A very, very, very Happy Birthday to Alycee’s Mom!

A mystery TODer who shall not be named (hiya Pamela) asked me to pass this on to amk. Huh, my pleasure!

Sorry for the late posting today everyone, I’m going to be away from home for a couple of weeks so the posting might be a bit irregular some days – and I’ll most likely fall even further behind with emails. 😕 But we’ll keep the ship afloat, hopefully!

i do know that alot of folks are uncomfortable with his role in the coverup…but alot of this will depend on the state AG…and whether there are civil lawsuits against Penn State…etc

Pr, I don’t count on anything actually being done to Corbett on the Sandusky issue, but I hope the drip, drip, drip of suspicion, coupled with his horrible record, sends him out on his ear in 2014. He has been an unmitigated disaster for this state and I’ve heard that from Republicans as well as Dems.

Prettyfoot, on MHP the quests talked about how the civil rights groups are going to use the clip of your state’s state senator about voter supression in their law suits.. Score 1 for our side because we have factual proof from his own mouth about the stated goal..

the 2 part question…are you registered to vote and then do you have a state issued Photo ID…such as a driver’s license….

i have spoken to many who are registered to vote but who do not have a state issued photo ID…and contrary to what the proponents of the VOTER ID say….it is not easy to get the ID….because all to often getting the supporting documents needed for the state ID is problematic…and for some….it may not be worth the trouble and expense to get them..

In Philadelphia alone it has been estimated that 18% of registered voters do not have the required state issued ID….18%

        Ooooooooooooooo weeeeeeeeeeee……

        • 17 jackiegrumbacher
          July 8, 2012 at 4:31 pm

Please, please, please tell them to vote absentee where the photo ID is not required. If people want help with their birth certificates they should call their state representatives who are required by law to assist in getting birth certificate dupes for their constituents. I called our Republican reps and was told that yes, that is part of their jobs.

            July 8, 2012 at 4:41 pm

this is valuable information…but herein lies the problem…for some folks they will leave no stone unturned to do what is required to vote…my concern is for those on the edge who will vote if it is convenient…i know that sounds bad but it is what it is…sometimes sis it is hard enough getting folks to register and then to get them out on election day to the polls to vote…
I think a visit to Philadelphia by the President might encourage and inspire folks to do what they need to do…
but i will continue to tell folks what to do…..

            WE SHALL OVERCOME!

              July 8, 2012 at 5:32 pm

The absentee ballot application deadline is usually about a month before the election. Then they mail you an absentee ballot later in the month. On the application you say you will be away from your precinct on election day (this is what Republicans do). There is NO WAY anybody can dispute this. If you’ve voted before, you will get your ballot. AND, those ballots are hand counted on election night in front of poll watchers. I know because I was in after the count and watched it and verified it. By the way, I think you can be pretty sure the president will visit Phillie. during the campaign.

    • 24 jackiegrumbacher
      July 8, 2012 at 4:28 pm

Yes, we will overcome, PF. I think the state legislature and stupid Corbett over played their hand by going so far right on every issue, including voter suppression. This is not a state that reacts well to radical changes and there’s a lot of anger out there about what Republican control is doing to people. As I said, Corbett’s gross mismanagement is an asset to the president’s campaign.

I’m just worried about getting chips back home—-she had to fly to her remote location in some kit plane, bounced her in there and shoved her out into the wilderness—- and she says she’s never flying in a model airplane ever again. I’m assuming she had no other choice as to means of transportation, because who would choose to be strapped onto the roof of a puddle jumper, a la Willard’s poor dog, Seamus. So, either she remains there for life, foraging for food and drink, or we will have to petition Marine 1 to swing by and pick her up for home depositing purposes.
Maybe if we ask real nice and tell about chips’ multiple good deeds—–
Have a great time wherever you are, chips. Hope they have wine there.

Chips, realize how busy you are so hopefully my re-posting this for folk will be ok and no added burden to you …

If only 20 % of those following @BarackObama on Twitter were to donate $ 1.00 dollar a day from today until midnight 5 Nov 2012, the consequences would be well beyond the $$ raised, though the $$ are hardly insignificant.

Just imagine if 30 or 40 % donated; we’d show the Kochs, Adelsons, etc., they are no match for us, the 99 % who actually care for each other and for preserving and expanding the Promise of America for generations yet to be born, because of the SPIRIT we would be demonstrating, in addition to the scale of $$ funds we’d generate (and the down ticket impact those funds could also have).

    122 days until 6 Nov (counting today) x (0.2 x 17,281,000) x $ 1.00 = (approximately) $ 425,656,400.00

Let’s not let a day pass!!

    Thank you.

      July 8, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Bob, as I’ve said before, this is a great idea. I’ve been doing this on a weekly basis, donating so that there aren’t so many hits on my credit card. I don’t let a week go by without donating my accumulated daily share. I wish the campaign would pick up on this. It’s actually easier to deal with than the fundraising requests that start at such high numbers they take your breath away.

Do we think the monthly auto-donate counts as well, coz have had that active since January 2010.. Plus the FR pages I contribute to frequently…

I think they do Pamela….because when they called me for a donation last week , they thank me for my monthly auto donation….

          • 48 Pamela
            July 8, 2012 at 5:00 pm

I know, and I am several hundreds short of my allowed limit for this part of the campaign, getting many letters thanking me but asking if I can lay the entire amount right away… I feel so badly, it is just not possible to make any lump sum donations, except to my dentist, and her bill is $7,000.00! Whoa…. Am working on that, it seems I just gotta have teeth…..

        • July 8, 2012 at 5:02 pm

Of course, Pamela. The notion behind #ADollarADayToOFA (thank you VC, yet again) was very much to have folk realize that such a small increment, i.e., ~ $ 30 a month x the ever expanding number of “#Tweeps4OBAMA” (now over 17.3 million) adds to some serious $$$$.

However, one implements the donation, as to make it as easy as possible, is strictly a personal choice.

Thank you!!! And, Thank you Jackie!!!! and Linda!!!

    • July 8, 2012 at 8:00 pm

BTW, some have asked if this would be difficult for OFA to implement. Actually, it’s trivial.

They create a #ADollarADayToOFA extension of their typical fund raising system and instead of asking people to donate immediately upon submitting their payment information, they indicate to the user that as 30 days elapse their credit card will be charged $30 dollars – foreshortened for the number of days that elapse prior to 6 Nov, so, even if a Tweep were to commit on 1 Nov they’d only be charged $ 5.00.

This is also known as showing contempt for the media and the American people. When you look at the way Mitt Romney has been running his campaign, the two characteristics that stand out are his “PATHOLOGICAL LYING” and his “BREATHTAKING OPACITY.” I thought it would be fun to document some of the elements of this dishonest campaign so far. I’m sure I missed a few items …..

    – Blame everything on President Obama.

    – Lie and make stuff up about President Obama to muddy the waters and confuse the voters.

    – Pounce on the jobs numbers the first Friday of each month. Ignore losses under GWB and gains under PBO.

    – Ignore the obstruction and sabotage of the Republican Party which started on 1/20/09 and continues unabated.

    – Ignore the wreckage left by GWB. (2 wars, 2 tax cuts, medicare part D not paid for)

    – Count on the fact that “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes”.

    – Avoid providing any details or specifics on the Romney agenda. Speak in generalities and Frank Luntz tested soundbites.

    – Count on the media to continue carrying water for the GOP while giving scant coverage to the facts about PBO’s accomplishments.

    – Limit interviews unless they are with friendly hosts like Sean Hannity. This will ensure softball questions with no challenges to outlandish claims. Be sure to bring Ann whenever possible. Avoid the Sunday Shows.

    – Write op-eds and give canned speeches. This will provide more opportunities to lie without being challenged in real time in person.

    – Avoid at all costs press conferences. But when they can’t be avoided, limit the number and type of questions that can be asked. Avoid answering questions on the rope line.

    – Insist that the Mormon faith is off limits.

    – Insist the Romney family is off limits.

    – Avoid providing tax returns. An extension was requested for 2011. So the scrubbed 2010 return should be sufficient.

    – Do not discuss dismal record as governor of Massachusetts.

    – Avoid any discussion of Romneycare which was the template for Obamacare.

    – Tout time as CEO of Bain Capital as major qualification for being president. Pretend the goal all along was job creation even though it was really to make as much money as possible for investors. Accuse any critics of being against capitalism and free enterprise.

    – Brag about Winter Olympics 2002. Avoid any discussion of congress and earmarks.

    – Rely on donations from anonymous billionaires, Koch Brothers, Chamber of Commerce, Wall Street, Big Oil, etc. to run deceptive ads. Rely on Karl Rove Crossroads GPS and other superpacs to run their versions of deceptive ads.

    – Rely on Republican governors and legislators to create bogus voter ID laws to disenfranchise African Americans, Latinos, Seniors, College Students and the Poor.

    – Focus on doing the bidding for Grover Norquist, the wealthiest 1%, National Rifle Association, Tea Party, Donald Trump, Koch Brothers, Wall Street, Big Oil, Chamber of Commerce, billionaire donors like Sheldon Adelson and others. (NO TAXES, NO REGULATIONS)

Bottom line, Mitt Romney just feels he is owed the White House. Even Ann Romney has said “It’s Our Turn Now”. So this election thingy is just a nuisance for the Romneys. They want their White House and they want it now. Please, don’t ask so many questions.

If all the “tenants” of this five-story house in the Caymans showed up at the same time, it might get a little crowded — there’s 18,857 of them.

That’s right, almost 19,000 corporations have listed their official address at Ugland House, an office building on South Church Street, Georgetown, capital of the Cayman Islands. Talk about full occupancy.

Among the corporations who do business from this address are Seagate Technology, world’s biggest manufacturers of hard disk drives, and Intel Corp., world’s largest chip maker.

But there are countless other companies with addresses here or elsewhere in the Caymans, including about 25 of the 100 largest contractors who do business with the U.S. government, including Altria Group Inc., and Tyco International Ltd., according to a report in Bloomberg News.

What’s so great about the Cayman Islands besides the tropical weather? There’s no corporate income tax for firms incorporated there.

And Obama wants to strangle this golden goose with new tax reforms designed to raise some $210 billion over the next decade.

We can all try this locally. Talk it up in our own teams, tell our neighbors about it. Build it up from the grassroots. Our OFA guy told me today that the national office respects grassroots action and they always pay attention to activities that start at the local level. Talk about it at a meeting and then post it or ask your team leader to post it on VoteBuilder. Activities on VoteBuilder are closely followed by the national OFA. If each of us starts a little fire it can make a huge difference.

I really like this thinking, Jackie, especially as it puts the onus back into ‘our’ hands. From the excitement level here when people see a way to be involved, I can anticipate grassroot teams buying into this. IMHO it is a totally doable strategy to push back against GOP big money because I believe people would be willing to sacrifice if they had to, to put aside $1 daily/$7 weekly. I can’t wait to hear if it starts to catch on at local levels, and I hope it catches on more effectively than ‘Occupy’ did

Saw this comment at DKos and it made me feel really good:

“….He is not just a strong campaigner but also excellent at debates and his campaign always amazes me at how organized, detailed, and meticulous it is.

Obama campaign even called me after the PA Primary and before to prepare me for voter ID and then to see if i had any problems with voter ID or noticed if anyone else did.”

Stopping voter suppression is the most important issue of this election. And it’s clear that the President and his team understand this.

My biggest concerns are keeping the Senate, winning the House and permanently ending the Romney’s quest to add 1600 Pennsylvaina Avenue to their real estate portfolio.

The key to all of those is getting out the vote and stopping the GOP from suppressing the vote. I am glad to see that Organizing for America is all over this, way before November.

    Power of TV ads

In a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll of swing states, an overwhelming majority of voters remember seeing campaign ads over the past month; most voters in other states say they haven’t. In the battlegrounds, one in 12 say the commercials have changed their minds about President Obama or Republican Mitt Romney — a difference on the margins, but one that could prove crucial in a close race.

At this point, Obama is the clear winner in the ad wars. Among swing-state voters who say the ads have changed their minds about a candidate, rather than just confirmed what they already thought, 76% now support the president, vs. 16% favoring Romney.

“We gave them new information,” says Obama campaign manager Jim Messina. “Romney had been out there claiming success as governor,” but Democratic ads have prompted voters to “take a look at his record” on job creation and as head of the private-equity firm Bain Capital. Messina also credits a $25 million buy for a positive ad “about the challenges the president inherited and what we had to do to move this country forward.”

To be sure, Obama’s ads have done more to win back Democrats than to win over independents or Republicans: Thirteen percent of Democrats say their minds have been changed by ads, compared with 9% of independents and 3% of Republicans.

    • July 8, 2012 at 6:31 pm

What this headline should say, is TRUTH in political TV ads make a difference. OFA, as Messina says above, is giving new information..they’re getting people to question, look at all sides of what they see….this is why it makes a difference.

Horrible disgusting Obama slam piece in the Des Moines Register today, owned by anti-Obama Gannett. It described “a deep-seated buyers remorse” with ’08 Obama voters. Source—Romney pollster. It was all about disappointment with Obama, creating an opening for Rommey. In discussion of Obama ads flooding the market, it said fact-checkers found the claim that Romney was an outsourcer to be untrue. That was followed by some sort of snarky comment that maybe it would trick voters anyway. The whole piece was a mess of propaganda. Not linking.

I welcome this argument that the outsourcer claim is not true. Romney says the outsourcing happened while was on leave in 1999. But the SEC filings show that he owned the company up until 2001.

Yet, Mitt, Factcheck.org and his campaign say, yes, he owned Bain while it was outsourcing but he wasn’t running it, therefore he’s not responsible.

Great. Then Mitt you do not get to claim any jobs created by Bain-owned companies, during that time period. After all, by your own admission you were not involved in the day-to-day oversight of Bain.

By the way, what kind of leadership is that from a prospective President of the United States of America? ‘I own it but I don’t run it, so I can’t be accountable.’

Romney as President: ‘I was attending the G-8 overseas, so I am not responsible for any decisions made by the staff that I hired fwhile I’m gone. I just Preside over the executive branch, other people run it. Therefore I am not responsible if something politically unpopular happens.’

Multiple Choice Mitt. Trying to have it both ways (and more) since he started running for public office. Romney/2012.

VIDEO: Romney Parks Millions in Cayman Islands

By Brian Ross – January 18, 2012 (ABC Nightline)

As the race for the Republican nomination heats up, Mitt Romney is finding it increasingly difficult to maintain a shroud of secrecy around the details about his vast personal wealth, including, as ABC News has discovered, his investment in funds located offshore and his ability to pay a lower tax rate.

“His personal finances are a poster child of what’s wrong with the American tax system,” said Jack Blum, a Washington lawyer who is an authority on tax enforcement and offshore banking.

July 8th #CanMittMatchThis? Good Day TOD-MSM devotees: 😆 Just updating the reminder re message discipline:-

    Message Discipline for #CanMittMatchThis?

    1. The PRIMARY FOCUS of the information or video we share should be ON THIS ADMINISTRATION.
We do not want Mitt &/ his troops’ faces, or voices, in our offerings IF IT CAN AT ALL BE AVOIDED! They get enough free airtime elsewhere. THIS, this IS a labour of love, FOR OUR SIDE!!!

    2. Use only ONE event/law/story/picture/ or whatever for EACH #CanMittMatchThis?
The intent is to incrementally GROW our contacts’ knowledge base for this President, not overpower them all at once.

    3. People or content shared with #CanMittMatchThis? hashtag should be praising/affirming THIS administration, not actively deriding the other side.
We are leading our contacts to draw one CONCLUSION = Mitt R does not have the goods to be resident leader at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
THIS IS JUST FACT! Our role is in bringing the supporting evidence for this conclusion to their attention.

***Trumpdog’s suggestion to target a specific area of accomplishment each day is a great one, and I notice that Angela prepared a tentative schedule – THANKS Angela! – which we can always modify with input from the group

The President’s Record – (combined to fit a 7 day schedule)
Monday – Jobs, Economy; Income Inequality
    Tuesday – Environment
    Wednesday – Equal Rights; Taxes
Thursday – Health Care; Social Security, Medicare
    Friday – Education; Infrastructure
Saturday – National Security &Foreign Policy (incl. trade deals)
Sunday – Wall Street Reform; Taxes

Each week we can repeat. This will help us to remain organized in our efforts as we move ———————-> FORWARD.

**** Christi asked if the hashtag was legitimate (fair?) framing – I lean towards ‘yes’ because IMO we are mentally framing it with “As president, can Mitt Romney match what the current president is doing?” My answer is an unequivocal NO! He showed that during his stint in Massachusetts and every day since!

*****WhatisWorking also draws our attention to info that is definitely pertinent and useful, and the fact that her info dates back a while is actually good because, to a certain extent, we are covering the ‘history’ of this presidency.

At the top are links to the ads for president Obama listed by category. Farther down are pages with links for information, articles, videos, and images for various topics.

Another aspect of the page is this area that lists success stories by state; this may prove helpful for the local slant.

    Dear Family.,

Can you give me your opinions on this. I am a person who feels insecure to a certain extent about debating with people about issues. However today on FB a friend claimed basically that the emergence of the power of the tea party was the fault of liberals freaking out over them. She claimed they were just a well funded fringe group that came into power because of liberals reaction to them. I of course, disagreed stating that the tea party had the rethugs by the balls because the rethugs were promoting their extreme right agenda and that certainly wasn’t the fault of liberals. She then went on to state that people like Allen West, Michele Bachman and Sarah Palin weren’t controlling the rethugs. Here was my response:

Yes they do (the tea party). The Republican party has adopted their extreme right wing views, so much so that GWB is too moderate for them as well as their so called god Ronald Reagan. All the people you mentioned get damned near more media face time than the President…they are the distraction and not the people I’m concerned with. Tea Party roots go a lot deeper than those people. There are Republicans that are leaving the party and/or publicly declaring that they are going to vote for President Obama because they don’t recognize the party anymore. This is not the fault of liberals

Do think my response was accurate enough? I’m not so sure that this person is not just trying to push buttons, I just couldn’t sit by and let a reasonably intelligent person make such a frivolous un-thoughtful statement.

What Is Romney Hiding in His Offshore Accounts, Tax Returns, and $100 Million IRA?

By Winning Progressive (July 8, 2012)

Combined, these three articles paint Romney as an extremely wealthy man who has chosen to invest much of his money overseas, rather than here in the US, who is likely pushing the envelope to dodge as much taxes as possible, and who refuses to disclose even basic details about his financial dealings even while asking the American people to trust him with their hard earned tax dollars. Based on these articles and other news reports, we pose in this edition of our series Questions for Mitt Romney a number of questions that journalists should ask about Romney’s fortune, and that voters should demand answers to.

    1. Why won’t you release your tax returns?

    2. What is in your offshore accounts and investments?

    3. How “blind” is your blind trust?

    4. How did you amass a $100 million plus IRA?

    5. Do you still profit from Bain Capital?

    6. What other investments do you have?

    7. What laws would you change?

(See detailed notes on each question.)

How’s that “less govt” thingy” working out, Florida?

According to the Post, the coverup began as early as last February, “when Duval County Health Department officials felt so overwhelmed by the sudden spike in tuberculosis that they asked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to become involved. Believing the outbreak affected only their underclass, the health officials made a conscious decision not to not tell the public, repeating a decision they had made in 2008, when the same strain had appeared in an assisted living home for people with schizophrenia.”

That decision now appears to have gone terribly awry, partly because the disease appears to have already spread into the general population but also because just nine days before the CDC warning was issued, Florida Governor Rick Scott had signed a bill downsizing the state’s Department of Health and closing the A.G. Holley State Hospital that had treated the most difficult tuberculosis cases for over 60 years.

CHICAGO, IL – Obama for America Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter issued the following statement today in reaction to the Romney Campaign’s carefully worded defense of Mitt Romney’s offshore investments:

“Earlier today, Kevin Madden, a senior advisor to Governor Romney, released a carefully worded statement that said Mitt Romney has not received any tax advantages from operating a corporation in Bermuda, holding investments in the Cayman Islands or opening a Swiss bank account. It’s not clear whether Mr. Madden is saying that he never received tax advantages, or that he’s not currently receiving them. Regardless, he’s asking voters to take him at his word, since Mitt Romney is defying the long-time precedent of presidential nominees releasing multiple years of tax returns. But, if he didn’t receive any tax advantage, what was the purpose of creating shell corporations and investing so much of his money in tax havens in the first place? And, why did he work so hard to keep the existence of these accounts secret for so many years? These issues are important because voters can’t make judgments about Mitt Romney’s motivations on critical policy matters if this information is kept hidden. If there’s nothing to hide, why not clear it all up and release multiple years of returns like every candidate has done for decades, including Mitt Romney’s own father?”

Obama Drops the Hammer and Vows to Kill the Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich .

President Obama sent the message today through Robert Gibbs on CNN that he plans to kill the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

    • 213 amk for obama
      July 8, 2012 at 7:38 pm

The point of Robert Gibbs putting this out there today was to get the conversation started. President Obama should be salivating over the possibility of making Mitt Romney defend his unpopular position of lowering taxes for the wealthy.

Numerous polls have shown that support for raising taxes on the wealthy cuts across party lines. As much as Republicans don’t want to talk about it, the Mitt Romney tax plan is radical upward redistribution of wealth. If Republicans gain full control of the federal government they intend to lower taxing on the wealthy while increasing them on the middle class and poor.

The Bush tax cuts are going to be a major issue of the General Election campaign. Even though 74% of Americans support killing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, there are seven Democratic Senators who are actually siding with Republicans on extending the tax cuts for those who need them least.

We can all stop pretending continued Republican anger about the Affordable Care Act is news. Some figured a Supreme Court ruling would settle things. And since the GOP said it was unconstitutional with the same fervor as people who’ve read the Constitution—it was easy to assume a decision from the nine justices in the highest court in the land—regardless of the outcome—would chill them out.
They would say things like “We are a nation of laws.” Things they say when they agree with the law—however unjust it may be (i.e. immigration).
No, instead there are calls for revolt. The perennially reasonable Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) said in a written statement: “Just because a couple people on the Supreme Court declare something to be ‘constitutional’ does not make it so.” And then added, “The whole thing remains unconstitutional.” Which is akin to saying just because something is a law doesn’t make it legal. Or just because they have hair on their face doesn’t make them mammals. The court, not some junior senator from a small state, ultimately decides what is or what is not constitutional. But unconstitutional is the word conservatives use for illegitimate. In chess this move is called flipping the board over and stomping away.

George Clooney is to host another fundraiser for President Barack Obama in Geneva.

Clooney, who spends part of his summer at his villa on Lake Como, Italy, is expected to hop across the border and front two Americans Abroad for Obama events in Geneva on August 27th.

The movie star, who previously staged a bash for the President at his home in Hollywood, is expected to address 150 guests at a reception and then serve as guest of honor at a more intimate dinner, where seats will cost $20,000 per person.

The money raised at the two events will help to fund Obama’s re-election bid. Clooney gave the President’s campaign a huge boost after helping to raise $15 million at a fundraiser in May.

The Oscar winner invited 150 celebrities and VIPs to the dinner at his Los Angeles mansion. Superstars including Barbra Streisand, Robert Downey, Jr., Tobey Maguire, Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, Salma Hayek and Jack Black were among those who paid $40,000for a ticket.

Obama told guests he was delighted to have Clooney as a supporter, stating, “We raised a lot of money because everybody loves George. They, like me, love him. And rightfully so.”

I don’t know…those Paul people are pissed at Romney…think he’s stealing this election and they’re having NONE of that…It would seem that this is all in the courts and the shit is gonna hit the fan 🙂 I love when they fight amongst themselves….Not sure what the broken bones thing was about though…RM talked about this at length..how the RNC was screwing around and the way they apportion delegates is nuts…remember how screwed up things were for Iowa and Maine and Missouri…kept changing who actually won? Weird stuff.

They want to know if the plaintiffs in the lawsuit – delegates – are free to vote their conscience on the first and all ballots at the convention or if they are bound to a particular candidate (Romney).

Again—love The Newsroom—-smartest, best show on the teevee—–especially for a political junkie. Just called the tea party the plant in the Little Shop of Horrors. Really on the case of how the last of the decent Repubs got ousted by the tea party for not being extreme enough—willing to call Obama every name in the book—-and thus the demise of a “reasonable opposition party”. On Grover Norquist. And all the absurdities. When someone says “I want to take my country back” news guy asks “Is your country my country too?” Now asking tea party peeps “Where does your funding come from?” Asks them if they have ever heard of the Koch Bros? And now saying they could buy and sell George Soros 10 times over—–and how they are funding all the tea party candidates and where their interests lies—–trying to buy the country and using the tea party as stooges. It’s got all the stuff.

I don’t want to get my hopes up and then have them deflated? I know there’s lots of plain ‘ole politics going on. That’s why my question of seriousness and real possibilities that the Paul gang is going to seriously make trouble at the convention?

Of the many great lines, I have to find the Jeff Daniels line about being elected to Congress and wilfully choosing to learn absolutely nothing about anything once you’re there.

You can sure tell it’s fiction because these zingers happen in ‘interviews’ on air with Republicans. That sure never happened. But that’s the point.

Love the progression of Sam Waterston’s character who came across as a dodgy drunk in the first episode. Crazy like a fox.

“America just elected the most dangerous Congress in my lifetime”—-re ’10 election—-said on The Newsroom—–as they fight over what the news media has become—–devolved into “human interest stories”—-for ratings—- and failing to tell the American people the truths they need to hear about what is happening to this country. Now talking about crazy Michele Bachmann asking for every Congressperson to be investigated for being unAmerican. Pardon my repetition, but this is the most important thing on TV. By far.

These rich people, who by the way have done so well under President Obama, are utterly shameless. They no longer hide their disdain for people who are not as rich as they are. If they could, they would go back to the days when only people with property were allowed to vote. The tragedy, of course, is that they will use their immense wealth to bamboozle ordinary people that they despise so much to vote against their own interests.

It’s no longer about just doing well — they have done spectacularly under PBO. It is now truly about obliterating the rest of us. They want it ALL. And if destroying America and getting it ALL from China or India gets them ALL of it even faster, they’re fine with it.

I’ve never seen anything like it. I never dreamed I would see anything this brazen.

Everyone needs to watch The Newsroom on HBO or stream it. It puts the blame where blame belongs: on Republicans who refused to marginalize the crazies and embraced them instead; and on the media that did it for business reasons only.

        July 9, 2012 at 2:33 am

So, Cman, are you suggesting that she is not as educated as she thinks? By the way, these right wing people just can’t make up their minds about how to attack President Obama. In the past they attacked President Obama supporters for being, arugula eating, prius driving, educated elitists, limousine liberals. Romney even attacked him for being an elitist Harvard educated lawyer/professor. I remember the constant mantra, since 2008, embraced by many in the ms media, that President Obama was an arrogant elitist who had nothing in common with ordinary people.

Isn’t it interesting that now the REAL ELITES, who are supporters of Romney, think that the people supporting President Obama are the common people of low income ( College kids, babysitters, people who take care of rich people’s nails, etc.) who are not educated, and who don’t know how the system works.; and who probably should not be allowed to vote? I wonder how the MSM will deal with this new right wing meme after they’ve been telling people that President Obama is an arrogant educated elitist who does not connect with ordinary working class people?

I know my grammar and punctuation sucks too, but then again I have an excuse: I belong to the low income class that this woman, who supports Romney, thinks that should not have the right to vote.

Women are far more likely to support President Obama and voice doubts about Mitt Romney after being exposed to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s recent anti-Romney ad campaign, according to a survey commissioned by the women’s health and abortion rights group.

The poll, conducted by Hart Research Associates and shared with POLITICO, tested female voters in West Palm Beach, Fla., and Des Moines, Iowa, to gauge the impact of the PPAF ads. The group announced at the end of May that it was spending over $1 million on an initial wave of commercials hitting Romney in Florida, Iowa and Virginia.

In both Des Moines and West Palm Beach, voters appear to have shifted toward Obama after seeing the ads. Obama led by 11 points among West Palm Beach women who did not recall seeing the ads, but by 28 points among women who did recall seeing them. In Des Moines, Obama and Romney were tied at 39 percent among women who didn’t recall seeing the ads, but Obama led by 28 points among women for whom the ads left an impression.

The ads have gained significant notice in the markets tested in the poll: half of women in West Palm Beach and 55 percent of women in Des Moines say they definitely recall seeing the commercials. Those women have moved away from Romney.

Great article by Paul Krugman. This paragraph really stood out to me…..

One more thing: To the extent that Mr. Romney has a coherent policy agenda, it involves cutting tax rates on the very rich — which are already, as I said, down by about half since his father’s time. Surely a man advocating such policies has a special obligation to level with voters about the extent to which he would personally benefit from the policies he advocates.
