Maybe there Republicans don’t actually know what “demean” means? Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt here – the party of George Bush, impeachment and sensationalizing of a sex scandal, starting illegal wars and parading on an aircraft carrier (wearing a codpiece) to declare undeserved victory, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Dick Cheney, an Administration full of lying liars like Donald Rumsfeld, Condi Rice, etc. They clearly don’t know what “demeaning” means, otherwise, they’d never show their faces again.

    Breaking News!

    Attention Everyone!

Mitt Romney just stubbed his toe. There’s a little blood and he’s feeling a a tad faint. Okay, that’s really due to his hypoglemia brought on by the mean black man who won’t just move out the way, so Mitt fulfill his destiny and be President of the World. Could someone pass him a cold compress, please?

Alright, now back to your regularly scheduled programs. Pundits, resume your positions. Prepare to pucker!!

I was watching AF1 take off on the local fox live feed and the reporters , as least one of them, seemed shocked that our President is doing so well in Ohio.

One was talking about the low unemployment there and saying that the people are not giving the President credit for that…..

Is the guy aware that the Gov of Ohio said that PBO should get ” All the credit ? “

I heard that reporter. Had to mute the feed. He watches too much FOX, and believes everything he hears. I couldn’t believe his claim that Americans aren’t giving President any credit for Ohio’s good economy.

They seem to believe that Mitt-the-Liar can put this behind him. This is magical thinking. PBO campaign has plenty more ammo. We haven’t even started hammering the Ryan-Rubio budget, Medicare vouchers, immigration, women’s reproductive rights, Government subsities (2002 Mitt-run olympics), Right Affordable Health Care. So many weapons, so much time.

PBO has barely scratched the surface of his ACCOMPLISHMENTS, or as the pundits like to refer to it as ‘the record he can’t run on.’

-If we talk about the economy, PBO will lose. I believe this is called ‘conventional wisdom’. What it’s really called is ‘I got nothin’, and I’m too intellectually lazy to get actual facts to assess.

Maybe he’s forgotten that the President is also the Chief Executive, and it’s his job to execute the laws. If Romney’s violated some laws with the SEC, then it’s the President’s job to investigate. Also, the President is fighting to keep the job he won, fairly and squarely. His job happens to be a political one. If Harwood is offended by the politics, then he should go take a seat. I notice he was never offended by the racism, though. And the lies. And the hate.

Senate GOP poised to kill Disclose Act

    By Steve Benen

In just a couple of hours, the Senate is poised to take up the Disclose Act (Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light On Spending in Elections), which isn’t expected to do very well. Before Republicans kill it, though, it’s worth pausing to appreciate how modest the proposal really is.

The Washington Post’s editorial board, which isn’t exactly liberal, ran a good piece over the weekend.
Update: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said on the floor this afternoon, “If this flood of outside money continues, the day after the election, 17 angry old white men will wake up and realize they just bought the country. That’s a sad commentary. About 60 percent, or more, of these outside dollars [contributing $10,000 or more] are coming from these 17 people.”

This man is a piece of work–truly. John Kerry released at least a decade of tax returns and had nothing to hide. His wife’s money was an issue, but only to show he lived an “elitist” life. WASHINGTON — Add another document to the pile, this one from California’s secretary of state.

In a filing dated July 21, 1999, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was listed as a “general partner” for Bain Capital Partners, a California Limited Partnership. Romney’s signature is on the document declaring that he certified “that the statements contained in this document are true and correct to my own knowledge. I declare that I am the person who is executing this instrument, which execution is my act and deed.”

Romney remained on record as one of four general partners until the state was notified of his resignation on June 17, 2003.

REPORT: Biggest Donor To Romney And GOP Did Business With Chinese Mob

Things are getting awkward for Sheldon Adelson, the casino magnate who pledged to spend a “limitless” amount of money to get Mitt Romney elected. Adelson’s latest woes stem from business practices surrounding his lucrative casino in Macau, the only Chinese city with legalized gambling.

The Macau operation has long been under scrutiny but a new in-depth investigation from ProPublica and PBS focused on allegations of improper, and perhaps in some cases illegal, business dealings by Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands company in China. While focusing on the possibility that Sands violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act with a $700,000 payment to a Chinese associate, PBS also released documents that bolstered accusations of business ties between Adelson’s shop and Chinese organized crime figures… [more in the article]

Newest Bombshell from David Corn: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/07/romney-bain-testimony-transition

Romney’s Account of His Departure From Bain Undercut by…Romney Testimony
In a previously unreported remark, Romney indicated he went through a “transition” at Bain after heading to Utah in February 1999.

in interviews with the major television networks on Friday, Romney insisted, as he told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, that he had “no role with regards to Bain Capital after February 1999.” He maintained that all the questions regarding his stint at Bain were merely part of the Obama campaign’s “kill Romney” strategy.

Yet during that 2002 hearing—in a remark that has not been previously reported—Romney said that after he departed Bain in February 1999 he went through a transition period regarding his work in Boston.

When a lawyer challenging his eligibility asked Romney, “Did you remain more or less continuously in Salt Lake City from February ’99 to the end of the year,” Romney answered:

Actually, there was some transition away from my work in Boston for the first few months and then I pretty much stayed there after.

Trying to clarify this, the lawyer, after referring to this “transition,” asked, “So from February through the end of the year you were pretty much full-time out in Utah, right?”

Romney replied: “Well again, the beginning of the year was a good deal of time back and forth, but towards the last half of the year it was pretty much exclusively in Utah.”

With these statements, it seems Romney was saying that because he remained involved in Bain matters during a transition period, he traveled to and from Massachusetts for several months. The problem for Romney is, he’s now insisting—and he signed a federal form declaring—he had no participation in Bain (besides owning the company and its various entities) once he headed to Utah. During this current controversy over his role at Bain, he has not said anything about a transition period.

    • 122 theo67
      July 16, 2012 at 6:11 pm

For me, the question is: why is Romney running so hard from Bain after 1999? If he’s not ashamed of what he did, why wouldn’t he just own it? Is it because of the profits he earned from the abortion waste removal company? Is it because of the millions he made from firing people and destroying companies and families? Is it because of stuff we haven’t even uncovered yet? He was CEO at Bain. Why would he deny it so vehemently?

Romney is a LIAR. John Kerry released 20 years of tax returns.

Teresa Heinz Kerry’s reluctance to release tax returns, which she files separately from her husband, was a major story line during the 2004 presidential race. She eventually made public the first two pages of her 2003 return, which showed she earned $5.1 million that year, almost all of it from interest and dividends on investments. She paid $627,150 in federal taxes in 2003, only 12.3 percent of her total income.

I’ve been writing weekly to Arne Duncan & Dept of Education regarding Jindal’s efforts to decimate public schools to gin up a reason to defund them, by privitizing through a voucher system. And that voucher system is in Jindal’s words the new educational “delivery system” to schools teaching with DVDS in windowless trailers and bible based math books. Earlier this month, Jindal signed a status budget apparently cutting ALL state funding for public libraries.

I signed this because this is too important to allow a state to privitize schools. Thank you for posting this and lets help spread the word. States are really struggle due to the mess the Bush Administration allowed with his “Ownership Society” which gave banks, mortgage companies, and realtors the green light to make bad mortgages and destroy so many communities, cities, and states. There is a city in SoCal that will be CLOSING all their libraries next year. There are too many people who can’t afford increases in property taxes.

TRENDING: Hillary Clinton: Romney ads featuring her a ‘waste of money’

“I am out of politics, and I haven’t seen any of the ads that you’re talking about,” Clinton said. “But I have to say it’s a waste of money. Everybody knows I ran against President Obama in 2008, that’s hardly news. Everybody knows we ran a hard fought campaign and he won. And I have been honored to serve as his secretary of state.”

    Yes, Romney Perjured Himself

The claim that he committed a felony by falsely reporting his role at Bain Capital under oath is what has really gotten under Romney’s skin. But it seems pretty clear to me that he signed a federal financial disclosure form, under the penalty of perjury, saying he had not been involved “in any way” with Bain after he left for Utah in February 1999. That’s a strong statement. And it is directly undercut by Romney’s own statement in his 2002 attempt to prove residency to run for governor:

    Off-topic blast from the past!

If you’ve got 6 minutes or so, this is worth a look. I actually remember this broadcast. [Dang I’m old] It’s a video retrospective of David Brinkley’s career to date as he was leaving CBS Nightly News in 1981. Mr. Brinkley was one of the giants of televison news, having co-anchored The Huntley-Brinkley Report with Chet Huntley, anchoredg NBC Nightly News against Walter Cronkite on CBS and later pioneering the Sunday news show format on ABC’s This Week with David Brinkley {which falls in history AFTER this video].

Wow, look at the stock market numbers on that day. My how the times have changed.

    NBC Nightly News-Brinkley Farewell 1981
From NBC, a lookback at David Brinkley’s career as he exits for ABC in 1981. Included in the show is a brief item stating that NBC would like to expand to an hour in 1982, this never happened. At the end is an ironic promo for a Rock Hudson movie in which he invents the perfect woman!

    Budget stripping by congress
-Last night on ‘Newsroom’, one of the storylines was about congress hamstringing investigation and prosecution of Wall Street abuses by stripping the operating budgets. This is a favorite ‘trick’ of Rethugs. Strip the budget, the rant about ineffective government.

-Guantanamo: Defense Authorization Bill for fiscal year 2011 blocks the Department of Defense from using any money to move Guantanamo prisoners to the U.S. for any reason. It also says the Pentagon can’t spend money on any U.S. facility aimed at housing detainees moved from Guantanamo, in a slap at the administration’s study of building such a facility in Illinois.

-The CFPB is the only banking regulator with a cap on its independent funding. For additional funding, the CFPB must request an appropriation from Congress rather than levy fees on banks, as the other banking regulators may do.

-IRS. An expanding workload and cuts in funds have left the Internal Revenue Service unable to adequately perform either of its primary duties — collecting taxes and providing the public with reasonable service, according to a report released Wednesday by the I.R.S.’s internal monitor.

-GREEN MILITARY: House Republicans passed a pair of provisions that would stymie the military’s efforts to incorporate more renewable fuels into its supplies. The Senate committee, on a near-party line vote with Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jim Webb of Virginia voting with the Republicans, banned the Pentagon from buying alternative fuels or building any facilities to manufacture them “if the cost exceeds the cost of traditional fossil fuels used for the same purpose.”

Rove must have sent a missive ordering them to take that thing down at once!!!

Two days after President Barack Obama’s campaign put out a brutal ad making fun of Mitt Romney’s singing abilities, the Romney campaign responded in kind with a web video mocking Obama for singing Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.”

However, on Monday afternoon, that video was no longer available. Viewers who tried to watch it were greeted with a fuzzy screen and the message:

This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by BMG_Rights_Management.

“Our use was 100% proper, under fair use, and we plan to defend ourselves,” said a Romney campaign spokesperson.

In all honesty, it is brutal. Brutal in its honesty. But that’s the nature of our press. Whenever someone speaks the truth, it elicits shock i.e: Mankini calling Willard a liar, when everyone knows it’s true that Willard is the biggest liar alive. It’s always shocking and surprising for the press to be confronted with the truth because they wouldn’t know it if the truth snuck up and bit them on the ass. So yes, PBO’s ad was brutal in its honesty.

John Boehner: Democrats Willing to ‘Tank Our Economy’

Speaker John Boehner charged Democrats today with being willing to “tank our economy” to secure a “small business tax hike” in response to vows by top Democrats that they will use scheduled defense spending cuts as leverage on taxes.

“Has it come to this, that Democrats are willing to hurt jobs and tank our economy for the sake of a small business tax hike that would also have disastrous consequences?” Boehner said in a written statement.

Senate Democrats said they see no political downside to leaving the issue of $1.2 trillion in automatic spending to both defense and domestic accounts until after the November elections, as they try to use the cuts as leverage with Republicans to negotiate on tax increases on the wealthy

“We structured the sequester in a way that would be more comfortable for us than for Republicans,” a senior Senate Democratic aide said, referring to the cuts by their technical name. The cuts, which are set to begin next year, are nearly evenly split between defense and domestic spending but do not affect Democratic priorities, such as Social Security and Medicaid.

Hey Mr. Boner, where are the jobs?
And why do you hate America?

I see POTUS and VP Biden with VP Biden’s granddaughter on ESPN 2. Crowd went nuts when they saw POTUS.

  90. July 16, 2012 at 8:09 pm

I grew up in Michigan and my grandfather, the 1st African-American township supervisor in heavily Republican Oakland County, who was a Democrat, worked with Gov. George Romney and respected him as a MAN and a politician. So….

…my grandfather knew daddy Romney, he worked with daddy Romney… and Williard, you are NOTHING like your daddy. It’s a big difference from having “character” and being one… and you, WILLARD, represent the latter.

In a rational campaign, Mitten the spoiled brat Kitten, wouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as our cooler than a fan, magnificient President. But as we all know, this Presidential Campaign is anything BUT rational.

Here’s an analogy to illustrate what’s REALLY going on… Back in the day, the Negro League Baseball players beat the crap out of the discriminatory, no Blacks allowed all white “American” League Baseball teams on a regular basis. Yet, the game the Black ball players won “didn’t count” because they were Black and was written off as nothing more than “exhibitions”.

Hence, the demented, Jim Crow-ish mentality of Today’s GO(T)P when conceptulaizing President Obama. To them, he doesn’t count because he’s just a… well, you know… to them and therefore, has no validity twhatsoever no matter how much he accomplishes… or beats them down on FACTS because of it.

This is the demented reality we’re living in Ladies and Gentleman. The pundits can spin all they want, but THAT is the bottom line. “Superiority Complex” in full effect… and without guilt or shame. WHY? Again, because the President is African AMERICAN and anything HE does, no matter how great, doesn’t count to right wing nut members of the GO(T)P (which constitutes about 90-95% of ’em these days). Simply put, the image and the REALITY of a Black President is something they’ll NEVER get over or accept. So I say…

… TO HELL WITH THEM AND SHOW NO MERCY ON THEIR FEAR-FUL LEADER, WILLARD “MITTEN THE SPOILED BRAT KITTEN” ROMNEY. Because in THIS case, the old saying of “never kick a man when he’s down” doesn’t apply. In THIS case, it’s the best time to kick him… because he’s closer to your foot. LOL!

Criquet, this has been my beef. I am convinced that companies have been refusing to hire people in order to keep unemployment high and defeat President Obama. I say this because many companies are sitting on record profits. Their actions have emboldened the GOP to say NO to every job proposals advocated by President Obama. I wish we could identify companies that are deliberately doing this and boycott them. Personally, I’ve made every effort to boycott Koch paper products –ranging from paper plates to toilet paper. I am determined to do all I can to stop spending my meagre dollars on companies that could care less about me.

Okay, in September of 2008 I flew out to Las Vegas on the “Great Schlep” sponsored by the comedian Sara Silverman, to convince my 70 something parents to vote for President Obama after Hillary lost in the Primary.. They did vote for PBO. Lately they have been watching a little too much CNN and Wolf and were questioning their vote. I just got off the phone with them for a family visit….they brought up politics and boy, are they mad. I have never heard my mother so angry about what is going on the in the GOP. They are now convinced they are going to vote for PBO again , this time they are in their 80’s. I am still going out in October to make sure…I love changing planes during my trips. I have many more opportunities to “Barack The Vote”! I love passing out stickers in the airports. Best time I had during an election.

“The attacks on Bain, outsourcing, and his investments are sticking to Romney like Velcro… [snip]
Romney has lost control of the debate and the dialogue.”

    A Corporate Veteran Writes …
    By James Fallows

    Jul 16 2012, 9:33 AM ET

with a suggested question for Mitt Romney, bearing on when he was and was not responsible for the plans and decisions of Bain Capital:

If you weren’t in charge at Bain in 1999-2001, who was? If Mitt Romney had ‘retroactively’ retired — who was ‘proactively’ managing Bain Capital? Just a simple name — or a committee would do. (Next question, why wasn’t this person listed on the SEC forms?)

I’ve worked in corporate life for >35 years and always knew who was “in charge”. I’m sure Romney knows who was in charge at Bain during the time in question. After all this is the company that he founded.

Answering this simple question would clarify matters greatly. (BTW – “the person in charge” of a company is not supposed to be a secret. This isn’t the Sopranos you know.

    The reader adds

I think this is becoming the opening of Obama’s end game. In chess — I think it’s called a fork. Can’t move here because I get taken — can’t move there because something else gets taken.

    A long-time lawyer writes:

I haven’t heard anyone in the media make the point why Romney’s poor response to the Bain capital issue is so damning: In effect, Romney is saying that he should get a pass for what Bain did in his “absence” because he wasn’t running the company at the time (even though he was technically still its CEO), and/or that he should get a pass for telling the SEC that he was CEO of the company for three years while he had passed off those duties to others because he didn’t actually exercise control.

The Obama campaign mistakenly focused on whether that makes him a liar or a criminal. In my opinion, the more damning conclusion comes from accepting Romney’s story at face value. If he can’t deal with two big issues at the same time, and [won’t] take responsibility for what is done on his behalf (by those he chose to act on his behalf–because he was the sole owner of the company), how can he possibly be competent to be President of the United States
