol Palin!”

We are supposed to believe it was just a bit of levity. In fact, Mitt Romney has built his entire campaign on falsehoods and racist dog whistles about President Obama. Why the race is no longer about the economy

    By Steve Benen

Tom Edsall has a very detailed look along these lines today, explaining that Romney and his aides have carefully and deliberately adopted a strategy “designed to turn the presidential contest into a racially freighted resource competition pitting middle class white voters against the minority poor.”

Changing demographics will make this tack impossible in the future, making 2012 the last gasp of divisive Republican tactics at their ugliest and most offensive. It’s remarkable, but Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign is coming down to this: lie to white people in the hopes that a tribal class/race resentment can propel him to the Oval Office.

It speaks to a profound weakness in Romney’s core character, and his complete abandonment of even the slightest shred of integrity, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work.

LUDOWICI, Ga. — Prosecutors say a murder case against four soldiers in Georgia has revealed they formed an anarchist militia within the U.S. military with plans to overthrow the federal government.

One of the accused troops, Pfc. Michael Burnett, pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter and gang charges in the December slayings of former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend, 17-year-old Tiffany York.

Burnett told a Long County judge that Roark, who had just left the Army, knew of the militia group’s plans and was killed because he was “a loose end.”

Prosecutor Isabel Pauley says the group bought $87,000 worth of guns and bomb-making materials and plotted to take over Fort Stewart, bomb targets in nearby Savannah and Washington state, as well as assassinate the president.

This is very scary and from reading the comments, might be more widespread than we think. When I say widespread I would not be surprised that there are factions in every military base. The military needs to do some serious house cleaning. I was watching this show about the military kicks out people who are blatent racist. There was this young white kid in his early 20’s from the south who said he likes and would protect his military peers but he was raised a racist and has racist views against all others. There were so many of his hispanic and AA peers who tried to talk to him and there was no getting through to him. He was kicked out of the service with an dishonorable discharge due to racism……and he did not care. So sad.

    Birth(er) Of A Nation!

Romney advisors told the Times in a story that appeared yesterday. There they noted that the economy simply didn’t seem bad enough to boot Obama from office or perhaps that even a really bad economy couldn’t accomplish it. So in the Times words Team Romney decided Romney “needs a more combative footing against President Obama in order to appeal to white, working-class voters” by “injecting volatile cultural themes into the race.”

Meanwhile, Tom Edsall chimes in with a more granular look at the numbers. Having failed to make any headway with non-white voters, the Romney campaign is doubling down on ads “designed to turn the presidential contest into a racially freighted resource competition pitting middle class white voters against the minority poor.”

“Think about who this economic downturn has effected the most. Blacks, Hispanics young people,” Boehner says.

House Speaker John Boehner Monday acknowledged Republicans face significant gender and ethnic gaps with Democrats, but dismissed the chances those weaknesses will end up effecting the party’s chances in November. “We’ve had a gender gap amongst men on our side for a long time,” Boehner noted, adding that in the end, “I think American women, their number one concern is economy and jobs … [and] this economy is hurting women more than it is men.”

As for the massive deficit of support from Latinos and black voters, Boehner said that while “we’ve never done well with those groups … Think about who this economic downturn has effected the most. Blacks, Hispanics young people.”

Boehner also predicted that the economic problems facing the country “will help us recruit more of those people.”

“They may not show up to vote for our candidate [this year] but I suggest to you they won’t show up to vote for the president either,” Boehner said.

Good Day all you O’s!!!!! What a great getting up day in TODville again!!!! I missed the Joke show this morning. I had it on, heard that Wince was coming up next, and turned to next hot chef or something. Gosh, sure hate I missed it. Now I have to go find the entire segment.

My political take today is that I heard on local radio that fraternities Kappa Alpha Kappa and Omega Psi PHi, both celebrating their centennial anniversaries are forming only the 2nd super pac for PBO. They are concentrating on the swing states and are asking each member to donate $100 each toward his re-election. If you know any members of these fraternities, be sure to have them look into this.

Playing the Reince Card (The Race Card’s Been Played)
    By Charles P. Pierce
    at 1:12PM

All the catz ‘n kittenz down by the Bay are quivery and twittery because Chris Matthews, on whose last nerve Willard Romney seems to jump with hobnailed boots, got all up in the slick, smug little grill of obvious anagram Reince Priebus this morning on Morning Joe’s Playhouse over the obvious racial air-raid sirens that have echoed through Republican politics only since about half-past 1964, and which have grown especially loud these past few weeks as Willard Romney made his little fun-fun about birth certificates last week, and his campaign released an ad falsely accusing the president of “gutting welfare reform,”

sorry, but not going to get too excited by chris matthews. he been doing this same game for decades. he’ll be back some stupid false equivalency b.s. by tonight or tomorrow. he was the first person i ever saw give significant air time to the birth certificate nonsense, and even though he did he’s game, “oh, i think it’s crazy myself…” but then proceeds to have people on to talk about for nearly entire shows, day after day. if it’s “crazy” then why would he deem it as newsworthy when no other major newspeople were talking about it at that time? it’s all an act. ignore him and all of them, please. if someone really wants to know what anyone of them will be saying this week, just ask me and i’ll tell you in advance. it’s all been pre-programmed over the last few decades. go to your local ofa office instead.

he’d spend half his show saying how awful it was that the media was covering birtherism, and then all he’d do is talk about birtherism.

I sent him a positive tweet to encourage more of the same, but I thought exactly what you thought. By tonight he’ll be back to the mythical white working class voter than only PBO has trouble with (and not just every Democratic President for the last 45 years). To compare the PBO/Hillary primary is ridiculous: it wasn’t as if West Virginia was going to vote for HIllary for President, for God’s sake, just because the few Dem’s in these red/swing states voted for Hillary over PBO. Don’t tell me Chris Matthews doesn’t understand that distinction. My ass.

I hear you but Tweety did the right thing this morning. This conversation was way overdue. Not talking about birtherism gave credence for people to believe that it was acceptable. So I don’t have an issue with Tweety pointing it out on his shows.

POU says it better than I could “The beauty of this smack down is that it happened on Morning Joe, which sets MSNBC’s news tone with its conservative talking points. It puts the racist elements of the Romney campaign and the Republican Party front and center, and forces people to discuss it.”

I believe today’s conversation by Tweety, along with Charlie Crist speaking at the Dem Convention, followed by prominent Repubs standing behind President Obama will make a difference. It is also a good thing for minorities to see that our white American family are also repulsed by these types of actions. Words matter.

So while Tweety will most likely go back to being Tweety by this afternoon, he has been very consistent in his statement that he rejects and denounces the GOP/Tea Party etc. agenda to disrespect POTUS. This isn’t new. The timing of Tweety being there on set with Priebus and having the ability to address this issue without any filters worked in our favor this morning and for that I thank him.

I like that nospin, “our white american family”….because we need to start thinking as one America family with people from different hues, history, backgrounds, from native americans to the newly minted citizens who adopted this country as their own.

The more me mix into a variety of cultures and become one, I am hoping that the political parties that try to divide us can’t because we have so many races in our family – AA, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, and White European.

Romney and His Race Card—“What Are You Going To Do About It?”

    By Ed Kilgore

It’s clear by now that the Romney campaign is going to shrug off the almost universal denunciation of his welfare ads (and to only a lesser extent, his Medicare ads that show a white senior frowning as the narrator says ObamaCare is “not for you”) as a pack of despicable, race-baiting lies—or use the so’s-your-old-man argument that Obama’s campaign tactics justify his own. If nothing else, his wizards probably figured out some time ago that the “welfare” crap offered a rare opportunity to hit notes equally effective with “the base” and the non-college educated white voters who make up a high percentage of this election’s “swing.” Add in the thick armor conservatives have built for themselves against any accusations of racism—now, almost by definition, they believe only liberals are racists, and only white people are targets of racism—and it was probably an easy call for Team Mitt, particularly since truthfulness is not a factor at all.
