Thank you Ms T! I’m enjoying my last couple of days of complete self-serving freedom. Offspring returns from summer ‘internship’ on Friday and next Wednesday I will have 2 young guests for 8 days. Definitely won’t be able to hang out in the house untroubled, doing what I want when I want then. Sigh! This having company thing is overrated, I think. 😉

HAHAHA..he got so much push back on Twitter and elsewhere, he had no choice but to shape up and get in line. Methinks DL Hughley will be following suit soon 🙂

      • August 1, 2012 at 11:28 pm

Oh Jaysus, what did DL say?

        • 21 hopefruit2
          August 1, 2012 at 11:33 pm

That when Joe “You lie” Wilson yelled during PBO’s SOTU address, PBO should have personally ordered Joe’s arse hauled out of the arena (right, like PBO would unprofessionally interrupt his speech to give that loser any more attention.). By not doing that, PBO basically gave Joe the right to disrespect him, and from that time on, PBO yielded his presidency to the Republicans.

Not sure if it was discussed…but in David Brooks opinion piece a few days ago, he took shots at PBO, blah, blah deficit, blah, debt, blah…but the BIG NEWS is tucked in his blatherings…was this little gem

“The Republican coolness toward Romney is such that he’s having trouble recruiting people to work on the campaign.

This had me thinking….if you look at any of the pictures of Romney rallies..they never veer from elderly white people (more or less Republican activists in the community), whereas the Obamas’ rally is like opening up a bag of skittles. You never SEE any one waiting in lines for his ticket…rather they are probably handed out at local Republican activists. Further, we NEVER see any of their campaign offices OUTSIDE of the one in Boston (where they have hired folks). Michelle is getting 2000K folks and if Romney gets 500, it’s a good day.

Romney’s campaign has always felt FAKE to me…I believe he (and the GOP) know/knew he didn’t/doesn’t have a snowball in hell chance of winning (unless they steal the election) he is just a pawn to collect money from his billionaire buddies for the RNC. His campaign is a JOKE!

  10. August 1, 2012 at 11:15 pm

On Thursday, Good Morning Joe and up way to Early Willie, will again tell us all their is no difference between these two candidates, and that they don’t tell us what they want to do.
Then, an issue will come up, say taxes.
And Joe will flip out on the President and how can he propose that- blah blah blah!
Then, he will say, that he much prefers Willards position.
Now, his whole Show is like this, he actually walks back his remarks, about their being No difference between the President and Robney.
It’s actually very convoluted and disjointed.
I wonder, sometimes, if he is ON something!

        “Sign Barack’s card”…

First Lady Michelle Obama sent this note to supporters today:

Barack’s 51st birthday is coming up.

I hope you’ll wish him a happy birthday by signing the card we’re putting together for him.

You’ll be adding your name and state alongside thousands of other supporters’ names—folks from across the country and from all different backgrounds. Together, all those names will be impressive—they’ll show the strength of this campaign and our support for Barack.

And I know he’s going to love it.

Add your name today—and then ask a friend to join you.

These last few months until Election Day won’t be easy—so let’s show Barack we have his back every step of the way.

You see that when you see them together, remember the pictures of POTUS, FLOTUS, and Malia at that basketball game, I just love their interaction. Look it was Malia telling her Dad that the Kiss Cam were back on her Mom and Dad, she was encouraging Dad to go for it. Most 14 year old would be acting all embarrass.

  12. August 1, 2012 at 11:16 pm

Possibly a straw in the wind: I am ‘friends’ on Facebook with a woman who works in the business office of my school district. I believe that she does not hold the same political views as me and since I usually post a lot of political stuff I generally make the post “custom” so she can’t see it. She has posted some tea party stuff (although she usually doesn’t post much political stuff) and I remember last year or maybe 2010 she was talking about Ayn Rand quite a bit. She has certainly sent me a couple of emails that would put her on the other side of the fence politically. A few weeks ago she posted a sort-of pro-ACA post. Today she posted a definitely pro-Obama post! I think she’s come over to the light!

Hello TOD family – these pictures are priceless. I am missing more and more speeches because of the increasingly busy campaign – so it is always such a pleasure to catch up at night before I turn in. Thank you, Chips, you make me feel like I was part of that happy crowd. Nothing like Romney’s grim faced entourage and non-plussed spectators. No matter how much they try to twist what’s happening- they simply cannot deceive all of us about how the President is “losing” support. I just love the way the President expresses his confidence in the American people, his belief in our ability to “cut through the nonsense”. And I think he is right – people will complain about the slow recovery and about some policies they don’t agree with – but in the end the majority will understand what is at stake and make the right decision. And there is no question that he is on the right side of history when it comes to economic justice and a fair shake for everyone. And then seeing so many people so happy to be there listening to him – it’s reassuring. A good way to end the day – thanks!

Sec Tim Geithner was on Charlie Rose last week. I always learn something when I watch him – he knows what he’s talking about. It’s worth watching this.

      • August 2, 2012 at 12:29 am

I always seem to catch him by accident, and every time I’ve been captivated. A little more context about this program – he talks about everything! His critics (he’s very forceful about this), the LIBOR scandal, the decision making behind the financial rescues, the opposition and obstruction, Simpson Bowles, his admiration of the President… and more. I’m going to have to watch it twice to get the full effect. It really is a wonderful interview.

Thank you so much theo67. I am glad I am not alone in having the highest regard of Sec of the Treasury, Tim Geithner. What really amazes me is the amnesia of Geithner’s critics. At the time President Obamat took the oath of office, this country was on the verge of total financial collapse. In my book, Tim Geithner was a major force in helping President Obama save this country from a total financial melt down, which would have resulted in the Second Great Depression. I don’t care what any one says, but Tim Geithner is one of the unsung heroes of the Obama Administration. Obviously President Obama agrees because fought hard to keep on his team despite Geithner’s desire to quit.

And remember, he was doing it pretty much all by himself at the beginning, because Congress refused to appoint his nominees – in the middle of a depression-level recession! They are horrible.

I can finally sit for a moment..and share my afternoon with you. I registered 5 new voters in 2 hours….I had a conversation with a 19 woman that is the gf of my son’s best friend. I stopped by to pick up my son, and registered my son’s best friend and then I asked her if she was registered. She is…and my son’s bf’s dad mentioned that she’s a Republican and that he didn’t understand how a woman COULD be a Republican! (me either:) I said, “Well, that’s ok. Tell me, what about what Republicans stand for, do you agree with?” She said, “Well, I really don’t know the issues, but I know that I think more like a Republican. ” My passion got the best of me and I began to ask questions that made her think…the girl is IN COLLEGE! No critical thinking skills have managed to kick in yet! We did have a passionate conversation, and in the end, I told her that it was imperative to educate herself about the issues that will effect her. Ignorance of issues is no excuse. She dragged out all the RW talking points that her parents told her were true….I told her that she’s a big girl and she needs to think for herself and research the issues. Long story short…she broke out in hives. I gave this poor girl HIVES! Maybe I was too harsh??? Sometimes I can’t help myself..I’m too old for this shit..seen too much in my lifetime and I’m NOT going back!

Don’t worry. You did fine df. And congratulations on registering 5 new voters! This girl is obviously not used to thinking for herself, so when challenged with an opportunity for some critical thinking, she became stressed out. Well, either she is stressed out NOW, or she’s stressed out later and in a WORSE way when President Willard and other GOP prez cuts out all her preventive health benefits, forces her to pay for cancer treatment for herself or a loved one, forces her to pay for abortion after being raped, forces her to take out hefty student loans with no promise of good paying job after wards, forces her as an old lady to work 2-3 jobs because medicare and SS ran out.

    • August 1, 2012 at 11:54 pm

Maybe those hives were the Republican demons fighting to keep their hold on her? Power (even dark power) never concedes without a fight. Hopefully, one day, she’ll realize how clueless she is – and hopefully it won’t be too late.

I’m not sure what “thinking like a Republican” means in this day and age, when the Republican thought leaders are Limbaugh, Palin, Bachmann, Beck, Cheney, Norquist. That’s really not good.

    • August 1, 2012 at 11:55 pm

df, there are days when I simply can’t do the talking. I get too impatient with the toxic combo, stupidity and arrogance. I mostly have to deal with emoprogs and some days I don’t know which is worse. So I definitely sympathize. It’s good that you made the woman think. It’s too bad she’s about to give up her rights. Before autotune, when, you went to a show, you got performers who actually could sing and sounded better than the ‘record’ because they were actually musicians who honored their craft. There was a full band, sometimes with string sections, brass sections, etc.

Hey, Ms. Chips. Popping in to say OUTSTANDING photos as usual. Just too beautiful for words. I “stole” a few and posted them on Twitter. Think I’ll post a few for Moaning Joe tomorrow, especially the one of the white guy with the “O” painted on his forehead. You know, since PBO struggles sooooo much with white male voters. SMH.

  34. 163 vcprezofan2
    August 2, 2012 at 12:23 am

Earlier I was fiddling around, looking into PBO’s ‘past’….just to find ‘meat’ for my retweet thanks tweets. My experience has always been that PBO’s past clips show his sincerity and consistency. I like to include a little bit of pertinent info or message with these tweets, rather than just a list of twitter handles.

Here’s my first bit of his ‘past’

    • August 2, 2012 at 12:30 am

He’s amazingly consistent. This country is lucky to have him.

Not really. He’ll get the chance to put his crumpled hat back on his head and in a slow dignified shuffle find his way back to count his millions. He has enough millions to warm himself if he does feel cold and rejected.

      • 171 vcprezofan2
        August 2, 2012 at 1:23 am

Hi there JO’B! 😆 TY, and I hope you’ll feel free to use it whenever you can. The idea arose because I often get frustrated on Twitter reading hundreds and hundreds of tweets that moan, groan and repeat irrelevancies far more than they inform or even praise. OTH, there are some very committed and informative twitter participants that really educate and inspire me. Because I only joined twitter to help the TOD brigade push the idea that PBO is the only solution I sometimes get impatient with some of what I read. I know myself, so with a specific goal it’s easier for me to keep myself ‘honest’ and focused and lessens the periodic urge for me to tell someone to cut the trivialities and say something sensible more often. (I did once and irked this guy in my timeline who told me all I had to do was unfollow him if I didn’t like his conversation. I told him I was still there because he did say pertinent stuff from time to time but he should consider the sensibilities of his readers.)

  35. August 2, 2012 at 12:30 am

There are many days when I wonder how such a decent and wonderful man like PBO can get up every morning and deal with this huge and crazy beast that is the United States of America. I don’t know how he does it.

    • August 2, 2012 at 12:32 am

Besides, which regulations were responsible for plunging the country into almost total finical collapse? What’s is wrong with Americans that they have no memory of where the country was when President Obama took office? It’s really a shame that people in this great country are easily manipulated. The forces that almost destroyed the country are the same ones that people are listening to now. In any other society, people would be shunning Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and all the neocons who, eight years ago, almost destroyed this country. Sometimes I think Gore Vidal was absolutely spot-on when he argued that U.S.A. now stands for the United States of Amnesia.

I think you’d be terrified at how few Americans understand that it was deregulation and lack of enforcement during the Bush years that caused the economic collapse. I’d be surprised if it was more than 20%.

As much as I’m a critic of lousy Dem messaging, the deregulation issue is a problem for us since Bill Clinton signed the legislation and did nothing to curtail it. In fact he was fine with it.

But its terrifying how few Americans understand why the banks and Wall St were able to tank the entire world economy.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS DEFEAT BILL TO EXTEND BUSH TAX CUTS ON INCOME BELOW $250K | House Republicans today — by a vote of 170 to 257 — defeated a Democratic proposal to end the Bush tax cuts on income above $250,000. 19 Democrats joined all the Republicans in voting down the bill. The House Republican plan would instead extend all of the Bush tax cuts, as well as fast-track “tax reform” that includes more giveaways to the wealthy and corporations.

And as I added in a reply to this tweet — the lawyers and doctors offices with one employee are ‘small businesses’, but it’s a lot harder to bury income. So they whine about having to pay the lowest taxes in modern history.

” In short, I don’t get the point of the ad. It seems to be written for the Obama campaign team and not the voters. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being Reagan’s “Morning in America,” this is a 2. Maybe a 1.”

    DRIP….DRIP…DRIP…

HEADLINE: Reid doubles down on Romney tax charge

// WASHINGTON – Sen. Harry Reid caused a stir this week when he told an interviewer that Mitt Romney hasn’t released more of his tax returns because “he didn’t pay taxes for 10 years.” On Wednesday, Reid doubled down on the charge. In an interview published Tuesday, Reid said an investor in Bain Capital, the former private equity firm of the Republican presidential candidate, told him in a phone call that Romney had paid zero taxes…
…On Wednesday, Reid stuck to his story, and broadened it.

“I am not basing this on some figment of my imagination,” Reid said in a telephone call with Nevada reporters. “I have had a number of people tell me that.” Asked to elaborate on his sources, Reid declined. “No, that’s the best you’re going to get from me. I don’t think the burden should be on me,” Reid said. “The burden should be on him. He’s the one I’ve alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn’t he release his tax returns?” //

Harry’s got the goods on Mitt. Bet on it.

Rachel’s segment last night on how Romney ‘retroactived’ his taxes in order to lie about — oops, I mean ‘prove’ — his residency issues before running for Governor.

Is he filing amended returns a we speak?

This assertion by Reid would blunt any effort of Mitt to again lie about what taxes he paid, and when.

      • 229 hopefruit2

Definitely. Senator Reid is not the type to flit around spreading unsubstantiated rumors – particularly during an important election. He KNOWS something. And that’s a big, big problem for Romney that can’t be just etch-a-sketched away.

GOP: “TAX BREAKS FOR THE WEALTHY OR TAX BREAKS FOR NO ONE”

House sets stage for tax showdown

    By Steve Benen

    —————————————————-

For his part, President Obama has already issued a veto threat, vowing not to sign the Republican plan, and the White House issued a statement after the House vote: “At a time when we need to make tough choices to reduce the deficit, we can’t afford another massive tax break for the wealthiest two percent of Americans. We’ve tried this approach, and it didn’t grow the economy or strengthen the middle class…. [The president] will continue to call on Republicans in the House to stop holding the middle class tax cuts hostage and the House needs to follow the Senate’s lead and get this done.”

The references to holding tax cuts “hostage” is of particular interest, because it helps summarize exactly what Republican lawmakers are arguing: tax breaks for the wealthy or tax breaks for no one. That’s the message the GOP is taking into the August recess and the 2012 election season.
