President Obama is serious about his business. He may smile but underneath the smile is an uncanny seriousness. Our man ain’t playing. He is getting things done and will continue to get ‘er done after his re-election. He means business. It is so on.

Good really does overcome evil! I love seeing President Obama and Sandra Fluke together in these photos. The ultimate revenge. She looks fantastic – it goes without saying that President Obama looks fantastic. She’s going places, this young lady…

Theo67, I remember crying like a baby when RL was spewing his ugly words against Sandra and our president. But I knew a day would come when all of that ugly hatred in that space at the time would calm to a beautiful moment in our time, and look what we were able to see and hear today. Mighty tremendous and powerful way of “overcoming evil.”

I thought, how lovely Sandra Fluke and POB looked standing there on that stage today. What peace and joy our president makes out of lemons. There is a Higher power within our space because we try our best to do what is good to and for others while we are in this space. Great day today.

She is the future who will speak for her generation and our nation. What a joyful thanksgiving to shout out. I will have a little more “medical red wine” tonight for my heart. I really do not like red wine, but that is my doctor’s permission. A few more ounces for our president and Ms. Fluke tonight will not hurt.HZ

One of the narratives going into the homestretch of this political campaign season is to assess how much will Democrats embrace or try to separate from President Obama’s signature domestic policy achievement of his time in office, the 2010 Affordable Care Act.

Tampa area Congresswoman Kathy Castor has been a huge proponent of the legislation since day one (who can forget that chaotic town hall meeting regarding health care that took place almost three years ago to the day that she was involved with?), and at a news conference at the Obama For America offices in Ybor City on Wednesday, showed that she wasn’t backing down at all in her advocacy for the controversial bill, especially in how it helps women, a key narrative that Democrats have been pushing for months.

Rep Marcie Kaptur of Ohio gave an excellent defense of ACA during her debates in 2010 in the face of an obnoxious, loudmouth teabagger. She won handily. Most of the other Democrats were cowed by their opponents of a likewise nature. A goodly lot of them lost.

    • August 8, 2012 at 7:18 pm

She sure looked fired up, loved that 🙂
Also, great to see the atmosphere at such events.

So here is a question from a non American now, just because I am curious. All the grass roots support, the volunteers, the donations run by people like the ones on here … Romney doesn´t do that?

      • 66 cookemom
        August 8, 2012 at 7:28 pm

Not by comprison. Romney’s financial support comes mainly from few very rich donors. His small donor numbers are near non-existent. I don’t know how many campaign offices he has open nationally, or in the swing states. I know it doesn’t come close to the OFA feet on the street effort. That’s the one reason it’ll be who’s the better organizer that may be the deciding factor. Money and corporations are legally people, but they haven’t figured out a way for them to vote.

      • August 8, 2012 at 7:34 pm

Romney doesn’t have a network of supporters that he has built himself like candidate Obama did in 2007/2008. What he is trying to activate is the network of evangelical Christianist groups that Rove whipped up in 2000 & 2004 to turn out the votes for George Bush. That is the reason why Romney has swung so much to the hard ideological right, so that they will trust him enough to volunteer for him.

Those groups are very organized through coded and sometimes overt pulpit activism in the churches around their hatred for liberalism, minorities, and the zeal to turn America into a theocracy. There are also the Tea Party corporate funded groups who have their hate-fest networks who are being activated. So they are a potent force and we will have big competition this time around about who can most energize their voters to the polls

      • August 8, 2012 at 7:40 pm

No he doesn’t. But here is a synopsis of Romney’s “grassroots” operation:

        1. Soliciting and receiving million-dollar checks from CEOS during closed door meetings

        2. Media-propagated disinformation and misinformation (e.g., dishonest punditry, false equivalences, Republican-love Sundays, Obama’s doomed narratives, nonstop polling with skewed crosstabs, etc)

        3. Manipulation of Internet news sites, (e.g., paid RW trolls in comments sections), mucking up of Internet search engines and social media sites (e.g,. buying hashtags on Twitter, etc)

        4. Mailing out or emailing hateful and fear-inducing propaganda (usually with racist, misogynistic and/or xenophobic overtones and undertones).

      • 70 veryslowwriter
        August 9, 2012 at 1:10 am

Romney does not have ANY enthusastic followers — except the Koch brothers. I am old enough to remember every election since Dwight D Eisenhower’s FIRST term. (Actually I have a little memory of Truman in 1948. We always knew he would win.)

I have never seen a candidate draw the large and passionate crowds that come out for President Obama. (Kennedy, Mondale, McCarthy all had excited supporters but nothing like PBO’s.)

None of Romney’s supporters actually *like* him. He hires people to run his campaign offices and has very few volunteers. His support comes primarily from rich people and people who are stupid enough to be racists.

I do not believe that a candidate who draws crowds like those in the above pictures can lose. PBO’s existence is polarizing. Very few Americans are neutral. (The “undecideds” in polling are lying or idiots.) People love him or not. Look at the pictures of his speaking engagements over the past few months. Then look at Romney’s. (Go ahead, I’ll wait.)

The differences are stunning. Almost unbelievable. I don’t need to get out my trusty crystal ball to predict that PBO will win re-election by the largest majority since FDR in 1936. (The Electoral College tally in that election was an almost comic 538-8.)

Sincere question—–not that we have any decision making powers—–but what do y’all think about the length of recent Obama speeches? I know he was getting criticism for lengthy speeches, people were passing out on those beastly hot days during the bus tour etc.—-and now the speeches, while powerful, seem to be half as long. I was just wondering if the people who often have to go to much planning and a huge rigamarole to get there and sometimes have to stand in line and wait hours are satisfied with the amount of time spent. Too short, or just right, like in Goldilocks?

We TODers have seen him a zillion times. On live links here, or on youtube. But in person, it’s a whole different thing. He’s ELECTRIC when he enters the room. There is an audible buzz and then people start screaming, applauding, etc.

I actually like the length of his recent speeches. They pack a punch and people remember the “one-liners” Plus, he’s got WORK to do. He’s got a country to run. Unlike Myth R-money, who can leisurely just hang around and count his r-money.

Will he pay for it himself? Because over half the country doesn’t want their tax dollars used to plunge the country back into recession, reverse the gains in clean, green technologies and education, re-allow hate crimes, eliminate funding for first responders health coverage, roll back women’s ability to sue for equal pay, eliminate Indian rights and health & legal support, ensure that health insurance companies are actually covering us with the money we pay them, etc.

Sorry if this was posted already…trying to catch up:)

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/08/economists-to-romney-campaign-thats-not-what-our-research-says/

So the Romney campaign has a paper that doesn’t accurately reflect the conclusions of the economists they cite, and a policy platform that doesn’t reflect the recommendations that follow from the analyses they use. If this is the best they can do in support of their economic plan, well, it’s not likely to quiet the critics.

    Snip/

So, that’s three economists named in the Romney paper, not one of whom would sign on to the interpretation the Romney paper gave to their work.

There are interesting criticisms of the Obama campaign buried in the work of the economists the Romney campaign cited — the problem is that the Romney campaign doesn’t have the standing to make them.

Crash and burn, baby. Crash and burn!

“…we released a report, “An America Built to Last: President Obama’s Agenda and the Hispanic Community,” that takes a close look at the President’s agenda and how the Administration’s policies have made a difference for Hispanics and all Americans as we work to move our country forward out of the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression.

The need for this report is simple. Latinos will account for 60 percent of the nation’s population growth in the coming decades, and in turn will be an increasingly larger share of our nation’s workforce. If our nation is going to be successful, we need a strong and well prepared workforce, so the success of our nation is tied directly to the success of the Hispanic community. That’s something President Obama understands, and why he has made it a priority that his Administration is not only reflective of America’s great diversity, but that we’re being open and responsive to the needs of all Americans.

So this report looks at what the policies and programs of this Administration have meant for Hispanic Americans throughout the last three and a half years. The report highlights…” [read the article]

Anti-gay bigots don’t seem to understand that it’s the secrecy that causes so many problems with closeted gays. If everyone in the troop knows a leader is gay and accepts him for what he is, then everyone (scouts, leaders) knows what the standard of conduct is for everyone.

Might as well post it on the thread even it is a repeat, cuz you sure won’t see it on the “news”.
