LOVE this, but I have to say my favorite are the pics of that little 4yr old girl reaching out for PBO. This is awesome though, love PBO’s face, LOL.

        • July 15, 2012 at 11:42 pm

I still haven’t looked at those pics from Virginia enough! Have to say I think the one where PBO is ever so gently holding the little girl’s right hand, as she is waving at him with her left, just before she reached out to hug him…. That touch of the hands so utterly describes the man: sensitive, gentle, open hearted, in awe of this little child, yet he knows how to speak directly to her… A Soul to Soul contact if ever there was one. It’s as if the entire group is lifted up, but at the same time the crowd disappears. It’s just the two of them, like old friends who have been parted, and meet once more. That’s how I see it!

I have to repost this because as usual it was just before Chips new thread.

Funny stuff…did you guys read Halperin comments?

”Barack Obama’s campaign and allies will run more negative ads against this Republican nominee than have ever been run in the history of the world.”

Ok that was in the ad….in the history of the world I tell you!!….he’s embarrassed because it makes him look so stupid, well he is but that’s not the point….it’s so over the top and false.

Halperin tweeted Sunday that he was uncomfortable with his image being used to back up a political point from the Romney campaign.

“To echo what NBC News’ Tom Brokaw said in January, when his image and voice were used in a Romney campaign TV ad, ‘I am extremely uncomfortable with the use of my personal image in this political ad. I do not want my role as a journalist compromised for political gain by any campaign,” Halperin said in a series of tweets.

Hahahha my role as a JOURNALIST…is that what he is?

    Not first. 😦

Chips, I think you need to implement a “Not First” prize – retroactively. Most of us have won many, many prizes on that front.

    Meanwhile, congrats Betsy on #1!

    • July 15, 2012 at 11:13 pm

Hopefruit, I’ve given serious thought to a retroactive “Not First” prize – but I fear if I followed that route you’d accuse me of actually working for TOD these past few years when, in fact, I wasn’t. Clearly I was retroactively not involved at all, even if my name might have been on the papers, but that was just a retroactive administrative glitch. You hear?

Mitt Romney needs you Chipsticks! Your ability to write and sound so intelligent, and convincing, without saying much is what he is lacking from his current surrogates, like Ed. Gillispie. Is there a chance that he may retroactively hire you? Any way, I hope you put principle over money because we can’t afford to loose you.

Most important show ever, imho—-The Newsroom—–now showing the Gabby Giffords shooting breaking——(all the gun culture talk leading up to this moment)——and how the networks reported she was dead—–and how someone says a dr. reports death, not a news channel trying to be FIRST. There’s just so much here—–how some get distracted by the silly and ridiculous in the news biz etc. etc. etc.—–and then this event puts all in perspective. What really matters. And what precedes, what leads to a real tragedy.

    • 47 sabreen60
      July 15, 2012 at 11:10 pm

Yep. I just tweeted it would be great if we had ONE MSM channel that was interested in presenting the truth. I understand NBC News has bought out MSNBC. So we CNN is FOX Lite and MSNBC will become FOX Lite II.

      • July 15, 2012 at 11:24 pm

Well——if my local NBC station is any indication——-I note they are in full Mitt Rescue Operation tonight. “Both sides do it”. Both sides are accusing the other of lying, insinuating that both sides are lying. And then after one snippet from Rahm, they air 3 or 4 Repubs saying that this is just President Obama trying to distract from the dismal economy and THAT is what is important in this election and that the economy is not expected to improve by election day and THAT is what will decide the election. It was fairly transparent—–like sock you in the eye transparent—-what they were doing. They don’t even try to appear the least bit objective any more. They don’t seem to care.

It was really good but the shooting at the end really hit me in the gut. So horrible that it came to that, and how quickly people forget and move on to the next story. I just don’t understand why we can’t have sensible gun control.

Hmmm, you know what? This doesn’t sound like a Republican to me:

“After making Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey, she became a supporter of The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and is now the DFGFI’s honorary chairwoman.[28] Weaver is an environmentalist. In October 2006, she drew international attention through a news conference at the start of a United Nations General Assembly policy deliberation. She outlined the widespread threat to ocean habitats posed by deep-sea trawling, an industrial method for harvesting fish. On April 8, 2008, she hosted the annual gala of the Trickle Up Program, a non-profit organization focusing on those in extreme poverty, mainly women and the disabled, in the Rainbow Room.”

Although I wish it wasn’t Bobby– the gay son– who was having all the problems. It just makes the story line so typical. It’s always the gay son who’s always in trouble. It would have been better if it had been the straight son who wasn’t the perfect child, whose life was falling apart. But that’s my only complaint. I love the fact that the network didn’t shy away from letting two men make out half nekid on tv!! I love it! This country has come a long way, baby!! 😆

CINCINNATI – President Barack Obama’s town hall meeting on Monday will be free and open to the public, but tickets to the event are required.
REPUBLICANS PREPARED TO PUSH BACK WHEN OBAMA VISITS

President Barack Obama will visit Cincinnati next week, and his political opponents plan to score some points of their own.
    MORE
Tickets will be available Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at the president’s campaign offices in Cheviot (3722 Harrison Ave.), Walnut Hills (2718 Woodburn Ave.) and Forest Park (1124 W. Kemper Rd., Unit 50).

Obama will discuss his vision for improving the economy, creating middle-class jobs and paying down the national debt.

“The President is going to make some important announcements, ” said state Sen. Eric Kearney. “One announcement is about tax policy and how the tax policy needs to serve and help America’s middle class.”

Someone should ask the odious Ron Christie, if it’s fair to ask Romney whether he agreed with the Mormon teaching that it’s a sin for a white man to marry and procreate with a black woman? If, not then how did he sit in a church that preached that till he was in his thirties?

        • 89 theo67
          July 16, 2012 at 1:30 am

Christie’s probably never bothered to listen to the speech in context. He seems to be spoonfed his beliefs.

    • 90 anniebella
      July 16, 2012 at 12:29 am

If I tweeted I would tell Ron Christie, okay Ron let’s visit Mitt Romney’s Mormon church. Where one Republican pastor who supported Rick Santorum call Mitt’s religion a cult. You want to go down that road. Mitt’s religion were a black man like Ron were thought of as being cursed. Where Mitt’s religion didn’t think very much of black people, and some say they still don’t. Mitt proved that last week where he showed that he feel all black people want is free things from the government. It is clear Ron Christie is a dam jackass.

    • July 16, 2012 at 12:42 am

Romney’s tax returns have direct relation to his candidacy for President. If Ron Christie wants to examine religions, then he should be prepared for that door to open both ways – the fact is, the religions of the candidates have nothing to do with their ability to run the country. Their religions may give us an insight into their characters, their world views, their perspectives on other human beings, and their agenda to bring about the end of the world (as the case may be), but there are plenty of other things for us to look at. President Obama’s tax records and his history with Rev Wright are already on the table. Mitt Romney’s tax records and history with his church are not on the table. These Republicans better think before making demands, because that’s a losing proposition.

    • 92 nathkatun7
      July 16, 2012 at 4:02 am

Christie is an Idiot! Obama has released his tax records and Romney should do the same. Taxes have nothing to do with people who you associate with. If they want Rev Wright, a marine who served his country, then let’s have all the pronouncement of the Mormon Church about Black people, and the right wing wackos who support Romney, like Ted Nuggent, who thinks that the Country would have been better off if the Southern slave holders had won the Civil war. I suppose Christie would be more delighted to be serving in the role of a house slave rather than as a free man with the right to vote and the right to speak his mind as a right wing pundit. I am sick of these people who try to mix legitimate questions with illegitimate questions.

      • 93 anniebella
        July 16, 2012 at 5:27 am

It shows you that these pundits like Ron Christie who get on tv are no smarter than we are. I don’t claim to be so smart but I do use the commom sense the good Lord gave me. So if this cock eyed fool (forgive me) want to go down that road, let’s go.

    • July 16, 2012 at 7:23 am

This is pure stupidity on Christie’s part and smacks of desperation. This guy’s gotten away with spewing anything from his mouth and having Repugs clap like trained seals. Let me vent. After Repeal vote #33 last week on the ACA, I wrote an email to my rep…Ben Quayle(Asshat/AZ) This was his LYING ASS RESPONSE.Rest assured that I will be calling his office first thing tomorrow. I’m pissed! Lying sack of shit.I’m pissed. He’s so bought and paid for, it’s pathetic…Mr. ALEC member…Mr. I Pledged My Allegiance to Grover Norquist…

Thank you for contacting me about the Supreme Court’s deeply disturbing decision to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

This unfortunate ruling jeopardizes the entire American healthcare system and sets forth a dangerous precedent that threatens the very core of our Constitution. Obamacare’s individual mandate will require all American’s to purchase health insurance or incur a tax enforced by the IRS. This disastrous 2,700 page anti-consumer legislation saddles the American people with increased taxes and an even larger national debt, all while imposing stifling regulations that cripple America’s small businesses and erode the high standard of medical care that Americans, like you, depend on.

From the start, I opposed Obamacare and voted for its full repeal. I have repeatedly voted to dismantle it piece by piece. While the Supreme Court’s ruling is certainly a disappointment, it by no means spells defeat. I assure you that my colleagues and I will redouble our efforts to see Obamacare repealed by Congress and replaced with pro-market, pro-consumer, commonsense reforms. These reforms include allowing consumers to purchase health insurance across state lines as well as supporting the creation of associated health plans, which would enable small businesses to band together in order to pool risk and pay the lower insurance rates afforded to larger businesses. I will also continue to fight for vital medical malpractice reform in order to reduce the burden faced by physicians and lower medical costs for consumers. These initiatives are just a portion of the broader solution towards making healthcare more affordable for all Americans.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please feel free to visit my website at http://www.quayle.house.gov/ and sign up for my newsletter to receive updates on the work I’m doing for Arizona’s Third Congressional District.

When I lived in a red district, I used to get two page lying letters from my Representative, too. My blood pressure would soar, and I’d be angry for days. I’d write back detailed responses, go to his office and spend ages with his staff refuting his lies… In the end, I moved to a Democratic district (Hahn’s district). I’m not suggesting that you do the same. Just that I know your pain! It seems that the GOP feel no compunction in lying through their teeth to their constituents, and betraying their oath of office. They’re reprehensible.

Seriously, theo…I actually had to walk away from the computer. I was so pissed. So pissed. You know, if he said that he didn’t agree with it on a point of policy, I wouldn’t like it, or agree, but he’s a Republican…I get it. But when he purposely LIES about this amazing piece of law,THAT pisses me off! He’s getting a phone call tomorrow…and I want to talk to the person that wrote that email to me…like I’m stupid. I actually detest this smug little SOB. I hope he loses the election he’s trying to win…the other guy is just as bad, but it would be a new jackass. I’m SO over this one.

This jackass does nothing either, Absolutely nothing. I just pray that I can be respectful…it’s hard because I see none being shown to me. This was a form letter, to boot. He addressed none of the points I made in my email. He saw the email was about healthcare, and shot this stupid assed canned response to me. I can’t stand Jon Kyl, but when I sent him an email, he sent me back a letter in the mail that addressed what I asked him. Didn’t agree with him, never will, but he did me the honor of an honest response.

The GOP and MSM supported narrative that PBO is ‘weak’ and ‘afraid’ has always pissed me off. PBO has NEVER been afraid. I challenge the mongers to provide a single example of PBO ‘fear’. Our President has been under a constant threat from the moment he declared his candidacy. How many of them could withstand the pressure? They have thrown everything at him, including the kitchen sink. Who do you think the last man standing will be? I put $10,000 on PBO.

great “deep cut” and thank you helping promote ms. bofill’s name around here. yes, the strokes were tragic and she is doing better, but her story is all too familiar to those in the entertainment business (from her wikipedia page):

“Because Ms. Bofill did not have health insurance, a benefit concert was organized to pay her hospital bills. The show, planned by Engel along with NY radio stations Kiss FM and CD 101.9, was held on March 11 at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ. Similar events were being planned for Detroit and Los Angeles, Engel said. Other aid was being sought from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.[2]”

and god bless the obama family and all of us for getting him elected again, to try to help end this profit-driven healthcare inhumanity brought upon america by all republicans. forward!!!!

there’s a reason olbermann isn’t doing anything right now! there are plenty of great liberal commentators who just need to be given that first chance, and they are much more valuable than this prima donna. stephanie miller and her crew, and randi rhodes for starters. they also make for “good tv” in terms of dynamic personality, entertaining, knowledgeable, and able to fiercely debate their points, yet we’re subjected to bill kristol, george will, peggy noonan, and so on who are none of the above. goes to show the billionaire owners of all the media don’t care about those things they claim to care about, and are only concerned about promoting republican ideology into people’s daily conversations and into the ballot boxes. forward!!

that is some great acting by jeff daniels! i do have a little bit of an issue with the script though. that’s a dangerous sentiment in my opinion. it quickly leads to ron paul insanity, and the “liberals hate america” schtick. it goes against what president barack hussein obama says. i do think america is the best country. we elected barack as president for crying out loud…in a landslide!!!@ find me a society in human history that has embraced the “melting pot” idea more than america has, as evidenced by his election as our president. the embracing of everyone, from any skin tone, nationality, and economic background of course leads to extra challenges, and i’d suggest that is why it has been hard to reach higher levels on academics tests. but overall, we are the world superpower still and i’d say the best, or at least ONE of the best, at accepting and embracing people from all walks of life. forward with democrats in the house and senate!!!

Morning everyone……..My opinion on this if you don’t mind.

The only reason that a black man named Barack Hussein Obama became President is because the previous administration and President was the worst in history, started an illegal war and mismanaged another one, crashed the economy, lost all standing in the world, etc….and Senator Obama was exceptional in so many ways, way above average, highly intelligent, had an impeccable record, etc….it says it all to me.

Lets just say that a black man not in the caliber as President Obama would have not be elected.

”the embracing of everyone, from any skin tone,”

The way this great man has been treated from the start from day one, from the ugly right to the emoprogs is very disturbing to say the least. It’s sickening.

The level of disrespect he received and still do is unprecedented.

The bar is way way way higher for him…it’s never good enough….the only reason why most emoprogs are on board now is because they are scared of Romney….They put ”holding his feet to the fire” on hold for now…

History will not be kind looking back at the way the first black President was treated.

              July 16, 2012 at 12:03 pm

what you say is also true in my opinion, and i’m just more focused on the longer-term context. when people such as PBO talk about “america’s greatness” i think they’re usually referring to the declaration of independence and the u.s. constitution, and how america was set-up to sort of self-correct itself over time, and also how it’s been able to rise up so fast historically speaking. so yes, the negative stuff is true, but so is the positive stuff. i feel that after PBO is done with his second term and all the immense good he and the democratically controlled congress bring, PBO will end up on mt. rushmore. as bobfr points out, we’re on the cusp of ending the american civil war once and for all with this election, and we’ll be able to close the book on that awful chapter in america’s history.

PRESIDENT OBAMA LEADS AND MITT ROMNEY FOLLOWS

We all knew this was coming. I was waiting for the rebuttal ad using President Obama singing. How original and creative. The problem for Mitt Romney’s campaign is once again they are following President Obama and copying him. Mitt does this all the time. They even follow President Obama around on the campaign trail in the Romney bus. They are like juveniles.

It’s ironic that Mitt Romney singing American The Beautiful came a few days after President Obama sang a few chords at the Apollo. Was that just a coincidence? Or was Mitt trying to make a statement. You know President Obama sings at the Apollo and and he sings about America. He’s the true patriot? I know, I’m over analyzing. Whatever. The bottom line is Mitt is the one who made that ad so easy. Now he is playing catchup as usual.

Let’s face it the Republican Party studied what PBO did in 2008 and they are blatantly trying to disenfranchise voters because they know they can’t win on their agenda.

They are using the money to trade the stock and bond markets. They figure they can make more money with less risk. JPMorgan Chase just happened to get caught with a bad trade. To a large degree the Wall Street banks are hedge funds.

Did Romney get Amnesty for his Swiss Bank Account money ????

One reason that Wall Street does not show the president much love is that his administration and Senator Carl Levin have successfully pressed Switzerland to open its secretive banking. It would not be surprising if many of the “vilifiers” were those who can no longer hide their funds in a numbered (no-name) account in Switzerland.

President George W. Bush, on the other hand, served them well. President Clinton was close to concluding an international agreement to prevent tax havens from hiding income and wealth. When the Supreme Court installed Bush as president, he withdrew the US from that agreement.

Thanks to Bush, his wealthy friends were able to enjoy another nine years of hiding their income and forcing the rest of us to make up what they were hiding.

Many of those accounts, and the income from them, are now subject to U.S. taxation. Those who had hidden, undeclared accounts first were given until October 15, 2010, to reveal their accounts’ existence, pay the taxes they owed and a modest penalty, but are not subject to criminal prosecution.

That is, they received an amnesty.

If Romney’s tax returns revealed that he were one of those who received amnesty, he could still properly claim that “all taxes were paid, and that he complied with U.S. laws” on the basis of his not having been charged with a crime after he revealed his prior wrongdoing.

But, if it ever became known that he received amnesty, the American people would utterly reject him for two reasons: amnesty means he had been breaking the law for many years and putting extra tax burdens on honest Americans and that he was accorded special treatment only the wealthy receive.

this is a juicy bit of conjecture–and it could be the reason we’ll never see mitt’s taxes. true or not, i’m glad to see it circulating, because r-money needs to feel the heat.

I checked the 4 possibilies for Romney to hide his tax returns…

“Here are four possibilities: 1. Extremely high levels of income… 2. More offshore accounts…. 3. Politically explosive investments… 4. A very, very low tax rate.”

    All 4 I’m sure!

    They think we’re stupid.

He’s an honorable man as Joe Klein said……puke!

Reminder that Obamas on CBS———just aired another snippet and continue to stretch this gem out saying more will be in next half hour——they’re sure making the most of one interview—–stretching it out over days and multiple programs. They did just have a good follow up segment with Carville.
