Nope, but then again, conservatives never do. They are backward-looking and imitators by nature.

Willard wants so deeply to try to capture the same type of natural happiness and mirth that accompanies PBO’s appearances that he throws out red-meat “jokes” to get the crowd to laugh and take a quick picture of it. That’s the only way a smile will cross the faces of his crowds because he has no charisma and his actual message is depressing and negative. There’s no positive vision, no hope, just a bleak future full of more wealth for him and his buddies and more belt-tightening for the rest of us. So in his greedy, robotic mind he calculates: “I’ll get ’em to laugh at a birther joke, heh, heh, heh. See? We know how to have fun, too!” It’s like feeding people a junk food diet instead of proper nutrition. They’ll enjoy it as it goes down but regret the after-effects.

Speaking of diversity, did you see the poll in which Romney got 0% of the black vote? That’s 0 as in zero. That means they interviewed 1000 people, about 100 of whom were African-American, and not a single black person would say they were planning to vote for Romney.

        • August 25, 2012 at 6:18 pm

Saw that Joe, although the zero made perfect sense it’s just extraordinary that this is what the GOP has allowed itself become – may they pay for it for many years to come.

It was the same thing when Sarah Failin hit the campaign trail in 08. She appealed to the same ignorance and hatred. Even McCain was taken aback by the rabble’s reactions. It’s amazing, really, that in the 4 years since that losing effort the republicans haven’t come up with anything new. They’re repeating the same things to the same people. Hey TOD!

We had a phenomenal turnout at the opening of the OFA office in Largo, MD this afternoon. The Team Leaders were expecting between 50 and 75 people since this is the second office in the area to open this summer. Well the folks just kept coming and coming and coming. Hundreds of them came out today. Congressman Elijah Cummings Fired Up the crowd and was moved emotionally by the turnout. He complained (in jest) that he couldn’t find anywhere to park when he got there. It was hailed as the largest phone bank in Maryland this year!

What excited me the most was the diversity of people and the age groups. One thing that has somewhat concerned me this year was that the youth were not coming out in large numbers to volunteer in my area. Well they were there today. You talk about diversity we had everyone there today. Young, old, and every color in the universe. It was amazing.

All these folks signed up to volunteer the month of September to help keep Virgina BLUE! Our state theme in 2010 was a show of support for the President “We have your back” Mr. President. This year it’s a show of determination, “Not on My Watch” will we let them take us back 100 years.

Maryland is Fired Up and ready to kick some Republican butt!!

I’m still on the hunt for that one $3.00 donation to keep the streak alive. https://donate.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/2012/donnanoshock3

‘ The Romney-Ryan campaign has recently had trouble with popular music. Twisted Sister asked Romney to stop using “We’re Not Gonna Take It” on the campaign trail. Silversun Pickups did the same with “Panic Switch.” And Tom Morello blasted Paul Ryan for saying that he liked Rage Against the Machine. The ticket can’t seem to use any popular songs without getting in hot water. ‘

Foreign Affairs: How Romney’s Millions Went Tax-Free Overseas

    By Joe Conason

    —————————

While nobody has asked to see the Republican candidate’s birth certificate, as he said at a Michigan rally on Friday, everybody has a renewed interest in examining the tax returns he continues to withhold.

The complex and tricky tax shelters used by Bain Capital continued to emerge from as lawyers and other experts examined the hundreds of pages of previously confidential company documents uncovered by the Gawker website in an exclusive series this week. The authenticity of the documents was confirmed by a Bain spokesperson, who said that the company deplores the public posting of its proprietary materials.

Drip, drip, drip! Slowly evidence that Romney did not pay all his taxes is coming to light. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, may eventually be vindicated. As one of the tax experts said, Gawker performed a major public service by releasing these documents.

Romney-Ryan “crowds” are chilling. I had a news live feed open today and it somehow cut to the Romney-Ryan hate fest in Ohio. Paul Ryan needs to calm the fuck down with his rhetoric. It stinks of Sarah Palin. He kept bringing up this quote by then Sen. Obama about how when times are tough a lot of the white working class cling to their guns and religion (Duh…..that’s so freaking true) and Paul Ryan kept saying how he was proud of his guns, how he was proud of his christianity (implying that Pres. Obama wasn’t a good christian because he wasn’t some chest beating bible thumper) how he loved to take out his guns and go into the woods to hunt deer. How he loves to kill deer (because that’s what they do in his warped version of life in Wisconsin). He kept stoking the crowd and had people chanting in praise of guns and killing animals just for the fun of it.

Then Romney came on board declaring how he was going to make America be America again. I looked out and it was like looking at a sea of hate. It disgusted me and frightened me. Then Romney pushed on with his welfare lies and the crowd got super angry. His implications were that Pres. Obama was taking the crowd’s hard earned money and giving it to lazy welfare kings and queens. It was nauseating. Then they interviewed a woman from the despicable crowd and asked her about Romney’s birther joke and she loooooooved it. She was laughing her ass off saying how funny it was. That the joke was hilarious because Romney was talking to “his kind.”

The whole scene just made me feel that this same crowd would happily laugh and yuk it up if they were to witness minorities being lynched. It was disgusting.

Earlier this week Cape Wind signed a Purchase and Sale agreement for East Marine located on Falmouth Heights Road on Falmouth Harbor.

Congressman William Keating said, “I am honored to be a part of today’s announcement by Cape Wind that they will base its operations headquarters in Falmouth Harbor. With the creation of fifty new jobs right here on Cape Cod and the staging area for turbine assembly across Buzzards Bay in New Bedford, Massachusetts’ role as a leader in offshore renewable energy is further solidified. Given Falmouth’s prime location and proximity to premiere marine science institutions, I could not think of a better selection for the headquarters of what will become our nation’s first offshore wind farm.”

Massachusetts Energy and Environment Secretary Richard Sullivan read a personal note of congratulations from Governor Deval Patrick at the announcement. “Today’s announcement is an example of how the clean energy revolution is taking hold, and I believe it is a sign we’re not slowing down,” said Secretary Sullivan. “With the addition of 50 permanent jobs, we are growing the clean energy sector and ensuring Massachusetts continues to be the nation’s leader in offshore wind.” Secretary Sullivan said.

TOD family, our Latino rally today was an out of sight success. We filled the park with families–all of whom wanted Obama pins and yard signs, which we actually saw in neighborhood yards as we drove home. All our food and drink was consumed in less than two hours and people were still coming. We had one man making sno cones and within one half hour 240 were made and eaten and he ran out of ice. The door prizes were a big hit and we registered over 40 new voters. And let me tell you everyone –except for one protestor and two GOP spies–loves our president. And I mean LOVE him. At one point I managed to communicate with a middle aged deaf woman who had never voted in her life. Through lip reading and hand signals, she understood that if you don’t vote, you get bad people in office and we need President Obama. Well, she got it and filled out her registration. You should have seen the joy in her eyes when I gave her an Obama/Biden button. She just beamed. And all of it without a word spoken. Our local speakers kept asking “who are you going to vote for on Nov. 6? And the shouts kept coming back Obama, Obama.

Kids had a great time with the games and we got two local reporters and a photographer. People kept asking us when we were going to do it again (as if we could afford it twice), The one protestor made a fool herself saying stupid things about the president to a very patient man, who just shook his head at her. At the end of her rant, she said that of course she wouldn’t vote for Romney because he wasn’t Christian either. She had an Impeach Obama sign and some Latinos asked what Impeach meant. I said it meant the lady was loco.

All in all it was a terrific event and everybody left saying that would vote for the president on November 6. Now it’s up to us to make sure everybody does.

Statement by the President on the Passing of Neil Armstrong
Posted on 08-25 at 15:47:22 CST

// Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Neil Armstrong.

Neil was among the greatest of American heroes – not just of his time, but of all time. When he and his fellow crew members lifted off aboard Apollo 11 in 1969, they carried with them the aspirations of an entire nation. They set out to show the world that the American spirit can see beyond what seems unimaginable – that with enough drive and ingenuity, anything is possible. And when Neil stepped foot on the surface of the moon for the first time, he delivered a moment of human achievement that will never be forgotten.

Today, Neil’s spirit of discovery lives on in all the men and women who have devoted their lives to exploring the unknown – including those who are ensuring that we reach higher and go further in space. That legacy will endure – sparked by a man who taught us the enormous power of one small step. //

Bobfr – Appreciate your respect for the cause of fighting back on the war on women!

      • August 25, 2012 at 6:27 pm

From my perspective, throughout all recorded history, the stunting element in the advancement of humanity has been the subjugation of women.

        • 167 jacquelineoboomer
          August 25, 2012 at 6:41 pm

And your perspective would be right, and so it continues. Thank you for speaking out. Many “groups” (of course, it’s supposed to be E Pluribus Unum), including women and half the damn population, can be added to this old poem regarding the Holocaust:

First they came for the socialists, and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew; Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.

Tell Ms. Snowe that perhaps if she and her friend Susan Collins were a little more vocal about the extreme elements of their party from since 2009, perhaps the GOP would not be in this position right now. The chickens are coming home to roost.

How about Republicans need to fix their relationship with America, and she is one who ought to be ashame of her self. President Obama thought their were some Senators he could work with to make this economy stronger, but yet Snowe and Collins fell right in line with the McConnell and the others.

Hi TODers, so happy to be able to drop in here today. It’s been a while. I am hard at work running my organization while also volunteering for the campaign. Things are moving along really well on the campaign front. This cycle, I am less focused on team leading and more focused on local fundraising. I am hosting a fundraising event tomorrow afternoon. I am excited to host over 60 women in support of the re-elect. Chips, thank you for keeping the light burning here. Thanks to all of you who are contributing so much in your own ways to the campaign. I am always so inspired by those efforts and they help to inspire my own actions. Finally, I understand from friends at Chicago HQ that grassroots support for getting the word out about gottavote.org is really desired at this point. This will be a huge push right after the convention so I hope that everyone here will get a head start on sharing the link with EVERYONE you know. I am looking forward to the next 11 weeks. So exciting.

Mark Halperin is an embarrassment to journalism. I will never forgive him for calling President Obama an “asshole” on “Morning Joe”. As a news person, you may think it but you’ve no business saying it. Many commentators, such as Scarborough, Maddow, etc leave no doubt as to where their loyalties lie. Halperin, on the other hand, is Senior Political Analyst for Time Magazine. As such, he needs to try to walk the line between reporting, analyzing and feelings. He’s a disgrace.

So, Gov. Sussn Martinez of New Mexico denounced General Custer, for meeting with the American Indians.
You have to be kidding me?

    • 202 Linda
      August 25, 2012 at 6:48 pm

No…someone went after HER for meeting with them….

A progressive group called on Republican National Committee leader Pat Rogers to step down on Friday after emails showed him telling New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez’s staff that meeting with a group of American Indians “dishonored” Gen. George Armstrong Custer, the 19th century commander who killed scores of American Indians.

“The state is going to hell,” Rogers, who is a member of the GOP executive committee and is currently in Tampa for the RNC convention, wrote in a June 8 email released by Progress Now New Mexico. Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Col. Allen Weh “would not have dishonored Col Custer in this manner,” he wrote.

Martinez is required by law to attend the annual state-tribal leaders summit, according to Progress Now New Mexico, which called for him to step down.

“Such a blatantly racist statement against our native people is offensive from anyone, but to come from a national GOP leader and lobbyist for some of our country’s largest corporations is indefensible,” Progress Now New Mexico’s executive director Pat Davis said in a statement.

Republican officials delayed the start of the Republican Convention in Tampa on Saturday as Florida braced for Tropical Storm Isaac.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus issued the following statement on the decision:

Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th, exact time to follow.

They’re still going to say that they took care of the platform Monday. They’ll claim expediency in getting it out of the way beforehand. That, or they’ll say that for the same reason they will fore go the formality of the process and just enter it into the records. I’m betting that the platform will not be broadcast under any circumstances.

Obama vs. Romney 101: Women’s issues

President Obama won the women’s vote four years ago, and he’ll need to again to win reelection, given Mitt Romney’s strength among male voters. The Obama campaign has long argued that Mr. Romney is waging a “war on women.” Team Romney says it’s Obama who is waging war on women, with policies that have harmed the economic recovery – which harms women.

Here are some of the women’s issues on which the candidates differ.

Their is a Republican poll out there that says Romney Ryan plan great, accept major Medicare cuts, ACA sucks, austerity now.

It is the biggest form of propaganda yet from a pollster, who used to work for Bush.
It’s on Politico, so I will not post, but it is unbelievable. Basically, the whole Country is ready for Austerity and major Cuts.

    Bullshit!

Yet, the President has a 1 point lead Nationally. Now, how can the President be close, if all the questions inside of it, favor Romney /Ryan? Anyone???
