Good really does overcome evil! I love seeing President Obama and Sandra Fluke together in these photos. The ultimate revenge. She looks fantastic – it goes without saying that President Obama looks fantastic. She’s going places, this young lady…
Theo67, I remember crying like a baby when RL was spewing his ugly words against Sandra and our president. But I knew a day would come when all of that ugly hatred in that space at the time would calm to a beautiful moment in our time, and look what we were able to see and hear today. Mighty tremendous and powerful way of “overcoming evil.”
I thought, how lovely Sandra Fluke and POB looked standing there on that stage today. What peace and joy our president makes out of lemons. There is a Higher power within our space because we try our best to do what is good to and for others while we are in this space. Great day today.
She is the future who will speak for her generation and our nation. What a joyful thanksgiving to shout out. I will have a little more “medical red wine” tonight for my heart. I really do not like red wine, but that is my doctor’s permission. A few more ounces for our president and Ms. Fluke tonight will not hurt.HZ
Theo67, “medicinal purposes” the contents of our glasses will be. Some medicines are wonderful for times like these. I am enjoying mine at this very moment. Thanks for joining me, my dear friend.HZ
I wonder if Sandra will go into politics. Sure hope so! She is passionate and is an excellent speaker. She also has a law background. Bet she will do some sort of job to practice law first so she can add that experience to her resume.
Over on the last thread chatting away. Congrats on 1st Bob and howdy doody again to the rest of yous. I think I look forward to the end of the speech, just to see the new SS guys (at least I’m just noticing them today).
I made 60 phone calls this evening from a list of ppl in my neighborhood. Of those 60, I spoke to 13. All but one is enthusiastic about supporting PBO for re-election.
Thanks, symmetry11. I’m on for tomorrow. This has been a great two weeks off and on. We are almost there.

OMG – there is such a story of diversity in those pictures…young/old, white/black/hispanic, veterans, punk kids, on and on. And I LOVE the pictures with Sandra. What a great day!
One of the narratives going into the homestretch of this political campaign season is to assess how much will Democrats embrace or try to separate from President Obama’s signature domestic policy achievement of his time in office, the 2010 Affordable Care Act.
Tampa area Congresswoman Kathy Castor has been a huge proponent of the legislation since day one (who can forget that chaotic town hall meeting regarding health care that took place almost three years ago to the day that she was involved with?), and at a news conference at the Obama For America offices in Ybor City on Wednesday, showed that she wasn’t backing down at all in her advocacy for the controversial bill, especially in how it helps women, a key narrative that Democrats have been pushing for months.
Rep Marcie Kaptur of Ohio gave an excellent defense of ACA during her debates in 2010 in the face of an obnoxious, loudmouth teabagger. She won handily. Most of the other Democrats were cowed by their opponents of a likewise nature. A goodly lot of them lost.
Awwwww—-that little girl was so excited to meet President Obama. Did you see how her little fingers grasped his finger, holding on, like he was some sort of lifeline, which he is. I have never seen this kind of reaction with any other president——ever—–and I’ve been around for a few. Beautiful photos of Sandra Fluke also, who did a superb job with her Obama introduction. She has a bright future!
So are these new SS guys? One’s old enough to be my age, one’s young enough to be my son, one could be my grandson. I’ll take one of each please….mother hen, cougar syndrome….cluck, cluck, meeeeeooooow.
Wow, this looks awesome. 😀 Also, great to see Sandra Fluke there, that stuff she had to go through made me so mad 😦
I missed the live streaming, are there any videos available of this?
Tweety is just giddy talking about Romney spokewoman saying everyone should have Massachussetts style healthcare. Basically twisting Mitful into knots on the healthcare reform debate. Heh, heh, heh!
That was a very powerful speech by the President. The introduction by Sandra Fluke was equally powerful. I think Sandra Fluke has a bright future, both in law and politics, because she is so articulate and charismatic.
She sure looked fired up, loved that 🙂
Also, great to see the atmosphere at such events.
So here is a question from a non American now, just because I am curious. All the grass roots support, the volunteers, the donations run by people like the ones on here … Romney doesn´t do that?
Not by comprison. Romney’s financial support comes mainly from few very rich donors. His small donor numbers are near non-existent. I don’t know how many campaign offices he has open nationally, or in the swing states. I know it doesn’t come close to the OFA feet on the street effort. That’s the one reason it’ll be who’s the better organizer that may be the deciding factor. Money and corporations are legally people, but they haven’t figured out a way for them to vote.
Romney doesn’t have a network of supporters that he has built himself like candidate Obama did in 2007/2008. What he is trying to activate is the network of evangelical Christianist groups that Rove whipped up in 2000 & 2004 to turn out the votes for George Bush. That is the reason why Romney has swung so much to the hard ideological right, so that they will trust him enough to volunteer for him.
Those groups are very organized through coded and sometimes overt pulpit activism in the churches around their hatred for liberalism, minorities, and the zeal to turn America into a theocracy. There are also the Tea Party corporate funded groups who have their hate-fest networks who are being activated. So they are a potent force and we will have big competition this time around about who can most energize their voters to the polls

Romney does not have ANY enthusastic followers — except the Koch brothers. I am old enough to remember every election since Dwight D Eisenhower’s FIRST term. (Actually I have a little memory of Truman in 1948. We always knew he would win.)

None of Romney’s supporters actually *like* him. He hires people to run his campaign offices and has very few volunteers. His support comes primarily from rich people and people who are stupid enough to be racists.
I do not believe that a candidate who draws crowds like those in the above pictures can lose. PBO’s existence is polarizing. Very few Americans are neutral. (The “undecideds” in polling are lying or idiots.) People love him or not. Look at the pictures of his speaking engagements over the past few months. Then look at Romney’s. (Go ahead, I’ll wait.)
The differences are stunning. Almost unbelievable. I don’t need to get out my trusty crystal ball to predict that PBO will win re-election by the largest majority since FDR in 1936. (The Electoral College tally in that election was an almost comic 538-8.)
Great info Berny!
Except now I’m depressed knowing how little money so many Dem challengers have to work with against Teapublican incumbents. We need some serious moolah to make this thing work.
True. Looking under the cushions for so change for my congressional challenger. What is more depressing for me is looking thru the list of contributors to my rethug congresscritter; several well-heeled, deep-pocketed dems are maxing out to him. I’m talking folks of give heavily to social justice and civil rights causes. Sad…
Love SOS Clinton. She ran HARD for the nomination but when she didn’t get it, she got behind the nominee. There was so much bullshit about how she and PBO hated each othher, blah blah blah. She’s a perfect example of how someone can put the country ahead of personal interests/grievances. And she’s been a sensational SOS. I want her tio live forever.
I think he is trying to spare people from waiting so long, in the heat. I know, for sure, that if I were among those waiting to hear him I would definitely welcome the President’s punctuality. One of the most stressful thing about campaigns is waiting a long time to hear the candidate; especially on hot days with large crowds.

Photo shows a man cradling his sleeping 19 yr old dog “Shep” in the warm waters of Lake Superior. The man has had Shep since he was an 8 month-old pup. The dog is arthritic and the warm lake water soothes his joints, so this has now become their nightly routine.
Sincere question—–not that we have any decision making powers—–but what do y’all think about the length of recent Obama speeches? I know he was getting criticism for lengthy speeches, people were passing out on those beastly hot days during the bus tour etc.—-and now the speeches, while powerful, seem to be half as long. I was just wondering if the people who often have to go to much planning and a huge rigamarole to get there and sometimes have to stand in line and wait hours are satisfied with the amount of time spent. Too short, or just right, like in Goldilocks?
We TODers have seen him a zillion times. On live links here, or on youtube. But in person, it’s a whole different thing. He’s ELECTRIC when he enters the room. There is an audible buzz and then people start screaming, applauding, etc.
I actually like the length of his recent speeches. They pack a punch and people remember the “one-liners” Plus, he’s got WORK to do. He’s got a country to run. Unlike Myth R-money, who can leisurely just hang around and count his r-money.
See? This guy has me convinced the “Smash Therapy” thing is a good idea. Going back to the previous thread to watch the video a couple of times [http://theobamadiary.com/2012/08/08/coming-up-44/#comment-446930]
Good evening, TOD. Was the President fired up OR WHAT! And has anybody figured out which year Sandra Fluke will be old enough to be POTUS? I think the countdown’s on. What a beautiful pitch she gave today, straight from the heart. Makes a “women’s liberation movement era” baby boomer – like me – proud. She’s got brains and grace. Way to go, Sandra!
Watching Ed Schultz and he’s on fire about Team Obama’s new ad “Understand w/Joe Soptic” and Randi Rhodes was talking about it on the air today. THIS IS A POWERFUL AD folks.
It’s pretty one sided! It starts in the morning with he who I shall not name, and all through the Day and Night, People all over this blog gives us reports, on the blatant biased media.
It’s amazing that the Media effects so many, and yet it sure does. But, you are correct, Anderson Cooper seems like a Tea Bagger, albeit, would get tar and feathered, if they knew he was Gay.
Sadly!
Will he pay for it himself? Because over half the country doesn’t want their tax dollars used to plunge the country back into recession, reverse the gains in clean, green technologies and education, re-allow hate crimes, eliminate funding for first responders health coverage, roll back women’s ability to sue for equal pay, eliminate Indian rights and health & legal support, ensure that health insurance companies are actually covering us with the money we pay them, etc.
So the Romney campaign has a paper that doesn’t accurately reflect the conclusions of the economists they cite, and a policy platform that doesn’t reflect the recommendations that follow from the analyses they use. If this is the best they can do in support of their economic plan, well, it’s not likely to quiet the critics.
Snip/
So, that’s three economists named in the Romney paper, not one of whom would sign on to the interpretation the Romney paper gave to their work.
There are interesting criticisms of the Obama campaign buried in the work of the economists the Romney campaign cited — the problem is that the Romney campaign doesn’t have the standing to make them.
Herman Caine, Allen West and Atur Davis, and Ron Christie. They’re gonna have a secret handshake and everything. Will they even have enough to fill a high school gym? I wonder?
And Michael Steele is gonna vote for PBO. He just won’t say it out loud, cuz it’ll mess up his hustle. Dude really must have a bunch of stock in disinfectant.
Seriously. John Unger in WI. Takes his 19 year old dog Schoep, who has arthritis and has trouble sleeping, into the warm waters of Lake Superior – allows him to float and ease his joints. Schoep falls asleep almost immediately.
Much better, thanks for asking. We went to the orthopedist today. He agreed that it was an infection — cellulitis — and not gout. So, she’ll finish the antibiotics and keep taking the pain meds. She goes back to work tomorrow.
She’s doing much better. It was breaking my heart having to see her walk around with a cane. We’ll both be so glad when she has the weight loss surgery and starts dropping kilos.
Glad you got the medicine and the diagnosis. My husband came through fine the two times he had that. He also retraced his steps to think of what he had done to encourage this to happen. Actually, walking every day is a good way to keep it from happening again. Sitting for long periods of time and wearing tight socks and shoes helped make the atmosphere for the infection to take hold. Hope you both can keep it away. One thing,if it happens again, you’ll know it, and you’ll get to the doctor immediately.
Well, she’s had cellulitis before, so we know what it looks like. This looked nothing like it. No fever, no redness, nothing. Quite odd. Getting the weight off with surgery will alleviate almost all her health issues.
From the WH Blog: New Report Highlights the Impact of the President’s Agenda on the Hispanic Community http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/08/08/new-report-highlights-impact-president-s-agenda-hispanic-community

Cecilia Muñoz
Director of the Domestic Policy Council
“…we released a report, “An America Built to Last: President Obama’s Agenda and the Hispanic Community,” that takes a close look at the President’s agenda and how the Administration’s policies have made a difference for Hispanics and all Americans as we work to move our country forward out of the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression.
The need for this report is simple. Latinos will account for 60 percent of the nation’s population growth in the coming decades, and in turn will be an increasingly larger share of our nation’s workforce. If our nation is going to be successful, we need a strong and well prepared workforce, so the success of our nation is tied directly to the success of the Hispanic community. That’s something President Obama understands, and why he has made it a priority that his Administration is not only reflective of America’s great diversity, but that we’re being open and responsive to the needs of all Americans.
So this report looks at what the policies and programs of this Administration have meant for Hispanic Americans throughout the last three and a half years. The report highlights…” [read the article]
President Obama and R-money have at least one thing in common; they are both against the exclusion of gays as Boy Scout leaders.
Good for both of them.
Anti-gay bigots don’t seem to understand that it’s the secrecy that causes so many problems with closeted gays. If everyone in the troop knows a leader is gay and accepts him for what he is, then everyone (scouts, leaders) knows what the standard of conduct is for everyone.

No he doesn’t. But here is a synopsis of Romney’s “grassroots” operation:
1. Soliciting and receiving million-dollar checks from CEOS during closed door meetings
2. Media-propagated disinformation and misinformation (e.g., dishonest punditry, false equivalences, Republican-love Sundays, Obama’s doomed narratives, nonstop polling with skewed crosstabs, etc)
3. Manipulation of Internet news sites, (e.g., paid RW trolls in comments sections), mucking up of Internet search engines and social media sites (e.g,. buying hashtags on Twitter, etc)
4. Mailing out or emailing hateful and fear-inducing propaganda (usually with racist, misogynistic and/or xenophobic overtones and undertones).
Romney does not have ANY enthusastic followers — except the Koch brothers. I am old enough to remember every election since Dwight D Eisenhower’s FIRST term. (Actually I have a little memory of Truman in 1948. We always knew he would win.)

Except now I’m depressed knowing how little money so many Dem challengers have to work with against Teapublican incumbents. We need some serious moolah to make this thing work.
You speak Truth, Dudette! Time for us to dig deep.
True. Looking under the cushions for so change for my congressional challenger. What is more depressing for me is looking thru the list of contributors to my rethug congresscritter; several well-heeled, deep-pocketed dems are maxing out to him. I’m talking folks of give heavily to social justice and civil rights causes. Sad…
PBO is so facile with all the issues. His speeches in Denver and Grand Junction were substantively different. We’re so blessed.
Have POTUS already spoke in Grand Junction? I thought it was suppose to be 7:25?
Did I miss this speech? 😦
Maybe tomorrow will be better. Have did any of you see Rev. Al were he showed the SOS Hillary Clinton getting down, dancing her butt off.
Here ya go. Go to :30. I’m howling!! 😀

OMG! I love it. And as a dancer myself, I really love. That girl can dance!
Sorry guys. He was over an hour early. You missed it. It was excellent. The crowd and the President were fired up.
Gotta be quick to keep up with our guy. He was an hour early.
Been doing that a lot lately. I wonder what’s up with that?
I think he is trying to spare people from waiting so long, in the heat. I know, for sure, that if I were among those waiting to hear him I would definitely welcome the President’s punctuality. One of the most stressful thing about campaigns is waiting a long time to hear the candidate; especially on hot days with large crowds.
Makes perfect sense. Thanks nath.

I am in love with this man and his dog:
Aw…that’s just so precious.
no fb at work. can’t see. please describe. 😦
Photo shows a man cradling his sleeping 19 yr old dog “Shep” in the warm waters of Lake Superior. The man has had Shep since he was an 8 month-old pup. The dog is arthritic and the warm lake water soothes his joints, so this has now become their nightly routine.
Beautiful and loving. Warms my heart. Thanks for sharing this, Tally.HZ
Awwww. Sounds beautiful.
Yes, I love that.

Such a great, heartwarming photo. Love it!
Dotster, JUST RIGHT!!
I think you’re probably right—-just something I’d been thinking about. Thanks for answering.
Sandra Fluke is a star!
Don’t know if this was already posted by NYT article (interview I think?) with PBO http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/08/us/politics/obama-is-an-avid-reader-and-critic-of-news-media-coverage.html

See? This guy has me convinced the “Smash Therapy” thing is a good idea. Going back to the previous thread to watch the video a couple of times [http://theobamadiary.com/2012/08/08/coming-up-44/#comment-446930]
Hey Brian Fischer: START WITH DICK AND LIZ CHENEY’S GRANDCHILDREN AND SEE IF YOU DON’T GET BUCK SHOT IN YOUR FACE.
High Five! [thwap!]
Look at the Prez in the middle of ALL THEM WIMMIN. Sigh. 🙂
🙂
Watching Ed Schultz and he’s on fire about Team Obama’s new ad “Understand w/Joe Soptic” and Randi Rhodes was talking about it on the air today. THIS IS A POWERFUL AD folks.
Looks great running up those steps. He’s always so high energy. Sandra Fluke is a real hero. I love her.
Walking_on_Sunshine, Looks pretty good for an old guy, 51 years old.
Bravo, Tally! These media people are shameless in their biases against President Obama.
IOWA PAY ATTENTION!! http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/08/08/661291/beyond-obamacare-rep-steve-king-wants-to-repeal-everything-bill-obama-has-ever-signed/
Sadly!
Lol! That was meant for tallies post above!
Why? Because you gotta smile and it’s my, um, calling! Think of it as a Campaign Coping Mechanism 😀
Since I am a man of a certain Gen-X age, I often myself saying this to the spouse. She doesn’t like it.
Sighs, “find” myself saying this.
You’re a special person, LL — much like myself. 😉
Sometimes others can’t handle it; all they can do is just love us anyway.
Sorry if this was posted already…trying to catch up:)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/08/economists-to-romney-campaign-thats-not-what-our-research-says/
Crash and burn, baby. Crash and burn!
It’s like he just watches what The President or OFA does and then does the same damn thing. PATHETIC!!

I think it’s just his wife…they should change it to “Woman for Romney”
Everything he does turns to cow dung; except Romneycare — now that really was inspired. More of that for everyone, please Mitt! 🙂
Next it will be “Blacks for Romney”.

Did I hear right that founder/CEO of Komen is stepping down?
I heard the same.
Yes,
Isn’t she the one that defunded PP?
Yes.
Karma.
She’ll now be chair of the Komen Board Executive Committee.
I heard from a guy, who would know, that he absolutely did. AND… he punched a baby!
He punched a baby?? I should tweet that. In the form of a question of course 😉
It’s been reported… some would say… and you know, there are many who believe…
Neil Armstrong is in the Hospital-
Seriously. John Unger in WI. Takes his 19 year old dog Schoep, who has arthritis and has trouble sleeping, into the warm waters of Lake Superior – allows him to float and ease his joints. Schoep falls asleep almost immediately.
Anyone know this awesome human being???

Ok, that made me choke up a little bit. And I was never a dog person until Stewie plopped into our lives.
How is wifey doing, LL ?
Much better, thanks for asking. We went to the orthopedist today. He agreed that it was an infection — cellulitis — and not gout. So, she’ll finish the antibiotics and keep taking the pain meds. She goes back to work tomorrow.
Here is to her getting well soon.
Good to hear that, LL. Wishing her a speedy recovery!
She’s doing much better. It was breaking my heart having to see her walk around with a cane. We’ll both be so glad when she has the weight loss surgery and starts dropping kilos.
🙂
Hope she’s on the mend and feeling better real soon:)
Hugs to you both.
Melted. What a sweet guy.
From the WH Blog: New Report Highlights the Impact of the President’s Agenda on the Hispanic Community
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/08/08/new-report-highlights-impact-president-s-agenda-hispanic-community
——————————-
Cecilia Muñoz
Did someone post this on an earlier thread?
Might as well post it on the thread even it is a repeat, cuz you sure won’t see it on the “news”.
New post everyone:
