Charles Pierce: These are some things the president of the United States cannot say but that I can say about him. Because he is a black man, he has an obligation to be grateful to the white people who voted him into office. Because he is a black man, he has an obligation not to use the full powers of his office in such a way as to alienate any of the white people who so graciously voted him into office. Because he is a black man, he has an obligation not to use the full advantages of his office in his effort to get those white people to reelect him as their president for another four years. Because those white people voted him into office, his primary job as president is to make sure his entire presidency is a demonstration of how far we’ve come as a nation on race, and that means he is not allowed to do anything or say anything that the white people who elected him can perceive to be divisive, because his primary function is to make them feel good about themselves. In theory, at least, all presidents are servants of the people who elected them. In the case of Barack Obama, it has seemed from the start that the idea as applied to him was more than mere metaphor. He is the first president in my lifetime whom the country felt obligated to remind that he know his place.
The rules of the office changed on him just about the second that his hand came off the Bible in January 2009. Every benefit of every doubt that ever was given to every president, good or bad, was not given to him…..
…. It has been hard not to notice that he is the first president in my lifetime who is treated as though he has been given permission by the country to lead it, a permission that can be rescinded at any time, for whatever reason, fair or foul.
…. The event of him is still remarkable. The idea that America elected a black man to be its president forty years after it declined to allow Martin Luther King Jr. to stand on a balcony without getting shot still maintains its power to awe and inspire. Of course, he can’t make full use of that, either, because as we know by virtue of his very election, race is no longer an issue in this country. But the rest of us can make of it what we will. Even in this, his second cautious, no-drama campaign, there remains a sense that you could get in on the making of history again. It’s time for Barack Obama to be as bold as he wants the rest of the country to be. If the path is narrow, you might as well run as walk.

Happy 12 Millon!!!
Clink!! 🙂

Congratulations, Dudette, for first place!
Congratulations, Chipsticks, for 12 million hits!!
🙂 🙂 🙂
Thanks theo!
Congrats on first Dudette.
Congratulations Chips and thanks for this amazing site
Greetings TODville!
Climbing out from under the pile on my desk at work to say CONGRATULATIONS ON 12 MILLION CHIPS!
Also, congrats on 1st place Dudette. I haven’t been posting lately because of work, but I still lurk daily. It’s the only way to stay sane in this election cycle. Now back to work for me.
Thank you kindly! 🙂
Dudette, Isonprize,Walking_on_sunshine, thanks for the information on Aug.5 regarding the lady I met at the diner in Florida where I am vacationing. She went to the website provided And obtained info as well as called the number. Turns out the person who was helping her was accessing this info. I told her just to do whatever they are asking, x-rays etc. and she is. Also I made sure she knew who was responsible for ACA and to ensure she votes. I didn’t push to find out if she will vote DEM, but I dropped enough clues as to which way she should vote. Lol. She thanked me for the info and passed it onto to several other people who was unaware. I also gave h the TOD link and she said she was snooping already from the link I gave her before. she put the TOD link in her pocket today. Mission accomplished.
Ello, ello, ello…. Is there an echo in here? [humming and tapping while the crowd assembles] 😛
‘k, I’ll just do a repeat-thingmadoddle… and bring my humble little post on over from the previous thread. Smooches!
======================
First Lady Michelle Obama was a guest on the Tom Joyner Morning Show this morning on the radio talking about her girls, the Olympics, Eric Benet’s voice vs. PBO’s voice, and her “It Takes One” GOTV campaign for Obama 2012. Needlesstosay she was wonderful as always.
Tom is a HUGE Obama supporter from way, way back. I love his pet name for The President — “Big Chief”

I’m desperately trying to find audio online of the TJMS jingle they played between the two segments where they mixed POTUS singing Let’s Stay Together with Jay-Z rapping. It was so nice. If anyone finds it before me, please, please, PLEASE post it!
I was busy posting a reply to you about this on the last thread, when you ducked out. Congrats on first.
Hi Ther, cookemom! I just went back there to see what was going on. 🙂
Sorry to hear they moved to a station with a weak signal in your area. That sucks rocks. But you can catch segments of the show online here: http://www.blackamericaweb.com/IfYouMissedIt
thanks.
Dudette, thanks for the hook up so we could listen to FLOTUS on the Tom Joyner Show. I really enjoyed it.
Top 5
Dudette, looks like you’re here all by yourself girl!! But, I’m here with ya!!
Hi LadyTNT! Nice to have finally have some company! 🙂
A great piece by Pierce.
Since Boehner have been speaker and they’ve had control, have the Republicans accomplish anything. I say no.
Aren’t they all on a 30 day vaction?
#SonOfBossMitt
Keeping this in front of right wing hacks is pure joy ….
Granted, Charles Pierce stated he felt he could say what the President couldn’t, and I appreciate the start of the article for what it is, but I still always stop reading when someone writes anything like “It’s time for” the President to “do” anything. President Obama knows exactly what he’s doing, when to do it, and what to do. And what to do next. I’ll be humbly and figuratively standing by his side for the next four years of it.
Ditto, Jacqueline …
#ADollarADayToOFA
Hollah!
Hey, you read my mind…..LOL! Seems to me with that one statement, he bellows like the people in the article he writes about. He is not obligated to do any thing or be any thing other than what he has been doing, and who he has been.
No mind reading here, but I knew you were going to write that! Ha! I agree with your every word. And even if the “suggestions” from the writers are credible, let them run for office and make those their platform, if they’d like, because he’s got this.
right there with you jacqueline. I call bs on that line by Pierce… how is he any different than what he was lamenting in the beginning of his piece?
Agree to the max.
And I will be standing beside you, one among millions!
🙂
Me too. PBO needs us to back him up not issue directions. It’s fun to speculate about what the campaign may do next but when it veers into instruction it seems disrespectful to me. With you Pamela, Jacqueline ,Sheri etc.
Thank you 🙂 I’m 62 and was there for the civil rights movement in the sixties. All I will say is I love my president, the first family, and PBO’s leadership team. PBO knows exactly what he is doing and so do I. Charles needs to wait for the book because he cannot begin to understand that PBO is the smartest, bravest and most strategic AMERICAN PRESIDENT EVAR!! If you want to know what to say, take your cues from the President.
By the way, I have not met one white person (and I’m talking seniors) who is voting for LYIN MITT. Not one!! They are all voting BLUE. Why? Well let’s see, there’s medicare, social security, food banks, legal assistance, and the great senior lunch program for low income seniors. And don’t forget their grandkids. Seniors love their grandkids and anyone planning to implement policies to hurt their grandchildren are gonna go on their sh*t list. And don’t get me started on GOP transvaginal probe policies. We senior sisters remember the days of coathanger abortions and we don’t want to go back to that back alley – EVAR!!
Wow! Let ‘er rip! Excellent points raised, and I’m 65, so I know all of those feelings!
I agree with you, Jacqueline. I agree with the starting statement, but what Charles Pierce ends up doing in the article is somehow blaming President Obama for the racism and disrespect that he’s received – from the left and the right. He has been an honourable President, and handled the poor treatment with grace and aplomb. President Obama can’t be blamed for the poor behavior of others. He’s done a FANTASTIC job, and he’s kept his eye on the ball. He’s completed the work HE set out to do – and tough luck to those who didn’t get their ponies. He never promised anyone any ponies.
In fact, what Charlie Pierce should have ended with is the fact that it’s not President Obama who should be grateful for working and winning his election fair and square. It’s the American people who should be grateful for the fact that President Obama is an exceptional human being, who loves his country enough to ignore the way some of his countrymen and women treat him, and wake up every day to serve them, regardless.
Very well stated theo67
The testimonials for PBO continue. I feel like I’m in church!
I find that article incredibly insulting. Another liberal white man telling POTUS how he should handle the minefield that is racism. Give me a break. This is a terrible, terrible article. It sounds like something Bill Maher could have written.
Maybe we should all take these comments over to his site. I couldn’t finish the article, couldn’t get past the one statement that did me in, so I’m not sure comments are welcome, but there are some eye-openers in what y’all are saying today.
I totally agree with you, JO! Although Charles Pierce did say some good things, I was disturbed by his underlying premise that President Obama has not been acting boldly because he fears offending white people. By any reasonable standards, President Obama’s record of achievement in his first term is one the best of all the 44 presidents. The divisiveness in the country is not his doing. Rather, it’s the product of those who, from day one, were determined to undermine and delegitimize his presidency. On the other hand, I think he has brought more unity among ordinary people as is clearly evident from all his rallies. Yes people have disrespected him (Republicans, the left, the right, the media and some holier than thou black intellectuals like Cornel West)), but that hasn’t stopped him from acting boldly and governing the country effectively.
The suggestion to take these remarks to Charles Pierce’s site is a good one. I am an older white woman and felt the same way. This is not on the President’s shoulders. This is on the people’s. He has done more than humanly possible, I think, and with it all kept calm and focused. One point I agreed with, is that if Hillary had been elected, these same people would have been after her the night of her inauguration too. Can you imagine how many times Rush Limbaugh would have said “Feminazi” referring to her?
This article shows that the American people need to grow up, to catch up with our President and wife! Including Pierce.
hey Jackie…
i was at work when i read his post….
you would think that by now folks have stopped trying to pigeonhole the President….
telling him how Blk folks are supposed to be and act…and then telling him that the problems are his because he created them…what nerve…what gall…
and then…and then…. to top it all …proceeds to tell the President what he should do….
Ooooooooooooooooooooooo weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…..
he is so full of his own importance….mercy…
PBO is doing just fine ……
and Jackie….i did not read the whole article either…..
Enough…
Forwarddddddddddddddddd>>>>>
Fucking incompetents as ceo irritate me the most.
Guess what you guys, last night I phone banked and I got a BIRTHER!!!! I real life birther!!! I couldn’t believe it. The convo went like this. I asked if he would mind sharing who he would be supporting in the election and then he asked who I was working for. I told him the grassroots organization for President Obama. Then he said, “No one in this house will be voting for Obama again” The word “again” caught my attention, so I asked what has happened that made you change your mind about supporting him. He said, First of all, he hasn’t proven that he is a citizen!” My jaw dropped. I’m sure I had a stunned look on my face. I said, “sir, that is not true. He’s even showed his long form birth certificate!” He just went off on a tangent talking about no he hasn’t and I have done research on him and before I could come back with a rebuttal, he hung up. All of us in the room busted out laughing when I got off that call. You see these people on tv, but you never know how real the stupidity is until you speak with one. Suffice it to say the whole night was not like that, I spoke to quite a few Obama supporters and they all weren’t young either. The calls were made to NC, btw.
Well LT, you’ve earned your stripes today(and a cookie)! Thanks for soldiering on for us and keeping your sense of humor! Much love!!
Thanks Dudette, I’ll take a soft chocolate chip cookie if you have it!
Yum! http://howtomakechocolatechipcookiesfromscratch.org/wp-content/uploads/cookie-b.jpg
As a bonus, check out this yummy-goodness from our own meta:

Looks tasty (in my PBO voice) Thanks Dudette!!
Dudette, “HE” probably never voted for PBO in 2008, but someone in his household did, maybe his wife. I called a woman in Colorado but her husband answered by saying EVERYONE in this household is a Republican, don’t call back. This was from OFA’s list of Independents and people who voted for the President in 2008.
Thanks for volunteering LTNT. I am sure you’re quite a bomb. 🙂
Laughing at the birther racists a better medicine.
Yep, I’m the bomb. If I must say so myself!! LOL!!
If I didn’t laugh, I would get angry and I don’t have time for that. On to the next one!!!
Thanks, LL! I will have to get on my phone and retweet that. I can’t get on twitter on my work computer. Fortunately, they haven’t blocked TOD!
Yeah, NC is the place i get the most bizarre calls.
Wow, that’s unusual cause normally the call list are of people who support Dem or lean Dem. Then again, he did say he voted for him the first time. So did PBO become unborn in America in the last few years? Maybe this guy just won’t accept Hawaii as a state, the earth is round and revolves around the sun, or that $arah Pay’em really can’t see Russia from her house.
These people always lie with that line “I wont be voting for him again”. It is almost always followed up with a lame excuse or outright lie. Unfortunately, I dont have a lot of patience for that mess and would have told to vote for the other guy. Btw, Tom Joyner has an app that you can download. Hope that helps.
Yeah, I think he was lying about voting for him in 2008. There is no way you can be a birther now and wasn’t one then. I told the other volunteers that he had to be lying because they were calling him a muslim and everything back in 2008. And you mean he wouldn’t believe that, but he would believe he wasn’t born in America. Puh-lese!! He should have just kept it real and said he was a teabagger, LOL!
In flipping channels awhile back I caught Sarah P telling Bristol and her middle daughter not to admit you don’t know something. It was in reference to her saying she had to go study about Syria as she didn’t know anything about it while her daughter made some lame reply that showed even less knowledge. I continued flipping channels when I discovered it was a show about Bristol called Life’s a Trip. The weird part was Sarah admitted to knowing nothing about Syria while she told her daughter to never admit that knowing she was being filmed.
Bless your heart Ladyhawke! These are the kinds of people that Romney needs to win. Ignorant, paranoid, bigoted…Something tells me that this particular guy did not vote for PBO in 2008, but probably someone in his household did…most likely a female in the home..who’s probably scared as hell of him and pledged to not vote for PBO at his behest. You never know with these types…
Yep, you’re probably right because I initially called asking to speak to a lady and then when he asked who I was, that’s how I started a conversation with him anyway.
Ooop..I’m sorry for calling you Ladyhawke – I meant LadyTNT!!!
It’s all good!
Deserves a repost.
Precious, precious, precious!!
😀
This just shows once again, PBO understands peeps of all ages: even toddler peeps, whose favorite thing is to toddle walk or toddle run. I love my President so much.
What’s this? We don’t get prizes anymore? Well, dang, it’s been so long since I got first, I didn’t even know the procedure changed!
Harrumpph!! 😦
No, this one expresses my feelings a bit better

They’re both cute, Dudette! 🙂
Teeheehee! Both those pics get your message across . 😆 😆 😆
{{{{Dudette}}}} No the practice hasn’t been stopped…..exactly. It just seems that way because Chips Chica has been so busy …..elsewhere. 😉 😉 Me, when I win and see no prize, I console myself by the thought that CC is compiling a special Awards album to be released at some future unspecified date. The thought helps ME, along with the thought that she has been really busy of late yet she still nurtures our haven with luscious and timely pics and posts. I’m cutting her some slack……for now. 😉 😉
Thanks vc. Good way to look at it. I’ll stop being whiny and remember how lucky we all are that Mama Chips still keeps things going beautifully for us while she’s out dealing with her real life. She really is a treasure.
‘She really is a treasure.’
That goes WITH(out) saying! 😛 We lucked
outin! [Who comes up with these seemingly ‘opposite’ sayings, I wonder? 🙄 😉 ]That was an interesting article. I am still thinking about it. I really don’t agree with the author. Truthfully I am a middleclass white woman who thinks our President ha been a great leader. Maybe I just don’t get it. As a matter of Faith I feel we all have an obligation to be greatful.
I’m a middle class black woman, and I don’t get it. At first, because of the sarcastic tone, I thought the piece was written by a black man. But, I thought, a black man would not have said, “there’s some things the President can’t say, but I can say ABOUT him” (not FOR him.) From that strange opening, the narrative took an even stranger lecturing tone that really threw me. Then that odd statement about not “allowing” MLK to stand on the balcony. By the end of the portion of the article posted here, I knew it wasn’t written by any black writer I’d ever known, not even a conservative, so I clicked to read the entire article, and taken as a whole it was horrifically off base and even worse than the portion posted here (why is it here?).
I have no idea what his point was, or even why he wrote this odd piece. But, I don’t think it was intended to be complimentary, and in my mind it WAS NOT. It came off as condescending and dismissive.
Again, why is it here??

VP Biden reveals what many of us have known for the past 3+ years
Biden: McConnell decided to withhold all cooperation even before we took office
By Greg Sargent
I’ve got my copy of Michael Grunwald’s new book on the making of stimulus, The New New Deal, and there are a lot of juicy nuggets in it. In particular, it may shed new light on the degree to which Republicans may have decided to deny Obama all cooperation for the explicit purpose of rendering his presidency a failure — making it easier for them to mount a political comback after their disastrous 2008 losses.
Grunwald has Joe Biden on the record making a striking charge. Biden says that during the transition, a number of Republican Senators privately confided to him that Mitch McConnell had given them the directive that there was to be no cooperation with the new administration — because he had decided that “we can’t let you succeed.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/biden-mcconnell-decided-to-withhold-all-cooperation-even-before-we-took-office/2012/08/10/64e9a138-e302-11e1-98e7-89d659f9c106_blog.html
The Germane one would have been after the 2000 elections and Jeffers defected and became an independent. The Dems could have mad GWBush’s life Hell on Earth. They didn’t. They gave him, No Child left behind, a tax cut in 2001, they worked with him after 9-11. They didn’t exploit the attack and they didn’t work Bush and Co over Not listening to the Clinton Crew and their warning about Al Qaeda.
That IS a better example. And I somehow think that the GOP would have worked with Hillary if she’d won. Gee, wonder why?
Well, LL, I don’t think the media would have let Harry Reid get away with it. They would be hounding him non-stop. By the way, I am absolutely convinced that a great many in the media were very much aware of the Republican strategy and they kept quiet. I also think that many decided to join the Republicans in making sure that President Obama failed. At 66, I’ve observed the media treatment of newly elected presidents. Generally new presidents get a six month honey-moon. This was not the case with President Obama. Media attacks on the President began soon after he took the oath of office and they have never subsided.
On Jan 20, 2009, Frank Luntz, Newt Gingrich, Jon Kyle, Eric Cantor, Tom Coburn and about 17 more TBGOPers held a 4 plus hour meeting plotting the demise of a New pres. It was a political Coup ‘d tat and just weeks ago, on Politics Nation under the Rev Al Sharpton’s peppered questioning, Newt Gingrich pretty much confirmed the meeting. They have been coordinating. They had the Dick Cheney on Jan 29, 2009, started with media audience attacking pres Obama of being more friendly to Al Qaeda. The Lazy MSM regurgitated all the Dick Cheney’s lies. It has continued till today.
Charles Pierce got it mostly right. I have a few bones to pick with his characterization of how then Senator Obama presented or portrayed himself to the world. Pres. Obama knows who he is. He knows what he’s had to go through to carve out an identity for himself so it’s not his fault that people use him as a blank slate to project all their hopes, dreams, desires, and yes; hate onto him. He didn’t ask for that. He knows his values and he simply shared his ideas of a better, more hopeful, more courageous, more diverse, more equal, more bold America. That’s always been his stance and those who failed to listen when he spoke of the good; and the immense hard work and sacrifice it would take to reach that fabled mountain-top have only themselves to blame.
Where Pierce got it right was with the rest of the article. When anyone compares the amount of hate, racism, and sheer degrading insults Pres. Obama has received from self-professed liberals and conservatives alike to what Bill Clinton faced, I want to scream at them for a prolonged amount of time. Bill Clinton did not face an iota of what a “skinny kid with a funny name” has faced since before he placed his hand on Lincoln’s Bible. Not a single iota so please don’t use that as a caveat or some warped analogy or comparison. Pierce got it right with his description of White America; especially White Liberals. They feel this sense of ownership over Pres. Obama just because they ticked his name off instead of John McCain. They feel a sense of entitlement and supercilious smugness in the way they talk about him or to him. So you voted for the man. Congratulations. That shouldn’t give you the right to dictate to him as though he were a slave and you the slave owner or the benevolent abolitionist. White liberals; especially those on TV, pat themselves on the back for a job well done in helping to elect a Black man and then sit back and abandon him when the going gets tough. White conservatives; Hah! We see their hate of his skin color a mile wide with their “I want my country back” pronouncements.
Charles Pierce is right to rip the scab from the wound and expose the gory details beneath. Yes you may be a chest thumping die hard liberal who goes on TV (or not) decrying everything the conservatives have unfairly projected unto Pres. Obama; but look within yourself and own up to your blind-spots where it concerns this President.
Your analysis is ‘spot on’. 🙂 We have such great writers.
Thanks, UT- I read the article and you articulated what I felt reading it. I was 66 when PBO ran for President and lived in TX at the time. I saw some of that with some of his supporters, putting so much of their hopse in him, like he was goimg to cure the world and them. I kept says, no, no, no, he is going to be a good President but he will govern for all people. He was pragmatic, a smart man that knows and studied our country and people for a long time. So the emprogs can say all they want, they are not his base, but they do and did cause a lot of trouble in 2010. And people just done’t quite understand, you can’t have a business community w/o educated people, infrastructure, * R&D. Our President has done a great job in steering our country out of this depression, and that is what I will call it. Our problem is the idealogues who can se what is right before their eyes, just because he broke the mole of what the stereo typical educated Black man should be and he is smarter than 3/4 of the population that call themselves the elites. Our President has said all of this over and over again. I wish the people would listen.
We have the OFA bus coming into Rochester this Monday with some campaign people and officials, I was asked to participate in the round table with them all. TV cameras and all. Face makeup that day 🙂 I am going of course and will report back how is all went. I widh the President would be there, but I will take his surrogates 🙂 Sorry for the rambling. 😉
Not ‘rambling’ to me, Roberta. Can’t wait for your report! Some of us live off the experiences of you pro-active TODobots because that’s as close as we’ll get. to boots on the ground, and since I have an extra strong belief in the one-2-one focus of FLOTUS I love to hear feedback about phone calls and meetings, and whatever out there. Can’t wait!
Well said. I’d just add to one part from “Pierce got it right with his description of White America; especially White Liberals.” It’s a whole group of white liberals, but not all. And it’s mostly far-left white liberals, and all of the self-proclaimed white liberal pundits on the teevee. Still a hefty group. As a white liberal (and proud to know what that liberal part means), I will never forget a number of things that happened throughout the ’08 campaign and election night. One was seeing the dejected (almost deeply depressed) look on Rachel Maddow’s face when candidate Obama beat candidate Hillary Clinton, her white liberal of choice, and then he went on to win the presidency, and Rachel would then have to pretend she supported the black man who clearly was the best candidate for the job, but not her white liberal choice, and therefore had to be punished and dissected or whatever she thought she had to do, from that point on. That made me sick, still does, and I think about it even now when I see and hear her narcissistically chattering away.
Congratulations Chips, and the entire TOD Community. Twelve million is awesome. Let’s do 12 million more before November 6.
In 2007, I watched Senator Ted Kennedy (May His Soul Rest), on the stage with then Senator Barack Obama, announce to all the world that he supported Senator Obama to be the Democratic Candidate for the President in 2008. I am 65 years old. I was in high school when our loved JFK was taken. I sat-in with MLK, Jr., and I cried when he was taken. On that day in 2007 at American University in DC, there was significant controversy brewing about Senator Kennedy’s choice to support then Senator Obama. When this rally convened former President Bill Clinton was lobbying for Senator Kennedy to support Hilary.
I stood on line for 4 hours, and I was about 1 mile from the front door. The weather was cold and raw, but the sun shone through the clouds. There were so many people on line that day, young people, children, disabled people, and people of all different races. I live in DC, and I recall wondering , where did so many people come from? The lines were so long. I had never seen such long lines in the city. This rally was my first time experiencing the intangible spirit I have noted that mostly surrounds our President and all of us who support him. There is an attitude of helpfulness, and joy among the individuals I see and talk to at these events. We supporters seem to share the belief that we are one united group helping to change our tomorrow. That attitude and spirit has always been an important part of The Obama Diary Community. In the TOD community, we are not divided by “white liberals, LGBT leaders, black leaders, democrats, independents, etc..” In fact, we are one in support of President Obama, the President’s agenda, re-election, and moving FORWARD! Let’s not get side-tracked. We have much too much work ahead to let small stuff get us divided.
We thank Chipsticks for creating this place for us, and giving us this united spirit. We need each other if we intend to WIN in 2012!!!
Thank you for those insightful comments. I hope I wasn’t coming across as divisive, because I was only speaking out on my own strong “white liberal” support for PBO, and I agree with everything you said about all O’supporters and TOD! And with what UT was saying! United we stand (divided, we’d be Republicans!).
No longer watch her. Or Ed for that matter especially afterv2010 elections.
Brilliant! UT, you are the best.
If I had your address I’d send you a gallon of Jack Daniels!
This. All this.
JOVIE: Yes, I voted in Miami-Dade Primary election. I am off on Fridays until labor day. I am really enjoying it. Its great to work only 4 days.
Very good article by Charles Pearce — some blind spots, but still much more insightful than most. I’ve often pondered on what I’ve perceived to be a need by some Americans for PBO to be humbly grateful for what they think they did for him — something they haven’t required of any other President. For the most part, they don’t even know they hold these feelings, and it manifests in crazy ways. I appreciate the author for even broaching the subject.
If America really was post-racial, there would have been a howl let out that was loud enough to wake the dead when the very first racial slur was made towards President Obama. Instead, the silence was deafening. The fact that racism was let out of its cave for so long before the first person spoke out on these pundit-boxes is something that can’t be ignored. They emboldened the tea bagger class. I totally agree with you that there are many who don’t even know they hold these racist feelings. There are many people who think they are enlightened, but they were silent when the racism started – and many are still silent now. It’s been a display of cowardice that has been simply breathtaking.
Theo67′ that still blows my mind.
“White Liberals. They feel this sense of ownership over Pres. Obama just because they ticked his name off instead of John McCain. Let’s not forget way too many black “scholars” and “activists” treat him the same way. They are very often products of the same conditioning here in America where PBO has to do twice or thrice the amount of proving himself worthy to hold that esteemed office. Sad as it is.
This was meant in reply to utaustin.
To be fair, they treat every “unpure” politician that way. I don’t remember where I read it, but Barack Obama has always called those types the “bourgeois liberals” ( those who are good at talking and criticizing and protesting but not so good at getting things done using the political process).
I believe many of his critics on the left resent his success, most especially those who were not able to be part of his ‘inner circle.’
Jealousy, ego, and with some, the belief that they are ‘smarter’ than PBO, and he needs to take their advice. ‘How dare he ignore their counsel.’ Sometimes I want to scream, or slap the shit out of them. At other times, It just makes me sad.
I want PBO to get the accolades he deserves. His list of accomplishments is unmatched by ANY other president. Only Lincoln and FDR faced harsher environments, but even FDR did not face the kind of unified obstruction PBO has faced. Lincoln led us through a civil war, and FDR led us through the Great Depression, but in terms of shear volume of accomplishment, and management of the government, it’s PBO, hands down. I know he will be ‘vindicated’ by history, but I want him to have that recognition now, especially from his supporters, many of whom have no idea how much he has truly accomplished in this poisonous environment.
The change he promised, is the change we are experiencing. It has always mystified and frustrated me, that people seem to expect ‘change’ to be something you experience as some concrete, event-driven and easily recognized. There is no logic to that type of thinking. The whole country has changed in ways we have not begun to process. The ascension of PBO is not only changing the country, it is changing the world. We will see and understand it better in retrospect.
Well said, Zekke!
Lincoln brought us through the Civil War, and FDR brought us through the Great Depression. What President Obama will accomplish is arguably better but less noticeable: he’s avoiding a second great depression (precipitated by right-wing financial policies) and defusing a second civil war (by easing us through a potentially explosive demographic transition). He is carefully and masterfully steering us clear of the icebergs, rather than leading the rescue boats after the fact. It’s less movie-star heroic, but infinitely better for ordinary people’s lives! I agree with you… I hope history gives him his due.
I tend to call what I see at present in the US a “Civil Cold War”. Very few (proxy) wars – although there are – I view Trayvon Martin’s death as one; but a lot of showmanship that in the end will lead to more equality-before-the-law for everyone.
Let’s hope (and for you, US citizens: work) to get President Obama a second term to see these “walls” tumbling down !
Yes. Yes. and Yes. I hope that Doris Kearns Goodwin writes his biography.
Bravo, Zekke LyDonna! You expressed so well everything I know, feel, and believe.
I have always felt that the so called PL… share the same thing with the right wing….RACISM
It’s a particular kind of subtle ‘racism’ that is elitist in nature. These are people who feel ‘entitled’, and would also look down their noses at people they considered ‘white trash’ or ‘red neck’. They would be quick to label White southerners as racists. It’s part of that ‘White man’s burden syndrome’. I in no way mean to offend our White Brothers and Sisters. This is directed at a particular group. Their counterparts in the Black community are people like Cornell West who thinks he is the only one who knows ‘the real Black people.
Whenever ‘white liberals’ are accused of racialized language, there is great nashing of teeth and counter-accusations, as well as lots of name-calling. Me thinks they do protest too much.
It’s shut eye time. Say Gunnite folks.
G’nite amk. Sleep tight. Don’t let Knoller bite.
Nite amk! Good work on Twitter today. 🙂
Goodnight, don’t let the wimmin bite? huh?!!!
Now back for a quick Olympics moment: I posted about this yesterday, but I can’t stop thinking about it. This kid is amazing!
———————–
American runner Manteo Mitchell has revealed he ran the last 200m of the Olympic men’s 4x400m relay heats with a broken left leg.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/athletics/19202411
Mitchell began the race for the United States, who went through to Friday’s final as the second fastest team despite Mitchell’s injury.
“As soon as I took the first step past the 200m mark, I felt it break.” Manteo told the USA Track and Field website.
“I didn’t want to let the three guys or the team down, so I just ran on it.”
Mitchell still managed to finish the opening lap in 46.1 seconds as the US team, also featuring Joshua Mance, Tony McQuay and Bryshon Nellum, went on to set a qualifying time of two minutes, 58.87 seconds.
“It hurt so bad,” the 25-year-old added. “I’m pretty amazed that I still split [close to] 45 seconds on a broken leg.”
USA Track and Field chief executive Max Siegel said: “Manteo has become an inspiration and a hero for his team-mates.
“Without his courage and determination to finish, Team USA would not be at the starting line in the final. The team has rallied around him and we are all looking forward to the final days of competition.”
The US men’s team are the defending champions and have won every 4x400m Olympic title that they have contested.
———————–
As I did when Kerri Strug stuck that incredible landing on her injured ankle to win the gold medal for the US gymnastics team in 1996, I believe this now for Mr. Mitchell, if the relay team wins gold, because of his tremendous sacrifice, he should get a national pension that takes care of his basic living expenses for the rest of his life! Regardless of whatever other income he earns or doesn’t earn, we should take care of him. House – check. Car – check. Utilities, food, clothes – check, check, check. And free tickets to any sporting event forever. Period. End of story!!
Forgot one: Health insurance! Super BIG check!!!
Chip – this is a very timely website, just created, that we should be following:
http://90days90reasons.com/opening.html
“This initiative will provide daily reasons—concrete, factual, plain—to re-elect Barack Obama, and will also provide likely outcomes of a Romney presidency. Articulating these reasons will be a wide range of well-known Americans, their ranks proving that there is, indeed, a growing movement that acknowledges not only that Obama needs four more years, but that we actually need to participate to make it happen. Romney’s poll numbers are neck and neck with Obama’s, and the Republican party has raised and will continue to raise more money than Obama will or can. The only chance Obama has to win is if we can harness the same populist enthusiasm we did when we made history in 2008.
It’s okay to believe again. It’s time to believe again. We must believe again.”
Nice. Thanks Rita!
Thanks Rita – every tool helps!

Thanks for fixing the link TrumpDog. Looks like the page the linked to above was scratched…
By the way the Mens 4 x 400 relay final is coming up today at 4:20pm. You can watch it live here:

Hopefully they’ll have sufficient bandwidth. When I tried to watch the Men’s 100m, the video kept stalling.
Since Chips basically posted this article by Pierce in response to my bringing it up on the last thread, I want to make a few observations of my own.The first is that I really, really like Pierce’s writings, even when I disagree with him.
Like most writers talking about the American scene, he does generalize things a lot, and he does in this article as well. But I would be very confident in saying that he knows that there isn’t a 100% category for anybody in this country and that a lot of people who voted for PBO don’t think he should feel grateful and are instead, like I am, grateful that he is our President.
This posting by him is more to those people who scream because he hasn’t done enough, or who keep saying he hasn’t changed things in Washington like he promised. And I do believe that there are a lot of people who do feel exactly like Pierce describes them.
But I also feel that PBO understands this dynamic as well.
And that is why I both agree and disagree when Pierce says that PBO is partially at fault as well by talking about the 2004 convention speech and the 2008 campaign. Yes, both of those things set PBO up for a lot of the thinking, but they were also the only way for him to get elected. So I disagree with Pierce that he was being politically naive.
When Pierce talks about what he would like to see PBO do, I think he is talking about post election.
Pierce sometimes comes across as a purist, but I really don’t perceive him as such. He is someone who wishes the world could be different and will espouse that way of thinking, but he is also at the core a pragmatist. But sometimes he expresses a sense that being a pragmatist only gets one so far and the next step needs to be taken.
And sometimes I agree with him. But I think that PBO has always been looking toward a second term when he can take those extra steps without the need to overly concern himself about being re-elected.
Don’t know if this makes any sense as it is just off the top of my head thinking.
Japa, you expressed my exact feelings. Thank you.
Japa…
i am always amazed at the number of people who feel that they KNOW what or who is the President and judge him on that vibe…
Exactly, “the rest of us” – as I said yesterday on Twitter:
Thank you chipsticks for that both heart-wrenching and brilliant piece by Charles Piers, the Poet Laureate of Politics. I read it aloud just now to my husband and sent links to my children. What did it do for me? I now feel free to say out loud what I’ve always felt, ,reading and listening to the socialist blather filling up our airwaves — Shut the !@#$ up you cretins, you all belong in a zoo.
I won’t live to see this but I glory in thinking of it — according to the studies of our country’s population statics, in another generation there will be NO white majority in the US and we’ll be having a permanent and beautiful congress and administration made up of at least 80% people of color.
And our own brilliant and beautiful First Family will have been the advance wave.
Hah –statistics! This is where emotion screws up spelling!
‘An obligation to be grateful’!? I like the article until the author starts saying what PBO should do. President Obama knows far better than anyone what he ‘should’ do and that is be himself and we should all trust his judgement. He is by far the most caring, able, empathetic and intelligent President in my lifetime if not ever. Far from PBO being grateful, in my humble opinion it is the rest of the world who should be grateful for Barack Obama taking on the job of President and carrying it out in such a uniquely brilliant way, especially with all the hate and obstruction that have been in his way since day one.
This has been the most incredible time and most amazing presidency, we all need him in for another 4 years. (At least!!!!!!!)
THIS! THIS! THIS!
Couldn’t agree more, Sam. I’m grateful everyday for this wonderful president and wish I could thank him for all he endures on our behalf.
Love this line from Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith when responding to claims that the willard campaign was taking the high ground:
“When the Romney campaign finally reaches the high ground, we look forward to greeting them there.”
She’s sooo good, and quick too!
That has to be the best comeback of the year so far.
Ouch! Ah, words. Simple words. The nectar of the …(I don’t know) but me likey…a whole lot! 😆 😆 That’s the kind of punch back that gives ME a Tweety-type ‘tingle up the leg’!
Claire, a great great great response from the Obama campaign.
Do the Romney campaign forget all about that ex-New Hampshire Governor who said Obama wasn’t American. Have he forgotten about the lying ads his campaign continues to run even though it’s been proven to be a lie, have they forgotten about Trump and his birther B.S. Now all of a sudden because the truth is kicking his lying butt he wants to say let’s only talk about the issues. The Obama campaign have been talking about the issues.
This is perfect. Liz is great!
Just because
I am assuming, of course, that you are promoting the far superior Haley Mills version.
I was, but in the interests of education, I ordered both versions for her. Some things you gotta learn on your own.
You are truly a wise man.
I liked both versions of The Parent Trap. I think Lindsey Lohan did a very good and convincing job for a 9yr old with the English accent. Lindsey may be a mess but she is a talented actress.
Jon Huntsman Sr., longtime Romney backer, calls on him to release returns http://wapo.st/P9P3bq
Interesting. Today’s 6AM post to Daily Kos was speculating that it was Jon Huntsman Sr (or maybe Jr) that was Harry Reid’s source.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/08/10/1118493/-Gaming-out-Harry-Reid-s-gambit
Markos was a guest on the phone on Stephanie Miller’s show. His theory is that Huntsman Sr despises Romney. And Huntsman Sr. had access to Bains financial records, etc.
Huntsman Sr’s grandbaby feels the same way.
Then we have to keep wondering why is it RomneyHood won’t release his tax returns? We have to help the Obama campaign keep this in the media.
Huntsman Sr. contributed the Harry Reid’s campaign.
Boom.
Watching Tiger on TNT.
Drip…Drip…Drip.
This isn’t dying down.
You know, I have wondered if other Mormons like Huntsman and Reid really have problems with Mitt’s lying. I don’t much about the religion, other than what I have read, but I find it hard to believe most Mormons are ok with Mitt’s lying.
There was an article circulating from the great-great-great grand daughter of Brigham Young, who has since left the Mormon church. She said that they have a saying called “lying for God”, which means you can lie if it furthers the goals of the Mormon church. I know there’s at least one Mormon that visits TOD. Maybe she’ll weigh in? (No pressure, of course)
To add more fuel to the fire: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/11/business/in-the-superrich-clues-to-romneys-tax-returns-common-sense.html?_r=1&pagewanted=1&smid=tw-share
““This summer the Internal Revenue Service released data from the 400 individual income tax returns reporting the highest adjusted gross income. This elite ultrarich group earned on average $202 million in 2009, the latest year available. And buried in the data is the startling disclosure that six of the 400 paid no federal income tax.”
So Harry Reid may not be so far off after all… hmmm…
Two things that I am really sick of:
(1) From the left: The President has disappointed me. What?? Name 5 things or 10 things that the President has disappointed you about (don’t include those things that require Congressional action. Now compare them to the over 200 accomplishments.
(2) From the left and the right: The economy really sucks. It’s just terrible. It’s really bad. Romney should run on the economy because that’s a winning message, because the economy is so bad. Really? Bad compared to what and when? They talk as though there has been no improvement in the economy since President Obama’s policies took effect. Yeah the unemployment rate is 8.3%, but there are over 30 states where the unemployment rate is below 8%. Those states with high unemployment of course will increase the overall average. Are we still losing 750,000 jobs a month? Is the stock market still at 6,000? I know there are far too many people still unemployed or underemployed, but me an effing break. The economy is no where near as terrible as it was 3 1/2 years ago. And why is that the MSM never show the viewers the individual breakout of unemployment by state? That was a rhetorical question. They don’t do it because they could no longer claim that “Obama sucks on the economy”.
Rant finished.
sabreen60, I agree with you.
Good rant, Sabreen. These things frustrate me, too. This economy has been on the mend ever since the President started rolling out the Stimulus plan. I don’t know why anyone would give this economy back to the people who broke it, who are refusing to acknowledge that they broke it, and are planning to bring back the same policies that broke it in the first place – amplified to 1000!
That is exactly what I thought in 2010 when the GOP increased their membership in the House, Senate in Governorships throughout the Country. I thought PBO’s analogy of not giving the keys back to the people that ran the bus into the ditch would be evident to people. NOT ! So I think we need to stay vigilent even when we think it is so obvious.
Sabreen60, thanks for this excellent and righteous rant! I agree with you 100%. On the second point, I get into arguments with people who have such short memories (for some it’s as if they are suffering from amnesia). How can people forget that in september and October of 2008, the country was on the blink of total financial collapse? Prior to that, beginning in 2006, the country was already experiencing massive collapse of the real estate industry and the unprecedented foreclosures. On top of that, a major American industry, the auto industry, was headed for destruction. And, as you said, even before he was sworn in, the country was loosing jobs at the rate of 750,000. Any one who says that nothing has changed in the four years of President Obama is either a liar or suffers from amnesia.
I too join the chorus of commenters who are appalled at Charles Pierce’s remarks after the opening paragraphs that clearly state the nature of the opposition that President Obama has faced.
Pierce steps all over his opening cogency by resorting to the same lazy line of thinking that he accuses Pres. Obama’s detractors of spouting. So if America voted for candidate Obama thinking he was their shortcut ticket to racial atonement, that he would provide them the pixie dust-strewn golden path to erasing centuries of racial discrimination, but later on decided that they did not want him to ACTUALLY wield power, who is supposed to be solving that dysfunctionality in the body politic? Pres. Obama?
In such a toxic environment how can Pierce call anything Pres. Obama actually managed to accomplish “TIMID”? Oh I get it, despite all the gunk that Pierce himself described, “Magical Negro” President Obama is supposed to still rise up as phoenix out of the toxic racial brew that hampers his had in governing and still manage to produce liberal unicorns. Pierce is trapped in the revolutionary hero/Great Leader complex, because in his mind, the power of the other branches of government be damned, President Obama in the executive branch should magically produce liberal legislative ponies.
In effect he too like Pres. Obama’s haters project onto him outlandish expectations while fully ignoring the major accomplishments he HAS actually attained despite the virulent opposition. From a racial angle, it is all too familiar: President Obama can never achieve enough to be compared superlatively to other Presidents who actually achieved fewer accomplishments in circumstances not as horrible as Pres. Obama’s.
Pierce should have immediately turned his attention to Bill Clinton for comparison. Why do liberals pour such adulation on Clinton whose actual record is several degrees more rightwing and destructive of progressive goals, while these same libs heap so much scorn on Pres. Obama? Clinton signed DADT, DOMA, Welfare Reform, Repeal of Glass Steagall, failed to enact healthcare reform. Pres Obama has had to perform triage resulting from the horrible consequences of Clinton’s actions. yet Clinton is hero, and PBO’s been timid?
Besides if Charles Pierce wants to know the very concept of African Americans as “TIMID” is itself vicious racist coding intended historically to emasculate African American men especially, and all AA’s in general. Case in point just last week before Gabby Douglas’s stellar performance, the media commentary harped on whether she would be able to overcome “pressure” of the world stage. No other member member of her gymnastics team was described in those terms.
President Obama has been called all shades of “wimp/timid” even as he “piles up bodies” of dick-waving accomplishments. His manhood is ridiculed. The dissonance unfortunately is very familiar to minorities on a less grand stage throughout this country. The story of the Tuskeggee Airmen is another fine example of AA men who were denied for a long time to demonstrate their valor because racial stereotypes forbade the military from seeing them as “MEN” capable of flying complex machinery in the theater of war.
I’m sorry to break it to Charles Pierce that he is really not much different from Pompously entitled Romney who thinks his racial/wealth privilege gives him the right to erase President Obama’s accomplishments as Commander in Chief with one flippant remark “anyone could have ordered the OBL mission, even Jimmy Carter”.
But fortunately Pres. Obama does not suffer fools gladly whether they are of the wingnut or liberal variety. He marches to his own killer drumbeat. We his supporters marvel, then work our tails off to get him re-elected.
Zizi – every paragraph of your comment pierced my heart, because it’s all so sadly true. So many examples of unrecognized greatness, and double standards. I do appreciate Charlie Pierce starting the conversation – but he misses the point that the bad behavior from the right and left is not reflective of President Obama. He’s done the right thing at every point, and had to use HIS presidency to clean up the messes of prior Presidents – who are now being praised. (I even heard one woman “expert” on NPR this morning saying that President Obama will be able to learn from Bill Clinton at the convention…)
Those who have exhibited bad behavior, or have been too cowardly to acknowledge racism and unfairness related to this particular presidency, need to own their bad behavior. They can’t hold a candle to President Obama.
Amen! As always you went to the heart of the matter: the total failure to give credit to President Obama for all his accomplishments. Accomplishments that include steadily rescuing the economy which was on the blink of total collapse. I am amused when I hear people say that no president has been re-elected with unemployment over 8%. Somehow they leave out the great FDR who was re-elected, not once but three times, with unemployment in double digits. Of course when I mention FDR, they quickly amend their assertions by saying no president since the great Depression. My response to them is that no president, since the great Depression, inherited the kind of economic mess President Obama inherited. Even FDR had 8 years to focus just on the economy. It wasn’t until his third term that he had to deal with war. Compare that to President Obama who from day one had to focus on a collapsing economy and two wars.
thank you, zizi
The Big story in the WSJ, Ahnold was offered Cabinet Job.
I wondered what happened?
OMG!!!!!! Congratulations, Chips! 12 million hits is simply awesome. You are just making a tremendous contribution to the world. Thank you for all you do.
Congratulations on the 12 million mark Chips. Thanks for all your wonderful work. We are all better more informed people because of it.
Congratulations Chips. You have keep me sane by coming here and getting the facts. I don’t know what I would have done without you. Thanks, and keep it up.
Some snark enclosed, but people have been asking for crowd comparisons between the two campaigns and this addresses that.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/10/us/politics/campaign-events-for-president-obama-are-not-drawing-crowds-like-2008.html?_r=1&emc=tnt&tntemail0=y
This is 2012, not 2008.
And how is the crowds RomneyHood is drawing?
Romney is drawing in the hundreds 400 or 500 while Obama is drawing in the thousands but the story notes Obama is not drawing the six figure numbered crowd as in 08.
A Romney spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, provided photos of three packed events: 5,000 at a Memorial Day weekend rally in San Diego, 2,200 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, in March, and 4,200 in Denver in mid-February.
More typical appearances draw 300 to 500 people. An event in Ohio three weeks ago attracted about 400, with about 100 more in an overflow room. Last week in Colorado, Mr. Romney spoke to about 200 people at a school in Basalt. It was a small audience on Wednesday in a Des Moines high school auditorium, limited to Romney volunteers and staff members. And a day earlier outside Chicago, a couple hundred supporters were seated and enthusiastic, but behind them factory workers stood stone-faced.
—-
um…shouldn’t Mitt’s crowds be getting larger, not smaller since the primary ended….and where are the pictures she provided ? Are they a secret ?
Also….does anyone expect the President to have those huge crowds this time ? I sure don’t.
The First Lady is out drawing Mitt RomneyHood.
2012 is a completely different time from 2007 & 2008. If these people would think, they would remember that we had all just suffered seven years of George W. President Obama was a new face that gave us all hope at last. We were SO ready to get rid of that president, no one even lined up at the White House when Marine One landed or took off. Remember those pictures of him begging for people to wave at him?
We have now had 3 1/2 good years with President Obama. We are NOT desperate for change…..except for the tiny minority. He is no longer exotic or unknown. We trust him, and yet, whatever venue they choose fills up, and people line up after tickets are given away for more.
His committee is smart to limit these events. More people can get close to him, and he can interact with more people. I wish they had put the numbers for Myth earlier in the article. They are startlingly low. Not just in comparison, but on their own.
When we have a sitting president running, the entire ethos is different. Last time two candidates were running, no sitting president.
On another topic, I know there is great concern about Ohio and the 2004 votes stolen. However, once again, there was a sitting president running against a candidate who had very little apparatus in force. I never trusted GWB and his people, and I feel sure Kerry didn’t either. However, the Democratic party did not give him the support he needed to battle unfair voting. I’m sure many of you have read that OFA is well aware of this situation, and has trained and dispatched lawyers and other officials to make sure this same thing doesn’t happen in 2012. This is one advantage of being a sitting president, you do control more. Kerry and company were pretty much taken unawares in 2004. That will not happen in 2012.
I didn’t read the article, but I know it’s because he’s president now. It’s too huge a security risk. I was worried about him when he made his election night speech. It would be even worse now.
The moment I read the title and a few paragraphs I stopped wasting my time.
So, the President is going to Iowa next week!
Pop! A new poll showing Robney leading by 2 there.
I see the strategy. Every place the President visits, pop a poll showing Him losing.
This is beguiling, considering the recent National polls -Show the President way ahead.
You follow?
HAHAHA This is just too much!
Romney wants his business record off limits
By Steve Benen
For months, Mitt Romney has said repeatedly that Americans should vote for him because of his business record. In a startling turn of events, he told Chuck Todd he’d like his past to be excluded from the race altogether.
“[O]ur campaign would be helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon business or family or taxes or things of that nature, this is just a diversion,” Romney said. He added, “I would love to have a setting where we only talk about issues.”
…
Regardless, this is quite an unexpected turn. Romney, very quickly, has gone from “Vote for me because of my business background” to “My business background is just a diversion.”
http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2012/08/10/13222162-romney-wants-his-business-record-off-limits?lite
Well guess what Mitt “Romneyhood” Romney in life you don’t always get what you want, but in this case you will get everything you deserve. And your business dealings at Bain. your refusal to release your tax returns, your off shore accounts, will be continue to be discuss.
Honestly, Cman, this is the biggest wimp that has ever run for president. If he wasn’t ready for the rough and tumble of a presidential campaign, he could have retired to one of his homes and quietly rested on his millions. This kind of statement has the maturity of a teenager who tells you he/she would be really popular in high school, IF…the other kids would stop picking on him/her; he was born rich and beautiful, he/she excelled at sports. In other words, life would be great if it wasn’t so darned hard. Is he asking people to vote for him out of pity? In negotiations with other world powers, would he appeal to their sympathy and whine that they were being too hard on him? I hope the president’ team doubles down on the tough ads for the rest of the campaign.
So, Romney’s new ad about “Values” or the one quoting the Pope, or the innuendo that the President is somehow “foreign” and the demands for President Obama’s birth certificate or college transcripts by Romney surrogates… all those are discussing the “issues” that Romney wants to focus on? Romney is a complete loser.
First of all Romneyhoold CAN”T STOP BEING A LIAR….when he stops being a liar about the President’s record, what he says, and what he has done, then MAYBE they can talk about JUST ISSUES.
Besides, The President has been talking about issues, pay attention Romney. Whenevery someone points out what you said or did, you say it NEVER HAPPENED! How can you have a meaningful discussion with someone whO LIES OR FORGETS what they’ve said?
Let’s just say the Reuters and all the rest of ‘um have no clue …
Tonight will be like Tripoli, Misurata & Nafusa all at once 🙂
Fareed Zakaria (and his column) has been suspended from TIME Magazine for plagiarizing parts of Lepore’s gun control article from The New Yorker. TIME is investigating claims from other authors and journalists about Zakaria and more incidences of plagiarism.
Geez Fareed what were you thinking. I often enjoy his CNN show; wonder if this is gonna affect it.
http://www.theatlanticwire.com/business/2012/08/fareed-zakarias-take-gun-control-strikingly-similar-new-yorkers/55652/
Soon, the Republicans will try and connect the President with Fareed in an ad.
It’s how they roll.
Counting down a long Friday afternoon by enjoying the responses to the Twitter hashtag #GingrichShowNames (Newt apparently said he and Calista were going to do a show like Regis and Kelly???) Anyhow some of the suggestions (all plays on real shows, obviously):
“Kids Clean the Darndest Things”, “Are you a Better Janitor than a 5th Grader”, “Real Housewives of Leroy Newton”, “How I Met Your Mothers”, “Broken Family Guy”, “Thrice-Married with Children”, and my favorite “Broke Fast at Tiffany’s”.
Wow – it makes me nostalgic for the GOP primaries. Almost.
Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman Jr. and 2002 Olympics
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/07/25/mitt-romney-jon-huntsman-jr-and-the-2002-olympics/
The plot thickens.
That picture of the two of them says a lot. That handshake is the frostiest I think I’ve ever seen…..hardly a handshake! More and more reasons showing for the animosity between the two big Mormons.
This is good from the comments:
“James R.L. wrote :
Romney “saved” the private business, Olympics, by arranging a massive billion dollar government bailout to rescue a disaster from corruption. Romney outsourced the Olympic uniforms, to a country that had a murderous brutal dictator, to make a profit. All the time he was on “retroactive” leave of absence collecting hundreds of thousands in salary with his name still as CEO, president and sole stock holder. This man has killed jobs, stole pensions, bankrupted companies for personal gain, he is now kissing arse with Barklay’s and Goldman-Sachs and all the international bankster’s, in Europe, to ask for more money from shady foreigners. This is the kind of lying, economic monster, we want for president? Kind of makes a brilliant lawyer who has devoted his adult life to public service look good. REAL good.”

Just watched Ed and Rachel is on now. Rachel is talking about the cancer ad and the tax ad by the Obama team. She is saying why the Romney group is complaining about the cancer ad as to pull attention from the tax Son of Boss ad which is very damning.
Ed’s show annoyed me in he had a Teaparty GOP who didn’t want Paul Ryan on that was left to talk and condemn Obama’s administration and policies. Ed also had some Michael something in a group with a woman I didn’t catch her name and an Ari, both the last two were Dems while Michael was a GOP. The GOPer was very tricky as to getting his points in and equating Romney’s lying ad on welfare with Harry Reid’s zero tax proclamation. The other two countered and the woman was quick to catch the false equivalency comparison and the other point. Ed just seemed to let the GOP guys spread their lies. It surprised me. Sometimes I think he doesn’t catch them cuz he is thinking about what he will say next.
Just heard Rachel say Romney wanted his business history off limits when he interviewed with Chuck Todd today. Chris Hayes is blasting it as prepostorus.
