Is there something I need to know about the little gray box on the screen? So, Chips?

    • July 17, 2012 at 9:49 pm

Yikes, are the photos not showing up for you Pamela? Are you on your iPad?

      • July 17, 2012 at 9:52 pm

        No, photos are fantastic, Yes I am on iPad, but there is a fancy little gray field inviting me to Follow The Obama Diary, with 2,659 others, by adding my email to receive new posts! I can send a screen shot if you like. {{{{{{Chips}}}}}}

        • July 17, 2012 at 9:57 pm

Ah, okay, thanks Pamela. Just got in a little while ago and there was an email from WordPress announcing fancy new things … which always makes me nervous:

Everyone loves widgets right? They allow you to add neat features to your blog and really make it your own. They are universal, because you can use them on all different themes, so no matter which theme you’ve used to represent your own personal style, widgets can help you round out the features that make your blog tick. Some of WordPress.com’s newer features like Following and Liking have needed some widget-love, so we’ve whipped up a few new ones to help you out. All of these widgets can be used immediately and added to one of your sidebars under Appearance → Widgets.
          Blogs I Follow

The first widget, named Blogs I Follow, allows you to display a list of the blogs that you are following via the WordPress.com Reader. You can display the list as a grid of images representing the blogs or just a series of links. This widget is perfect for introducing your readers to the blogs that inspire and interest you.

          Posts I Like

Next up, the Posts I Like widget displays an image grid or a linked list of posts that you have liked recently. This widget is a great way to expose your readers to specific posts and content that you really enjoy. It’ll stay automatically updated by only showing the most recent content you have liked.

          My Community

The new My Community widget allows you to highlight all of the activity happening on your blog. You can show people who have commented, liked, or followed your blog, or any combination of the three.

          Gravatar Profile

We have also added a Gravatar Profile widget that will automatically pull in your Gravatar profile information including your photo, bio, verified services, and custom links. There’s no need to type out your information again when you can automatically display it using Gravatar. Drop this widget in your sidebar and introduce yourself to your readers!

          Top Posts & Pages

In addition to the four brand new widgets above, we have also expanded the functionality of the Top Posts & Pages widget. You can now toggle between measuring top posts by views or by likes. You can also choose to display the list as a simple text list, a list with images, or a more visual grid of larger images.

We hope you enjoy these new widget choices. Let us know what you think in the comments and be sure to continue to let us know what kind of widgets you’re interested in!

I won’t have a chance to check out the new stuff til tomorrow, but this might explain the new thing you’re seeing??

          • July 17, 2012 at 10:01 pm

Yes it probably does, if only I could understand it! No hurry, as I have the patience of the Solar System, but as there is no X option to get rid of it, I will leave it alone until all is clear. Sent the screen capture shots, check them when you have time. Meanwhile, have a good night, and get some rest, we have an election to win, and a country to save!

            • July 17, 2012 at 10:09 pm

Thanks Pamela, will check out this new weirdness tomorrow!

                • July 17, 2012 at 10:51 pm

Hey! What about me? (do I sound like Myth?) don’t I even get a hello Pamela for bringing over your first couple of focus for the day posts? Have been trying to follow your trip, but not much time online.

Pamela, I see you missed the hugs I gave you earlier. Here you go {{Pamela}}. I’m so out of it that I hadn’t yet discovered who brought my focus for the day to light, though I had previously given a generalized thank you. So, very specifically, ‘thank you’ my dear for your support. 😆 It’s hard to explain how disconnected I feel as a result of those 5 days when I could not follow the goings on. I suspect it’s going to take quite a while for me to feel back to normal. 😉

      I don’t see what you’re seeing Pamela.

      • July 17, 2012 at 9:58 pm

I sent a screen shot to Chips, as I have just noticed it has appeared on all the posts for today, but it wasn’t there earlier. If it’s going to mess with my name I don’t want to fill it in, and I already receive notification by email, albeit 10 minutes after a new thread is up, hence I am never first anymore, but that doesn’t matter! It’s all just fun anyway…

Isn’t Cheney the guy that said “deficits don’t matter?” Just sayin….

    • 38 desertflower
      July 17, 2012 at 10:01 pm

      Why…look here:)

“Reagan,” Vice President Dick Cheney famously declared in 2002, “proved deficits don’t matter.” Unless, that is, a Democrat is in the White House. After all, while Ronald Reagan tripled the national debt and George W. Bush doubled it again, each Republican was rewarded with a second term in office. But as the Gallup polling data show, concern over the federal deficit hasn’t been this high since Democratic budget balancer Bill Clinton was in office. All of which suggest the Republicans’ born-again disdain for deficits ranks among the greatest – and most successful – political double-standards in recent memory.

      July 17, 2012 at 10:43 pm

That’s exactly what he said, df! He had no problem championing lower tax rates for the privileged 2% he was advocating for paying the two wars on credit, and giving the top 2% another round of tax cuts. On the other hand, I realize that Cheney has a mechanical heart. Consequently, I do not expect him to have any human sympathies, or, for that matter, any human feelings. For a guy who advocated the idea that “deficits do not matter,” to be now going around blasting President Obama on the deficits, shows how dishonest he and the Congressional Republicans are. They think all of the American people suffer from amnesia. They want Americans to believe that everything was peachy until President Obama was elected. Most of us who still have control over our minds know better.

Is it just me, or does Cheney remind anyone else of “Mr. Potter.” On Inaugural day when he was in the wheel chair with a blanket. Oh, yes, just as mean as Mr. Potter.

Hey Chips, George W Bush endorsed Willard mitt liar/cheat Romney. Rachel maddow showed the footage from the tape. Also, the conservative college orgnization tried to lock the video down on the internet..

    • 44 utaustinliberal
      July 17, 2012 at 10:08 pm

I saw the video on The Maddow show. Basically, that was a lame endorsement from GWB. He looked like he was forced to endorse Romney and when asked if he would campaign for Romney, he said that Romney doesn’t need him out on the campaign trail. Translation: “Bruh….you’re on your own.”

Here’s a post that speculates that Mitt is reluctant to release tax returns filed AFTER his 2008 Presidential bid. Sources interviewed think it’s likely that Mitt paid no taxes at all in 2009 (because of the horrendous “worst job in the world” economy that PBO was saddled with).

Andrew Sullivan and other pundits such as Josh Marshall (TPM) and Howard Kurtz (CNN Reliable Sources) believe that the National Review calling for Mitt’s release of his taxes will result his doing exactly that.

Aah, so you didn’t see my little love note at approximately # 17 above! I’m fine now, after being tortured for 5 days waiting for AT&T to activate internet service at the home in which I’m staying. I AM NOT AT ALL IMPRESSED WITH THEIR SERVICE, and I did explain to more than one of them that I was in withdrawal and could they speed things up! The last one in the office that I explained things to actually admitted that she did see ‘expedite’ on my file but there was no way to expedite the matter. Grrr! Anyways, that’s hopefully all behind me, and all I have to do now is figure out what/all I missed.

Charles Blow and Joy Reid are preaching truth and breaking it down right now on The Last Word. Lawrence just let them roll. Whenever the video pops up, it is a MUST SEE. Charles called out the racist rantings of John Sununu. He said the GOP can’t stand the idea of a Black man in what they consider White people’s house so they sent out everyone’s favorite drunk uncle; John Sununu to play racist. He said the GOP don’t like Romney. They aren’t voting for Romney, they’re voting against Pres. Obama because it burns them, it chokes them that a Black man is leading the country. He said they could run Opie for all they care as long as they succeed in removing Pres. Obama from what they consider “their house.”

He and Joy are breaking it down like no other! Damn!

Better post this before they scrub Sununu’s Wikipedia page:

“..Sununu was born in Havana, Cuba, the son of Victoria (née Dada) and John Saleh Sununu, an international film distributor.[1] He is of Palestinian and Greek descent [2]. His father grew up in Jerusalem and his mother was born in San Salvador, El Salvador.[2][3] He is a Maronite Catholic.”

Dude, thinks he’s MORE AMERICAN (whatever the hell that means) than Barack Obama… just sayin’!

        • 109 nathkatun7
          July 18, 2012 at 12:37 am

Assuming that Sununu became a naturalized citizen, the fact remains that both of his parents were not Americans. That didn’t prevent from being elected Governor of a state, and serving as Chief of Staff for the 41st President, G. H. W. Bush. While we are at it, lets also put out the fact that Mitt’s father, Gorge Romney/ was born in Mexico. But that didn’t prevent George Romney from being elected Governor of Michigan, or for him running for president.

    • 110 Dudette
      July 17, 2012 at 10:49 pm

      Oh yeh, peep this:
      John Sununu should know better
The Romney surrogate says Obama needs to “learn how to be an American” — but his own ethnicity faced scrutinity

Interesting excerpt that explains why he walked back his statements earlier today:

“Sununu’s assertion that Obama is not an American is inappropriate enough in its own right, as he himself admitted, but it’s even more absurd considering that Sununu himself has faced questions about his ethnic heritage throughout his political career. He was born in Cuba and is of Greek, Lebanese and Palestinian descent. A New York Times story from 1988 notes that Sununu “says he has received hundreds of telephone calls about his heritage.”

Sununu’s son, John E., who served as a senator from New Hampshire, spoke movingly about the “scrutiny” his father faced for being Arab-American. Sununu said at the American Task on Palestine Inaugural Gala in 2006…”

    Found this comment. GREAT!

David Drissel · Professor of Social Sciences at Iowa Central Community College
It’s a sad day when Mitt Romney accuses President Obama of being “extraordinarily foreign.” On the same day, Romney surrogate, John Sununu, says that Obama needs to “learn how to be an American.” This is pure xenophobia and code for racism. I’m disgusted by this sort of gutter politics. But it’s also kind of ironic that the man with bank accounts in Switzerland, the Cayman Islands, etc., (Romney), calls the other guy “foreign.”

Sorry if this has been posted already…I feel a little lost today…out doing voter reg….and having to try and catch up here:)

    Joshua Green at Bloomberg

has what is the most logical theory so far… which is that thanks to the economic collapse of 2008, and the massive losses he probably suffered, Romney might not have paid any taxes in 2009, thanks to tax-loss carryforwards.
As a member of the ultra-rich, Romney probably wasn’t spared major losses. And it’s possible that he suffered a large enough capital loss that, carried forward and coupled with his various offshore tax havens, he wound up paying no U.S. federal taxes at all in 2009. If true, this would be politically deadly for him. Even assuming that his return was thoroughly clean and legal — a safe assumption, it seems to me — the fallout would dwarf the controversy that attended the news that Romney had paid a tax rate of only 14 percent in 2010 and estimated he’d pay a similar rate in 2011.
We’re not sure whether Green is right that it would be politically “deadly” though we could certainly see why Romney wouldn’t want this known, if it were true.
