A while back, there were pictures of pres Obama from when he was an infant, laying on his tummy to his presidency. I was wondering Lady Chipstick….is there any chance in having that montage of pictorial to really assert pres Obama’s Birthday. Also there is another huge pres Obama type-writer pictorial depiction that I have seen here many times. That would be another one that could be displayed today.

    Are those possible?

PBO is going back to Colorado? Hope it’s as much fun as it was the last time.

    Ahh…..Colorado. 🙂

      • August 4, 2012 at 3:22 pm

Part of me agrees with you. But I think we can see patterns, and the two biggest ones are that PBO and the Dems are being lethal this summer, while Romney and the GOP are back on their heels. And again, the Electoral College is the key, and Tomasky’s math just makes sense. But definitely, fight as if our backs are against the wall, and then crush the opposition utterly. My confidence makes me want to win an overwhelming victory. The Right has to be neutered for a generation.

Anecdotal evidence is limited, but I am in a toss-up state, and you are in a deep blue state. That may account for your being more confidant than I at this point. You would not believe the low information haters I see and hear everyday. I agree with you, I believe PBO will win reelection, but I do not believe it is a given.

And I think the pundits, at least the smarter ones (few though they are) see that this is PBO’s goal on a subconscious level. They’re just in denial that the black guy can pull it off.

I am a little fatigue, but a good one. Nice gathering of celebration of POB’s birthday. A very red city, but some hope. Nice conversation on misinformation about POB’s accomplishments and why certain bills have not moved. One on ones are great.

Also had three lovely young people who have already registered, ready to go, and promised me that they will continue to bring their friends into the action. I will be seeing them in the next three months to follow up for sure.

A great day. Now it is time to quiet my heart, put on the music, light the candles, and quietly celebrate the bd of our beautiful president. I have much to be grateful for at this time, and I do have much to ask for for Nov. 6, 2012. So there is the rest of my evening.

Enjoy your evening in a beautiful way with our POTUS and our beautiful First Lady.

  9. August 4, 2012 at 2:58 pm

That’s an excellent ad!! Here’s one I hope they make … ‘Security Clearance’

BTW, one of the several crucial reasons for the extensive investigation that precedes issuance of a security clearance is to determine if the person can be compromised (aka bribed). For #BainMitt, his personal financial records are likely a trove of compromising information and who knows those already in possession of it – am sure all of you have a few good guesses 😉

Thus, this meme is not a joke ….

“We cannot risk Our National Security to a pathological liar. Is #Mitt Compromised? Audit his IRS returns or no security clearance.”

    • 45 jacquelineoboomer
      August 4, 2012 at 3:05 pm

I’m not sure the President and Commander-in-Chief needs to be granted a security clearance, because all of them are granted on his behalf and through his name, but Romney’s RWNJ campaign won’t know that! Your premise is solid, in any event. We really need to get Willard out of our lives.

      • August 4, 2012 at 3:10 pm

Oh, Jacqueline, everyone most definitely has to go through an extensive background check to have a security clearance. Candidate #BainMitt is not an exception. Only after you become President do you get to mess with the rules – like the way GWB did.

        • 47 jacquelineoboomer
          August 4, 2012 at 3:24 pm

Bobfr – Of course. Foolish me. I was thinking of a scenario that involved any future role MITT would play in our federal government, WHICH WILL NEVER HAPPEN, and, therefore, he won’t mess with any of the rules from the inside as GWB surely did. #FORWARD

  13. August 4, 2012 at 3:24 pm

I am getting increasingly disgusted at our media for thinking it’s OK not to call R-money out on his lies. Supposedly in the interest of “fairness.”

Voters, especially low-information voters too busy raising a family, working multiple jobs, etc. need to know that lying is what R-money does best.

    Today, on R-money’s website:

“President Obama’s lawsuit claiming it is unconstitutional for Ohio to allow servicemen and women extended early voting privileges during the state’s early voting period is an outrage. The brave men and women of our military make tremendous sacrifices to protect and defend our freedoms, and we should do everything we can to protect their fundamental right to vote. I stand with the fifteen military groups that are defending the rights of military voters, and if I’m entrusted to be the commander-in-chief, I’ll work to protect the voting rights of our military, not undermine them.”

He is blatantly and disgustingly lying. Rachel’s show on Thursday was eye-opening for me. She had a two-part segment on how LONG the wait times were to vote in Ohio. One location had 2 voting booths, took over 10 hours to get in to vote. And a**hole R-money feeds his base by claiming that POTUS wants to hinder servicemen from voting. Despicable.

These rat bastards have no shame. They try to skew everthing. Agreed. We MUST defeat Romney.

Another concern I have are the Coalition of African American Pastors and their campaign to persuade AAs not to vote for PBO because of his statements regarding same sex marriage. This Rev Owens has gotten cozy with The Fredrick Douglass Foundation who is a right wing conservative group along with that black right wing pastor out of DC. I don’t recall his name but he actively participates with the tea party and other right wing groups.

I’m AA and I take issue with this approach when there are so many other looming issues in the AA community that needs to be addressed. This exercise just pisses me off.

        • 68 globalcitizenlinda
          August 4, 2012 at 4:46 pm

          I am AA too.

I think that it is important to raise this concern.

However, I also get the feedback that most people I know who support PBO also trust his judgement, fairness and honesty and will listen to him rather that a bunch of self-enriching (and often unfaithful) pastors.

some of the crooked pastors may end up being exposed for who they really are – pests to the community they profess to serve

        • August 4, 2012 at 4:53 pm

Randi Rhodes shared a good tactic for handling right wing people that I think could work with these single issue voters, too. Ask these black pastors exactly what will happen to the African American and needy communities the minute Romney wins? On many fronts?
          1. How will young black people feel after being lifted up in their aspirations and their perception of their standing in the world with the election of the first black President – how will they feel after witnessing the racism of the last four years and then seeing their very extremely qualified and successful President being defeated by an absolute lying loser like Romney? And aided by the black pastors?
          2. Yes, the gay people won’t be able to get married, but how will the black pastors feel when gay people are persecuted even worse than they were before? When their rights to visit their sick partners is taken away? When they are stripped of their rights to equal benefits as federal employees? When they are pushed back into the closet after coming out into the light, as they try to serve their country?
          3. When teen suicides creep up again as kids realize that bullying actually does pay off – after witnessing the GOP win with the help of these black pastors. As gay kids feel unprotected, and kids who are bullied get it much harder?
          4. When poor people and seniors in their neighborhoods bear the full brunt of GOP policies that they’ve promised to enact? Who will the black pastors turn to for help, after they help to remove the only one who’s been working in Washington?

I wish these people could just ask the question: “And then what”, when they put so many lives and futures in jeopardy, just so they can feel morally superior to the President. Their short-sightedness just makes me furious.

Agree, df. I read it about an hour ago. Good job! Also, want to add couple stories. First thing I saw on my FB this morning was a Share from one of my very best friends in northern VA—-the story about the Obama campaign blocking military from voting in OH. I found the link on here and sent it to her in a private message. Haven’t heard a thing. Same thing happened last week and don’t even remember what it was except one of Romney’s lies so I sent her the FACTUAL link. Didn’t hear a thing. 🙂 Second story: Since we have Vonage, we kept our northern VA phone number and have it forwarded to our number here. (That way our friends up there can still do a ‘local’ call.) My phone rang few minutes ago and I saw it said Fairfax. “Is this the Smith household?” “Yes.” “This is the Republicans of Fairfax. We want to know if Mitt Romney can count on your vote in the fall?” “Absolutely not!” “Okay. Thank you.” 🙂 🙂 🙂

This just reeks of sheer desperation. They got nothin and they know it. They are grasping at straws. That’s why Mitt Romney has to splice and dice videos of President Obama to create some meme that everyone should be outraged about. And that’s why the Republicans have to rehash old issues that have already been settled or debunked. Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, Fast and Furious, Solyndra, Birthers, We Did Build It?? Those are the reasons that the American people should vote for Mitt Romney?? Are you kidding me?? We are dealing with rank amateurs. What an embarrassment.

      • August 4, 2012 at 5:06 pm

I just saw one troll leave a comment on a news site, with video of the toast that President Obama made to Queen Elizabeth, when the band started playing the national anthem too soon – the troll was trying to draw some equivalence to Romney’s disastrous foreign policy trip. It’s pretty pathetic when trolls get the details wrong on who was actually to blame for the false start, but they also have to prop up Romney: a candidate whose gaffes offended three nations on highly sensitive matters and could have caused a war that would engage the entire world – simply to pander to his wealthy benefactors.

      • August 4, 2012 at 5:56 pm

Yesterday in a restaurant that had a TV tuned to CNN I saw a crawl headline that said, “Can Clinton Save Obama’s Presidency?” Luckily they had the sound turned off or I would have had to climb up on a chair and change channels. Either that or throw my shoe through it.

My mom is an PBO supporter but I was so proud of her yesterday when she told me about an encounter with a senior while getting her monthly food distribution from the local senior center. She said an woman about 69yrs old was complaining about PBO and my Mom had an answer for everyone of her complaints. She complained that PBO was not doing enough for seniors, I play Randi Rhodes when she is in my car and my Mom told her what PBO has done for seniors, then she said she doesn’t take handouts…..well, my Mom said why are you here getting govt handouts…..this woman tried to tell my Mom this was not “gov”…my Mom asked her what Corporation was doing this? No answer. This woman said, “all AA vote for Obama because he’s black”…My mom told her “ALL AA voted for Bill Clinton and a host of the other white Democratic presidents”….no answer. Obama Celebrates His Birthday by Devastating Romney With New Ad

    By: Jason Easley

What the mainstream media doesn’t talk about is that polling reveals that there are two different campaigns taking place for the presidency in 2012. The national polls show a tight race in the popularity contest, but when the polling is examined on a state by state basis, President Obama has a clear advantage.

Obama is faring well in individual states because his campaign is running ads like this one that are targeting blocs of voters in each state. While the Romney campaign is focused on a national anti-Obama strategy, the president defining his opponent with a variety of targeted statewide ads. The Obama strategy against Romney is a sort of death by a thousand thirty second spots approach.

Perhaps, no other group of voters has as much at stake in 2012 as women, and they are the key to President Obama spending four more birthdays in the White House.

You notice Romney’s blinking at :15 in the ad? And he’s also looking down so it feels like he’s being condescending or belittling the women that are talking in the ad.

Of course, he’s like that for real. The way he lies and lies. No respect for voters.

      • August 4, 2012 at 5:14 pm

I didn’t even notice that blinking – I thought it was a still shot. Good eyes! It does look very condescending – especially with that stupid smirk that he’s always sporting. Ugh!

August 4th, 2012 is President Barack Obama’s 51st birthday. The 44th president of the United States, he is the first ever African-American elected to the highest office in the land. Born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, his father Barack Obama, Sr., originally from Kenya and his mother Stanley Ann Dunham, mostly of English, descent were an interracial couple — which was uncommon at that time. Obama once said, “my father looked nothing like the people around me — that he was black as pitch, my mother white as milk — barely registered in my mind.”

He began his university career at Occidental College in Los Angeles, California, then transferred to Colombia University in New York City. Two years after graduating he began to hone his skills as a community organizer as the director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP) in Chicago.

Obama later attended Harvard Law School where he graduated magna cum laude, which was followed by a stint as a fellow at Chicago Law School, where he continued as a lecturer for 12 years. In 1992 he led a program called Project Vote. His group successfully registered 150,000 of the 400,000 unregistered African-Americans in the city to vote. In 1993 Crain’s Chicago Business named Obama to its list of “40 under Forty” folks most likely to achieve power.

Obama’s election to the presidency came in the midst of an economic collapse and multiple international crises. He is currently running for re-election against Republican Mitt Romney. His tenure has been one of great change, optimism and hope, according to many who have witnessed his historic rise.

why is it that the media often claims PBO’s ads are “brutal” when in fact they are typically re-stating truth

    • August 4, 2012 at 4:59 pm

Because the ‘truth’ is truly brutal reality for the corporate media, #NEWSTAINERS and their owners 🙂

    • August 4, 2012 at 6:00 pm

      It’s not just the MSM.

Thoughtful bloggers like Kevin Drum at Mother Jones are quick to condemn Harry Reid for playing hard ball (aka “ratfucking”).

Dems have a reputation for backing down and being spineless. Now they’re being criticized for calling out lies and media bias.

Shameful, dishonest smearing is one thing (e.g., “Swiftboating”).

But telling the truth or playing politics (whether bluffing or not) is now called “brutal” or “nasty” by the MSM and “ratfucking” by liberal bloggers.

      Give me a break.

  24. 122 carolyn
    August 4, 2012 at 5:10 pm

Truth is brutal to the far right, and they are not used to having truth used in such memorable ways. They are used to spewing lies and having them accepted. I’m interested in the analysis of President Obama’s two prong campaign. That makes a lot of sense. It is not economically or electorally rewarding to spend money in my state, so I am glad they are spending it where it counts.
One more non-activity that verifies to me that what Senator Reid is saying is absolutely true. So far, we have not heard from Tutrle McDonnell in a staged press conference stating his “moral outrage, and shock” at what Senator Reid has done. I suspect he probably knows some of the same material, and has been hoping against hope that Senator Reid would not use it. Sorry Turtle!
Knowing Romney’s personality…..narcissistic/sociopath…..he will not release his taxes, and this was accentuated by Rachel’s expose last night. He hasn’t, he won’t, and so far he’s been able to bluff his way through. I know there is illegality in his returns. I also wonder, who has some of those returns, and when we will find out some of what is in them. Perhaps during the Republican convention? or immediately afterward?

    • August 4, 2012 at 5:24 pm

In all the years I’ve seen Harry Reid work as Majority Leader, he NEVER bluffs. He never holds a vote in the Senate unless he can either win, or even in losing extract some damage from the opposition. He knows what’s in those returns. And I think we will know soon as well.

    • August 4, 2012 at 5:28 pm

Carolyn – if McCain’s camp wasn’t able to keep a lid on the inner workings of McCain/Palin in 2008, then there’s absolutely no way that the secrets in Romney’s 23 years of tax returns was kept secret, either. Someone on TOD surmised yesterday that they think McCain is the leak, and the more I think about it, the more I’m inclined to believe it. Who else would have the goods, and have the motive to want to sink Romney but keep his image snow white pure? It’s got to be McCain – and that’s why we haven’t seen or heard hide nor hair of him or the people closest to that campaign! Maybe Rachel can have them on and ask them, since she’s so fond of both of those two stars from the HBO movie, who were willing to stand by silently while Palin nearly became a heartbeat closer to being POTUS.

That “someone” would have been me, theo:) Late last night I posted that I , of course, have no proof of this thought…but Reid said that if we knew the person that he has this credible info from, that we would all recognize that this person would be a credible source. We wouldn’t know the name of just any guy that may have seen his taxes…or some other big wig in the campaign…but we all all recognize that McCain as the source, would know what’s in those tax filings….that’s why he chose the bimbo, tundra twit. This is McCain’s last stint in the senate…he’s retiring after this time around. He has known Reid for many years and they have been colleagues and friends.I surmised, that in a casual conversation after Romney’s taxes were given to McCain, and McCain chose SP…they had this conversation in passing….they didn’t know at the time that Romney would turn around and run for President four years later….they were just chatting…..you understand? I think that either Reid just SAID that his source was a Bain investor…or the McCain’s really are….they have enough money to do that if they chose. How else would we know a “Bain investor”? We wouldn’t. I don’t think that they’re any love lost between McCain and Romney…these are just my thoughts…I think about these things late at night…until I can create a scenario that makes sense in my head…because, like everyone else….we’re curious. This is what I came up with….but it sure makes sense to me!

BY the way..It;s not like McCain is unfamiliar with being a “leaker”..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

For those of you too young to remember this…you should read this…..it will sound eerily familiar. From this Wiki entry:

A number of press reports came out during the Ethics Committee’s work that purported to reveal aspects of the investigations.[45] Chair Heflin was upset by the leaks and two investigations into them were held, one by the General Accounting Office acting on behalf of the committee and one by the Senate’s Temporary Special Independent Counsel.[45][62] Neither report reached a conclusive finding or directly implicated anyone in the leaks.[62] The special counsel report, released in 1992, ascribed partisanship as the motive for the leaks and said they were intended to hurt DeConcini, Riegle, and Cranston; it also gave an inference that McCain and his staff were responsible for key leaks.[45][62]
DeConcini later charged that McCain had leaked to the press sensitive information about the investigation that came from some of the closed proceedings of the Ethics Committee.[7] McCain denied doing so under oath, although several press reports concluded that McCain had been one of the main leakers during that time.[7][62] The GAO investigator later said, “There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that McCain made those leaks.”[45] Vice chair Rudman stated in his 1996 autobiography that McCain and his staff were responsible for some of the leaks,[62] but later repudiated the assertion.[45]

    Obama Cares–Yes, He Does!

    By Deborah Montesano

When Congress passed the Affordable Care Act in 2010, Republicans had what they thought was a brilliant idea. Re-label the program Obamacare and let it hang like an albatross around the President’s neck.

The President has used the term increasingly in the past several months, so other Democrats have taken to using it in a manifestly positive way as well–speakers who introduce Obama at campaign stops, Vice President Joe Biden when he sends out fundraising appeals, and the re-election campaign’s online store, which sells “I Like Obamacare” t-shirts, bumper stickers, and buttons.

According to the New York Times, the term was first coined by–guess who? None other than Mitt Romney himself.

Such an intelligent man, our PBO is, I heard some complaining that The President should be addressing other things than health care when he did. He knew the time to do it was when he did, down the road in his term, might not have happened since we have seen how strong the push by Repugs to do anything for the greater good of this country. So many now on board with his dicision and success with ACA, YES he does care!

What Romney’s Taxes Tell Us About The Tax Code

    By Mark Schmitt

There are two important points about the tax system that Romney’s taxes, even what we already know about them, reveal: The first is that the creation of tax-deferred accounts can take huge amounts of investment income out of the tax system entirely. A major thrust of Republican tax policy has been to expand the number of opportunities to put money – and the income it generates — into accounts that fall outside the scope of taxation. These include various forms of IRAs, health savings accounts, education savings accounts, and others. Many of them benefit the middle class, although they provide little value for low-income workers. But as we see from the Romney example, they can provide huge benefits to the wealthy. Any serious tax reform should aim to reduce the number and scope of these accounts in order to bring as much income as possible under the purview of the tax system and keep rates as low as possible.

And second, Romney’s taxes reveal how misleading just looking at the “rate” paid by Romney or any other wealthy person really is. When we eventually see the returns, we won’t know what percentage of Romney’s income he pays in taxes because we aren’t seeing all of his income – some large amount of it is flowing through this IRA. Again, that’s not a Romney problem; it’s an example of how ordinary high-end tax practices make it difficult to even judge whether the system is fair or equitable.

Yes some of us saw the show last night, and they’re actually repeating the show on MSNBC right now. But for those who didn’t get to see it, you can watch them here.

In the first segment, Rachel highlights Romney’s refusal to release his tax returns while dodging the issue with the press, the MSM’s focus on Harry Reid while enabling Mitt, and Romney’s lying about what was actually in his past tax returns.

In the second segment, Rachel points out Romney’s hypocritical insistence that his opponents (and even spouses in one case), release their taxes and promising to release his returns once they released theirs. But when they did, he still failed to released his returns.

From an AP story on the Prez’s BDAY

Republicans offered tongue-in-cheek birthday greetings. The Republican National Committee delivered a birthday cake to their counterparts at the Democratic National Committee on Friday featuring a picture of a smiling Obama next to the words, “You didn’t bake this.”

The inscription was a reference to a line from an Obama speech last month in which he said, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.” Romney has seized upon the line to question Obama’s commitment to small business while Obama and Democrats have said the quote was taken out of context.

DNC officials promptly sent the cake back to RNC headquarters, along with a copy of a recent report by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center that found that Romney’s tax proposal would give millionaires a broad tax cut at the expense of tax breaks enjoyed by many middle-class families. Romney’s team has disputed the study, saying his tax plan would benefit all Americans.

After getting the canvassers on the road, I made calls. 64 calls / 6 conversations. Think everyone was out enjoying the beautiful weather. Two calls really stuck with me.

Call #1: 60yr D female. Said she’s a strongly supports, however, she sounded kind of strange. Asked what were her key issues — “unemployment” & “Health care.” Engaged her in conversation, turns out she was downsized two weeks ago, first time in her life that she has been without a job. She is afraid that at her age, she may not find another job. She’s thankful that PBO is in the White House…

Call #2: 67yr R female. Said, with embarrassment in her voice, she was voting for Romney. Asked why she supported him, said she didn’t really but was a Republican and “had to” vote for him. Informed her that general election was “open” and she could vote for anyone she chose. She responded “you mean I could have voted for him in 2008?” she then went on to tell me all of the things she liked about PBO. #1 for her is health care. She is on a lot of meds and got a rebate check because of the donut hole. It amazed me that here was a person that is paying attention to the issues, but had no idea about the basic fundamentals of casting a vote in the general election.

Alycee, It is amazing, isn’t it? I’ve had to explain that to quite a few people. The general election is “open” so you can cross party lines to vote. Sounds like you got two more to MOVE FORWARD!! Imagine if every PBO supporter got 2 more! This would over!!

Actually, I was amazed, but NOT. There are still some areas of my county where the residents believe that their trash won’t be picked up if they are registered anything other than repub. DelCo has gone blue every Presidential since ’92, yet the county council is all repub, and most of the municipal gov’ts are repub…

Actually, I only got one (caller #2); caller #1 was already in the President’s column — her “sounding strange” was personal (job loss), not a reflection of her feelings about the President.

I’m curious Alycee, was the republican lady a ‘newer’ American despite her age? I find America’s formal designation of republican/democrat confining and remember asking here if you were constrained to vote your affiliation in the privacy of the booth. I wonder how many other voters feel as this woman does that they ‘had to’ vote for someone who does not currently share their ideals because of their previous political leanings?

VC, there are LOTS of Americans who really just don’t understand the electoral process — like the difference between a primary and a general election. In a primary election, yes, you do have to vote your party affiliation. But in a general election, you can vote for whoever you want.

So, as Alycee’s and Sharejr’s experiences show, you guys have to educate on the basics, as well as on the current facts neglected by the media! You can’t assume knowledge or leave any stones unturned. The good thing from my vantage point is that TODobots know where to find relevant info.

In my world you register to vote – no party or “independent” mentioned anywhere. When I first studied the US system I assumed if you were registered dem or rep you had to vote for the party of your registration – so I can imagine other folks thinking that is the case. Took me a long time to fully understand the system – not sure I do understand all the angles – primary voting still has some puzzles for me.

Exactly my point, 99ts! I could have written what you’ve said word for word. In fact, I am still puzzled by a lot of it, not the least of which is how much leeway politicians seem to have to say and do whatever without interim consequences. Everything seems to wait til the NEXT election when memories have been deadened or their charms and money overwhelm.

    • August 4, 2012 at 8:43 pm

WOW! that poor woman. I feel so bad for her.

    • August 4, 2012 at 9:36 pm

I wonder if some “helpful” person once told her that as a Repub, she had to vote for the Repub in the General? Seems strange for her to dream that up on her own…

Need to know: If this were a social media campaign and not an election (there is still a difference), the outcome wouldn’t even be close. As if you needed more proof of the Romney team’s relative haplessness in that arena, an analysis commissioned by BusinessWeek found that comedian Rob Delaney @robdelaney) is the single most effective “promoter” of @MittRomney: Of all the most popular mentions of Romney on Twitter, 44 percent come from Delaney … who is not exactly a fan. Sample Tweet: “‘My other car is a dancing horse.'” – bumper sticker on Mitt Romney’s limo.”

And his app is junk, too:)

This is one of the reasons I’m not fond of themes that set out to bash Mitt on Twitter. IMO they grossly inflate the number of mentions he gets. It’s bad enough he is credited when we mention him in passing.

Sooo what are the odds that little old Obama loving me would just happen to be talking to the tea baggers (albeit friendly) who bought my house & living on my lot til I move next friday… get their REFUND Check from their Health Ins company???? What.Are.The.Odds. So woohoo I explained to her that was “ObamaCares” as it is LAW that when your Insurance company doesn’t spend at least 80% of your $$ on your care, they have to refund the difference to you. So she says: “Well its not a big check” 😉 So I say: “Thats awesome, that means they’re spending most of your money on your care & not their admin costs…. thank goodness for the Health Care Law- which forces them to do so… she admitted we Alll hate Insurance companies :). Anyhoo, she at least smiled- because living in my backyard in their trailer for a month has proven to them that not all of us are planning to enslave them on behalf of President Obama 😉

🙂 Life is funny that way sometimes, sherijr…:) Maybe you can talk some more sense before you finally leave for good…people vote with their pocketbooks, and I don’t care how small the check was, she wouldn’t have gotten a check at all were it not for this law….funny how things happen. I know that others that got these checks may now give this President a second look if they were not already inclined. He is putting their hard earned money back in their pockets:)

agree so much df… what is rather amazing is that I was there for her to open it and able to explain why she was getting it- because I doubt anyone else would have known to tell her.. being as they who are anti-Obama are being fed such utter BS, they probably never hear the facts/truth. And they sort of like me, she & her husband because I joke w/ them a lot about me overstaying my welcome- we closed on the house here 2 wks ago, but my house in MD still hasn’t settled.. anyway, am just thrilled that she opened it when she did & I was able to toot my President’s horn 🙂

Well…maybe I was wrong about my thoughts about McCain and Reid….or maybe NOT….

It’s true that Harry Reid can be a bit blunt, but when you look at his history of insulting people, he’s always completely correct. He said George W. Bush was a loser. Well, if he were not a loser, he’d be introducing Romney at the Republican convention just as Bill Clinton intends to do for Obama at the Democratic convention. Reid called Bill Frist “amateurish” in his handling of the Senate. Who can dispute that Frist was over his head as majority leader? Back when Alan Greenspan was practically sainted, Harry Reid called him “one of the biggest political hacks” in Washington. Boy howdy, was he ever proven correct about that one! Five years ago, Reid said that Mitt Romney is “kind of a joke” and called the chairman of the Joint Chiefs “incompetent.” I see no reason to revise those remarks today. As for saying that he “can’t stand John McCain,” it’s no secret that John McCain has few friends in the Senate.

Maybe payback is just a bitch:)

Just came back from a great Birthday Party for PBO. We registered voters, knocked on doors and made phone calls! Then we called it a day, and had THE BIGGEST BIRTHDAY PARTY in his honor!!

Menu: Hot dogs & hamburgers (beef, turkey, veggie), barbecue ribs, grilled fish (salmon, flounder), broccoli salad, potato salad, shrimp salad, green tossed salad, tuna salad, fresh fruit salad, I think there may have also baked beans, and corn on the cob. Of course, assorted sodas, water and fruit punch.

Desserts: Obama cookies, cupcakes, sliced watermelons, cantaloupe, strawberries, grapes, banana pudding, and the absolute best chocolate birthday cake for President Obama. Of course we sang “Happy Birthday Mr President” and then we sang it “STEVIE STYLE!”

OBAMA all the way, baby! Other Obama team offices were invited also. This office has a very good ‘vibe’ Always welcoming, helpful, cheerful. They always have a snack, a piece of fruit or a bottle of water for canvassers. They treat the office like home and every one as house guests.

When PBO won in 2008, we had the best party!! We projected the returns on a big movie screen at a local restaurant and turned that place out!! It was a night to remember for the ages. People had flags, and were hugging and crying!! It was great.

Alycee, seriously, for any volunteers who didn’t want to or were physically unable to call or walk the neighborhoods to knock on doors, we’ve asked what else they could do. If they didn’t have an idea, we always suggest that they can either donate food or talk with local merchants to get it donated. That’s how we do it. You are out in Delaware county, right? Try it, you never know….

The political scientist Larry Bartels has found (and measured) that members of Congress respond much more strongly to the preferences of their affluent constituents than their poor ones. And for affluent people, there is essentially no recession. Unemployment for workers with a bachelors degree is 4 percent — boom times. Unemployment is also unusually low in the Washington, D.C., area, owing to our economy’s reliance on federal spending, which has not had to impose the punishing austerity of so many state and local governments.
I live in a Washington neighborhood almost entirely filled with college-educated professionals, and it occurred to me not long ago that, when my children grow up, they’ll have no personal memory of having lived through the greatest economic crisis in eighty years. It is more akin to a famine in Africa. For millions and millions of Americans, the economic crisis is the worst event of their lives. They have lost jobs, homes, health insurance, opportunities for their children, seen their skills deteriorate, and lost their sense of self-worth. But from the perspective of those in a position to alleviate their suffering, the crisis is merely a sad and distant tragedy.

Short version…lawmakers and the players in Washington are out of touch with the pains of everyday Americans….I would argue, they have been for a very long time.

Hey folks! Happy Saturday from Albuquerque! HOT but nice here! Today is my son’s 11th birthday, he shares it with PBO! So we SHOULD be celebrating but he got the opportunity for a SLEEPOVER with a good friend, so…Well, it is HIS birthday! We’ll celebrate as a family later, of course.
We’re being assaulted here with a cravenly false ad from the chamber of CON-merce about the stimulus being a failure and all the $$ is missing or went to political friends. THE BS AD INFURIATES ME! I WANT to see the lies refuted, but then it occurred to me: We’re Americans the people with the SHORTEST memories and attention span EVER. The lies could easily be dispelled with all of the success stories, projects and employment when it was needed so desparately, but answering perpetuates the argument about something that was 2+ years ago. It is a crappy ad and probably MOSTLY believed by RW-MORONS that will never change anyway. But as I said, it irritates me that such blatant misinformation just goes on and on and on….

Wouldn’t it be great if King’s loss in Iowa was due to his defense of dog fighting and animal cruelty? There IS a connection from animal cruelty to people cruelty…wake up IOWA!!!!

“No matter how King may try to justify his outrageous comments, the fact remains that he has repeatedly voted to defend animal cruelty,” said local pet owner Susan Brehm-Stecher. “There’s no justification for voting to block legislation that could end the barbarism of dogfighting. If Steve King continues to defend animal cruelty, there’s no doubt in my mind that animal lovers like me will ensure his defeat in November.”

Just this week, Rep. King made national news after defending his efforts to defeat an amendment that would have made it a crime for an individual to attend or bring a child to a dogfight. According to the Humane Society, “There’s no federal lawmaker who has worked harder to thwart the enactment of anti-dogfighting legislation than Steve King.”

Rep. King is being targeted by the CREDO SuperPAC’s “Take Down the Tea Party Ten” campaign because he champions extremist Tea Party values on a variety of issues, including his repeated attempts to block common sense solutions to crack down on dogfighting.

TALLAHASSEE — The U.S. government wants to block Florida from resuming its purge of suspected noncitizens from the voter rolls, saying it would violate federal law.

The Justice Department filed papers in U.S. District Court in Tampa accusing the state of ignoring a requirement that it first obtain approval for such action because five Florida counties are subject to federal pre-clearance of changes in voting procedures: Hillsborough, Collier, Hardee, Hendry and Monroe.

The removal of noncitizens in a presidential election year has mushroomed into a major controversy, with Democrats and left-leaning voter advocacy groups accusing Gov. Rick Scott and the Republican Party of using the purge to suppress voter turnout in a state widely seen as a must-win for both presidential candidates.

Chips…somehow you should highlight this…really, really wonderful post of reasons why they will be voting for this President in 2012

      ************************************************************** Add to blogroll?????

      Just one example:

      1. I’ll vote for Obama because I like the idea that Wall Street has soured on the president. It tells me they didn’t get from him what they wanted and more importantly, because they’re withholding their support, he won’t be obligated to them. Besides, I have a problem with a group of grown men who have the nerve to feel sensitive after nearly toppling the entire economy.

Like the corporations that park their profits (profits they earned in America, from Americans) offshore because they want to be unregulated and untaxed, they’re holding the nation hostage. I’ll vote for Obama because I don’t want to pay the ransom.

      From: CNN Money

Companies seek tax break for overseas profits

The tax holiday would lower the corporate tax rate to 5.25% for big companies such as the bill’s proponents — including Google, Oracle and Cisco — if they move their overseas profits to the United States.
Note: Generally, the U.S. corporate tax rate stands at 35%. I challenge anyone to name a corporation that pays 35% after all the tax cuts, tax credits, loopholes, deductions and subsidies. Costs are rising to do offshore business. Corporations are people…let them behave like all other American people and pay their taxes!
If you believe Obama’s policies are crippling, how do you account for the fact that the stock market is at an all-time high and corporations are enjoying greater profits than in decades?
