That Was A Severely Lovely Day….

Yet another TOD post that has been reblogged by Jueseppi B, despite requests that he make his own effort to support PBO rather than copying others simply to drive up his reblog’s traffic. He doesn’t take kindly to being challenged, as another woman found out: explicit. Genuine bloggers are welcome to use anything they ever see at TOD. Thanks

I’d like to nip something in the bud here, please. Let us not discuss the possibility of a Hurricane hitting the RNC convention as though it were a good thing. U.S. authorities are investigating Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS.L) for possible violations of sanctions with Iran, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

The Federal Reserve and Department of Justice are conducting the investigation, the paper said, citing several people close to the situation. The investigation comes after the UK bank volunteered information to U.S. and UK regulators 18 months ago, the Financial Times said.

Ed Canaday, a spokesman for RBS, declined comment.

    Did you see this??

For those who can’t watch clips online, the host told viewers, as the segment wrapped up, “We should point out that we have been trying to get the Romney campaign to join this debate today, and they have said that they don’t have an appropriate spokesperson.”

The Romney campaign has a small army of spokespersons and surrogates to discuss every issue under the sun — or at a minimum, repeat talking points while slamming President Obama — but when the subject is women’s health and reproductive rights, all of a sudden, Team Romney doesn’t have “an appropriate spokesperson” at all. They’d rather send no one then send a spokesperson to defend the ticket’s positions on these hot-button, in-the-news issues.

It’s almost as if the Republican presidential campaign is uncomfortable with the subject.

Liked the last part of the article:

“It has become increasingly clear that the Republican Party has been hijacked by the Tea Party and has lost all touch with reality. Personally, I think it is time for Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and John Boehner to denounce the Tea Party, no matter what the risk. They are the leaders of their party, not Rush Limbaugh. They have an obligation to denounce the Tea Party, even if it means losing an election. A failure to do so will be the death of the Republican Party as a whole.”

    Medicare Voucher Plan Remains Unpopular
Plurality Views Ryan VP Choice Negatively

Paul Ryanโ€™s selection to the Republican ticket has put the issue of Medicare squarely on the 2012 campaign agenda. And the latest Pew Research Center survey continues to find the public is aware of a proposal to gradually shift Medicare to a system of vouchers and is, on balance, more opposed than supportive of the idea.

The survey, conducted August 16-19, 2012 among 1,005 adults nationwide, finds 72% have heard a lot or a little about a proposal to change Medicare into a program that would give future participants a credit toward purchasing private health insurance coverage. And among those who are aware, the idea remains unpopular; by a 49% to 34% margin more oppose than favor the idea. This is virtually unchanged from public reactions a little over a year ago, when Republicans in the House voted in favor of this proposal as part of the โ€œRyan plan.โ€

More generally, while surveys consistently find that dealing with the deficit is a high priority for Americans, there is little support for doing so if it means entitlement cuts. When asked whether it is more important to reduce the budget deficit or to keep Social Security and Medicare benefits as they are, Americans continue to prioritize maintaining benefits.

The public offers a relatively negative assessment of Mitt Romneyโ€™s selection of Ryan as his running mate. Nearly half (46%) say Ryan is an only fair or poor choice, while 28% say he is an excellent or good choice.

Unfortunately, states DO control voting. It was immensely difficult to pass the voting rights law just for this reason.

What matters most is that our side does not vote reliably, does not look at the big picture, and if they ‘aren’t in love’, they don’t bother. Why are 50M American women not registered to vote? Why do those who are not registered support PBO 2-1 over Romney?

ELECTIONS MATTER. Deciding that passing the first comprehensive health care law wasn’t ‘perfect’ enough, when in any other Presidency before PBO, this law would have been universally cheered by all progressives, is a reason to not vote in 2010, is unconscionable. A census year has implications for the next decade.

I admit to some despair today, Tally. This freak show of a Republican party is reason enough to register and to vote. It’s OKAY to vote because you’re afraid of the other guy. Republicans have not been in love with a candidate since – ever. They vote their hate and fear and get to the polls and have changed the political calculus, the discourse, the education.

30 years ago the notion that rights are given by God and not by government would have been considered treason, if not just evidence of rank stupidity. Our government is “we the people”, we are a nation of laws, not superstition. The greatest achievement of The Enlightenment was that man could fashion a society that would respect the human mind and dignity. It is specifically made by man that makes this country great (or did). This was universally understood under Ronald Reagan joined hands with Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell and took this country through the gates of hell.

But that’s not reason enough for 50M American women to pay 10 minutes of attention a week, and vote.

Saw a comment on RawStory that reminded me of these great quotes from Plato. Could someone please tweet these to Joe Scarbrough, who seems to have just realized that he’s part of the “Stupid Party”? He might need a little Philosophy 101 refresher.

โ€œThose who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.โ€ – Plato

More wisdom from Plato with, dare I say, PROFOUND, relevance to our current political climate

โ€œWhen there is an income tax, the just man will pay more and the unjust less on the same amount of income.โ€

“The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.”

“The partisan, when he is engaged in a dispute, cares nothing about the rights of the question, but is anxious only to convince his hearers of his own assertions. ”

“They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth.”

โ€œIf one has made a mistake, and fails to correct it, one has made a greater mistake.โ€

โ€œLeaders like wars because wars remind people they need leaders.โ€

โ€œBy education I mean that training in excellence from youth upward which makes a man passionately desire to be a perfect citizen, and teaches him to rule, and to obey, with justice. This is the only education which deserves the name.โ€

“If a man neglects education, he walks lame to the end of his life.”

“Ignorance, the root and the stem of every evil.”

“If particulars are to have meaning, there must be universals.”

“I shall assume that your silence gives consent.”

    This one is freaking prophetic:

โ€œSomeday, in the distant future, our grandchildren’s grandchildren will develop a new equivalent of our classrooms. They will spend many hours in front of boxes with fires glowing within. May they have the wisdom to know the difference between light and knowledge.โ€

Chuck Todd just said that voter Enthusiasm is down for democrats. He points to a New Telemundi poll coming out shortly, saying the gap is big between Him and Robney, but that the Voter enthusiasm is low.
How can that be? Just who are these Hispanics that dont want to Vote???

    • August 22, 2012 at 7:46 am

Btw/ their are Hispanic Voters I call in Cleawater, and they are all going to Vote for Obama, so…

    • August 22, 2012 at 8:08 am

This “voter enthusiasm” meme is bull shyte. It’s the MSM’s way of trying to make it seem like Romney is doing better than PBO. They’ve been repeating this meme since the beginning of the campaign. The questions are framed to get a desired response and then the media pounces. There is NO EVIDENCE outside of the MSM propaganda to make me think that enthusiasm is any worse for DEMS than it is for Repubs.

And if they’re comparing now to 2008, then that’s a seriously flawed comparison because there was a very competitive DEM primary, followed by a new candidate. None of this is true in 2012, so we wouldn’t expect the same amount of enagement until AFTER the DEM convention in early September.

PBO is actually doing BETTER in the polls than he was doing at the same time in 2008, and that’s what the MSM doesn’t want to talk about.

    • 92 57andFemale
      August 22, 2012 at 8:14 am

No immigration reform. because PBO’s had no other battles to fight. And everything is PBO’s fault.

The executive order on undocumented children helped a lot. But yes, there is a ‘lack of enthusiasm’ in some of the Latino community. I have a Hispanic alderman and we have a lot of Hispanics in my area.

They now can keep their children on their insurance.
Pre-existing conditions are starting to be covered.
      the economy is improving.
      Student loans
Fighting for affordable higher education and training.
      But people are still ‘disappointed’.
      Better benefits for seniors

I do not understand why the entire ACA could not have been implemented before 2014. It doesn’t help that it has not been messaged well until very recently and still not all that great. People only understand what they can see and they are not seeing the full impact of ACA, even though Hispanics have said that health care is very important to them.

I’ve about had it with our fickle base.

      • 93 hopefruit2
        August 22, 2012 at 8:29 am

How were the Hispanics’ enthusiasm last year at this time? It seems to me we’re always hearing about this group or that group (usually a DEM constituent) not being enthusiastic..just a few months ago it was that Blacks were disappointed and not enthusiastic.

Did the MSM ever do a synopsis on the 20% of Republicans who are FED-UP with the GOP and plan to vote for PBO? No.

Stephanie is great, the greatest, but all the questions were RNC approved. You would have thought there was no good news in the NBC poll for Obama, as every question featured the negative aspects—-with a screen shot proving it. She kept injecting comments noting the same—‘are we going to talk about the good news in the poll?”——and nope, they never did.
Media is arising to protect Willard again. First question of Akin on Today was to make a point of how Paul Ryan called him to drop out, helping to separate Akin’s crazy views from Willard/Ryan—–when, in truth, they are the same.
Another big story out today is how Mormonism is the fastest growing religion and is now “mainstream”.
And another is how Willard is vastly outraising Obama, even in “Democratic areas”—–like New York and Chicago and San Francisco and Denver. They made it sound like thousands of ‘regular folks’ are flocking to contribute to the Willard campaign instead of making clear that all those big cities have greedy multi- millionaires who are the Repub contributors, as always.

That is true dotster. As I told Jovie yesterday, Romney has some highly paid staffers in the media. On AC360 yesterday, they did a love segment on Ann Romney (how she’s tough, how she’s great, how she’s marvelous), immediately followed by a segment on how Chicago is seeing a rise in violent crime. Not.An.Accident.
