Good afternoon, Alycee. How are you and how does the grandson feel about heading back to school soon while the campaign is heating up?

He’s not thrilled. He’s even less thrilled with Southwest Airlines as they no longer fly between Providence & Philly. He wants to attend a rally again this cycle and GrandĆ©e is too cheap to spring for a ticket on USAir…

His Mom is going to take him door knocking in RI; hopefully, that will help him feel more a part of the campaign this time!

‘He wants to attend a rally again this cycle’
Good for him! Wish he could hook up with a few who have the chance to be involved and don’t use it, so that he could set them straight. Who knows, he might be a future politician of the Pres O kind.

The total fail of #BainMitt and his entire campaign to enter the 21st Century is obvious every day … they are completely oblivious to how effortless it is to expose every nuance, not just every blatant lie … and yet they are so pathologically delusional they truly inhabit an alternate, narcissistic, detached from reality, universe …

Oh – you definitely have to get on twitter! In addition to being a great source of news as it happens (taken with a pinch of salt at times), it’s also very addictive. You get the hang of it very quickly, and it’s quite satisfying responding to lies and nonsense right on the fly.

Have you noticed that whether it’s Michelle or PBO, people line up or cluster around, waiting patiently for their hug or handshake. The gap between the reality and myth of their ability to connect constant amazes me.

    • August 1, 2012 at 3:56 pm

That ‘myth’ resides in a small number of very, very small minds and the corporate #NEWSTAINERS who get paid to spout that myth šŸ™‚

      August 1, 2012 at 5:10 pm

and I just saw the crowd pic in Mansfield, Oh. for PBO—–wow—huge! And you’re right, everyone is always so thrilled, I mean THRILLED, to get to meet and greet both Obamas. No one ever looks that happy about Willard; in fact, more of a look like ‘I’m just here ’cause I have unresolved hate issues.’

PBO will drip, drip, drip him into submission. Then in a panic, Mittiful will self-implode over the torture of the imagined waterboard effect. PBO is Zorro….. you never even know you’ve been cut…..that is, until you’re standing there naked, all exposed with your clothes in ribbons in a heap at your feet.

Twitter launched a new tool Wednesday to analyze voter sentiment through tweets. Twitter compared the new tracking index to an approval rating that will provide a daily update on Twitter users’ response to the candidates.Ā

Twitter’s first result on Wednesday puts President Obama ahead of Mitt Romney in positive feelings among users.
The Twitter Political Index will provide “a daily measurement of Twitter users’ feelings towards the candidates as expressed in nearly two million Tweets each week,” according to a blog post from Twitter.

Possibly! Might be a good idea, to spread nice thoughts on this Site daily!

      • August 1, 2012 at 4:40 pm

Yep. They’ll flood twitter with paid trolls to up their count. This is as valid a measure of sentiment as Dancing with the Stars when all the Palin people voted over and over again for Bristol.

          August 1, 2012 at 5:03 pm

Not paid trolls alone. Remember folks, many of the missionary participants of the Mormon Temple are being used to canvass, knock on doors, make phone calls and are also bused from area to area wherever Romney speaks to help pump up the crowd. So now with this twitter devise, the missionary flock will be used here too.

I just read the poll report of the President’s visit at the fudge shop.

Obama: “Malia and Sasha left me for the summer.”

    Lia: “Uh-oh.”

Obama: “They’re off at camp. And I don’t want them to forget me so I was thinking about putting a little care package together. What do you think?”

LaDonna Secrist, owner: “Do you have a place to keep it cool?”

Obama: “Yeah, well, I’ll have to get it back to the plane, but once I get to the plane it’ll be OK.”

    —————

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    • August 1, 2012 at 4:24 pm

I know that for Malia and Sasha, this would just be a care package from their Dad, but how awesome that the President of the United States is shopping in a sweet shop for care package contents for his little girls (all the while navigating control of the world)! So sweet – my tooth hurts just thinking about it. šŸ™‚ they’re so real.

of course, I can hear Limbaugh now, “The blatant hypocrisy of the Obama’s. Sure Michelle is out there telling everyone that she has the right to order what your children while eat, but they give their children all sorts of fattening stuff. I am sure they even allow, in fact force the girls to eat fried chicken and watermelon.”

Another version – “They’re off at camp. And I don’t want them to forget me so I was thinking about putting a little care package together. What do you think?”

      from the pool report….

LaDonna Secrist, the owner: “Do you have a place to keep it cool?”

Obama: “Yeah, well, I’ll have to get it back to the plane, but once I get to the plane it’ll be OK.”

Secrist asks Potus to try the fudge. She squeezes a bit onto his finger. He eats it.

Obama: “That’s some amazing chocolate right there. In case you’re wondering, that’s premium chocolate. It tastes great.”

Obama: “I didn’t realize I’d get this display of how this chocolate is made.”

Secrist explains how the chocolate is made but the conversation was inaudible to your pool.

The president began looking over the merchandise and picked out a box of chocolate for Michelle as the pool was exiting.

Via Wall Street Journal reporter Laura Meckler, with an assist from Reid Epstein.

That is so sweet of President Obama. It reminded me tho of the story my husband tells about when he was away with the Nat’l Guard and he begged his mom to not send cookies. But she was determined to send her love. And he would just groan when at mail time they would announce his name real loud and say, “Come get another package of chocolate chip cookies from your mommy.” All the guys would tease him mercilessly. And then they helped themselves to the tasty homemade treats.

I’m still bitter over that whole Kendrick Meek nonsense, when Democrats threw him under the bus in favour of Crist, who refused to even commit to caucusing with Democrats. He was, at best, going to be a Blue Dog – versus Meek, who was a staunch Democrat. I was really disappointed in that whole fiasco.

If Crist became a Democrat, it would only be a matter of time before people complained about his Blue Dog ways.

Randi just explained that the money that is in off shore tax havens…if that was brought back and TAXED..we could end the US debt…IN ONE DAY! $16 trillion…this is from JUST CASH!

    • 86 desertflower
      August 1, 2012 at 4:59 pm

Correction…$21 trillion! With no austerity measures! Just bring that hidden money back, and TAX IT! Poof! Debt gone. Romney VALUES these people that do this with their money…he thinks they are smart…that means that the other 98% of us, are STUPID. When they tell you who they are, LISTEN TO THEM!

    • 87 Bill
      August 1, 2012 at 5:16 pm

I think she is incorrect The total amount in offshore tax havens for the world is estimated at $21 trillion. That amount includes money from around the world, not just Americans. CBS has estimated the US loses approximately $100 billion in tax revenues per year due to offshore accounts, still a significant amount.

      • 88 desertflower
        August 1, 2012 at 5:31 pm

Yes…I think that she said that the amount of ALL the worldwide money in tax havens is $21 Trillion…this wasn’t just Americans. Sorry if I was convoluted with that statement:)

    • August 1, 2012 at 5:34 pm

df & Bill, it’s a big deal irrespective of whether Randi incorrectly cited global participation in tax havens or just the portion that US citizens contribute. It’s likely the IRS and other Federal agencies have an accurate estimate of the amount of cash and cash equivalencies US citizens have in offshore accounts. Changing the tax code to make that practice prohibitively expensive plus taxing capital gains as earned income plus micro-taxing every stock (or equivalent) trade would likely reduce our deficit rapidly. Those would all be legitimate taxes in an equitable society. The Kochs, Romneys, Adelsons, etc., know that that is what they are going to have to fight harder than ever when #PBO is re-elected and we provide him a real Congress.

  26. 91 Obama Grandmama
    August 1, 2012 at 5:06 pm

As positive as it looks for us lately I must say I still think it will be a close race. There are some that are blind and deaf to the truth. I just came from my Art Guild and hear what the Repubs there are saying. They think Obama is going to tax them. That our economy is getting worse and the only way out is to elect Romney who has been mistreated by the press.

Those of us on Obama’s side are unable to convince the other side with any arguments or facts. The voter ID law came up and I sited reasons why it was not a good thing. No matter what I said this lady said they need a very strict ID law and was glad many people would not be able to vote. The GOP supporters there were convinced the illegals were voting and that is why Obama won.

It depresses me so that I feel like not participating in Guild. I live in the country and that is the mindset. That is what they have always believed and will continue to believe. I think a calamity has to personally affect them before they will change their thinking. I was thinking I could make inroads with them but we decided to just agree to disagree. Someone that had not been there for a long time came back today and revigorated the negative argument against PBO.

I am so grateful I have this refuge to come too. I am convinced we have to be sure the votes are not suppressed and they are counted correctly. If the other side had a truly good candidate this would be an even harder race. I have convinced a couple of people over time about PBO’s programs so it is not all lost and we are split about half and half in our group.

      August 1, 2012 at 5:45 pm

Obama Grandmama. I know that sounds really hard but don’t be discourage, Work with the folks who think like you do. You all can keep each other discouraged. Some ‘hard-headed’ people, like the lady who was glad the Voter ID laws would keep people from voting, will wear you down, but only if you let them.

Don’t let them. Sometimes, when a person says something that outrageous, I just look at them and say “Wow! wow…. you really mean that, don’t you? Wow.” And then I either change the subject or walk away, but always with a smile on my face.

Maybe you’ll leave your guild or maybe you will stay, but whatever you do, DON’T LET IGNORANT PEOPLE STEAL YOUR JOY!!!

Simple as that. Keep hanging out here for the good vibes!! Peace! ~~ OBAMA/BiDEN 2012 ~~

    • 93 jackiegrumbacher
      August 1, 2012 at 5:51 pm

OG, you will never convince these people–never. They will vote for R-money or a ham sandwich with an R after its name and that will not listen to anything positive you have to say about PBO. If they could hear themselves talking about voter ID, they would recognize the racism of their comments, so they blind themselves to truth. We need to focus on the ones who can be convinced and most of all, we have to get out the Democratic vote in larger than ever numbers. The president said at the beginning that it would be close, but he would win. I believe him. By the way, I live in the country also, but I have found many gems of progressive thinking even in the red countryside.

    • August 1, 2012 at 6:20 pm

The problem with these delusional people is that even when the evidence stares them in the face (i.e. global recession of 2007), they still refuse to believe that the GOP policies are to blame. They refuse to believe that GOP actions are the cause of the massive deficit. They refuse to take any form of accountability or blame for any of it. As their children can’t afford to go to college, or find decent jobs or relate to people with any level of diversity – they blame someone else. They are a lost cause. Even if hard times befall them, they still won’t let their eyes see the truth. They’re exhausting. And we can use our energy in so many better places.

Driving into work today, I saw someone drive into the parking garage with a Romney bumper sticker, and another one that had one of those anti-Obama phrases for simpletons. He was driving what had to be a 20 year old beat up clunker. I just shook my head and wondered what on earth he thinks Romney will do for him – except part him from $500 per year to pay for tax cuts for the rich. There are just some people who cannot see the truth.

did you consider reminding the lady who was a strong supporter of voter suppression that the same people denying racial minorities, young people, and others their right to vote are of the same mindset as those who denied women the right to vote?

    • 96 LaDLove
      August 1, 2012 at 7:10 pm

Obama Grandmama — Do not despair. I know EXACTLY how you feel because I’ve had the same ups and downs since PBO decided to run. But, there are 2 things I try to hold onto. First, during an interview candidate Obama had with an editorial board early in his campaign, he stated that Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of American politics in a way that Clinton and Nixon had not. And that was his goal too; to re-set the arc of America.

The second was a blog that I read about a week ago (referred by TOD — of course), where a poster stated that it almost didn’t matter if PBO was reelected or not. If he was, then America would be very lucky because he could continue his agenda and we could continue to be the audience of intellect and grace for 4 more years. If he wasn’t, then he faced an immediate future of being healthier, wealthier, with more time to devote to family, writing and deciding which of the opportunities offered by the world he would pursue. PBO has already bent that arc, and everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) has seen it. Some will deny it til their dying day. But it’s in the collective memory already. He is the new cannon already. That arc is bent and you can’t unring that bell!!

So, let’s keep working — hard– for PBO’s reelection, knowing that whatever happens, reset is already in play

    • August 1, 2012 at 7:40 pm

I’m at the point of replying, “You know, I think maybe this voter ID stuff has some validity. I just read about ANOTHER Texas Republican caught in a voter fraud scheme. Voter fraud rarely happens but when it does, those Republicans are always behind it!”

Well that guy, I don’t know his name is like the guy from NBC. Both have reported accurately before. They both speak the language. Richard Angle, from NBC, I mean.

TeaNN USA is Fox like, but CNNI is still semi-OK. But I will deffer to you for you know more and I have come to heed your version of things. I just thought I add a tad of what I had heard.

          • August 1, 2012 at 7:07 pm

Oh, Nena, you are correct, and we do pay attention to Richard. Given the nature of the attack on the security HQ meeting in Damascus, we will not have an official statement of Assad’s status from the US or any of our allies. I had to chuckle at the timing of SecDef Panetta’s comment 2 days ago that Assad better get out quickly & the photo of #PBO with the Louisville slugger … since they both have a very good idea of exactly what Assad’s status is.

One interesting comment was made an hour ago by a Syrian upon hearing what may have been a statement by Assad ‘no video, soon no voice’ – of course, no one knows if the ‘voice’ was his šŸ™‚

What matters is that he’s lost Aleppo, in any event šŸ™‚

I love Nancy Pelosi. By the way, how come no reporter has asked Boehner to explain what happened to the 98% he claimed to have won when sequestration was made part of the deal that saved the country from default? I will never forget how the GOP, the media, and the emoprogs, all chimed in to say that Boehner won and President Obama “caved,” after the deal that saved the country from defaulting was agreed to. Now look who is crying.

Crowley on TeaNN was busy questioning Stephanie Cutter about the econ with regards to the Poll out today. Romney Flops in Europe
By Sebastian Fischer and Christina Hebel
    http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/missteps-abound-during-mitt-romney-s-europe-trip-a-847421.html

He’s only been abroad for a week, but the Palestinians are accusing him of racism, the Brits are annoyed and Polish union leaders don’t like him.

In the end, Mitt Romney tried to find something positive to say about his European adventure. He said an important lesson he had learned is that “rejection of one kind or another is going to be an important part of everyone’s life.”

The remark didn’t come after the Republican presidential candidate’s snafu-filled European tour over the past week. He made it after spending two years as a missionary for the Mormon Church in France in the 1960s, according to his biographers Michael Kranish and Scott Helman in their recent book “The Real Romney”. He only managed to convert 10 to 20 people during that time.

Priorities begins reserving $30 million in fall time
By MAGGIE HABERMAN | 8/1/12 4:10 PM EDT
Prorities USA Action, the pro-President Barack Obama super PAC, is making ad reservations for the fall to the tune of $30 million in broadcast and cable time in six key swing states, a source familiar with the buy confirmed to POLITICO.

The buy, which was first reported by The Washington Post, is in Iowa, Florida, Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, enabled by a substantial uptick in donations and pledges, according to sources. The Pennsylvania time is only for October, given that the state increasingly looks less in play in public polling. Priorities has been on the air there with ads attacking Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital experience for weeks.

The two campaigns aren’t on the air there right now, according to NBC’s “First Read”. Priorities also is on air with Spanish-language ads in Colorado, Florida and Nevada in a joint buy with SEIU.

The group is still outgunned by the outside groups on the right, such as Restore Our Future and American Crossroads, which have raised substantially more. But a concern had been getting blocked out of fall ad time — and lower rates — by other groups that had raised more till now, and this goes a ways toward dealing with that.Ā

  38. August 1, 2012 at 5:59 pm

Shelley Berkley, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Nevada, is out today with a new Spanish-language ad.

“With their opposition to the DREAM Act, Dean Heller and Republicans want to go back to deporting undocumented students.Ā And Heller and Republicans voted against Pell Grants … that make a college education possible for working families,” the ad says, according to an English translation. “Shelley Berkley and the Democrats expanded Pell Grants.Ā And they reformed the system to keep student loan interest rates down. Because they know the road to a good job begins with education.”

Hispanic voters make up a big share of the Nevada electorate — and for Berkley, who’s facing a House ethics investigation, shoring up support among that demographic will help give her an advantage in what looks like a very close race.

Wonder how this will play in Iowa? Other states that benefit from their wind farms…

But for now, according to committee sources, Republicans who had favored the credit believed that they needed to unite against it for Mr. Romney’s sake.

President Obama’s re-election campaign has been using Mr. Romney’s announcement to hammer him in the swing state of Iowa, where wind power is a growing industry. Conservatives, however, have praised his stand for fiscal rectitude and against what some say is corporate welfare.

    • August 1, 2012 at 6:56 pm

Sarah Palin: Chick-Fil-A President Getting ‘Crucified,’ Boycott Has ‘Chilling Effect’ On First Amendment

Yea yea, the first Amendment is under attack.

    —————————–

I had to go back to find an article on their outrage about the Dixie Chicks a few years ago…I remember it very well, they received many death threats. ”The Dixie Chicks have said they fear for their lives following the backlash”

The Republican party was involved as well.

So how about THEIR first Amendment rights?

Phone calls originating from Republican Party headquarters in Washington went out to country stations, urging them to remove the Chicks from their playlists. The ā€˜alternative concert’ [to the Dixie Chicks’ tour opener] is actually the work of the South Carolina Republican Party and party officials are helping promote the concert. We received a call from ā€˜Gallagher’s Army,’ urging us to support the alternative concert. Caller ID backtraced the call to South Carolina GOP headquarters.”

Chain radio stations were quick to dump the Chicks because their parent companies (Clear Channel, Viacom, et al) have pressing business in the nation’s capitol and they want help from the Republican Party.

The first amendment prohibits government from interfering with the individual’s freedom of speech, but the Amendment does not apply to individuals or businesses. Chick-fil-a is just now infiltrating Illinois, but years ago we drove thru there for lunch when we were on a trip on the recommendation of a friend who had moved to our area from the south—-she really missed those chick sands. So we were curious about what we were missing out on. Alot of deep fried fatty stuff, as it turns out——AND a Bible verse in our take out bag! That was a real shocker. I went, “What in the world????” Puh-lease. Just got back from seeing First Lady Michelle Obama and WOW – just WOW! She is so beautiful, so powerful, so inspiring, so warm, so REAL! Aside from her physical beauty (absolute most gorgeous complexion I think I’ve ever seen), her way of connecting with people is so impressive. I’m trying to remember all the wonderful things she said and will write them down as they come back to me, but 2 things off the top of my head – talking about how our President is no “hypothetical” and how he IS the American Dream realized and with so much at stake that he knows firsthand about how important it is that our children have that hope.

She also was talking about college loan debt and musing about when she and the President were so young and “so in love” – and then said
“and we still are” – and gave this adorable/beautiful smile.

How anyone could not fall madly in love with our President and First Lady is just beyond me.

Totally agree 4morefor44. That “horserace” stuff is so naive. The MSM and its owners would be happy as pie with a Romney landslide. MSM ratings and viewership (not to mention credibilty) are all down, yet they continue to spew anti-PBO propaganda undeterred. MSM is owned by corporations that favor the GOP’s anti-tax/anti-regulation policies, and as a result we are force fed anti-PBO propaganda, the GOP is never to blame for anything (like intentionally sabotaging the economic recovery or blatantly attempting to steal the election by denying people the right to vote) and our favorite media personalities twist themselves into pretzels to spin every story as “bad news for PBO”. The MSM has betrayed this country. Imagine how different our political climate would be if the MSM would just report the TRUTH and FACTS instead of propaganda and spin. We are blessed to have PBO. He is the only politician that has the charisma, intellect and fundraising prowess to effectively combat the MSM/Citizens United cabal that threatens our democracy.

President Barack Obama has signed a so-called “intelligence finding” authorizing covert aid to the Syrian rebels seeking to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government , NBC News has confirmed.
White House and intelligence officials declined to comment on a Reuters report about the aid.
A U.S. official also said that while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said the U.S., is providing non-lethal aid and communications to the rebels, the presidential finding provides more intelligence resources than had been previously known.

Obama’s order, approved earlier this year, broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the rebels oust Assad, Reuters reported.

So, for example, if your CEO is a homophobic douchebag, he has every right to be so. A boycott by private citizens is NOT an infringement of free speech. It is, in fact, free speech in itself. Really, civics should be required for every high schooler. Another way in which the RW assault on education for the past 30 years serves its interests.

TeaNN didn’t really can his show. They wanted him to move to NY and he didn’t. Then he wanted a half hour show, they wanted 1 hour or the reverse. I don’t recall any more.

The guy is not against pres Obama. What I hate is that Folks who could have spoken out loudly, the civil rights group, DNC, and supporters of this pres stayed Mute. Clayburn demanded a reprimand. Pelosi and Emmanuel poo pooed and didn’t want any fuss. Fuss needed to be made by supporters of the president. Many professional lefties didn’t say much for this was the time of Public Option and ACA. It was just Not the presidency. The supporters should have rallied for this president. Many failed him, including the media. Chip Reid asked Robert Gibbs one time if that was the tone to speak about the Dick Cheney. Yet no one thinks twice of the disrespect, the disparaging of president Obama. Hughely should do his part and not mouthing off. I would doubt that if rev Al had him on that he would be talking that way. No way. No how.

Where were his balls? Why couldn’t he just demand his conditions, and CNN would have to follow? After all, he had brought ratings to their network with his previous episodes, right? It’s so easy to get everything you want if you only show some spine, grow some balls and put your darn foot down doggone it!!

I don’t mind criticism when it is done with respect. On ed show today. Hughley was out of line. He could have done what he needed to do without resulting to hyperbole and then disrespecting pres Obama while talking about the wicked Joe Wilson.

If Dyson keeps doing that again and again, he would have Ed’s ratings tank. Dyson is not a Child. So he better wake the freaking up.

You know what Jovie, a great many people, as LL pointed out earlier, needed some civic lessons about the way the U.S. system of government functions. If I had the power, I would disqualify from punditry any who does not know such basics as the federal system, the three co-equal branches of government and the division of power, and, more importantly, the concept of checks and balances. I also think that pundits should at least have basic knowledge about the U.S. Constitution.

Talk about blaming the victim. Joe Wilson was overcome with racist rage and does the unthinkable during a State of the Union address, and it is PBO’s fault? President Obama travels Thursday to Orlando where he’ll challenge Mitt Romney on what’s normally considered Republican ideological turf: debt and taxes.

Obama got considerable help — and new stump speech material — on Wednesday from a new study by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center that showed those earning more than $1 million could save about $87,000 in taxes under Romney’s plan, which reduces income tax rates by 20 percent across the board.

But those who earn less than $200,000 would actually see their taxes increase by as much as $1,339 under Romney’s plan, the study estimated, because they could lose popular tax breaks for employer health insurance, mortgage interest and state and local taxes.

Obama’s campaign hours later released a Florida-centric companion report, based on a previous Tax Policy Center analysis, that estimated Romney’s plan would raise taxes on 7.6 million Florida households.

But the sheriff made his worst impressions while answering questions about his book, Joe’s Law.

Basically, anytime Arpaio was shown some of the blatant bigotry in that book, he blamed it on co-author Len Sherman. And this was despite being read back his testimony from a previous deposition in which he’d said he didn’t need to read his own book because he’d written it himself.

Arpaio was forced by Young to back off from a couple of statements in the book, including one in which he wrote that Mexicans don’t come to the United States with the same hopes and dreams as people from other countries.. In another part of the book, Young pointed out, Arpaio wrote that second- and third-generation Mexican-Americans were not part of the American “mainstream.”

“My co-author wrote that,” Arpaio blurted out.
