Paul Ryan is explaining to seniors why it is a good thing that they are the last group to have medicare as it currently stands – they seem to be cheering the demise – it is sad that people will vote against their families – and themselves.

Paul Ryan has the serious and oh so sad face on – and then we see the crowds wanting to see the President – and his positive love of people and country – and you just know he is going to get 4 more years.

I have been worried since seeing the GOP plan on how to convince seniors to want the changes to Medicare that they might be able to do it. I especially hated the idea of using their moms for props. I read the polling was working out well in lower races that employed that method. I am thinking that older people that have been Republicans most of their lives will believe another older person and moms would not think their sons or daughters would harm anyone. So sad! Hope the truth wins out. Mitt’s white board simplification was such a lie and so demeaning. The bottom line with bankrupt under Obama and solvent under Romney’s entry was pathetic. It would not have even measured up to my past third grade classes intellect.

Has anyone been watching the Ayn Paul Florida event? What’s it like? Many people? A lot of tweets saying it is boring and he is a bad speaker. Has he dragged out his poor, old mother yet? One thing I’ve noticed is that the GOP are lying in trying to pass Ayn Paul off as a working class boy just because he’s from Janesville. He’s NOT – he’s a rich kid – not as rich as Willard but still very privileged. I think we should start pushing back if we see any media perpetuating this myth – the earlier we nip it in the bud the better. LOD laid out the case for Ayn Paul as rick kid last week. It was excellent if anyone missed it.

      August 18, 2012 at 11:02 am

No idea how many people – they NEVER give a crowd shot. Behind Ayn Paul is 1 woman responsible to take a photo ever 5 minutes, 3-4 folks with flags – one waves it once in a while – 2 folks with signs that pop them up and down if there is clapping. I couldn’t see the usual black man – he may be too young for this crowd.

I listened a little – everyone cheered when he explained they will keep their medicare – who cares about anyone else – children? grandchildren? and yet again the $700 billion that the President was stealing got mentioned (EVERYONE has called that LIE – why does anyone listen/believe – very sad).

Ayn looked very sad and serious as he explained to the old ones that only R & R could save them. Lot of twaddle – I stopped watching before he dragged out Mom. Not seeing any hugging as he walks in the crowd. People seem to want autographs – must think they can make a few $$ with them – hahahahaha.

Hugging? Who would want to hug that zombie eyed granny starver?? It would have all the charm of hugging a frozen pole. Don’t forget, these events are carefully screened so they know how everyone will behave. No chance of an outlier getting in.

Thank you, Jesus, for my MUTE button. CNN is showing Lyin’ Ryan @ The Villages in FL. While I’m sure there are a lot of retired Democrats who also live there, it’s surely the home of a bunch of older white racists from around the country, too. Yes, I said it! They hosted Sarah Failin’ there in ’08, as well. Hey, Ryan’s mom, don’t go leading your Eddie Munster boy astray like that in front of your fellow seniors. Not a good image.

Kiss Social Security and Medicare goodbye with the likes of Romney and Ryan at the helm (as if).

Just think about how ludicrous this is!! http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2012/08/17/verified-incidents-of-voter-fraud-are-more-rare-than-african-quaggas/

    A comment:

So if I am determined to commit voter fraud, I would have to show up on election day and know a particular name on the rolls of a particular polling place. Then I would have to assume that the person I had chosen to impersonate hadn’t already voted and been checked off the list. And for what personal benefit?

It’s pretty obvious these new voter ID laws are just solutions in search of a problem. And the problem for the Republicans initiating these laws is that too many people might vote for Democrats in November. That is voter suppression, plain and simple.

I see he’s paraded mom across the stage in the most Republican district in Florida. I didn’t hear the enthusiasm I would have expected in such a district.

My political take today is it’ll come down to GOTV. The 3-4% undecided aren’t going to make their minds up until they get in the voting booth. The decideds aren’t changing their minds and it’ll boil down to how many actually get to the polls.

    MORE tax issues????????? http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/08/18/1121492/–Mitt-Romney-s-2010-Tax-Disclosure-May-Be-Lacking-Unlrelated-Business-Form-Says-Sen-Matt-Baucus

Jasson Cherkis, of Huffington Post reports that Mitt Romney’s 2010 Tax Disclosure May Be Lacking ‘Unrelated Business’ Form. This is in addition to the previously discussed lack of the itemization of the schedule itemizing foreign bank holdings.

WASHINGTON — Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s tax returns may be more incomplete in their public release than was previously thought. Filings related to Romney’s individual retirement account, already subject to press scrutiny, indicate that the presumptive GOP nominee should have filed a form accounting for unrelated business income taxes. …
From what Romney has disclosed, there is mounting circumstantial evidence that the IRA may hold offshore investments through what are known as “blocker corporations,” which help him avoid paying taxes. Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.) told The New York Times, “From what I have read about Governor Romney’s tax returns, I think it raises very serious questions.”

“We know Romney’s IRA has Bain funds in it,” explained Rebecca J. Wilkins, senior counsel for federal tax policy with the nonpartisan Citizens for Tax Justice. “Bain private equity funds are listed in those assets and those funds are located in the Cayman Islands.”

Wilkins says that if Romney’s IRA held those funds directly, instead of through a blocker corporation, a 990-T should have been filed. “Typically it doesn’t even have to file a tax return,” Wilkins says. “But if it has unrelated business income, then it has to pay the unrelated business income tax.” And a 990-T would need to have been filed.
HuffPost previously uncovered another document that likely should have been filed among Romney’s 2010 tax returns, which would have provided more details on his overseas bank holdings. Such a form has yet to be released by the Romney campaign.

Anyhow, I’m headed out to my OFA office to see how I can help them today. No canvassing for me cause I’ve suffered with tendonitis in my left foot since Tuesday but after watching that inspirational video, “We’ve Come To Far To Turn Back Now” I’ve got to try to do something for OFA today.

If you can spare a couple hours please consider volunteering today at your local OFA office. https://my.barackobama.com/page/s/become-a-volunteer

Also, I’ll need to keep my streak alive so if you can spare a $3.00 donation it would be greatly appreciated.

There was a posting on yesterday’s TOD blog that was from the GOP plan to counter the Medicare attacks that listed taking a mother or older person with them to speeches to show they had someone to care about verifying they would not want to hurt seniors. Ads in some races have effectively countered the Medicare worries using their mothers showing a rise in poll numbers. I think this technique could work so it scares me.

ISLAMABAD — A missile launched from a U.S. drone struck a suspected militant hideout in a tribal region in northern Pakistan where allies of a powerful warlord were gathered Saturday, killing five of his supporters, Pakistani officials said.

The strike in North Waziristan against allies of Hafiz Gul Bahadur, a militant commander whose forces frequently target U.S. and other NATO troops in neighboring Afghanistan, comes amid speculation over whether Pakistan will launch an operation against militants in the tribal region.

The U.S. has pushed Pakistan repeatedly to take such a step and earlier this week U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta told The Associated Press that Pakistan was preparing an operation targeting the Pakistani Taliban in North Waziristan.

    Morning everyone,….

Happy Birthday Chips…a little late….and it’s great to have Snark back!….

I don’t know if that story was here last night…..I had so much problems with this site lately…it takes me forever to refresh the page…..

    Just in case.

The leader of the Anti-Obama Navy Seal Super Pac, Gabriel Gomez…works for Advent International, partner with Bain Capital, big Romney donors.

I saw him on Hardball last night, it was disgusting.

So we know who’s funding them now.

I also saw this little gem

Former Navy SEAL Team Six Commander Says Special Ops Assault on Obama Is Just Beginning

So if it’s just the beginning of their vicious attacks, the truth has to come out about the connection with Bain Capital and Romney.

    • 89 hopefruit2
      August 18, 2012 at 11:24 am

Yes, there was quite a bit of discussion about that Navy Seal and his swiftboater Teabag group on TOD yesterday. The humiliation that Gomez received on Hardball was also discussed here on on Twitter and elsewhere.

Something tells me that what these RWNJ’s thought was going to be a very successful swiftboating attempt is going to turn out to be another epic FRINGE FAIL. The organization claimed this assault was “just the beginning” before Gomez’s arse got eviscerated by Smerconish and Stoltz yesterday, so I will wait to see what they come up with. It’s not going to be as easy as they thought. This is not 2004, and President Obama is NOT John Kerry.

On a lighter note, it seems that “Rage Against The Machine” has sent the Ryan campaign a cease and desist letter for using their music at their rallies: “Ryan *is* the machine we have been raging against for two decades [expletive elided] !”

Is it just me or is it really the case that the GOP is getting more and more stupid over the years ?

I can’t imagine the CREP (Nixon’s reelection campaign, though responsible for Watergate) being so stupid as to play this at their rallies:

Note that this is a live performance in Western Germany in 1973, but the song already featured on her 1972 album, in time for Tricky Dick’s re-election …

He’s a bloody journalist and he doesn’t know POTUS has been having interviews and pressers with local journalists?

  29. August 18, 2012 at 11:41 am

From advanced excerpts of Obama’s remarks in Windham, New Hampshire

“The centerpiece of my opponent’s entire economic plan is a new, $5 trillion tax cut, a lot of it going to the wealthiest Americans. And his new running mate, Congressman Ryan, put forward a plan that would let Governor Romney pay less than 1 percent in taxes each year. Here’s the kicker: he expects you to pick up the tab. Governor Romney’s tax plan would actually raise taxes on middle-class families with children by an average of $2,000.  Not to reduce the deficit, or grow jobs, or invest in education but to give another tax cut to people like him.

“Ask Governor Romney and his running mate when they’re here in New Hampshire on Monday if they think that’s fair. Ask them how it’ll grow the economy, or strengthen the middle-class. They have tried to sell us this trickle-down fairy dust before. It didn’t work then and it won’t work now. It’s not a plan to create jobs. It’s not a plan to cut the deficit. And it’s not a plan to move our economy forward.”
