    Evening folks.

After years of supporting him with words and (occasional) donations, I made the decision this week to become an official OFA volunteer for the 2012 reelection of PBO 🙂 Since I’m not in a battleground state, our work will mostly be in the office(s), coordinating outreach to other states and, of course, registering people to vote. I’m looking forward to contributing!

How would Huntsman know Miit’s taxes?

    • August 6, 2012 at 10:07 pm

      HF2,

      Thanks for posting.

Jon Huntsman is as wealthy as R-money, but he’s not mean about it.

Interesting Bain Capital and Huntsman Corp. relationship. And now the sleazy Bain wants to buyout Huntsman Corp. Jon Huntsman could certainly be motivated to seek revenge against the souless, heartless R-moneybot.

That would make perfect sense. Him or someone in the Huntsman camp. There is a lot of speculation that the leak could come from Robert Gay, who was a manager at Bain, and who is an associate of Jon Huntsman Sr.

Looks like Satan has Romney by the balls….in a vice grip

The source of Adelson’s huge campaign contributions would appear to create a conflict with Romney’s Mormon convictions. The official website of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints states: “The Church opposes gambling in any form, including government-sponsored lotteries.”

What Mormons Believe, an unofficial web site explicating the positions of the Church declares:

The Mormon Church has always opposed gambling in every form, including government-sponsored lotteries. Mormon prophets and leaders have counseled the members over time, to avoid gambling of any type. Doing so, leads one away from righteousness and into the hands of Satan. The Mormon belief is that it is an addictive behavior and leads only to destructive habits and practices. It undermines the value of work and motivates one to think that they can get something for nothing. In time, the gambler will deny themselves, as well as their family the basic needs of life. They will oft times steal from others to finance their addiction, which in turn leads to stealing, robbery, etc.

This little ass can’t even stick with the tenets of his faith is there’s money for him involved. No Core. No morals. No shit.

This was posted on the last thread, but hasn’t gained much traction with the MSM twitterworld (no surprise there).

    See these tidbits:

“Bain Capital, under Romney as chief executive officer, made about $1 billion in a leveraged buyout 12 years ago that remains controversial in Italy to this day.”

“Romney himself probably earned more than $50 million, and possibly as much as $60 million from the Italian directory sale of Seat Pagine Gialle SpA, according to a person familiar with the matter. The deal turned into one of the biggest windfalls of his tenure.”

And you were spot-on, dun! I saw the same disturbing trends when the media did not give President Obama the normal six month honeymoon. The media started attacking the President from the beginning. Two months after he took office, the tea party, a media creation itself by Rick Santelli, was being actively promoted by the media. The same media that had ignored covering the massive and worldwide anti- Iraq war, was now all of a sudden giving this puny teabag movement wall-to-wall coverage.

      • August 7, 2012 at 1:25 am

I recall Jessica Yellin saying during the inauguration night coverage that the “scrutiny” of the President would start “tomorrow”. When I think of how unfair this opposition to President Obama has been, I’m filled with awe at how brilliantly they’ve withstood all the attacks, with little support from Democrats.

Going to repost this here…Romney/Cheney have deep ties to Iran..wondered if there is any link with that Standard Bank that is in big trouble with the Feds…

    http://www.perrspectives.com/blog/archives/000552.htm

In a high profile effort to bolster his credibility on national security, 2008 Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney last week called on New York to divest its pension fund of any holdings in firms doing with business with Iran. But as it turns out, it is Mitt Romney’s former employer with the ties to Tehran. And as you’d expect, Dick Cheney’s Halliburton is in deep as well.
Following the lead of former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Romney began his grandstanding on Iranian disinvestment by targeting the Democratic-controlled states of New York and Massachusetts. On February 22, Romney sent letters to New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton as well as state comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli urging a policy of “strategic disinvestment from companies linked to the Iranian regime.” Romney’s theatrics continued:

“With your new responsibilities overseeing one of America’s largest pension funds, you have a unique opportunity to lead an effort to isolate Iran as it pursues nuclear armament. I request that you immediately launch a policy of strategic disinvestment from companies linked to the Iranian regime. Screening pension investments and divesting from companies providing financial support to the Iranian regime or linked to Iran’s weapons programs and terrorist activities could have a powerful impact. New investments should be scrutinized as long as Iran’s regime continues its current, dangerous course.”
As it turns out, scrutiny begins at home. As the AP detailed, Romney’s former employer and the company he founded have recent links to recent Iranian business deals:

Romney joined Boston-based Bain & Co., a management consulting firm, in 1978 and worked there until 1984. He was CEO of Bain Capital, a venture capital firm, from 1984 to 1999, despite a two-year return as Bain & Co.’s chief executive officer from 1991 to 1992.
Bain & Co. Italy, described in company literature as “the Italian branch of Bain & Co.,” received a $2.3 million contract from the National Iranian Oil Co., in September 2004. Its task was to develop a master plan so NIOC — the state oil company of Iran — could become one of the world’s top oil companies, according to Iranian and U.S. news accounts of the deal.

Bain Capital, the venture capital firm that Romney started and made him a multimillionaire, teamed up with the Haier Group, a Chinese appliance maker that has a factory in Iran, in an unsuccessful 2005 buyout effort.

This is not the first time his former corporate home has proven to be the bane (pun intended) of Mitt Romney’s political existence. During his failed 1994 Senate race and successful 2002 gubernatorial run, Romney was labeled a corporate raider after revelations that a company Bain purchased in Indiana moved quickly to shed hundreds of workers and drop health care for many more.

But this time, Romney is playing dumb — and blind. The former Massachusetts governor claims his investments are in Boston-managed blind trust beyond his control. And more importantly, Romney’s declared that his new-found distrust of the Ahmadinejad regime in Tehran only applies going forward:

“This is something for now-forward. I wouldn’t begin to say that people who, in the past, have been doing business with Iran, are subject to the same scrutiny as that which is going on from a prospective basis.”

    Oh yeah! http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2012/08/is_obamacare_on_the_rebound.php?ref=fpblg

The AP notes that President Obama is embracing ‘Obamacare’ on the campaign trail. And recent polls suggest why. Health Reform is more popular than it’s been in two years. And it’s been steadily getting more popular over the course of the summer.

    Trend chart after the jump.

    http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/08/06/romney_family_continued_to_buy_stocks_despite_pledge.html

Romney Family Continued to buy Stocks Despite Pledge

    Mitt Romney “promised in 2007 he would shed any investments that conflicted with Republican positions on hot-button domestic and foreign policy issues. But Romney’s family trusts kept some of those holdings and repeatedly bought new ones until 2010, when they were finally sold off for more than $3 million,” according to the Associated Press;

“Recently disclosed tax returns for three family trust funds for Romney, his wife, Ann, and their adult children show scores of trades in companies whose business operations are inconsistent with Republican Party stances that Romney favors on Iran, China, stem cell research, abortion and other issues.”

“The continual trading between 2006 and 2010 raises questions about why the investments continued for three years, even after Romney said in 2007 that the trust would sell off any conflicted holdings. Those trades came during a period when Romney has sought to convince voters of his conservative Republican values. The trades also raise questions about whether any of the transactions were vetted for possible conflicts or political perception before they were made.”

Elliot has a tendency to drive me nuts…but I think he has a good point here.

    http://www.slate.com/blogs/spitzer/2012/08/06/obama_is_better_at_business_than_romney_creative_destruction_of_the_auto_industry.html

I wish the Obama administration had added another element to its discussion of Bain. Simply put, the White House could claim: “We do it better!” Their auto-sector investment is a paradigm of success. Rather than let an industry fail or simply move the jobs overseas, as Bain seems to have done, the administration negotiated with all parties to restructure, share the sacrifice, and rebuild. The public’s return on investment will be real—and we saved an entire sector. Don’t attack the notion of private-equity investment that retools an industry; claim the mantle that we know how to do it better. The argument puts us on the right side of economic growth, has the virtue of truth, and denies Romney what he has pretended is his calling card: the ability and know-how to rebuild the economy.

    • August 7, 2012 at 12:56 am

What I don’t get is why these former Democrats like Spitzer don’t think it’s their responsibility to get the truth out, but they’re so quick to call out the Obama Administration for not (in their eyes) managing to break through the media blitz to get out a message that benefits this country. Is this not Spitzer’s party, his country, the future of his children that is at stake? Why don’t they feel like they also have a responsibility to be part of the solution, instead of just continuously pointing out the problem? I get tired of all these experts.

That said – he’s right about the finesse of President Obama’s auto solution. It was a true collaboration across so many disparate groups, that caused them all to give a little but get a lot. Much harder to achieve than just screeching, “let Detroit go bankrupt” from the safety of an op-ed, and then claiming credit for the success.

      • 135 desertflower
        August 7, 2012 at 1:04 am

I don’t understand either…which is why I prefaced that with he “has a tendency to drive me nuts”…but I did agree with the framing of the auto industry. It was complicated, but everyone involved knew the stakes and worked together for the greater good…and look at them now. Romney…too much work and no money for him…let them go bankrupt!!

      • August 7, 2012 at 1:07 am

Because, Spitzer is a Clintonite! We might not know for years, what exactly all these Clinton People had at stake, if Hillary had won.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! What a joke. Notice that it’s always some media outlet (Tampa Bay Times no doubt) that is reporting about Romney’s so-called grass roots campaign, when they provide absolutely ZERO Evidence of the ludicrous claims they make?

      1. They state that Romney has 40 “victory offices” in FL, yet they don’t provide a single address or phone number for any of those offices. Instead they list all PBO’s new office addresses/phone numbers. I thought the article was about Romney’s 40 offices?!?!?!? HAHAHAHAHA….

      2. They claim that “On “Super Saturday” last weekend, REPUBLICANS SAY volunteers made more than a quarter million voter contacts in Florida by phone and knocked on more than 30,000 doors.” HAHAHAHAHAHA. Where are the first hand accounts of this activity? Where are the first-hand tweets or reports from volunteers? Where are the pictures? When OFA is engaged, we SEE and HEAR evidence all the time from people who are actually engaged in the process. We see tweets with pictures directly from PBO’s and DWS’s accounts about the grassroots campaigns all the time. We don’t see ANYTHING From Romney’s or his surrogate accounts about ANY grassroots campaigns and believe me, I check Romney’s Twitter TL quite regularly, most recently before I posted this comment.

      3. The Romney “grassroots” campaign is a corporate-funded system of HIGHLY PAID executives, who control the media airways (and that increasingly includes the Internet, Internet search engines like Google, social media sites like Twitter, etc), Robocalls, and chain emails and written letters spreading LIES about OBama and appealing to people’s racial and xenophobic fears. This article by the Tampa Bay times about Romney’s non-existent 40 FL “grassroots” offices is a clear example of this corporate-funded system of dishonest reporting to help Mitt Romney and make him seem on par with President Obama.

There was a little boy named Johnny who used to hang out at the local corner market. The owner didn’t know what Johnny’s problem was, but the boys would constantly tease him. They would always comment that he was two bricks shy of a load, or two pickles short of a barrel. To prove it, sometimes they would offer Johnny his choice between a nickel (5 cents) and a dime (10 cents) and John would always take the nickel … they said, because it was bigger.

One day after Little Johnny grabbed the nickel, the store owner took him aside and said “Johnny, those boys are making fun of you. They think you don’t know the dime is worth more than the nickel. Are you grabbing the nickel because it’s bigger, or what?”

Slowly, Little Johnny turned toward the store owner and a big grin appeared on his face and he said, “Well, if I took the dime, they’d stop doing it, and so far I have saved $20!”

    Soldier: “Sure, buddy.”

Officer: “That’s no way to address an officer! Now let’s try it again!”

Officer: “Soldier. Do you have change for a dollar?”

    Soldier: “No, SIR!”

Little Johnny’s preschool class went on a field trip to the fire station. The firefighter giving the presentation held up a smoke detector and asked the class: “Does anyone know what this is?”

Little Johnny’s hand shot up and the firefighter called on him.

Little Johnny replied: “That’s how Mommy knows supper is ready!”

Tweety just said during the debates(of course this was all a set up for what comes next), that the President will not be able to out smart Robnet during the debates.
All Robney has to do is look toward the President and say, your a nice Guy, a nice Family Man, but you tried, did your best, why not give somebody else a try.
    He says it’s a Killer, a killer!

Then, the British Chick(all pre planned remember) said, that’s the ad that is the most powerful and it is running here in Virginia.

This mist be the new talking point the RNC us pushing, that ad is now getting into the Mainstream!

If it was not so stupid, I would laugh my ass off. And can Tweety stfu? He is an asshole when he goes on Morning Joe!

Tweety has always been off in his Obama analysis——he always describes him from where he sits (and whatever Fineman just told him). I can’t wait to see Willard and President Obama on the same stage—-there will never be a more clear choice. Have zero concerns about any debate involving Obama.

Jovie why do you torture yourself. MoJoe has not changed his schtick since 08. To him, PBO is a detached moron who is over his head (this coming from someone who resigned in disgrace). And Tweety changes positions so much…he might as well be Romney’s brother. I don’t really give a damn what those idiots have to say. They have been blasting the President ever since he became President…and yet here we are, PBO leads Mittens in every poll (including NBC’s).

When I used to tweet….i tweeted Joe saying that it has to be hard that he is around the same age as the President, but he is far less accomplished. He blocked me.

So…he will spout whatever makes his miserable life feel better, and I just choose not to watch.

      • August 7, 2012 at 7:52 am

You should watch! It’s actually funny, every Guest has a script and they say what Joe wants them to.
That is not an opinion Dhiw, it’s Propaganda.
And they fawn over Christie like he is a Greek God!
        It’s a Joke…!

Eugene Robinson, oo, ah, um, um, um, ah, hahahaha, ya know, um, ah ah, ya, and, um, um, ya know….
Then, he finally says something, not at this Time!

Nor at this time what? After all that bumbling, he finally says nit at this time!

Boy, I gotta remember that one, when my Brother the Tea bagger rags on the President I will say to Him- not at this Time!
    Got it!
