๐Ÿ˜† Pamela, maybe if I hold your hand and pull you along? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just kidding, I only won because I staked out those two threads today – my way of helping myself feel like I was back in the swing of things. Lovely thought, VC, but I can only peer in furtively when I am at work. I daresay it is so random you guys must think I am online all day, but that is only a dream for me. My hand’s still tingling from PBO holding it yesterday at his event in Portland. Glad he got to see sunshine and mountains out west before getting rained on again in New Orleans. I hope the poor guy gets to rest a little on Air Force 1. Don’t see how he keeps up the pace!

        July 25, 2012 at 7:19 pm

I posted last night when I got in late. Went straight from the PBO event at the Convention Center to my neighborhood team meeting with 30 people. No, I did not wash my hand so people at the meeting could get a sense of being almost there. Still thrilled beyond measure. I also gave Craig Robinson one of those sign language “I love you” hand gestures, and he signed me right back.

Saw myself in one of the photos Chips posted where PBO is coming into the event and folks are snapping pictures like crazy. I’m the little old short lady in front on the far left behind a cute young thing taking photos with her smart phone. I think my own husband is kind of jealous. He was taking pictures so missed a chance to shake PBO’s hand, and now he is taking forever to polish up the pictures. He took a funny one of Pete Souza aiming his camera right back at him!

I told our President that we all love him at TOD and have his back!

And now I regret calling him that, what with my wife’s own struggles with weight. Really, he needs to do something if he wants to be around for 2016 just for his family, regardless of his political aspirations.

The top tier Republicans are all waiting for 2016. They know Romney is a stiff and his chances of winning dwindle by the hour.

is it possible they don’t realize that blatant lies are coming out of their mouths? this from the article:

One adviser also told the paper, โ€œObama is a left-winger. He doesnโ€™t value the NATO alliance as much. Heโ€™s very comfortable with American decline and the traditional alliances donโ€™t mean as much to him. He wouldnโ€™t like singing โ€˜Land of Hope and Glory.โ€™โ€

The Telegraph reports that the advisers would not go on the record because they have been instructed to not insult the president in the foreign press.

yep, ‘instructed not to insult the president’–except for the part where they say he’s ‘comfortable with american decline’ and all. oh, but i guess, if they don’t give their names when they make these insulting statements to the foreign press about their president, that then it’s as if they didn’t say anything insulting. right.

Romney Welcomes Back The Same Foreign Policy Geniuses Who Led Us Into Iraq

    By Joe Conason

    ————————————

With Mitt Romneyโ€™s announcement of the foreign policy team that will be counseling his campaign, the former Massachusetts governor has dispelled any remaining mystery about his own outlook. He has likewise done away with any illusion that he is โ€œmoderateโ€ on diplomatic and national security issues โ€” or that his nomination would mark a departure from his partyโ€™s incredibly costly global blunders of the past decade.

If Romney is elected, the nation can evidently expect more of the same, for the names he has listed are all too familiar to anyone who remembers the unhappy history of deception, disgrace, and war in the last Bush administration. Discredited though they may be, the neoconservatives โ€” with all their bloody baggage โ€” are back.

Big brouhaha in Chgo as an alderman rightly blocks Chick-fil-A from opening in his trendy ward. Mayor Rahm is in support saying “Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago’s values”, referring of course to the owner’s support of many anti-gay organizations and anti-gay marriage/whacko Christian beliefs. Huckabee and Santorum have aligned with the homophobes.

  22. 84 Linda

The Obama campaign on Wednesday afternoon announced that it had received the endorsement of the advocacy group National Association of Police Organizations.

โ€œNAPO is proud to endorse the Obama-Biden ticket today,โ€ NAPO President Thomas J. Nee said in a statement forwarded by the campaign.

โ€œThis Administrationโ€™s unwavering support for law enforcement has meant that men and women in uniform across the country have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently, protecting the communities and citizens they serve. There are simply no better friends of law enforcement โ€“ and no stronger choice to lead this nation for another term โ€“ than President Obama and Vice President Biden.โ€

The endorsement comes two days after Vice President Joe Biden addressed the organization’s 34th annual convention. It proves the theory that the groups that are traditionally under the Democratic umbrella will be with Obama in 2012, even if some of their primary issues have been put on the backburner.

Limiting the availability of assault weapons is a traditional prerogative for police officers and their unions. And while the administration has reiterated its commitment to renewing the assault weapons ban, it has also signaled that it isn’t going to put much effort into championing new gun control legislation, even in the wake of last week’s mass shooting in Aurora, Colo.

Obama does have a proactive case to make to the group, of course. Whereas Romney has publicly stated he doesn’t feel compelled to spend more federal funds on first responders, firefighters and cops, the president has made the retention of their jobs a top priority.

CBS cut off the intro as well. I don’t know what’s up with that. They tried to show clips of when he first landed, but unfortunately for them, the people waiting at the airport began spontaneously cheering “Four More Years!” as soon as PBO deplaned AF1. CBS quickly switched back to the speech – where he had already been introduced.

Okay, I’m trying CNN. ๐Ÿ™„ As to them not sharing the introductions, I CONSOLE MYSELF with the thought that politics is local, so even if I don’t hear the introductions, the local people do; I like to think this means more to them because it’s closer to home, so to speak.

My friend Catherine just called me after she had been at the hairdresser. She told me that her hairdresser is going to vote for Romney because if he loses, all the wealthy Americans are going to move out of the country. Now this person knows that the healthcare law was a good thing, but she is afraid. My friend told her that was ridiculous. How can people be so gullible?

    • 135 Dudette

What exactly is she afraid of — wealthy Americans moving out of the country? They haven’t left in the last 3 1/2 years, so what’s gonna make them leave next year? Middle class people need their hair done too.

The economy is in enormously better shape now than it was when PBO took office and is improving everyday, DESPITE the Republican sabotage. Imagine how great it’ll be when President Obama working with a Congress that actually WANTS the country to succeed!

Does that hairdresser care about Medicare, Social Security, education, the middle class? If I were you I wouldn’t let this hair dresser come near me with anything hot or any chemicals. Where do people get these crazy notions? Rush? FOX? Chain emails? People need to engage their brains, think for themselves. They need to ask themselves, “Does this make sense?” Somewhere along the way, those who were responsible for guiding and educating these people failed them.

This information must have come from one of those chain RW “scare” email messages that are being used to frighten people into voting for Romney. If you can, have your friend Catherine ask her hairdresser WHERE did she get this information from. If we know the source of this propaganda and false garbage, we can combat it.

    • July 25, 2012 at 7:54 pm

I talked to a long-term friend (former colleague) a couple of days ago who has voted Dem all her life. She’s nearing 70 and I think she’s been watching a lot of cable TV because she told me Dems lie as much as Repubs. She’s thinking about becoming an Independent. I nearly lost it.

      • 142 vcprezofan2
        July 25, 2012 at 8:01 pm

After you catch your breath, and remember, she’s just ‘thinking’ about it, try to get the conversation turned around to the Supreme Court. Pres. Obama will be able to appoint at least two Supreme Court Justices. And at 70, I would think that your friend would be interested in the healthcare Medicare issues.

Honestly, even if she changed to be a Re-thug, as long as she votes for PBO and the down ticket in your state, it’s all good.

The only wealthy people who will leave this country are the greedy ones who put money and profits ahead of their love of this country. They have no allegiance to this country and it’s people. They’ve been cheering for a bad economy so they can ram thru more tax cuts, more spending cuts for those who desperately need those services (including seniors and poor kids), more deregulation of safety and consumer protections, so they can do whatever they want to drive the American worker to a point of desperation, so he’ll fight his neighbor for any available scrap, instead of demanding more for both him and his neighbor. Good riddance to that type, and God help whatever country they end up in. There are plenty of good rich people, and plenty more people with potential to make this country better, along with making themselves rich.

Talking to a guest who was on to talk about Michele Bachman’s despicable accusations of Huma Abedin based on some flimsy, trumped up guilt-by association crap, Tweety said this: “All my relatives are Republicans, but they haven’t had much influence me – ya think (Frank)?
Guest (Frank somebody): I’m glad you mentioned that, because all of us have crazy relatives with nutty ideas… ”

Do y’all think there will be a new PBO stump speech? Or is this it for the duration? This one is great, but if he ever needs a fill-in, I could deliver. I remember this same thing in ’08. Selfishly, I would love some new material, altho I realize it’s probably not all about me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Poor PBO! Expected to meet the needs of everyone all the time! I don’t think everyone has heard this one yet, Dotster, and in fairness, his message IS the message. If he doesn’t get it out there some of us complain. Plus, he does tweak it here and there, despite keeping it consistent.

As a retired teacher I know repetition is the key to learning. That is what the GOP uses and that is how they get people to believe their sorry lies. Repeat them enough and people think they are true. If Obama varied his speech constantly besides not being able to deliver it without a teleprompter it would take the people more work to actually know what he is saying. Like a small child that enjoys his parents reading the same book over and over, partake in the joy of knowing what is going to be said next. Enjoy!!!

Statement by President Obama on the Passage of the Middle Class Tax Cut Extension
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/07/25/statement-president-obama-passage-middle-class-tax-cut-extension

With the Senateโ€™s vote, the House Republicans are now the only people left in Washington holding hostage the middle-class tax cuts for 98% of Americans and nearly every small business owner. The last thing a typical middle class family can afford is a $2,200 tax hike at the beginning of next year. Itโ€™s time for House Republicans to drop their demand for another $1 trillion giveaway to the wealthiest Americans and give our families and small businesses the financial security and certainty that they need. Our economy isnโ€™t built from the top-down, itโ€™s built from a strong and growing middle class, and thatโ€™s who we should be fighting for.

I am not offended at all because it’s the truth. We do have to be involve in our kids schooling, don’t let the only time the teacher see us parents is when our kids get in trouble. I agree with Shrum that President Obama talks about personal responsibility to ALL audiences. I’ve heard him repeatedly tell parents in every audience to read to their children, turn off the TVs, shut down the video games, make sure homework is getting done, make education important, because it is—-it’s the whole deal now—-and essential to any future success. Dyson was saying that some are sensitive that Obama only instructs in that way before black audiences. Not true. He gives the same needed message to all. And I wouldn’t mind if he said it over and over and over. It’s that important.

The Senate today voted down a tax plan crafted by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) by a vote of 45-54. The plan would have extended all of the Bush tax cuts โ€” including those on income in excess of $250,000 โ€” while eliminating tax credits that benefit 20 million working families. Due to an agreement with Democrats, the bill needed a simple majority, rather than a filibuster-proof supermajority, to pass. Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) was the lone Democrat to vote in favor of the plan, while Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Scott Brown (R-MA) voted against it.

      Update

The Senate accepted the Democratic tax plan, which extends the Bush tax cuts for income up to $250,000, by a vote of 51-48.
