    To #BainMitt …

To the punk running with him …

I’m delaying posting a bit because I don’t want this to be “1st” but rather a plea for folk to focus on the extraordinary reality that we have a candidate for Vice President of the United States who, literally, participated in not only planning but implementing intentional destruction of a Presidency even with the world facing a global economic depression. That is unprecedented and beyond horrible. OBL could only dream of being in such a position of power, Paul Ryan was in that position.

Ryan’s Fed policy views well outside mainstream

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Paul Ryan doesn’t quite want to end the Fed. But if Mitt Romney’s pick for vice president had his way, he might curb the central bank’s powers enough to make it harder for policymakers to respond aggressively to economic downturns.

The Wisconsin Republican has supported controversial legislation that would strip the U.S. Federal Reserve of its mission to seek maximum employment, and has been a harsh critic of the central bank’s continued loose monetary policy.

Further, he has hinted at sympathy for the days when the U.S. dollar was tied to gold, a regime that constrained the Fed from printing dollars to help the economy.

Romney’s choice of Ryan suggests the campaign could step up attacks on the Fed if the central bank moves to ease monetary policy further as many economists expect, and that a Romney White House might want to restrict the institution’s powers.

In a detailed speech on monetary policy in December 2010, Ryan hardly minced words in his criticism of the Fed.

“There is nothing more insidious that a government can do to its countrymen than to debase its currency – yet this is in fact what is occurring,” Ryan said at an event sponsored by FreedomWorks, a right-wing think tank originally called Empower America, where Ryan worked as a speech writer in the 1990s.

Such strongly worded criticism is viewed by some analysts as a challenge to the Fed’s independence, an effort to dissuade the central bank from taking the type of unconventional and aggressive actions it has pursued under Chairman Ben Bernanke.

Ryan’s perspective on the Fed is in keeping with the free-market, limited-government stance that has marked his signature budget plan and made him a favorite of Tea Party conservatives.

    Let’s not forget this! http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014197369

Romney link to union suppression ruling

A company controlled by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital ran an unlawful campaign to suppress a potential union in the 1980s, according to US court and federal agency documents.

Key Airlines, an early investment for the private equity firm founded by a young Mitt Romney and two associates, broke the law by attempting to coerce and then dismiss two pilots who tried to organise a union. Two months after a union vote failed, Bain agreed to sell Key Airlines at a large profit.

“The anti-union activities in this case are not merely unfair labour practices as Key argues, but blatant, grievous, wilful, deliberate and repeated violations of the Railway Labour Act,” Roger Foley, federal judge for the District of Nevada, wrote in 1992, in a case brought by two Key pilots.

The case illustrates an episode in Mr Romney’s business career and raises questions about how it has prepared him to manage the US economy.

It appears, based on the video, that Chris has retraced his steps from the brink of irrelevancy …. good for him … good for those whom he is informing of the profound hypocrisy of Ryan. Let us hope he does even more to show the world what an evil – yes EVIL – and dangerous power hungry nut Ryan is. Maybe this’ll help point him in the direction of what Americans really need to understand has been the Republican’s intentional efforts to destroy President Obama no matter the consequences …

ha! that’s exactly it. i think most of the democratic spokespeople are great, but i have to say gov. o’malley is in a league by himself in terms of how well he handles the crazy from the media and republicans. he doesn’t stumble at all or loose his cool, yet is clear and forceful at the same time. every time. i really hope he and elizabeth warren run for the democratic nomination in 2016, or form a ticket together. what a powerhouse team that would be, and perfect team to carry on president obama’s progress!

Excellent Gov O’Malley! Now’s there’s a way of putting it that’s riveting because over and over again it’s been deomonstrated!

      Thx JER!

This Paul Ryan video is one of the reasons why the O-team wanted him to be the VP pick. This video has basically destroyed all of the RW talking points about the economy, and the economic stimulus and recovery.

  11. August 19, 2012 at 1:17 pm

Ryan is such a Loon, he supports most of what Ron Paul supports. A huge Libertarian, that uses the founding Fathers (minus, Hamilton, Madison and Adams), as an excuse to get what He wants.
At least he does not start every freaking sentence with: The American People…

Brilliant Bob. Not sure if the video will be taken down for copyright reasons, but I wanted it to be tweetable! If it does go, I’ll try to find it again on YouTube – it needs to be spread like wildfire!

But Chipsticks…….The tape is a C-SPAN tape…originally. That is A house of Rep Tape…..it is a public tape……C-SPAN.org allows tapes to be used for public good.

        • August 19, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Hi Nena, I don’t think the C-Span part of the video would be the problem, just the Chris Hayes/MSNBC bits – although I can’t think of any times MSNBC have had videos pulled, it’s usually the other networks do that. Hopefully it’ll be fine.

      • August 19, 2012 at 2:06 pm

Agree, Chips. It’s in Chris’ & CBS’ best interest to have it spread so let’s hope they do not disrupt. Thank you for posting it!!

This is also important to show that the 4 letters he sent requesting stimulus funds (ARA) was no accident and his explanations are lies just like much of what he and Romney keep spouting.

About Medicare, one thing that doesn’t get enough attention is the fact that current workers effectively pay for current retirees. Same thing goes for Social Security. We used to have many workers per retiree, but with the baby boomers reaching retirement age, there are fewer workers per retiree. In addition, the numbers of unemployed also mean that there are fewer current workers per retiree. So to say that the current retirees have paid into the system and therefor are entitled to their benefits, but current workers are not, is not correct. The fact is we all pay in, so it should be available to all of us, not just people currently 55 and over, per the Ryan/Rmoney plan. Second, this is a contract between the generations, young workers pay for current retirees, and the next generation will pay for current workers when they become eligible for Medicare. Thirdly, it really is an insurance scheme that spreads the risk over a large pool, current workers, for a benefit that is available to all, provided they reach age 65.

What this video shows is is just what the Republicans were willing to do to bring down this President. They didn’t give a dam that Americans were struggling, were suffering. The President have always said that things the Republicans used to support, programs which were their ideas, they turn against it soon as they learn this President supported them. Ryan in that video were talking about unemployment benefits. It is a disgrace what they have done.

      • August 19, 2012 at 2:04 pm

“What this video shows is is just what the Republicans were willing to do to bring down this President. They didn’t give a dam that Americans were struggling, were suffering.”

+ 1,000,000,000 Anniebella, all I’m reminded of is Turtle McConnell’s admission that their sole aim in the last three years was to make PBO a one-term president, not to help fix an economy their policies destroyed. There are no words for these people.

Remember McConnell’s devilish verbiage in Aug of 2011? MM said that the debt ceiling crisis was A Hostage Worth Taken or Ransoming……This is a leader of a party that claims to Love America? These people…..History will NOT be Kind to them. The same goes for the National media. They abdicated their Constitutional Role.

Here’s another gem, Chips and TOD community – Robert Gibbs on on FOX News this morning! Click on the link below for the video.

// Senior Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs said on Sunday that he would not be “lectured” about running a negative campaign while GOP hopeful Mitt Romney continued to use a “right-wing nut job” like so-called birther Donald Trump.

During an interview on Fox News, host Chris Wallace noted that Romney had been accusing President Barack Obama of waging “a campaign of division and anger and hate.” “I’m not going to get lectured by Mitt Romney or anybody on the Romney campaign about the tone of this campaign,” Gibbs explained. “This is a guy that’s flown all over the country saying he’s not sure whether the president believes in America.” //

” But among three groups where Romney has to hold on or make major gains—the elderly, women, and Hispanics—Ryan is a trifecta of voter alienation.”

      great article–thanks, df.
