President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will hit the trail together in Iowa next week, the campaign announced.

Just heard a report on NBC Nightly News about the shooting in WI. As a part of the piece, reporter (don’t know who was doing the piece), was talking about hate groups in US and said that there is over 1000 hate groups, in part fueled by the bad economy. I almost threw something at the TV and I did yell! Give me a fricking break. They think all these hate groups have been formed by the bad economy????? Dog whistle comment blaming the bad economy on PO??????????? Gees. Somebody talk me down!

    • August 7, 2012 at 7:56 pm

They can blame it on the bad economy if they want. The bad economy was caused by failed Republican policies. It’s been perpetuated and exacerbated by Republicans. And the current presumptive nominee wants to return to those failed Republican policies. They want to blame the hate groups on the economy – let them. They should own it, because they’ve stoked the fires of hate, in addition to causing the economy.

Well, that is how Hitler rose to power….he used a bad economy to blame it on people “DOING WELL” and are targeted as “different”. The GOP is blaming the bad economy on people who are doing worst than those who NORMALLY are doing well and oh they’re different too.

The conditions forced on the Germans after WWI were really onerous. Crushing even. No conventional economy could deal with the amounts of reparations demanded. Hitler, among others, claimed that Germany could never have been defeated in WWI without the “stab in the back” at the home front. Two guesses as to who was blamed — and the first one doesn’t count.
The “noble Germans” had been betrayed by international Jewish frinanciers and their collaborators on the home front.
The economy was bad, yes, but Hitler would not have risen to power without having the Jewish scapegoat.

The domestic USNazis have pretty much given up on the Jews as a main target (though the occasional synagogue fire keeps them in touch with their anti-semitic roots). Their usual target now is black and brown people in general and muslims in particular.
The bad economy helps them in that most of the white supremicists are pretty low level with no skills and a propensity for losing jobs.

Michael Jordan, NBA players to raise money for Obama

“WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is joining NBA legend Michael Jordan and an array of basketball stars to raise money for his re-election campaign later this month.

The Obama campaign is planning a fundraising “shoot-around” and dinner in New York on Aug. 22 featuring several NBA stars, including Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks, Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics, John Wall of the Washington Wizards and others. Jordan, who played for the Chicago Bulls, Obama’s favorite NBA team, and NBA Commissioner David Stern are co-hosting a $20,000-per person fundraising dinner with the president later in the day.

Obama is a longtime basketball fan who regularly plays pickup games with friends and aides. His campaign held a fundraiser last February at the Orlando-area home of NBA player Vince Carter, who is also involved in the New York events.

The campaign is holding a “shoot-around” with players at New York’s Chelsea Piers sports complex, including Anthony, Rondo, Wall, Paul Pierce, Kyrie Irving, Joe Johnson and former NBA centers Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning. WNBA stars Sheryl Swoopes and Dawn Staley are also participating in the event, which will cost $5,000 for a parent and child or two people to have a “shoot-around skills session” with the players. A $250 donation provides an autograph session with the players.

Obama’s campaign plans to raffle off the chance for grass-roots supporters to attend the events…”

I was listening to the radio on the way home from grocery shopping and a local reporter, Charles Thomas, from ABC News was speaking as a guest on a local radio station here. He was at the rally for Mittfit in Elk Grove Village, a suburb of Chicago. Well, after Mittiful spoke, he talked with some of the workers in attendance. One worker gushed how happy he was to be working at the facility (manufactures precision pieces for some widget or another). Anyway, when asked why, the person said because their company had increased over 80% this past year and the company was hiring. Well the reporter, a definite PBO supporter, didn’t ask him who he attributed that to, instead went and found the owner of the company to get collaboration. When he talked to the owner (I forgot his name), he enthusiastically confirmed the company’s growth and that he was indeed hiring to keep up with the workload, and that he sold to companies here in America and not overseas. Charles told his camera operator to put him on right then so that he would be sure when it aired on the evening news, he would have captured how pleased the owner of the company was as a result of Obama’s policies. Then he tweeted it to the world.

So who are the front people who are responsible for Mitt’s travels? They put up a businessman who claims he built his business by himself until we learn of all the government assistance. Today Mitt gives a rally speech to at the location of a small business owner who is doing far above any normal expectations because of PBO’s economic policies. I think I’m going to figure out how to get this in 140 characters or less.

and according to the Chgo Trib, Willard was only talking about welfare at Acme Industries—–how President Obama is “taking out the work requirement” from welfare reform and creating a “culture of dependency”, again trying to stir up animosity. Willard raised $2 million here today at the $78,000 a ticket fundraiser. Ugh.

The Chicago Tribune is not the paper to go to for an unbiased report on anything. they have always been a Republican newspaper and their endorsements are always for the Republican. They did endorse their native son Barack Obama for president in ’08, which was the first time in the history of the paper that they endorsed a Democrat for president.

        • 31 dotster3
          August 7, 2012 at 8:10 pm

I know that is the Trib’s history—–but I have noticed a softening as of late, dare I say. It’s definitely different than it used to be—-lots of people have left that paper, a lot of the former radical Repubs. Not that it’s now pro-Dem but more objective. And I think they grew to be genuinely sold on Obama. I read every single thing they ever wrote about him, they followed him everywhere, tracked his history around the world, and conducted a bunch of long interviews with him—–and became convinced he deserved the endorsement and the presidency.

Days after praising Israel in Jerusalem, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney took a shot at kibbutzim, arguing in favor of American individualism and entrepreneurship.

“What America is not [is] a collective where we all work in a kibbutz,” Romney said at a fundraiser at a downtown Chicago restaurant. “Instead it’s individuals pursuing their dreams and building successful enterprises which employ others and they become inspired as they see what has happened in the place they work and go off and start their own enterprises.”

It was an odd comment for Romney, especially considering that he argued that Israel’s culture made the difference in its economic success. Kibbutzim, or collective farms, were essential building blocks in making Jewish settlements in Palestine and ultimately made the creation and growth of the state of Israel even possible.

Romney visited a kibbutz threatened by rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip with New York Jets owner Woody Johnson in January 2011 as part of a Middle East trip, NJ.com reported.

Joe Klein, Time Magazine on Hardball says Romney’s campaign is lying about his economic plan if he is saying that he can reduce all taxes by 20% and close loopholes without leaving it to the middle class to pay for it. Joe, called his tax plan a mirage and that he’s making a fool of himself.

Then Howard Finneman said that when he tried to talk to Romney’s campaign today about the taxes, they asked him why did he want to talk about taxes, they wanted to talk about Harry Reid and PBO.

Then I had to laugh at Romney’s response to PBO calling him Romneyhood. Tweety showed a clip where Romney said that PBO was full of “Obamaloney.” Only thing is he tripped all over the word, cause you know he didn’t come up with it on his own. Ha ha

A Must Read: an interview of a woman who quit the Mormon Church. She talks about the Mormon culture and how it explains Mitt Romney’s behavior. And it made me more concerned than ever about him.

I think more is gonna come out about the Mormon Church as we get closer to the elections. There has just not been much discussion about it, especially since it goes against most Evangelical beliefs. We’re going to start hearing more and more.

Side note….I hope the PBO campaign doesn’t fall for the who’s gonna be tougher on welfare bait. Mitt’s trying to draw him out by claiming that PBO is gutting welfare, in hopes that PBO has to say that he’s not, which re-enforces the narrative that PBO is giving the money of people who work to welfare recipients who don’t work.

What the Obama campaign have to do is call it what it is a lie. It is another example of how low Mitt Romney will go. When lying doesn’t bother you you know you have a sorry ass man. And that is what Mitt Romney is. Jay Carney said the welfare ad was a lie.

This article is actually the first real understandable explanation of how Romney came to lie so effortlessly and with seeming lack of concious. I don’t like the idea of bashing anyone’s religion. I hated the endless bashing PBO got about his minister when he ran in ’08. I do think that lying should not be accepted in our President though.

Jon Stryker is one of the few billionaires contributing this year to Democratic super PACs. In June, he gave $750,000 to the PAC called Priorities USA Action, after previously sending money to the Obama Victory Fund and other Democratic committees. Although Stryker didn’t wait for Obama’s endorsement of same sex marriage before supporting the president’s re-election bid, it certainly didn’t hurt.

Cell Phone Carriers Dial P for Politics

Last year, Credo Mobile, a wireless company run by a liberal organization called Working Assets, launched a super PAC. Targeting congressional Tea Party members for defeat, it has raised $2 million and spent $1.3 million. Credo subscribers tend to be like-minded people who sign on with Working Assets because of its well-publicized activism.

Most cell phone users contract for service with little idea of the carrier’s politics. Yet some of these companies are major lobbyists in Washington and big spenders in national campaigns. As a guide for consumers who care about the political activities of the companies they patronize, we analyzed elections data for top carriers, their political action committees and officers.

In the list [of carriers contained in the Forbes article], a red cell phone indicates that the company leans Republican, while a blue cell phone is Democratic. If donations were evenly split between the two parties, or politicking was minimal, the company received a purple cell phone…”
[NOTE: The list of carriers shows only one Blue (Credo Mobile), 3 Red and 5 Purple]

Great article from Oliver Willis: “Some Liberals love Honorable Losers”

    • 106 nathkatun7
      August 7, 2012 at 11:32 pm

Excellent article! Thanks for sharing it, Squarepeg. I was disgusted to see the so called liberal/progressive people in the media join in the vicious attacks against Sen. Harry Reid. All they did was enable Romney and the right wingers to change the subject. Instead of focusing on Romney for not releasing his Tax Returns, the media was all over hyperventilating about Reid’s allegation.

As far as I am concerned, Sen. Reid’s allegations, based on the information he received from a “credible” person, have not been disproven. The only person who can disprove them is Mitt Romney. All he has to do is release his tax turns for the period of 2000-2009; just as both President Obama and Vice-President Biden have done. Then the whole world will see who is lying: Romney or Reid’s informer. But so longer as Romney refuses to release his tax returns, common sense tells me that he has something to hide. I could understand if Romney was opposing the release of all his tax returns based on a principled positions that politicians are entitled to privacy, and therefore need not share their tax information with the public. But that’s not what Romney is doing. Instead, he is saying that he will only release the tax returns that he has cleaned up and those should sufficient.

I am sorry, but I don’t buy Romney’s BS! Reid alleged that Romney did not pay taxes for ten years prior to his 2010 filing. Letting the American people see the tax returns of 2010 and 2011 does not prove that Romney paid taxes for the Tax years of 2000-2009 that Reid speaks of. Calling Senator Reid a liar, or accusing him of McCartheyism, does not answer this central question: Did Mitt Romney pay taxes for 2000-2009? If he did, as he and his campaign have emphatically said that he did, then why not release the Tax Returns of those years and prove that Harry Reid, and the person who told him, lied? For the media to equate allegation about not paying taxes with allegation about beating your wife, or allegation of being accused of communism, is, to use Sarah Pain’s favorite word, lame. There is absolutely no correlation. While the allegation that you are a wife beater, or a communist, may be hard to disprove, allegation that you did not pay taxes are very easy to disprove. All you need to do is show your tax returns. Obviously, if you paid your taxes, but used all kinds of tricks, which are not available to ordinary tax payers, such as hiding your money in foreign banks, then you may not want to release your tax returns; especially when you are a presidential candidate who is running on a slogan: “Believe In America.”

Even thou most in the Mainstream Media have joined the Republicans in the vicious attacks on Sen. Harry Reid, we are still in the dark about Romney’s taxes. The central question still has not gone away. And that question is: Did Mitt Romney pay federal income taxes from 2000 to 2009, contrary to what Sen. Reid alleged? If indeed Romney paid federal taxes for those years, did he pay a higher or lower tax rate than the 13.9% rate he reported on his 2010 return? Finally, if he paid a much lower rate than the one in 2010, did Romney derive any tax advantages by investing and banking his money in banks and businesses outside of the United States?

Serious and reputable journalists should be asking these questions.

Romney said it was ‘demonstrably’ false, which means he can demonstrate it’s falsehood. So, Mitt needs to prove it. Also, too, Harry Reid did not accuse romney of a crime.

The cowardly media is too afraid to attack republicans for all the lying and other b.s., so, at the first opportunity, they jump all over a Democrat. F**K That.

If you’re going to Vegas anytime soon, you might want to spend your money at the MGM Grand or Cesar’s to thank them for supporting Senator Harry Reid! Tell your friends and neighbors.

Love PBO and FLMO together. They are a power couple for sure. They have made the role of president and first lady one of solidarity with the people. I have never seen any person in power touch so many people both physically and emotionally.

I read that 50% of all counties in U.S. are in drought distress. I’ve never seen it this dry here in Illinois, virtually no rain all summer. All, or almost all, of the crops in Ia., In. and Il. are a loss. I know more states are affected also, but I’ve seen these states—-just fields of brown, dried up corn stalks etc.

    Transgender Discrimination Barred Under ACA

In response to letters from LGBT health and advocacy groups, the Department of Health and Human Services announced in letter made public yesterday that, under the Affordable Care Act, discrimination based on gender identity will not be tolerated. Leon Rodriguez, director of HHS’ Office for Civil Rights, stated in a written response to the groups that federally-funded health care programs are barred from discriminating against transgender people. This inclusion does not, however, mean that trans-specific health care, such as transition-related procedures, will be included in coverage.

The National Center for Transgender Equality’s executive director Mara Keisling notes that one in five transgender people report being turned away from a health care provider. “HHS affirms our position that these abuses are now clearly illegal,” said Keisling. She remarked that this position will hopefully be a tool to get to the next step of covering trans-specific health care.

Trans and health care advocates assert that it is important for trans people to know their rights regarding health care, and to contact HHS when they experience discrimination. The HHS Office of Civil Rights will soon release guidelines for how to respond to health care discrimination. Trans activist Jos Truitt writes, “a law specifically targeting [trans] discrimination would be a valuable next step, and showing that the need exists could help make this a reality.”

Two Reasons Why Tim Pawlenty Won’t Be Mitt Romney’s Running Mate

Folks are looking at Wikileaks to see whose profiles have been altered the most in the last few days. It seems that Thune’s has been cleaned up more than twice the other mentioned possibilities. $arah Pay’ems Wikilleak profile was changed an unheard of amount prior to her being named. They re-invented her beforehand, but she still couldn’t pull it off.

Mitt Romney Violated Twitter’s Terms of Service by Buying Fake Followers

An analysis of Mitt Romney’s one day gain over 100,000 Twitter followers has revealed that most of his new followers are fake accounts.

On July 21, Mitt Romney’s Twitter account suddenly gained over 100,000 new followers in a day. This development was odd, because Romney wasn’t even campaigning due to the Colorado movie theater shootings.

An analysis by Barracuda Labs sheds some light on who, or more specifically what, these new followers are. Note: the analysis included the four days after the sudden spike in followers.

Here is what we now know about Romney’s Twitter new followers from July 21-26:

“The number of Romney’s followers increased 17% (or 116,922) on a single day Jul 21, 2012, going from 673,002 to 789,924.

25% of these followers are less than 3 weeks old (created after July 17th 2012), 80% of them are less than 3 months old.

23% or about 1/4 of these followers have no tweet.

10% of these account has already been suspended by Twitter.”

Based on the above distinguishable features, we believe most of these recent followers of Romney are not from a general Twitter population but most likely from a paid Twitter follower service.

The author of the Barracuda Labs study was careful to point out that buying Twitter followers doesn’t require authentication of the account, so it could be supporters or opponents buying the followers for Romney’s account.

This is where a little common sense and knowledge about recent campaign strategies on social media comes into play. 2012 GOP primary candidates Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty, and Mitt Romney all had Twitter accounts that were loaded with bought followers. Campaigns and their supporters view Twitter followers as measure of their candidate’s popularity… [more in the article]

Here’s an interesting graphic which details the breakdown of the negative MSM coverage that PBO receives vs Romney. As we’ve all been noticing, the negative coverage for Romney is significantly lower. With the exception of NPR and Hardball, PBO receives an average of more than 15% negative coverage relative to Willard.

Here’s the breakdown of negative coverage assigned to each candidate by the various MSM outlets. “Fair and Balanced” alright.

FOX News: PBO 76%, Romney 24%
CBS News: PBO 63%, Romney 37%
Washington Post: PBO 62%, Romney 38%
USA Today: PBO 60%, Romney 40%
NY Times: PBO 57%, Romney 43%
    CNN: PBO 57%, Romney 43%

    NPR: PBO 49%, Romney 51%
    Hardball: PBO 37% Romney 63%

This is alot of B.S., the Obama campaign has been hitting Romney with the truth, nothing negative. The truth. What about Mitt and all his flat out lies.

anniebella, the graphic is not about how positive or negative the campaigns are. It’s saying how much negative coverage the various media networks are giving each candidate. This is showing the media bias against the President and how much they are trying to protect Romney.

Sorry if I didn’t make this clear.

NPR? I am not so sure about this. After I started boycotting corporate broadcasting, I turned public radio and television. But I was so disappointed because both NPR and PBS were filled with Obama bashing. I had to turn them off. I hope this poll reflects slightly improved positive coverage of the President.

The US team protested the results of one of their competitors scoring 4th and it worked as they put her in a tie for 3rd which put her ahead with some other rule that gave her the bronze. Not so sure I liked that so much. I used to be in competitions and it was considered poor sportsmanship to not accept the results. Although I will say if PBO loses I hope he contests the results if anything funny seems to have happened.
