I was in DC this weekend and viewed her Inaugural dress and accessories (down to the Jimmy Choos)at the Smithsonian. I also took a pic next to a life-sized photo of her and PBO on at their Inaugural Ball :lol:. Everything was GORGEOUS, just gorgeous. People were oohing and aahing over all things Michelle Obama. If you get a chance, do go see it.

Yes, this church is very powerful and secretive. You can see why Bishop Romney is so good at lying with a straight face. His belief, his business exp are based on keeping secret, secrets. Interesting bit around 38:06 when BBC guy interviews Mitts cousin, Park Romney (looks like him) who left the Church. And another nteresting comment from an IOWA TeaParty Evangelical couple near end, who says that if Presidential election was between Mitt and Obama, she wouldn’t turn up to vote. (I really hope there are more that think like her and do just that….sit it out).

I always believed anyone can run for any office regardless of religious affiliation or lack of as long as the individual can separate their own personal faith and instead govern based on the law of the land and enforces the wishes of the majority as long as it is the best interest of the Nation. This video rang some serious alarm bells for me.
I tweeted the video and focused on what Mitt Romney’s cousin Park Romney had to say and what his kids babysitter had to say about Mitt. This video allowed me to see how as Bishop Mitt handled his congregation and I must admit I was concerned with him keeping tabs on people. Folks cited being followed??? Files kept? The charge of the babysitter being threatened with excommunication unless she gave up her child? That is a concern.
‘This video rang some serious alarm bells for me.’ This was what I was trying to articulate by saying I found it ‘odd’, I guess. I had this sense that the Mormon leaders were lying when they denied certain of the allegations made by the excommunicated members, sort of the same feeling I get from Willard at times. There were definitely areas where I felt distinctly uncomfortable.
I have to say that the bit about the wedding and the mother not being allowed in the church rang a bell for me. A couple of my cousins are now mormons (because they like the way the church cares for its own and is supportive, yada, yada), and when their dad died recently – my mom’s only brother- the funeral was held in the mormon church extension. Members of the church served refreshments (mostly provided by the family) but I never knew until then that they did not drink coffe/tea. When I asked my cousin if we could provide it for those who might appreciate it I was told that it couldn’t be served on their grounds. I thought it was weird because no mormons had to drink it if they didn’t want to , but I didn’t press the issue, not drinking either myself. It was a bit of an unusual funeral from what I’d previously been exposed to but their side of the family was alright with it, so ….
Anyway, to get back to the issue,,, I don’t trust Mitt or his religios commitment, but i don’t think I need worry.
It’s interesting that there are approximately the same number of Mormons and Muslims living in the United States. But the media and everyone else shies away from questioning Romney on his religion, even though he was a Bishop in the church, and feels free to claim credit for donating 10% of his fortune to the church (which is a requirement for all Mormons, whether you have millions or not), citing sensitivity to the Constitution that claims there should be no religious test. But, these very same people have spent four years spreading a lie about President Obama’s faith, and denouncing the Muslim faith with absolutely no regard for reality or the Constitution. It’s pretty disconcerting, as Mitt would say.
I watched the whole video and I agreed with parts of it, and a few other parts seemed like sour grapes. II wish it had discussed the potential impact that the Mormon faith might have on Romney’s world view. I though the Vanity Fair article a while back covered a lot of the same points. It’s worth watching though.

Fascinating. Thanks for posting that. I found it to be fair. Just the idea of a bishop of any religion becoming President is kind of troubling. The most disturbing thing about the Mormon church in my mind (I know there are plenty of good people who are Mormons) is all those records they keep on the ancestry of all people, Mormon or not. It creeps me out to think that they have all those records compiled in Salt Lake City. I’m surprised the documentary didn’t mention that.

PBO was able to visit the troops in ’08 as a sitting Senator; if you recall, he was on a fact finding visit with troops. As r’money has no official government position, he has no ability to visit troops in an “official” capacity.
Maybe Mitt would have gone to visit the troops if Queen Ann could have gone with him.
He could’ve worked out a visit through the USO if he wanted to. Unelected officials do it all the time.

The next questions are what would Romney do as president–move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem? CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked in an interview with Romney in Jerusalem at the King David Hotel.
Blitzer asked, “If you become president of the United States, would you move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem?”
Romney replied, “I think it’s long been the policy of our country to ultimately have our embassy in the nation’s capital, Jerusalem. The decision to actually make the move is one, if I were president, I would want to take in consultation with the leadership of the government which exists at that time. So I would follow the same policy we have in the past. Our embassy would be in the capital. But that said, the timing of that is something I’d want to work out with the government. …with the government of Israel”
Blitzer pressed, “But every Israeli government has always asked every U.S. government to recognize Jerusalem as the capital and to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.”
Romney replied, “Well, that would make the decision easy, but I’d still want to have that communication with the government leaders.
Summing up, Blitzer said, “So just to be precise. If you’re president, you would consult with the Israeli government. And if they said, please move the embassy, you would do that?”
Romney did not say yes or no. “I’m not going to make foreign policy for my nation, particularly while I’m on foreign soil. My understanding is the policy of our nation has been a desire to move our embassy ultimately to the capital. That’s something which I would agree with. But I would only want to do so and to select the timing in accordance with the government of Israel. ”

I can’t make up my mind if Romney as a candidate is just too good (for PBO) to be true, or if he is just too horrible to contemplate. A part of me thinks that the President deserves a more honorable opponent.

Also, during the Olympics tonight I saw the ad on TV where the President is just sitting and directly talking to the audience and I think it’s perfect. In that ad the President is a warm caring sensible person who inspires confidence. It gave me a good feeling. I know we see him that way every day but a lot of people do not see the wonderful moments that we see posted here.The public are going to see a lot of negativity put out by Romney and Company in the next few months. They will need frequent “reality checks” to counter that. Just seeing the President as he really is, talking to the people in that down to earth comfortable way will make the negative ads look ridiculous. I hope there are more of these type of ads from the Obama camp. Things that make people feel like the country is in safe competent hands and that a decent responsible person is in charge.

Romney seems to have forgotten (or rather he probably just couldn’t possibly care less) that there are ramifications to his words in the region. As most responsible world leaders are aware, there’s more than just one side to this peace process that the US must be able to bring to the table. All evidence points to Romney’s inability to do that after today.
In another (and potentially far more deadly) unnecessary diplomatic incident created because of Romney’s weakness in foreign affairs, the Palestinians are extremely upset by the Romney campaign’s needlessly hawkish rhetoric today. In his desperation to look tough (something Obama doesn’t need to pretend to do), Romney has put Israel at greater risk:
the Palestinians were infuriated, saying his remarks were “harmful to American interests in our region.”
“They harm peace, security and stability,” Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat told AFP.
“Even if this statement is within the US election campaign, it is unacceptable and we completely reject it. The US election campaign should never be at the expense of the Palestinians,” he said.
Gingrich has no qualms supporting a liar to be the next President of the United States. Obviously, Gingrich lacks moral values. Once again GOP hypocrisy is exposed.
Remember the pastor who call Romney religion a cult, well this pastor will be supporting a member of a cult. What does that say about that pastor? So the Republicans hypocrisy doesn’t just start with Newt, it’s all over the field.
You are absolutely right, anniebella! Newt Gingrich is not alone when it comes to Republican hypocrisy. Many other Republicans who go around claiming to be “values voters,” have no problem supporting a man who has perfected the art of lying. The same is true of many right wing pastors, who are supposedly moral leaders of their churches. They too have no problem participating in lying or supporting a habitual liar.

Indicators across the board tell a different story. Just a couple of days ago GDP exceeded expectations. The housing market has stabilized and looks to be turning around. Manufacturing is growing and the private sector is set to record it’s 29th straight month of growth. Slow recovery yes. Stagnant no.
Quarter 2 GDP was 2% in quarter 3 it’s 1.5!

Can we be clear on one thing: Mitt doesn’t give a damn about Israel. He doesn’t give a damn about Bibi. He doesn’t have a clue what his ‘principles’ are concerning the Mideast or anything else. This Israel trip was nothing more than a whoring expedition for money from Adelson.
A little-known fact is that his speech was to a handpicked audience of mainly American RW Jews. There weren’t even a whole lot of Israelis there. And although we hear about the standing ovation, reports from inside that room said even this handpicked audience knew they were looking at a ruthless empty suit.
