Just to make one thing clear, though: the only fundraiser this little blog supports and endorses – and will ever support and endorse from now on – is Obama/Biden 2012, absolutely no other, personal or otherwise. I’ll reply to you all asap, but I just wanted to make that 100% clear.

Just a reminder: There was GINORMOUS BLOWBACK when Meg Whitman tried to buy the governorship of Cali. She failed BIG.

Mittiot Romneyhood is even richer, more annoying, and destructive.

Having said that, it doesn’t mean this country isn’t full of stupid people.

    • August 7, 2012 at 10:02 pm

I second that. Whitman not quite as obtuse as Romney – who is the king of smarmy entitlement and condescension – but she is a piece of work and voters saw through her vast wealth and attempts to steamroll the election. Wish the rest of the country had the same attitude but alas, not so. Racism is the confounding factor.

Jerry Brown did not spend nearly as much money, but he had 2 extremely affective ads, one using megs own words saying how great business was when Jerry Brown was governor of California. We were sick to death of all those Meg ads. By the time the election rolled around, we hated her, and were disgusted by her attempt to buy our governorship.

        • August 7, 2012 at 11:46 pm

I don’t know if it was her inept campaign media person or just her assumption that we wanted to see her ads every 8 minutes but OMG, I just couldn’t stand the sight of her long before the vote. It was complete torture.

          1. Go here: http://www.nbcnews.com/
          2. Click on the tiny “msnbc” in the top row, upper right corner (beside where it says Login)
          3. You’ll land on a page with small pictures of all the MSNBC show hosts. [Note: You can stop here and scroll down the bottom of the page to see the most recently uploaded segnments regardless of show, but if you want a specific show, click on the picture of that show’s host…]
          4. Click on Rachel’s picture and it’ll take you to the page with video segments from her show (and sometimes even web-only videos that didn’t air on TV)

It usually takes a couple of hours after the show airs before they upload the current day’s segments. Right now the “Most Recent” video segments are from yesterday. Wait about another hour or so and today’s segments should be available.

So…. I have a regular tech dude that comes by my office once in a while to check on our AC… we always talk Galaxy… today it morphed into olympics, then ROMNEY. His BIL is a GOPer. I ranted at him for an hour (poor guy), but I told him, “Next time you see him, ask him if he likes Citizens United. If he doesn’t, explain that the next POTUS will appoint a minimum of THREE SCOTUS judges, maybe more. Anyone who hates Citizens United CANNOT ALLOW ROMNEY TO WIN THE PRESIDENCY.”

We have to answer that 25 million by the Kochs. Of course, That is what they want us to do, to stop us from opening so many Offices.
Just the same, that ad buy is to large, not to answer. Expect a 20 million dollar buy, within 1 week, as an addendum to the 77 million already raised.
(still, they are trying to deplete our reserves)

      • 48 Zekke LyDonna

Their ads are racist and full of lies. They have so much money, they’re not worried about quality. Rove and the rest think their old tactics will continue to work. Bullshit. They are losing the battle and getting more and more blatant, cynical, and nasty. Their false ‘confidence’ is buffered by all those millions. That money is totally corrupting them.

It’s the money that will take them down.

    Ok, it’s that time again.

There was a terrible bus accident. Unfortunately, no one survived the accident except a monkey which was on board and there were no witnesses. The police try to investigate further but they get no results. At last, they try to interrogate the monkey. The monkey seems to respond to their questions with gestures. Seeing that, they start asking the questions.

The police chief asks: “What were the people doing on the bus?”

The monkey shakes his head in a condemning manner and starts dancing around; meaning the people were dancing and having fun.

The chief asks: “Yeah, but what else were they doing?”.

The monkey uses his hand and takes it to his mouth as if holding a bottle.

The chief says: “Oh! They were drinking, huh?!” The chief continues, “Okay, were they doing anything else?”

The monkey nods his head and moves his mouth back and forth, meaning they were talking.

The chief loses his patience: “If they were having such a great time, who was driving the stupid bus then?”

The monkey cheerfully swings his arms to the sides as if grabbing a wheel.

A company, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hires a new CEO. This new boss is determined to rid the company of all slackers.

On a tour of the facilities, the CEO notices a guy leaning on a wall. The room is full of workers and he wants to let them know he means business!

The CEO walks up to the guy and asks, “And how much money do you make a week?” Undaunted, the young fellow looks at him and replies, “I make $300.00 a week. Why?”

The CEO then hands the guy $300 in cash and screams, “Here’s a week’s pay, now GET OUT and don’t come back!”

Feeling pretty good about his first firing, the CEO looks around the room and asks “Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-off did here?”

With a sheepish grin, one of the other workers mutters, “Pizza delivery guy from Domino’s.”

Bill Clinton did not respond himself to Mitt Romney’s use of the former president in his ad accusing President Obama of a move to “gut” Clinton’s welfare reforms of 1996, but instead Chicago held a conference call using his former chief of staff, John Podesta, to rebut the claim, via Hunter Walker:

We have been reacting to this stupid welfare ad all Day. I dont see what the big deal is? Its a lie, it’s been fact checked!

      August 7, 2012 at 10:43 pm

The President will answer this, and I have no doubt Bill Clinton will too…..however, this is too early in the season for it to have major effect. This kind of trash works at the end of September first of October when it hits as a surprise, like the Willie Horton ad of Lee Atwater. It came late in the campaign. This one will be dealt with, and Romney’s taxes will not be forgotten. I imagine the Rmoneyhcampaign will have a new lie out every week hoping to distract the press. Frankly, I think people are truly catching on to the racial whistles in Romney’s campaign. I just heard a bit on BriWi’s report on the Sikh massacre, and it was different in tone and content. One young lady said”We are ALL Americans. I want the hate to stop.” The memorial service for the leader who was killed has become so large, it has to be moved to the high school auditorium. What that young lady said is a step. More and more people are tired of being pitted against each other.
I also think that so many people have come close to needing government aid the past 7 years, that they are not so swift to condemn those who need it .

      • August 7, 2012 at 10:52 pm

Maybe the President should have waited til after the Election, on this matter.
I don’t see Tavis or Cornell out there backing Him up on this…
The Campaign is very defensive over this freaking ad. I guess it is playing the race card, I don’t know, I am nit black!
But, if it is that, then the Obama Camp wants to get out in front of this.
Now I am starting to get mad, they got us all defensive over this. Shit!

        • 86 thoughtful3
          August 7, 2012 at 11:10 pm

Well, I am black, Jovie and, to tell ya truth, I ain’t the least bit worried bout it. This ain’t 1980 and Romney ain’t Reagan, no matter how hard they try to replay that song.

        • August 8, 2012 at 12:08 am

Jovie – since when have you ever seen Tavis or Cornell backing up the President on anything? And secondly, I think you may be completely wrong on this one. The Obama campaign is not on the defensive, and until I read your posts here, I was actually thinking that the Administration has nipped this lie in the bud. Every single news report I heard today was calling Mitt out on this lie. Every single one.

We can’t complain on one day that the Admin has to get in front of the Romney lies and knock them down, and then complain that they did just that because it doesn’t meet our own timeline of some sort. Personally, I think they did the right thing attacking this head on.

S&P closes over 1,400 for first time in 3 months
    http://www.dailyfinance.com/article/us-futures-rise-as-more-us-companies-show-health/1250195/

“Stronger corporate earnings reports and expectations that central banks will act to support the economy powered the Standard & Poor’s 500 index past 1,400 for the first time in three months. The index rose 7.12 points to close at 1,401.35 on Tuesday. Energy stocks increased the most of the 10 industry groups tracked by the index.

The Nasdaq composite index marked a milestone of its own: the first close above 3,000 since early May. The Nasdaq rose 25.95 points to 3,015.86…[snip]”

“…MGM Resorts International[supporters of Senator Harry Reid] reported a 29 percent surge in revenue even though the casino company had a quarterly loss. The stock rose 70 cents, or 7.5 percent, to $10.08”

The S&P hasn’t closed above 1,400 since May 2, and the Nasdaq hasn’t closed above 3,000 since May 3.

“There’s been a bunch of positive earnings numbers,” said Stephen Carl, head of equity trading at The Williams Capital Group. “While that makes some investors happy, I’d like to see some more robust growth.”

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 51.09 points to 13,168.60. The Dow is now 996 points below its all-time high of 14,164.53 reached on Oct. 9, 2007, prior to the financial crisis. The Dow would have to rise 7.6 percent to break that record…”[More in the article]

Thanks Chipsticks for all that you do! NZ is going through our own marriage bill debate right now, and I really believe, that because President Obama led the way and was in favour of same sex couples to be married, publicly followed by conservative Prime Minister David Cameron in the U.K… it has allowed our conservative Prime Minister, John Key, to back the marriage bill in our own country!!! President Obama made it okay for other Leaders to support marriage equality, move with the times and be on the right side of History. DO YOU LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA? Know anybody who does? Are you on Corbett’s Voter ID List?

Recently Governor Corbett and the Republican Legislature passed a bill requiring all Pennsylvanians have a valid photo ID in order to vote. The problem is that the law was written in a way that goes beyond just protecting against voter fraud – it actually could prevent over 750,000 Pennsylvanians from voting. The Department of State published a list of voters who can be denied at the polls.

Clinton Swipes at Romney Welfare Fib

// Statement by President Bill Clinton on Governor Mitt Romney’s New Television Advertisement

New York, NY-Governor Romney released an ad today alleging that the Obama administration had weakened the work requirements of the 1996 Welfare Reform Act. That is not true.

The act emerged after years of experiments at the state level, including my work as Governor of Arkansas beginning in 1980. When I became President, I granted waivers from the old law to 44 states to implement welfare to work strategies before welfare reform passed. After the law was enacted, every state was required to design a plan to move people into the workforce, along with more funds to help pay for training, childcare and transportation. As a result, millions of people moved from welfare to work.

…The Romney ad is especially disappointing because, as governor of Massachusetts, he requested changes in the welfare reform laws that could have eliminated time limits altogether. We need a bipartisan consensus to continue to help people move from welfare to work even during these hard times, not more misleading campaign ads. //

Thank you Amk for posting this very uplifting article about “Air Gabby”. I am so proud of this very smart, talented, and brave young woman. She is such a true and honest and humble person. A friend once told me that we were cut from the same cloth…I think all our great athletes, politicians, teachers, doctors, etc., who go into their field or professions to make a difference in theirs and other peoples lives are all “cut from the same cloth”.

if there was actual journalism in the mainstream media, the republican party would be a minor fringe party by now after bush junior, the current congressional republicans, and this clown show called the rmoney campaign!

Seems like China has become the new East Germany of the Olympics. From early 1950s to 1989, we thought East Germany was invincible becuse of their Olympic athletes. We learned after 1990 that ALL they put their money into was their athletes…..no industry, not infrastructure, not jobs, not their army. Now China is not as hidden as East Germany was behind the Iron Curtain, but I ‘m sure they are concentrating on the Olympics as a political tool just like East Germany did. All their athletes are really professionals.

Dudette, I’m calling BS on this article. The author take a fair amount of liberty to say what PBO does or doesn’t like. It also implies, from a conservative commentator no less, that PBO doesn’t “understood that the campaign didn’t end and that public perception was vitally important to governing,”

And that PBO frustrates the jackals that pose as White House “correspondents” … that the “media” were the reason for his rise to prominence, and that he is ‘thin skinned’ about article he doesn’t like. It’s mostly conjecture. They are looking so hard to find something to dislike about the guy.

      Whatever, Washington Post, whatever!!!!

HAHAHAHAHA…..Paging JoeScar….Paging Ed Rendell……Subject Line: Bain ads not working?

Mitt Romney is laboring under the lowest personal popularity ratings for a presumptive presidential nominee in midsummer election-year polls back to 1984…….Forty percent of Americans overall view Romney favorably, 49 percent unfavorably – leaving him underwater, at least numerically, in 10 straight polls this year. Romney finished the primary season with the lowest favorability for a presumptive nominee in ABC/Post polls back 28 years; the question was whether that represented a post-primary campaign hangover from which he’d recover. The answer: not yet.

Indeed, while indecision about Romney has fallen from 37 percent last September to 11 percent now, the trend among those who’ve made up their minds has been largely negative: His favorability rating has gained 7 percentage points in the past year, but his unfavorable score is up by 18.

OBAMA – Obama, for his part, is seen more positively than negatively among all adults, 53-43 percent favorable-unfavorable.Obama’s gained back ground he’d lost among independents, customarily swing voters in national elections. In late May he fell numerically underwater among independents for the first time since December (45-52 percent favorable-unfavorable). He’s now back far in front of Romney in this group, largely because of gains among independent women.

Among all independents, Obama’s favorability rating is now 16 points higher than Romney’s (53 percent vs. 37 percent)

The statement, although laying out the facts, is just so-so. Imagine what a Republican ex-governor or President would have done: a good zinger or two or total outrage.

This is too tepid for my taste. The stakes are now too high and the Romney ad is a complete lie. Bill Clinton could have done more than dispassionately set the record straight. he could have done some good in framing Romney.

Here’s an interesting graphic which details the breakdown of the negative MSM coverage that PBO receives vs Romney. As we’ve all been noticing, the negative coverage for Romney is significantly lower. With the exception of NPR and Hardball, PBO receives an average of more than 15% negative coverage relative to Willard.

Here’s the breakdown of negative coverage assigned to each candidate by the various MSM outlets. “Fair and Balanced” alright.

FOX News: PBO 76%, Romney 24%
CBS News: PBO 63%, Romney 37%
Washington Post: PBO 62%, Romney 38%
USA Today: PBO 60%, Romney 40%
NY Times: PBO 57%, Romney 43%
    CNN: PBO 57%, Romney 43%

    NPR: PBO 49%, Romney 51%
    Hardball: PBO 37% Romney 63%

Goooood Morning all you O peeps!!! Another great getting up day on the TOD stoop!!!! I caught a bit of the Moanin’ Folks show and must say that Robert Gibbs remains my hero. He was very much out numbered and called upon to answer for everything from a SuperPac’s ad to PBO’s jump shot (not really). Anyway, he more than held his own and I’m sure went straight to the showers. I am proud of the O team.

My political take today is the other campaign will try to change the subject from Mittiful’s taxes to the horrible blaming of a death on Mittfit by the SuperPac. There is a double standard comparison between what’s a negative ad and how the truth about someone puts them in a negative light. Well, that’s because sometimes the truth indeed hurts. If Mitt is held accountable for the truth about him, then there wouldn’t be talk about negative ads by the PBO campaign. It’s just August, it’ll get worst before it gets better. Mitt hasn’t even begun to use all of that money he and his cartel has amassed. Hang on to your uppers, September is gonna be a doozy.
